Chapter 2: Monday 10th of October

San's POV

Jung Wooyoung is the most infuriating human being in the entire world. It's like his existence was made just to spite me and make me want to curse every second I see him.

"Stop huffing, you're being annoying and Hongjoong needs to sleep. If you wake him up, I'm going to curse you to vomit slugs for the rest of the day," Seonghwa said sharply, his voice cutting through my thoughts. I tilted my head to the side and looked over to where Seonghwa was lying on the couch reading a book with Hongjoong sleeping on his chest.

"You two are disgusting," I said with a scoff. Seonghwa lowered his book at that, glaring at me.

"What, it's true. Why don't you tell him you just confess already and save me the misery of watching you two constantly dance around your feelings," I said with a shrug.

"There's nothing I need to confess," Seonghwa replied quickly. I don't know who he thinks he is fooling, certainly not me. It's obvious that Seonghwa has been in love with Hongjoong for at least three years.

"Seonghwa I've known you since we were in diapers. You may be able to act like you're this emotionless person with others but I know you better than that," I said. Seonghwa frowned but didn't say anything, instead turning to look back at his book.

"What are you huffing about," he asked quietly. I sighed and shuffled around in the armchair I was sitting in pulling my feet to rest on it as I faced Seonghwa. He put his book down once again but this time closing it fully and putting it on the table as he looked over at me, giving me his undivided attention. That's one of the things I love so much about him, the fact that he is always willing to listen whenever I need to rant to him. I wanted to angrily rant about what is bothering me but Seonghwa is right, Hongjoong needs sleep as he hasn't been sleeping well so I knew I needed to stay quieter. Hongjoong may be a muggle born but he is sweet and Seonghwa cares for him.

"It's Jung, he's driving me crazy," I said with a sigh.

"Has he been bothering you again," Seonghwa asked quietly.

"When is he not? It's never ending with him, all the snide remarks, thinking he's so much better than everyone else," I said, lowering my voice slightly as I realised I was beginning to get a bit riled up.

"Hongjoong says Wooyoung is actually pretty nice," Seonghwa said. I scoffed at that, and ran my tongue over my bottom teeth to calm down. Jung Wooyoung and nice in the same sentence?

"And how many times have I told you he's an asshole," I asked him.

"I know and I'm not saying he's nice to you, I'm just saying maybe he has some sort of vendetta against you," Seonghwa said.

"I don't know and I don't care. He's an asshole and that's all that there is to it," I said angrily.

"I know. But maybe you should try to stop retaliating so much. You've already gotten detention three times this year and the first day was only a month and a half ago," Seonghwa pointed out.

"Yeah, yeah, whatever. I'm not going to just stand there and let him be a completely dick and walk all over me," I said, shaking my head.

"I'm not saying you need to do that San, I'm merely saying you should try not to get so many detentions. I'm on your side," Seonghwa said softly. I smiled in appreciation, giving him a small nod. Seonghwa went to open his mouth but snapped it shut as there was the rumble of the snake to enter the common room shifting upwards for people to enter. It's lunch time and most people stay in the Great Hall so we weren't expecting people to come here. That's the only reason Seonghwa allowed Hongjoong to come into the common room to try and get some rest.

I saw the panic in Seonghwa's eyes so I quickly stood up shifting to stand in front of the couch and slipping my hand into my robe to grip my wand just in case. Seonghwa sat up as well, quickly shaking Hongjoong awake. Hongjoong jolted and his eyes slipped open, blinking slowly. I could tell he was half asleep and really confused so I gripped my wand tighter.

A few seconds later two Slytherin guys walked in and I recognised them to be two 4th year purebloods. They both paused and glanced behind me, no doubt noticing the blue in the robes Hongjoong was wearing and doing a double take. I clenched my jaw and narrowed my eyes in anger, tilting my head slightly as if daring them to try something. They were silent for a few more seconds as they glanced around before seeming to ultimately decide it wasn't worth it. Smart choice.

Once they were gone to their chambers, I turned around to find Hongjoong curled up with his head tucked down in Seonghwa's chest as Seonghwa had a hand cupping the back of his head and to hide him. Hongjoong slowly turned his head around, peaking out before grinning.

"You guys are so overprotective," he giggled. I frowned and rolled my eyes at that.

"It's not our fault you're tiny and too nice to fight back when you get bullied," I said with a shrug.

"Hey, I'm not tiny," Hongjoong whined with a pout. I glanced at Seonghwa and noticed he was holding back a smile before I smirked and looked back at Hongjoong.

"I hate to break it to you but you're tiny Kim," I said with a chuckle.

"Choi," Seonghwa scolded me immediately and I rolled my eyes. So whipped.

"Sorry. You're tiny, Hongjoong," I said, rolling my eyes.

"You guys are so mean," Hongjoong said, yawning and stretching before standing up. I scoffed at that and rolled my eyes yet again.

"We should probably get going and head to our classes, they should be starting soon," Seonghwa said.

"What do you have next Sannie," Hongjoong asked. I frowned at the nickname but let it go.

"I have herbology with Jung," I said with a frown.

"Well go run and grab your textbooks so we can go," Seonghwa said. I frowned but nodded and ducked back to my chambers, grabbing my textbooks before going back to the common room. When I got back, Hongjoong was fixing up Seonghwa's robes and gently brushing his hair into place. They're so oblivious.

"Let's go," I said and we all left the common room, heading out into the halls. The minute we stepped outside, Seonghwa and I's demeanour changed, it had to change. We're purebloods, we have rules we have to live by and we have expectations from our parents. Show no weakness and know that we're better than others. That's what they want, that's what we have to do. We have to make our parents proud.

"I'll see you later," I said, giving a nod to Seonghwa before turning down another hall. Seonghwa's parents don't know about Hongjoong and it's a secret I will keep to the grave because it's the one nice thing Seonghwa allows himself to have, the one rule he's broken. I love him too much to even think of taking that away from him.

~~~~~
"Ok everyone, please grab out your textbook and turn to page 36, we're reading about rare plants that are found in cold, wet places," Professor Sprout said.
"Um professor, I forgot my textbook." I glanced back with a smirk as I saw the nervous look on Wooyoung's face from where he was sitting near the back.
"Very well, you can come and sit up the front here with Mr Choi and share his book. Both of us immediately groaned at that but Professor Sprout clicked her tongue.
"If you had brought your textbook with you Mr Jung, then you wouldn't be in this situation," Professor Sprout groaned.
"But why do I get punished because of his idiocy," I said with a groan.
"You should feel proud Mr Choi. I chose you as you have one of the highest grasps on this subject," Professor Sprout said.
"Oh, so you're saying his stupid. I agree," I said with a giggle. There was a bang and I spun around just in time to see Wooyoung lunge and tackle me from my chair. A muggle fight. This idiot is starting a muggle fight.
"Mr Choi, Mr Jung, that is enough!" Neither of us stopped, both falling to the floor as we scuffled with each other. I tried to land a punch on him but it didn't work very well as I'm not good at muggle fighting.
"Incarcerous," Professor Sprout yelled. I was groaned as invisible ropes suddenly wrapped around me, stopping me from moving. I glanced to the side to see Wooyoung panting with a red face as he was in the same predicament as I was.
"I have had enough of you two. You are to go straight to the headmaster's office and be dealt with accordingly. I will send him word of you two coming so don't even try to pull anything," Professor Sprout said angrily. She took away the binds and the two of us stood quickly. I clenched my fist closed tightly to try and hold back my anger. I don't know why I'm being punished, he was the one that attacked me.
"Mr Kang, escort Mr Choi and Mr Jung to the Headmasters office," Professor Sprout said. I saw the Ravenclaw nod before standing and grabbing Wooyoung's arm and tugging from the room. I frowned in annoyance but follow them out of the room and down the halls. I remained a few paces back, watching as the two interacted.
"That was stupid Youngie," Yeosang said quietly but I still heard him. Wooyoung jolted and went to turn around but Yeosang stopped him and pushed him forwards to continue walking.
"He called me stupid," Wooyoung said angrily, trying to turn to face me but Yeosang grabbed his chin and stopped him once again. I smirked at that, happy to have been bothering him so much. It took a few minutes before we finally got to the headmasters office. Yeosang stopped in front of the gargoyle.
"Grindylow," Yeosang said. It was silent for a few seconds before wall moved slightly and a winding staircase was shown.
"I'll see you later," Yeosang whispered, kissing the top of Wooyoung's head before letting him go and allowing him to walk up. I went to followed but was stopped suddenly by a hand on my wrist. I made sure my face was impassive before turning to Yeosang.
"You're an ass, you know that right," he said with a frown. I chuckled humourlessly at that and ran my eyes down and up his body.
"You're lucky you're Hongjoong's friend or you wouldn't be so confident," I said, darkening my gaze. Yeosang scoffed at that and rolled his eyes.
"Please, you don't have it in you to hurt me. You act like an ass but I know you aren't. What is it that you have against Wooyoung? Why do you have to torment him so much," Yeosang asked.
"In case you haven't noticed, he starts it most of the time," I pointed out.
"No, he doesn't. He may start the actual fights but you torment him constantly for no reason," Yeosang said.
"He's a blood traitor," I said with a shrug.
"And I'm a half-blood, Hongjoong is a muggle born. Don't think I don't know how protective you and Seonghwa are over him," Yeosang said. I frowned angrily at that and yanked my wrist from his hand, stepping closer to him.
"You stay out of this Kang. Who Seonghwa is or isn't friends with isn't your concern," I spat angrily.
"For god's sake San, I'm not threatening you. Why are you always so uptight and angry at the world. Not everyone is out to get you," Yeosang said with a sigh.
"I just want to know why you're hurting my friend so much. All it does is get both of you in trouble," Yeosang said.
"I hate Jung Wooyoung and I will make that very clear every chance I get," I said tauntingly. I saw Yeosang's face scrunch up in anger as his fists clench.
"Come on, show me that mudblood half of you," I said with a giggle. Just as I thought Yeosang was going to stop and hit me, he straightened out and took a deep breath.
"I pity you San," he whispered before turning and leaving. I just stood there for a few seconds in confusion, watching as he walked away before shaking my head and brushing it off. I quickly climbed up the winding staircase into the Headmasters office where I found Headmaster Yoon at his desk with Wooyoung sitting in one of the chairs in front of it. As I walked to the seat, I noticed how Wooyoung was gripping the arms of the chair tightly. I was confused but sat down.
"San, thank you for joining us," Headmaster Yoon said. I bowed my head down in a nod as a reply.
"As I was just telling Wooyoung here, your behaviour continues to be out of hand. I've had complaints from multiple Professors about how the two of you act out in classes and detentions clearly aren't enough. I have sent owls to both of your parents and they will apparate to Hogsmede tonight and come here where we will have a more lengthy discussion with the two of you. I am very disappointed with your behaviour. You are excused from the rest of class today and you are to head to you dormitories where you will remain until dinner and then come straight back to my office," Headmaster Yoon said. Great, mum and dad will not be happy about having to come in. However, I shouldn't get into too much trouble as the reason for the call is me berating a blood traitor. In their eyes that's a good thing, it will make them proud of me.
"You two are better than this, I know you are. You are dismissed for now," Headmaster Yoon said. Both Wooyoung and I nodded before standing and leaving the room silently, climbing down the stairs as they closed back up behind us. I immediately turned to Wooyoung but he already started walking so I hurried to catch up.
"Look like someone's going to be in trouble with mummy and daddy," I said with a chuckle.
"Shut up," he said tightly, quickening his pace as I struggled to keep up.
"Jeez, someone isn't happy," I said. He stopped suddenly and turned to face me as I stopped on instinct. I was shocked to see deep emotion in his eyes, hurt mixed in with it.
"Please just stop San, not now," he whispered. I was shocked and I felt my face drop. He always retaliates, he always fights back, that's basically our entire dynamic. Before I could recover from the shock and muster up a reply, he had already spun around and hurried off. That was confusing and I felt a pang of worry shoot through me for the younger before catching myself and pushing it away. Why the hell would I care what's wrong with a stupid blood traitor, I don't care. Mum and dad wouldn't care and they certainly wouldn't want me to care. I just continued off towards the Slytherin common room.
~~~~~

Later that night I was in the Great Hall, sitting with Seonghwa as we ate dinner. We were alone down the end of the long table as usual, given that not many people usually come and sit near us.

"So your parents are coming tonight," Seonghwa said with a sigh.

"Yeah, it'll be fine though. They'll probably just praise me for showing a blood traitor their place," I said with a shrug, poking around at my food. I didn't realise how tense I was until I felt Seonghwa place his hand on my thigh under the table and I relaxed.

"It's alright, they'll be happy ok, not disappointed," he said softly. I nodded quickly, swallowing down the lump in my throat as I gave him a tight smile.

"They'd be proud of me," I nodded. He squeezed my leg softly before turning back to his food. I glanced at my plate but didn't feel too hungry. Instead I found myself glancing around the Great Hall, my eyes drifting to the Gryffindor table. I scanned it quickly but there was no sign of Wooyoung and I furrowed my eyebrows at that. I continued to look around the hall to try and find him but there was no sigh. He must not have wanted to come down for dinner and instead rather to wait for his parents.

"Sannie, eat," Seonghwa said softly. I jolted but nodded and continued to eat my food.

Once dinner was finished everyone started to file from the Great Hall and into the rest of the halls, heading towards the their common rooms.

"I'll see you tonight. Tell Mr and Mrs Choi that I said hello," Seonghwa said quietly before walking off. I sighed before heading towards the Headmasters office. I was dreading the conversation that was going to happen, though I know they will be proud of me. I arrived out the front to find Wooyoung already there, just standing and facing the gargoyle, not saying anything.

"Forgotten the password already? Didn't realise you were-."

"I know the password, just waiting for you to show up," Wooyoung said, cutting me off. His voice was monotone, no hint of cheekiness and when he glanced at me, his face was void of emotion, kind of how Seonghwa is most of the time.

"Whatever," I muttered. I said the password and the staircase was shown, both of us walking up the steps. My parents were already there, as was another guy I'm going to assume is Wooyoung's father. I walked over and sat down on the chair beside my parents and Wooyoung went over to sit by his father.

"Thank you for coming. As you already know, we are here to discuss your children's behaviour," Headmaster Yoon said.

"What exactly has my son done wrong," Mr Jung asked.

"The two boys are constantly at each other's throats and disrupting class as a result of this. They have gotten into physical altercations, gotten into duels and just in general argue and refuse to work together in class," Headmaster Yoon explained.

"And what exactly are these fights about? What caused them," my mum asked. Headmaster Yoon sighed and glanced between the two of us.

"Would you boys care to explain," he asked. I glanced over at Wooyoung, seeing his eyes still void of emotion. It was odd and eerie as I'm used to see so much life in them. I remained silent before feeling a nudge on my shoulder. I glanced up to see disappointment in my father's eyes and my stomach dropped. I don't want my parents disappointed in me.

"He is friends with Kang Yeosang," I said quietly. Immediately my parents seem disgusted and turned their noses up, glancing down at Wooyoung who had curled up slightly. Every pureblood knows each other so everyone knew when Yeosang's mother married a muggle born and my parents were amongst those who were disgusted. I glanced over at Mr Jung, expecting him to say something but he remained quiet.

"San, what does being friends with Yeosang have to do with anything," Headmaster Yoon asked. I didn't say anything else, just shrugged.

"I'm sure they're just boys being boys. I will talk to Wooyoung and get him to behave," Mr Jung spoke up.

"As will we," my father said with a sweet voice. Headmaster Yoon glanced between Wooyoung and I with narrowed eyes but didn't say anything.

"Very well, you boys may go. Thank you for your time Mr and Mrs Choi and you Mr Jung. Tell your wife I said I hope she feels better," Headmaster Yoon said. We all stood and bowed down before leaving the room and heading downstairs. Both families went separate ways and my parents and I stopped in the hall.

"Well done son," my father said, patting my shoulder. I felt an odd feeling pooling in my stomach but I forced a smile and nodded.

"We are so proud of you for dealing with that blood traitor like a true Slytherin," my mum said.

"Thanks mum," I said quietly.

"Aww, you keep doing what you're doing Sannie. If you get detention then so be it. That boy should know better than to hang out with a filthy half blood," my mum said.

"Yeah," I said with a short nod.

"How is Seonghwa going," my mum asked.

"He's good, he said to say hello," I said with a nod.

"Ah, he's so perfect, such a good role model. He's a perfect pureblood," she said. I nodded at that, deliberately making sure to not have any of my thoughts drift to a certain small Ravenclaw.

"We have to head home but I will up your allowance for your next trip to Hogsmede," my father said.

"Thank you," I replied, bowing slightly. My father pulled me into a rough and awkward hug but I melted into it, hugging him back. He only hugs me when I make him proud but I love his hugs. It barely lasted a few seconds before he pulled away again and I quickly, schooled my expression.

"Try not to make us have to come here again but other than that, do whatever you think is necessary," my father said. I nodded, bowing once again before they turned and left down the hall. I waited for them to turn the corner and go out of sight before I let out a sigh and leaned back into the wall, dropping my head back against it with a thud. I took a deep breath and rubbed my hands over my face before straightening up and tugging my robes back into order. Now that that's over and done with, I can go back to the common room and inform Seonghwa what happened. I began walking down the halls for a few minutes before I heard the sound of hushed yelling. I immediately recognised it as Wooyoung's dad and I grinned. I remained quiet and hurried over to the door of the classroom the sounds were coming from. It was slightly open so I peeked through the crack to see what was happening. Wooyoung was by a desk with his shoulders hunched as his dad stood in front of him.

"I have already told you to stop being friends with Kang Yeosang," Mr Jung said.

"But dad, Yeosang is my best friend. His mum is mum's best friend," Wooyoung said.

"I don't care Wooyoung, I can't do anything about you mother but I can about you. That Choi boy is right, you shouldn't be hanging out with a half-blood like that," Mr Jung spat. I was shocked, not expecting Wooyoung's father to be so much like mine in his ideologies. Wooyoung has never shown any signs of being prejudice, especially with Yeosang.

"Dad he's my best friend," Wooyoung said, his voice desperate.

"You do not need someone like that in your life, end it," he said. Wooyoung shook his head quickly and I noticed how he curled more in on himself as if seeming scared. I was confused for a few seconds before there was a sudden movement and the resounding sound of a smack echoing throughout the room. My mouth dropped open and my eyes widened in shock as I saw how Wooyoung's head was turned and cast down at the floor while his father stood there with his hand raised. No. Oh god no. What have I done? I covered my mouth in horror, not at all expecting his father to act like that at all. This is the kid that is constantly hanging all over his friends and always so happy unless he's annoying me. I had zoned out a bit but quickly snapped back to attention when I heard footsteps. I quickly rushed off to the side as the door swung open, covering me. Mr Jung didn't notice and just stormed off down the hall. It was quiet for a few seconds before I heard the sound of muffled sobs and my heart broke. I slowly walked around the door and looked inside to see Wooyoung collapsed in a chair with his head buried in his hands as his shoulders shook. I stood there awkwardly for a few seconds before I couldn't take it anymore. I know he probably doesn't want me anywhere near him right now but I can't bear to hear his cries.

"J-Jung," I whispered softly. His head snapped up and his tear-filled eyes met mine before they narrowed.

"Of course you're here. Have you come to gloat," he spat.

"No, never. Not in a situation like this," I said immediately. He frowned at that but other than that he remained the same.

"D-Does he do this often," I asked quietly.

"Why do you care? You're probably hope he does it every day," he said. A stab of guilt stabbed through my heart and I dropped my head.

"Do you want me to go find Yeosang," I asked him.

"Don't you dare. Yeosang has no idea," he rushed out immediately, his eyes widening. I looked up in confusion.

"Your best friend that you've known forever doesn't know that your father hits you," I asked him.

"No he doesn't. And please don't tell him, I'll do anything. I ca-."

"I'm not going to tell him Wooyoung," I cut him off quickly. He relaxed immediately at that before he suddenly started crying again.

"Y-You can go. No need to n-nice now," he cried as he continued to cry. I don't like Wooyoung, I can't like Wooyoung. But I also can't just stand here while he cries with no one to console him, not after what his father did.

"One hour Wooyoung, one hour," I whispered. No one needs to know, my parents don't need to know.

"Wh-What," he whimpered in confusion.

"For one hour let's forget we hate each other," I said quietly, stepping properly into the room and closing the door. He seemed unsure for a few seconds before nodding slowly. I instantly rushed forwards, dropping to my knees and pulling Wooyoung into my arms. I don't hug many people except Seonghwa but I'm hoping I can still give comfort. He broke into more sobs immediately, louder. I quickly fumbled in my pocket before pulling out my wand and aiming it at the door.

"Muffliato," I whispered before putting my wand away and going back to hug Wooyoung as he cried into my shoulder. I held him for a long time, not saying anything, just rubbing his back and giving him as much comfort as I could. Eventually his cries quietened down before ceasing completely and he went limp in my arms. I panicked before realising he had cried himself to sleep. I sighed before glancing around the room. I can't let him sleep here, I need to get him to the Gryffindor common room. It's late so there shouldn't be anyone else around the halls but you never know. Is it a risk I'm willing to take? I glanced down at the boy in my arms before giving in and scooping him up. I adjusted him in my arms so his arms were wrapped around my neck and legs around my waist, while I held him up, using my robes to cover him as much as I could. This way if someone saw us, there's the possibility I can hide him. I don't want to tarnish my reputation but I can't just leave him here, he doesn't deserve this. I hurried through the halls, rushing quickly to reduce the risk of getting caught. It was hard to get through the moving staircases but I managed in the end and I eventually got to the entrance to the Gryffindor common room. The fat lady was asleep but woke up and ran her eyes over me, noticing my predicament.

"My, my, my, what do we have here? A little Slytherin," she said with a grin.

"Look, I don't know the password but can you open up so I can get him inside," I said quietly.

"Unfortunately not, I need the password," she said. I huffed before gently letting go of Wooyoung's legs, allowing them to drop to the floor but still holding him up so he wouldn't get hurt. I shook him softly, jostling him awake. His eyes blinked open and met mine and I reached up on instinct, brushing tears away from his face.

"You should go to bed," I said quietly. He nodded slowly before stepping away and turning to the fat lady.

"Oh and Jung," I said, gaining his attention again.

"This never happened, none of it. Our parents came, we were told of and nothing much has changed," I said. He was quiet for a few seconds before nodding.

"It never happened," he whispered.
