Chapter 9: Friday 18th of November

San's POV

I turned around as the door suddenly swung open, confused when I saw Seonghwa walking in with a frown on his face.

"What's wrong with you," I asked, sitting down on the edge of my bed.

"What's wrong with me? San, what the hell is wrong with you," Seonghwa asked quickly.

"What are you talking about? I'm fine, I just wasn't feeling great so I missed a few periods today," I lied.

"I already know what you were doing today San, Wooyoung told me," Seonghwa said. Oh, I didn't expect that.

"What I'm referring to, is what the hell you did with Wooyoung," Seonghwa asked. I frowned at that and rolled my eyes.

"I didn't do anything Seonghwa, I just made sure he was ok," I said, flopping back across my bed and stretching out.

"You're kidding me right? San, Wooyoung was anything but ok," Seonghwa said. I frowned at that and sat up.

"What are you talking about," I asked in confusion.

"Wooyoung came to talk to me earlier. He wanted to figure out why you were being so confusing and changing your mind about everything all the time. I tried to paint you in a good light, to tell him that you just struggle with emotions but he got upset," Seonghwa said.

"How upset," I asked slowly. Wooyoung was fine when I left him, sleepy, but fine.

"He started crying and I tried to help him but he got scared and wanted to leave so I let him go. The last I saw of him, he was crying and confused," Seonghwa explained. I frowned in worry, going over what Seonghwa said. If Wooyoung was crying, then that means this really upset him and I didn't mean to do that. I was just trying to look after him and make him feel better, not worse.

"Where did he go," I asked Seonghwa worriedly.

"I'm not sure. I didn't want to scare him more so I let him go. I would assume that he went to see Yeosang or Yunho given that they're his best friends," Seonghwa said.

"But either way, we'll see him at dinner. I just wanted to make sure you knew that you messed up, again," Seonghwa said.

"That's uncalled for Hwa. I really was just trying to look after him. He was sick and I was looking after him, that's all," I explained.

"San you told him you hated him and everything was fake and then you told him that you care about him. Can you understand how this might be giving some mixed signals," Seonghwa asked.

"Ok, yeah I can understand that," I said quietly.

"Good. So next time just choose one thing and stick to it," Seonghwa said.

"To be fair, you're the one that made me realise I do actually care about him. That was after I already told him I didn't care," I pointed out.

"Ok fine. But from now on, you care ok, stop giving mixed signals," Seonghwa said.

"Let's just head to dinner," I said, standing up.

"Fine," Seonghwa said with a nod. We both left the Slytherin Common Room and walked through the halls to the Great Hall. It was already full as dinner started a few minutes ago and everyone was already in there eating. Seonghwa and I went over to the Slytherin table, sitting in our usual spot at the end. Seonghwa started piling some food onto his plate but my eyes drifted over to the Gryffindor table. I searched along it, finding Yunho pretty quickly but seeing no sign of Wooyoung. I frowned at that and instead looked over at the Ravenclaw table, hoping to find Wooyoung sitting with Yeosang. However when I found Yeosang, there was once again no Wooyoung in the vicinity. These made me more worried, not knowing where he was when he's not with his friends. I got up quickly and made my way over to the Gryffindor table before Seonghwa could protest. I walked quickly until I was beside Yunho and I tapped his shoulder. He turned around and frowned when he saw me. Trust me, I am not happy about having to have this interaction either.

"Move," I said, tapping the shoulder of the boy beside Yunho. He moved quickly and I slid into the seat, facing Yunho.

"What do you want," Yunho said with a frown, his nose turning up slightly.

"Where's Wooyoung," I asked, getting straight to the point.

"I don't know and even if I did, it would be none of your business Slytherin," Yunho spat.

"How do you not know where Wooyoung is? He's your best friend," I pointed out.

"Again, it's got absolutely nothing to do with you. Do you honestly think I would tell you where he was so you could be an asshole to him," Yunho said. I really didn't want to show that I care right now, to disclose that information but I'm really worried right now. I grabbed Yunho's robe and tugged him closer, making him jolt slightly but I loosened my grip.

"Wooyoung went to Seonghwa earlier and they were talking but he said Wooyoung seemed off. When Wooyoung left Seonghwa, he was crying and distraught. Neither of us have seen him since so I'm trying to find him to make sure he's doing ok," I explained quickly. Yunho pulled back slightly to look at me, a frown still present on his face but this one of worry.

"Why was he crying and when was this," he asked.

"It was not long after first period. He was upset about something, that's all I know," I lied.

"I just need to know where he is," I added.

"I was telling the truth San, I really don't know where he is, I haven't been paying much attention. When we woke up this morning, Wooyoung was being really rude so I've kind of just been ignoring him today," Yunho admitted. Well that's not helpful. Yunho must also not know about him being sick if this is something that's bothering him.

"Wooyoung was sick this morning, he could hardly get out of bed. That's probably why he was so rude," I informed him. Yunho's face immediately dropped and was replaced with one of guilt.

"I had no idea. Go check with Yeosang, he's the one that Wooyoung probably would've gone to," Yunho said. I nodded and stood up, preparing to leave but Yunho grabbed my wrist to hold me back.

"What," I asked in confusion.

"Look after him if you find him, and let me know," Yunho said quietly. I sighed but nodded before quickly heading over to the Ravenclaw table. I shoved some random boy to the side and sat down, leaning back against the table so I could look at Yeosang. He frowned and turned his head to face me.

"San," he said slowly. He seemed off, like very off, especially if I could see it. Yeosang is usually calm and composed but he seemed a bit on edge.

"Look, I know you hate me bu-."

"I don't hate you San. I've never said I hate you. You're the one always calling me a filthy half-blood," Yeosang interrupted quickly. Right, that is true.

"Ok, I know I can be a dick bu-."

"Yeah, you can definitely be a dick, a big one as well," Yeosang interrupted once again with a nod.

"Kang Yeosang stop interrupting me. I need to know if you've seen Wooyoung because I'm really worried about him," I said quickly. Yeosang's face dropped and he once again looked nervous.

"You're worried? Wooyoung is my best friend and he ran out sobbing. I tried to follow him but he was too quick," Yeosang said quietly. Wait, what.

"When was this? What happened," I asked quickly.

"About half an hour ago. Wooyoung missed all his classes today and I was originally worried about him but Yunho mentioned he was just being a brat so I was more just annoyed. But after the last period, I went back to the common room and Mina came in with Wooyoung who was crying. I bought him to my room and tried to calm him down but something happened and he just went off. I wanted to console him but he ran out and disappeared before I could," Yeosang said, gnawing on his bottom lip nervously.

"So that was where he went after Seonghwa but no one has seen him since then," I said.

"Seonghwa," Yeosang questioned in confusion.

"Wooyoung was upset earlier and ran off. We thought he must've gone to you or Yunho. So you haven't seen him since he ran off," I asked him.

"No, I haven't. I tried looking around for him but he isn't here," Yeosang said, scanning the room. Ok, this is so unhelpful, no one has seen him. He isn't in the Gryffindor common room or the Ravenclaw and he isn't here so where else could he be.

"Why are you looking for him anyway. I swear if you're just going to start another fi-."

"I'm worried about him and it's driving me insane. I'm not stopping until I find him and make sure he's ok," I said, getting up quickly and walking out of the Great Hall before he could reply. I will search this entire castle if I have to, I just, I just want to make sure Wooyoung is ok. Especially if I was the one who caused this in the first place. Everywhere I would think to find him, he isn't so far. There's only one other place I can think of before I start just searching the castle from top to bottom.

I quickly rushed to the moving staircases, climbing up and up until I reached the floor I needed. I then hurried and went to the bottom of the staircase to the astronomy tower and hurried up quickly. When I got to the top, I searched around quickly, but didn't find any sign of him.

"Wooyoung? Youngie, are you here," I called out but received no reply once again. I groaned to myself before turning around and rushing back down the stairs. Damn it Wooyoung, where the hell are you? I changed my tactics and instead began going from room to room to search through them for Wooyoung but there was still no sign of him. I went to a lower level and continued going from room to room, my heart pounding. After looking for a few more minutes, I opened the next door to find Peeves floating around inside. He cackled to himself and I noticed that he was sticking the chalk to the blackboard with gum. I raised an eyebrow as I watched him before an idea came to me. It's a long shot but I'm running out of ideas and I really need to find Wooyoung.

"Hey, Peeves," I called out, making the poltergeist turn to me.

"Ooo, who do we have here? If it isn't Mr Choi San," he said, spinning around and flying over to me.

"Do you know Jung Wooyoung," I asked him.

"Of course I do little Slytherin, I know everyone," he said with a grin.

"Good. Can you tell me if you've seen him within the past half an hour," I asked him. Peeves cackled again and crossed his legs where he was sitting in the air.

"What's in it for me," Peeves asked.

"Seriously Peeves. Can't you at least be helpful for once in your life, or death, or whatever," I said with a groan.

"Nope," Peeves giggled.

"So what's in it for me," he asked again. God, I don't have time for this.

"Whatever you want Peeves, I really don't care. I just want to make sure Wooyoung is ok. So if you know where he is, just tell me and I promise that I will owe you and will repay," I begged. Peeves grinned at that and nodded.

"Very well. He went to the place where things are hidden, on the first floor," Peeves said. Say what now?

"Ok, that's not helpful Peeves. What the hell is that supposed to mean," I asked.

"Nuh uh, that's all I'm telling. You gotta figure out the rest for yourself. Although your bestie seems to enjoy sneaking off their with his little Ravenclaw boyfriend," Peeves said.

"Seonghwa and Hongjoong aren't together as Seonghwa always likes to remind me. But, hey wait-." I cut myself off as I thought about what Peeves said. A few years ago Seonghwa showed me this special room on the 7th floor. It was years ago and I haven't gone there since but I've heard Seonghwa mention it a few times.

"Thank you so much Peeves," I said quickly before running off. I raced up to the 7th floor and went to where I remember Seonghwa showed me. It was a few years ago so I was a bit rusty in remembering what to do but I remembered the gist of it. I paced up and down in front of the large wall on the end, thinking about what I needed. I need Wooyoung. I need to find where Wooyoung is, I need to make sure he is ok. There was a sudden noise and I turned around to see a door appearing in front of me. Wow, it really is just like that. I just hope it's what I'm looking for. I quickly opened the door and slipped inside.

The room I entered was dark and cold, really cold. There was barely any light but I could still make out the small figure curled up on a beanbag. He was in a tight little ball and I could hear the sniffling coming from him as his body was shaking. I quickly rushed forwards and dropped down, pulling the younger boy into my arms, relieved to find that it was Wooyoung.

"Woo, hey." I was shocked when I placed my hand on his cheek and felt that it was ice cold. Wooyoung's teeth were chattering and he had tears trailing down his face. His entire body felt cold and I was shocked. He's in a room where he can basically think anything into existence and he's freezing cold. He needs to warm up, we need a fire place. I let out a breath of relief as the room lit up more as a fireplace appeared in front of us. I quickly tugged Wooyoung into my lap and shuffled forwards so we were in front of the fireplace. Wooyoung was still shivering heavily and he hadn't said anything so I quickly shrugged my robes off and wrapped them around him, bunding him up tightly in my arms and moving his face to tuck against my neck. I held back a shiver at the ice-cold touch from his nose and just continued to hold him.

"Wooyoung, what the hell were you thinking," I asked quickly. He didn't respond, just kept shivering in my hold and I got even more worried. I lifted my hand up and cupped Wooyoung's face softly, tilting his head to the side so I could look at him. His eyes were closed, but his tears were still falling down his face. His skin was ice-cold under my palm so I didn't move it, trying to warm it up as best as I could. He didn't move for another minute and I was worrying even more but then he finally did. He shifted around, wrapping his arms around my neck and shifting around so he was straddling my lap, his head tucked into my neck. I wasn't sure if he was even aware of what was happening, so I made sure to be careful with what I was doing. If he isn't in the right state of mind, I don't want to accidentally do something that would make him feel uncomfortable normally. I gently wrapped my arms around his back, keeping them high near his shoulders and rubbed between his shoulder blades softly. He whimpered softly and clung to me tighter and I gently tugged my robes up higher, situating them better around his shoulders.

Given how cold he is, it probably isn't enough to warm him up. It would be better to have a couch in front of the fire with some blankets. It got slightly darker and I glanced up to see that a couch was now between us and the fireplace.

"Wooyoung, I'm going to stand up to take us to the couch because it will be more comfortable. I need some sign to make sure you're ok with this. So nod for yes or shake your head for no please," I said quietly but firmly. He didn't move for a few seconds before he finally nodded into my neck. I quickly adjusted my grip and managed to stand up with Wooyoung held tightly in my arms. I walked over to the couch and sat down, leaning back on the arm with Wooyoung curled up on top of me. I quickly grabbed the fluffy blanket there and laid it over Wooyoung, tucking it around his shoulders. His body was no longer shaking, meaning he was slowly warming up. I continued to rub his back, feeling him relax almost completely after about 10 minutes of this. He eventually shifted slightly but only to lift himself up higher and curl closer to me.

"I miss you Sannie," he mumbled, his voice so quiet I almost didn't hear it. Almost. I glanced down as his head tilted slightly and found that his eyes were closed and his face was lax. I frowned in confusion and lowered my ear to hear, finding that his breathing was soft and even. He'd managed to somehow fall asleep. I smiled softly and brushed his hair from his forehead. He looked peaceful when sleeping, cute. I gently moved him around slightly so he was resting properly and comfortably against my chest before continuing to brush his hair. He relaxed even more at that and I felt him nuzzle slightly into my hand in his sleep. I moved my hand down slightly and placed my palm on his cheek, relieved to feel that it had warmed up to the temperature that it should be. It scared me a lot when I first found him and he was ice cold. I felt guilty for that as well. From what Seonghwa said, this was all my fault. I don't mean to mess things up for Wooyoung, I don't mean to be confusing or upsetting. A big part of me is still saying to stay away from because he is a blood traitor, he's someone I should despise. My dad would be so disappointed in me if he found out I was ever talking to Wooyoung, let alone looking out for him.

But for some reason I couldn't stop myself from going back to Wooyoung. It was like he was a magnet drawing me to him, I just couldn't stay away. Whether I like it or not, Wooyoung is someone who going to be here to stay for the rest of school. And I have a feeling I can live with that. I couldn't find it in myself to wake Wooyoung up when he was finally sleeping and relaxing. I'm perfectly fine with staying here as long as Wooyoung needs to get a proper rest. The only issue with that is that Yunho and Yeosang are worried about Wooyoung and won't know where he is. I sighed before letting my eyes slip closed a memory surfacing to the front of my mind.

***

"I'm scared Hwa Hwa," I whimpered. Seonghwa bent down and smiled softly.

"There's no need to be scared Sannie. I'm right here and I'll protect you," he said softly.

"Hwa I don't wanna," I whimpered, shaking my head quickly.

"I promise I will be holding your hand the entire time. You can just sit on it if you want to," Seonghwa said gently.

"I'm only six Hwa, I can't fly," I said with a pout. Seven year old Seonghwa just smiled softly and ruffled my hair.

"You can do it Sannie, I know you can," Seonghwa said. He held out the small kid broom and I pouted. He rolled his eyes but kept the broom out. I jut out my bottom lip anxiously but reached a small hand out. Seonghwa quickly grabbed it with one of his while holding the broom with the other. He held it closer to the ground, allowing me to step over and sit down on the broom.

"Grab the broom with your other hand. We'll both put a hand on ok," Seonghwa said. I shakily reached out my left hand and grabbed the handle, feeling Seonghwa squeeze my right hand softly. He then reached out with his own right hand and grabbed the broom handle, holding it tightly.

"Now hop off the ground Sannie. It only has to be a little hop so you can be hovering above the ground, you don't have to fly away," Seonghwa encouraged. I whined in fear but Seonghwa hushed me softly.

"You'll be just fine Sannie, I'll be here," Seonghwa said softly. I glanced up at him shakily and he grinned with his slightly chubby cheeks.

"You promise," I whispered.

"I promise Sannie. I will always be here," Seonghwa said firmly. I took a deep breath, clinging tightly to both the broom and Seonghwa's hand before pushing off quickly. I squealed in fright, tugging Seonghwa closer. I sniffled and buried my head into Seonghwa's shoulder, realising he had stepped closer to comfort me.

"You're fine Sannie. See, you're doing it," Seonghwa said softly into my ear. I perked up slightly at that, slowly turning my head from his shoulder to see that I was indeed doing it. I was still holding the broom with one hand, Seonghwa doing the same, my legs curled up and not touching the ground as the broom hovered a couple meters up. It wasn't much but for six year old me, it was everything.

"Hwa Hwa, I'm doing it," I said quickly, giggling happily.

"Yes you are Sannie, you're doing so well," Seonghwa said softly.

"Come on, I'll walk you around a bit," he added. I was still slightly scared but I also felt safe with Seonghwa, he would protect me. I nodded quickly, flashing him a small smile. He grinned and began walking forwards slowly, the broom moving along with him. I was slightly shaky and unstable with my bad balance but we worked it out, eventually moving a little quicker. I was giggling and wiggling around excitedly as Seonghwa guided me around the back garden.

At 6 years old, this was one of the happiest moments of my life.

***

I slipped my eyes open, glancing at the fire with a small smile on my face. I slipped my hand under the blanket and into my robes, pulling out my wand.

"Expecto patronum," I said quietly, so as to not wake up Wooyoung. A burst of light immediately produced from my wand, swirling and growing slightly, becoming a mass of light before part of it faded, leaving my patronous floating in the air.

"Long time no see," I whispered as it floated closer. It drifted down before landing on Wooyoung's side, padding lightly. I smiled softly and tilted my head.

"You remind me of him," I said quietly, brushing Wooyoung's hair delicately. The Fox tilted it's head and I chuckled lightly.

"I need you to go find Jeong Yunho and deliver a message to him," I whispered. The fox bowed it's head down and waited.

"Yunho, it's San. Wooyoung is fine, he's with me and he's resting," I said, speaking a bit louder to be clearer.

"Deliver that for me," I instructed. The fox quickly formed into a ball and floated off through the wall. I sighed and rested back, slipping my arms back around Wooyoung's body. I cuddled closer to him and let out a slow breath before yawning. I can just close my eyes for a few seconds, it'll be ok. I'm still looking after Wooyoung, I'm just resting my eyes as Hongjoong says sometimes with Seonghwa. Just resting.

~~~~~
I startled suddenly as I was jolted from my rest. I must've fallen asleep at some point because I could feel that I was getting picked up by someone. What the hell? I tensed up in confusion and went to jolt out of their grip.
"Shh, sleep Sannie." I relaxed instantly at the voice of my best friend, halting my panic. I yawned slightly and reached up my arms, wrapping them around his neck and pulling myself into a better position, resting my head against his shoulder as he continued to carry me bridal style. It was clear that we were moving as I was rocking slightly. My mind suddenly drifted back to Wooyoung and I slipped my eyes open blearily.
"Woo," I whispered, glancing around in confusion.
"Hongjoong has him," Seonghwa replied softly. I blinked sleepily and looked to the left to see that Hongjoong was indeed carrying Wooyoung, much like how Seonghwa was carrying me. I frowned at that, for some reason getting the urge to be closer to Wooyoung. I mean I was supposed to be looking after him and I don't like a repeat of earlier. I shifted slightly but Seonghwa hushed me quickly.
"Relax Sannie. We're going to take Wooyoung to Yeosang and I'll take you back to bed," Seonghwa said.
"What, no. Why? Wooyoung and Yeosang had a fight, just take him back to his own room," I said with a frown.
"We would but we don't exactly know the password and Wooyoung definitely looks like he can use this sleep," Hongjoong said quietly. I rolled my eyes at that and quickly rolled out of Seonghwa's arms, significantly more awake.
"Give him here," I said, moving over to Hongjoong and holding out my arms. It was then that I noted Wooyoung was still wearing my robes. Green does kind of look good on him.
"Hongjoong," I said, raising an eyebrow. Hongjoong tilted his head slightly before giving a small shrug and gently handing Wooyoung over to me. I quickly got a good grip, letting his head rest on my shoulder and continued walking towards the Gryffindor common room with the other two following behind me.
"How do you expect to get into the Gryffindor common room without the password," Seonghwa asked.
"I know it. It's literally just Godric at the moment," I replied. They were quiet for the rest of the walk before we got to the Fat Lady.
"Oh, San. Twice in one day, this is lovely," she said with a big smile.
"Indeed it is. I would love to chat but I have to get this sleepyhead back to his room," I said.
"Of course, I'll just need the password," she said.
"Godric," I replied. She nodded before swinging forwards.
"I'll be back," I said to the other two before going inside. It was a lot later than I thought as when I looked through the window, it was pitch black. I must've slept for a few hours. I quickly padded up to the right room and slipped inside, silently carrying Wooyoung over to his bed. I placed him down gently and managed to remove my robes and his robes before tucking him into bed, all while he didn't stir. I quickly dumped his robes on his chest before scrunching mine up and tucking it under my arm.
"Night Wooyoung," I whispered before turning to leave.
"San."
"Shit," I yelped before slapping my hand over my mouth, hoping I didn't wake anyone.
"Sorry. I just wanted to say thank you," Yunho whispered.
"No problem," I said quickly before running out before things got uncomfortable or he asked too many questions. When I got back out to the halls, Hongjoong was gone but Seonghwa was still waiting.
"How was Wooyoung," he asked.
"Bad, but hopefully he's better," I said quietly as we kept walking.
"You need to fix this San. If you two make up, it opens the doors for other friendships, not to mention it would make you happier," Seonghwa said. I frowned at that and looked down with a sigh.
"I'll think about it," I whispered.
"Please do. I just want you to be happy," Seonghwa said, wrapping an arm around my shoulder.
"I know." I just want to be happy to, but the voice in the back of my head that's saying you're a disappointment just won't go away,
