Chapter 7: Thursday 10th of November

San's POV

"How're you feeling? How's your head," Seonghwa asked gently as we walked down towards the quidditch pitch.

"I'm fine Seonghwa, stop stress," I said with a light chuckle. Seonghwa has been very hyper vigilant and overprotective since the other day when I fell from my broom.

"Don't ever bother telling me to stop stressing because I'm always going to worry about you San. Someone has to," Seonghwa said softly. I stopped walking and turned to him, propping my broom up on the ground, keeping hold of it.

"I appreciate it Seonghwa, but I don't want you worrying too much. You've got your NEWT's this year, you need to focus on studying and school," I said. Seonghwa smiled softly and ruffled my hair.

"I can do both Sannie. Come on, we need to get down to the rooms so you can get changed and ready. It's the first game of the season, you've gotta beat Gryffindor," Seonghwa said. I grinned at that and nodded.

"You bet we do," I said as we continued walking. We were almost there when we noticed Hongjoong walking down with Yunho, Yeosang and Wooyoung as well. Hongjoong smiled and waved and Seonghwa immediately walked over so I followed. This boy is so whipped and he doesn't even realise it. How clueless can some people be?

"Hi guys," Hongjoong said, waving to me before smiling at Seonghwa. I glanced at the others before rolling my eyes and huffing.

"Hey, everything all good today," Seonghwa asked and Hongjoong nodded quickly.

"You ready for the game San," Yeosang asked.

"Obviously," I said with a frown.

"Damn Choi, someone woke up on the wrong side of the bed," Wooyoung said. I turned to him with a scowl and turned my nose up.

"Even if I did, I'd still fly rings around you," I scoffed.

"Can you guys just go one minute without fighting please," Yeosang said with a sigh.

"When he isn't Jung Wooyoung, then sure," I said with a nod.

"Yeah he's just an ass so nope," Wooyoung said. My eyes flicked back over to Wooyoung and I prepared to have a go at him but I paused as he lifted his hand up and brushed his hair back. My hand clenched slightly as my eyes landed on the still relatively dark bruises on his wrist. I couldn't believe it when Juyeon came to me boasting about how they attacked Wooyoung in the halls and beat him when he wasn't expecting it. I was furious that they would ever hurt him. I have never ever tried to cause him bad physical harm unless I knew he can take it or he can stop it so he doesn't get too badly hurt. I don't care that he pushed me off my broom, he was just stupid and forgot we were in the air. It wasn't right what they did.

"I heard you couldn't even defend yourself in a muggle fight. Thought you liked the mudbloods and blood traitors," I said with a smirk.

"San shut up and apologise," Seonghwa said instantly before anyone else could say anything, making the smile slip from my face.

"What," I said incredulously. Seonghwa stepped forward and grabbed my arm, tugging me back quickly but gently.

"I know you want to make your parents proud but I do not want to hear you calling anyone a mudblood anymore do you understand me," he said quietly.

"But they are," I said with a shrug. Seonghwa straightened up, pure anger on his face but I wasn't scared, I just waited patiently for him to get control over his emotions. He drew in a breath and let it out slowly.

"San, Hongjoong is a muggle born and he is one of the people I cherish the most in this world. I am telling you as your brother, do not say that ever again ok. You're going to go back and apologise right now," he said softly. Ok, so that's kind of scary because I know he's angry but he's saying it gently because he doesn't like getting angry at me. It's just really odd.

"I don't, I don't think Joongie is a mudblood Hwa," I said quietly.

"I know, but I don't want you saying it even if it isn't something you believe," Seonghwa said. I sighed but nodded and he gave me a small smile, patting my head lightly. We turned around and walked back to the others who were where we left them, just talking.

"San," Seonghwa said pointedly. I sighed and rolled my eyes before looking down at the ground.

"I'm sorry," I said quietly. I tensed up as arms were suddenly wrapped around me and my head snapped up to see Hongjoong hugging me softly. I rolled my eyes and glanced over at Seonghwa who was smiling softly. I pressed my lips into a thin line and pat Hongjoong's back softly.

"Ok, yep, cheers," I said. Hongjoong giggled and pulled back, pinching my cheek softly.

"You're so cute Sannie." Ok this Ravenclaw is seriously weird. I turned to Seonghwa and raised an eyebrow, mouthing 'you picked a weird one'. Seonghwa frowned in confusion but I just turned away.

"I'm going to go get ready," I told him, tucking my broom under my arm and hurrying off. I was almost to the Slytherin change room when a hand slipped into mine and tugged me away down the end of the hall. I spun around with a frown but relaxed when I saw it was just Wooyoung.

"What," I asked quietly, placing my broom against the wall.

"First off, don't bother acting like you're happy I got beat up because I know you aren't. Second of all, I figured out why you hurt Juyeon and I just wanted to say thank you," he said. I sighed before nodding.

"Any time," I said quietly. He smiled softly before surprising me by moving forwards and hugging me softly. I glanced down the hall quickly but it was completely empty and we were at the very end of it. I quickly wrapped my arms around him, hugging him tightly. It wasn't like any of our other hugs, where we're upset or tired, this was a proper hug, one that reminded me of the old days. I tugged him close and let out a small breath of relief. Truthfully, I was so scared when I heard someone had hurt Wooyoung. I don't know why I was but I was.

"I'm so sorry San," Wooyoung rushed out suddenly, his arms tightening. I was confused by what he was talking about but then it clicked.

"Wooyoung, it wasn't even a concussion. It just hurt a bit, I really am fine," I said quietly. I felt Wooyoung shake his head before he tucked it into my neck. I was surprised and confused but I let it go, glancing down the hall again.

"I'm so sorry," he whispered, his voice breaking slightly. I started to frown but then I felt something wet on my neck and my eyes went wide.

"Wooyoung don't cry," I said quickly. I grabbed his shoulders and tugged him back so we could look at each other, seeing a few tears falling down his face.

"Jung, pull yourself together," I said firmly but not too harsh. He drew in a shaky breath but nodded and took deep breaths, trying to settle back down. He managed to do it after a minute or two.

"Go get ready for the game. The win will feel so much better when you're on you're A game," I said, expecting him to roll his eyes but I noticed him tense up slightly. I sighed and glanced down the end of the hall before grabbing Wooyoung's hand and pulling him into a storage cupboard for more privacy. It was a little small so we were almost pressed together but I didn't have to worry about being interrupted.

"What's going on? You're supposed to be a dick, you aren't supposed to just take it. That's how our entire dynamic works," I said with a frown. His head dropped down and his shoulders hunched slightly.

"It never used to," he said in a small voice, most likely not meaning for me to hear but I did and my heart cracked slightly.

"I don't think I can play today," he said suddenly, his head snapping back up. Wait, what?

"What are you talking about? Of course you are going to play," I said quickly.

"I c-can't," he said shakily.

"Yes you can and you're going to," I said with a frown.

"N-No. Y-You don't understand. I, I can't," Wooyoung said quickly. My eyes went wide as I realised he was beginning to panic, his breathing coming out quick and short.

"Hey, hey, relax. Wooyoung calm down," I said.

"I c-can't, I can't," Wooyoung whimper. I quickly slipped my hand into his and pulled it up to my chest, placing it over my heart.

"You feel that? You feel my heart beating," I asked quickly. He continued crying but nodded.

"Y-Yeah," he stuttered out.

"Good, good. Now just close your eyes and focus on that ok. Feel my heart beating and my chest as I breathe," I said softly. Wooyoung's eyes slipped closed and he whimpered, his hand clenching slightly on my robes. I glanced briefly at the door to the closet before quickly untying the top of my robes and pulling it open slightly, grabbing Wooyoung's hand again and moving it under my shirt to rest properly over my heart. His hand was cold and I shivered slightly before relaxing. I looked back up at Wooyoung, watching as his face slowly relaxed, the crying slowing down and his breathing even out again.

"That's it Woo, just relax. You're ok, you're safe," I whispered. He calmed down even more and dropped his head down so it rested on my shoulder given how close we were. I moved my arms to wrap around his waist, holding him tightly and rubbing his back. His hands clenched in my under shirt and he tucked his head into my neck. I sighed and just waited patiently as he breathed slowly, feeling his muscles unclench under my hands.

"I can't play today San," he whispered.

"You wanna tell me why you think you can't play," I asked him.

"I'm scared," he said quietly. Scared? I kind of get it I guess. Last time he played a match he almost fell off his broom but he was fine when the two of us went out.

"Wooyoung there's nothing to be scared about. You've been playing quidditch since you were four years old. It was a freak accident from you being silly and not eating enough last time, you're not going to fall off your broom," I said. Wooyoung sighed and pulled back before glancing down towards the floor.

"I tell you what, if you start to feel like you might fall then you can just call out to me and I'll make sure you're ok," I said. I don't exactly want to be babysitting him but I'd rather that then for him to actually fall and get hurt.

"I don't want to play," he whispered.

"Wooyoung. Come on. Stop being silly, go to the Gryffindor room and get ready and then we can play against each other ok. Everything's going to be fine, I promise," I said. Wooyoung took a deep breath before looking up and nodding.

"Ok," he said quietly.

"Alright good. Now let's get the hell out of this thing before I start getting claustrophobia," I said. Wooyoung chuckled at that and shook his head and I grinned. Chuckling is much better than crying. I shuffled off to the side and opened the door before slipping out in the hall. I turned around and the internally cursed as I came face to face with Yunho.

"Hey, have you seen Wooyoung? He left earlier but he..." Yunho trailed off as his eyes flicked behind me where Wooyoung was no doubt behind. Yunho's eyes were wide and but they narrowed and his gaze turned back to me. I noticed the second his hand twitched down and reacted on instinct, grabbing my wand as he grabbed his. Before either of us could do anything though, Wooyoung yanked me back and stood in front of me, holding up his hand.

"Yunho, he helped me, he helped me," he rushed out quickly. Yunho still had his wand raised and was glaring at me but he didn't do anything.

"You don't have to cover for him Wooyoung. You left fine and now I find you again and you've been crying. I can put two and two together," Yunho said.

"Obviously not because I had a panic attack but San helped me out of it," Wooyoung said quickly.

"What are you talking about," Yunho asked.

"I um, I panicked about the game after last time and San just calmed me down," Wooyoung said. Yunho relaxed at that and slowly lowered his wand. As soon as he did that, I quickly moved away from Wooyoung, brushing past the two of them and hurrying off to the rooms. I do not need them reading too much into this.

~~~~~
Less than an hour later and we were all in our positions in the air on the pitch, preparing to start the first game of the season. I gripped my broom tightly, glancing to the left to see Wooyoung. His face looked awfully pale which worried me. I glanced around the stands that were basically filled, everyone excited for the match up. I slowly and discretely moved my broom closer to him.
"You good Jung," I asked quietly, not turning to look at him, so as to not raise suspicion.
"I'm ok," he replied quietly.
"Are you sure? You're looking a bit pale," I asked him worriedly.
"Yeah, I'm alright," Wooyoung said. I let out a breath and relaxed slightly.
"Then good luck Jung," I said, turning to him with a grin. Wooyoung turned to me as well and he smirked.
"Be prepared to get beat," he said with a chuckle. Oh it is on. The whistle was blown and the quaffle was thrown into the air. I shot forwards, Wooyoung doing the same however he managed to get to the quaffle first. He ducked down and I had to quickly shoot up so I wouldn't accidentally kick him in the air as he shot under me. So much for being scared of falling off your broom. I rolled my eyes but turned around and shot after him. He was on his way to the goal but one of our chasers shot out of nowhere and smashed into him, knocking him off balance as he dropped the quaffle. I shot to the left, pausing briefly to make sure Wooyoung stayed on his broom and was ok before I flew off towards our hoops. As I received the quaffle and dodged a well aimed bludger before continuing forwards. Just as I was about to line up for a shot, someone collided with the back of my broom and I spun out, dropping the quaffle to grab onto my broom with both hands.
"SAN." I snapped my head back in confusion to see Wooyoung pull up with wide eyes.
"A-Are you ok," he asked quickly. I furrowed my eyebrows in confusion.
"Of course I am. This is quidditch Wooyoung, get a grip," I snapped before flying off. I don't know why he's making such a big deal out of nothing. We scored not long after that and I celebrated quickly before instinctively glancing at Wooyoung. He was already watching me and I frowned at that. He's acting so weird right now.
~~~~~

The game continued on and much like the practice match, the scores were close. We were winning 80-60. It may end up being up to the seekers to decide who is going to win this game, unless we can widen the gap even more. Wooyoung was definitely not on his A game, constantly losing the ball or just not being quick enough. I was slightly worried about him but there didn't seem to be anything wrong other than him just psyching himself out. I ducked down, holding the quaffle tightly as a bludger just narrowly missed the top of my head. I was halfway down the field and preparing to pass to Chaeyong when someone collided with my side. I was knocked off balance and had no choice but to drop the quaffle to try and stabilise my broom. I didn't even need to do that though as instead of grabbing the quaffle like he should of, Wooyoung's hands shot out and grabbed my waist to keep me stable. I frowned and rolled my eyes at his stupidity in front of everyone, however my words died in my throat as I looked at him. His eyes were wide, slightly shaky and filled with tears. I glanced at his chest and saw that it was rising and falling rapidly.

"Wooyoung," I said worriedly. He whimpered and shook his head, gripping my waist tighter.

"Up Woo, fly up," I said quickly. It's gotten kind of cloudy so going higher can give us more cover. It didn't take a genius to know that he was panicking again and it was only then that it hit me why he was truly scared. It wasn't him almost falling off his broom that scared him, it was him pushing me off mine and me getting hurt. The reason why he's being playing so badly, being so cautious, so worried. It's all because he's scared of hurting me.

"Wooyoung I need you to listen to me," I said quickly. Wooyoung let out a sob and I cursed.

"Woo, you need to calm down," I said gently.

"I-I'm sorry," Wooyoung whimpered. I flew even closer to Wooyoung, so close our legs were brushing against each other. I steadied my broom and slipped my hand into his, squeezing it gently.

"Wooyoung nothing is going to happen. All you did is ram my side, I can take hits worse than that, I am telling you that," I said firmly. The tears continued to fall from his eyes and I glanced down quickly, relieved that all I could see was fog. I reached up quickly and cupped his face, wiping the tears with my thumb. Wooyoung sobbed and let go of his broom, reaching out for me. I panicked and quickly wrapped my arms around his waist, holding him steady tightly while keeping balanced as well. His arms wrapped around my shoulders and he continued to cry.

"Just take a deep breath for me Wooyoung," I said softly, moving my hand up to rub his back.

"I don't want to hurt you," he said.

"You aren't going to Wooyoung, I know you aren't," I said quickly.

"Breathe, just breathe," I whispered, leaning forwards and resting my forehead against his. Wooyoung sniffled but I felt and heard him take a deep breath and the then another.

"That's good, just keep doing that," I told him. He calmed down slowly, his head dropping down to rest on my shoulder while he drew in one last deep breath and relaxed. I continued to hold him though, rubbing his back and squeezing his waist softly. I was startled back to the present and remembered what was going on when I heard a sharp whistle and a bunch of loud cheers. Shit, that marks the end of the game and Wooyoung and I have been up here out of the play for who knows how long and that's going to look very suspicious.

"Did someone catch the snitch," Wooyoung asked quietly.

"I think so," I said with a nod as I pulled back. I quickly reached up and cupped his face, brushing all of the tears from his face to try and make him look more presentable.

"I need you to do me favour Wooyoung," I said quietly.

"I mean you helped me out of two panic attacks so of course," Wooyoung said.

"I need you to punch me in the nose. Not too hard that it will break it but hard enough that it will draw blood," I told him.

"I'm sorry, what," Wooyoung asked in shock.

"Youngie just do it please," I pleaded. His eyes widened in shock, his mouth parting slightly.

"Y-You haven't called me that since first year," he whispered. I paused in confusion, thinking over what I said before I realised.

"Then it's just a testament to how serious I am right now Wooyoung. We just disappeared in the middle of a quidditch match and the game is now over. People are going to be suspicious and there will be rumours. I don't know what they'll be but I'm certain it won't be very fun for you. At least if you punch me then they will just think that we were being idiots just like usual," I said.

"Idiots that hate each other," Wooyoung whispered. I sighed but nodded.

"Because we do," I said quietly.

"I've always wanted to punch you in the face," Wooyoung said with a light chuckle.

"Well now is your chance," I said.

"You'd seriously rather I punched you than for people to know you cared about me," Wooyoung asked.

"I don't-."

"Bullshit. If you don't care about me then stop helping me, stop giving me an hour. Stop giving me hope that you're back to the San I know and then ripping it away. I'm not going to punch you San, you can deal with the stupid rumours yourself," Wooyoung spat before flying down immediately, leaving me up in the air. Ok, so that wasn't something I was expecting. He didn't need to be so snappy, we both know that we don't actually care for each other. I flew down slowly to see the stands already emptying and the Gryffindor's celebrating. Oh you've got to be kidding me, we lost. I groaned and landed on the grass, dismounting my broom quickly. How could we have lost? Wooyoung is one of their better chasers and he was freaking out the entire game. Next time I'll just leave him to freak out because he was all snappy at the end. I gripped my broom tightly and stormed off towards the rooms.

"Well look who decided to show up." I remained silent at the words of one of our beaters and went to my locker, changing out of my uniform and into comfortable clothes. I cannot believe we just lost to Gryffindor.

"What, not going to say anything after you disappeared for half of the game with that blood traitor Jung. Didn't realise you actually put up with tainted halfbreeds." I spun around in an instant, my wand drawn. A small smile slipped on my face, though not one of happiness. I muttered a few words and a spell shot from my wand, hitting him directly in the chest. He cried out and fell back as a rash ran over his entire arms.

"Next time hit the bludgers more accurate dumbass," I said before leaving the room quickly. God I hate some people sometimes. I was going to head back to my room but I felt frustration bubbling up inside me and I knew I needed to go somewhere quiet to try and actually sort through my emotions. I turned off towards the Forbidden Forest, walking into it quickly and heading to a path I knew well. Sure, you aren't supposed to go into the forbidden forest but it's basically like my safe space where I can relax. I walked for a few minutes before I finally came to the spot that I wanted and I sat down on the log, leaning back against the tree. It didn't take long for me to hear footsteps and I glanced up to see Seonghwa moving over and sitting down beside me. He didn't say anything, just sat next to me in silence as I sifted through my thoughts.

"I think there's something wrong with me," I said quietly, breaking the silence.

"Why," Seonghwa asked.

"Because I'm acting really weird this year," I said shaking my head.

"You need to elaborate more Sannie," Seonghwa replied.

"I think I'm going soft," I said with a sigh.

"San, you've always been soft, even if you hide it under your fake tough boy persona," Seonghwa said with a scoff.

"It's not fake Hwa, I am tough," I grumbled.

"Back to the issue at hand, I'm going to assume you are talking about whatever is currently happening with you and Wooyoung," he said. I sighed and thumped my head back against the tree.

"I don't know what's wrong with me Seonghwa," I groaned, lifting my hands up to grip my hair.

"There's nothing wrong with you San," Seonghwa said. I let out a deep breath and relaxed slightly, debating what I should or shouldn't say. Seonghwa is my best friend, my brother, my closest confident, I trust him with my life. I leaned forward and dropped my elbows onto my knees.

"Did you know Wooyoung's father hurts him," I asked. Seonghwa was quiet for a few seconds before replying.

"I sometimes suspected from the way he acts. If you pay close attention to him, you can see he flinches at little things, not to mention how he is around food," Seonghwa said.

"What does his eating habits have to do with this," I asked.

"It's not so much just his eating habits, it's more so when he talks about them. I've heard him talking to Yeosang about it and saying stuff like it will make him more thin for his dad or he's never really eaten much growing up. It's barely there but I usually notice the little things," Seonghwa said quietly. I frowned at that, picturing little Wooyoung at home being starved.

"Don't overthink it Sannie, there's nothing we can do about it right now," Seonghwa said.

"He had a panic attack today, two actually. He's scared of flying because of what happened with me and it's so ridiculous because he's been flying since he was like four," I explained.

"Did you look after him," Seonghwa asked.

"Of course I did, I hate seeing him ups-. I don't like people crying around me, it makes me uncomfortable," I rushed out quickly.

"Is that why you guys disappeared during the game," Seonghwa asked.

"Yeah, he got scared so I made sure he was ok," I replied.

"Ok and why would you do that," Seonghwa asked. Huh?

"What," I asked in confusion.

"Why would you help him," Seonghwa asked me.

"Because he needed help," I said slowly.

"If Juyeon needed help, would you help him," Seonghwa asked. I immediately cringed at that.

"Of course not, Juyeon is an asshole," I said immediately.

"So you wouldn't look after Juyeon but you would look after Wooyoung," Seonghwa said slowly. What part of this does he not understand?

"Of course. I hate Juyeon but I care about Wooyoung," I snapped in annoyance.

"And there we have it, you have finally admitted it. God I feel like this has taken years," Seonghwa said, letting out a breath of relief. I was confused but then I realised what I said and my eyes widened. I said I care about Wooyoung. I care about Wooyoung. Jung Wooyoung, the boy I have so adamantly hated for years. Well shit.
