Chapter 16: Saturday 24th of December - Sunday 25th of December

Wooyoung's POV

San has been ignoring me, or at least it feels like it. I thought when he said he would stay back with me, he meant that he would keep me company but I was obviously mistaken. I mean he sits with me for meals but after that, he kind of just disappears for some reason. I've tried briefly looking for him but I could never find him and I don't want to overstep if he maybe just doesn't want to be near me. It kind of has me feeling uneasy though because I opened up to him more that night and he just vanished right after we woke up.

I sighed and tugged a hoodie over my head before leaving the common room. Majority of the students head home for holidays so the halls were basically empty as I took my time walking through them. It was lunch time so I went to the Great Hall, glancing around before I spotted San sitting down the end of the Slytherin table as usual. There were only about eight other students in the hall at the moment as well as the teachers sitting up by that table. I walked over to the end of the Slytherin table and sat down beside San. He lifted his head and glanced at me before turning back to his food and the paper in his hand. The uneasy feeling that had been with me throughout the past few days grew inside me, becoming almost unbearable. He wanted to hug San, badly but they were hardly even talking so he thought that might be overstepping. That being said, he couldn't bring himself to sit there and just be ignored so he stood up quickly and walked off. It wasn't like he needed to eat anyway, he had already eaten more than enough during breakfast.

My pace quickened as I continued down the halls, my breathing quickening with it. I didn't even realise where I was heading until I was walking up the steps to the Astronomy tower. I walked over to the edge and sat down, slipping my legs under the rails and leaning forwards, resting my arms on the rail. I closed my eyes and drew in a shaky breath, dropping my head down onto my arms to try and calm down.

"Youngie! What are you doing? Get away from the edge." I jolted as arms slipping underneath mine and I was swiftly slid back away from the edge. I almost immediately curled into the touch but it was gone just as quickly as it came and I was left feeling empty.

"What are you doing," San asked as he squatted down beside where I was sitting.

"Getting some air so everything doesn't feel so suffocating," I said with a shrug before bring my knees to my chest and curling my arms around them.

"Why did you leave lunch, you didn't even eat," he said.

"I wasn't hungry," I said with a shrug.

"Still, you need to eat. Remember what Madame Promfrey said," San told me.

"I'm fine. Missing one meal won't make a difference," I said, looking down at my fingers as I fiddled with them to avoid looking at San.

"Come on, let's go back so you can at least get something into you," San said.

"I'm good. You're welcome to go though," I said quietly.

"Hey, what's wrong," San asked suddenly, his tone laced with concern.

"Nothing, I'm fine," I said with a shrug.

"We may not have been back on great terms for long but that's a really obvious lie," San said. I remained quiet, just fiddling with my hands until I felt his hand rest on my shoulder. That's when I finally turned to face him frowning at the concern on his face.

"Why did you stay," I asked quietly.

"What do you mean," he questioned.

"I mean why did you stay back for the break," I asked him.

"Oh. You needed a reason to stay back remember," he said.

"I could've just lied. You didn't have to stay back for me if you were going to ignore me anyway," I said, my voice small as I curled up more.

"Wait, what? I'm not ignoring you," he said.

"Yes you are. You won't go near me unless it's during mealtimes," I pointed out.

"Ok, I think this is all just a misunderstanding. I've been doing the homework we have over break in the library. I wanted to try and get as much done early so we could spend some time together on Christmas day and then I could finish the rest later," San said. I checked most of the castle but of course I didn't check the library.

"Oh," I said quietly, watching as a small smile slipped onto his face.

"Yeah, oh," he said with a nod.

"Did you-. Does, um, does that mean you'd be ok if I hug you," I asked nervously.

"Yeah, I'm ok with that," he replied. I hesitated for a second before dropping my knees down and lunging forwards, hugging him tightly. His arms wrapped delicately around my waist and his tugged me onto his lap as he sat down properly. I snaked my arms around his waist, shifting around so I could then wrap my legs around his waist as well, my head dropping down onto his shoulder to snuggling into his neck. Right away that uneasy feeling started to go away, my heartrate calming down. San lifted his head slightly and started rubbing up and down my back, raking his nails along it gently. My muscles untensed and I just flopped completely in his hold, my eyes slipping closed as I took slow, deep breaths. This is exactly what I needed, just to be held. By him.

"You doing ok," he asked softly.

"M'fine," I mumbled.

"You um, you don't seem fine. You're acting like this is the best hug in the world," San said slowly.

"That's cos it is," I said with a shrug, tightening my grip around his neck.

"Did I um, do something wrong? Something that made you really, need this? I don't know much about stuff like this but I don't think you're supposed to be this content for a hug," San said quietly.

"I'm always content when I'm hugging you San, but yeah. I've been wanting to just relax and give you a hug since that night but I didn't want to bother you. I tend to want comfort when I'm sad and I talked to you about my dad so..." I trailed off quietly.

"I'm sorry, I didn't realise," he said.

"That's ok, you didn't know," I replied. I felt San shuffled around slightly and I glanced up to see him leaning back against a pillar, keeping me close.

"You know, this is surprisingly comfortable," he said after a few minutes of silence.

"It is," I said, nodding into his neck.

"I can't believe before this year, I'd never done this before," San said quietly.

"Your parents really never gave you hugs," I asked him. Sure my dad hits me now but even he used to give me hugs. I can't imagine a world where I didn't have someone I could go up to and just cuddle when I'm feeling down.

"No, and Seonghwa wasn't really big on them either. Until he met the love of his life," San said.

"Hongjoong," I said with a nod.

"Yep. Those two are disgusting and they don't even know it," San said with a sigh. I shifted my head slightly so it was resting on his shoulder still but not hidden.

"I think it's cute," I whispered.

"Of course you do," he said with a light chuckle.

"Well, have you ever been in love," I asked him.

"God no. Nothing even remotely like that," he said shaking his head. That does not surprise me in the slightest.

"What about you," he asked. I hesitated in answering, not sure if it was a good idea or not.

"Yeah, once," I said quietly.

"Wait, really? When," he asked as he pulled back quickly to look at me.

"About five years ago," I said with a shrug.

"Five years ago? Wait, that was in our first year. How come I never knew you had a crush on someone," he asked me quickly.

"I mean it was a little more than a crush and you didn't know because it was kind of embarrassing. Not even Yeosang or Yunho knew so it really isn't anything against you," I told him.

"I know, but it's still surprising. Who was it," he asked, wiggling his eyebrows.

"Nobody that matters so you don't need to worry about it," I said, rolling my eyes.

"Aw, come on," he whined. He whined. It's nice seeing the old San slowly starting to come back out, I missed it a lot.

"It was really no one Sannie," I said with a sigh.

"I will get it out of you one day," he said, tugging me closer. I sighed and snuggled back down more, letting my eyes slip closed once again.

"I'm sure you will."

~~~~~
"Oh my god, this burger is heavenly," I moaned out as I flopped against San who chuckled and wrapped his arm around my shoulder.
"The house elves have done very well haven't they," San said with a nod. I coughed slightly as I choked on a piece of as I registered what he said.
"The house elves," I questioned once I finally swallowed the bite I had in my mouth.
"Yeah, they do all the cooking. Didn't you know that," he asked.
"No, I never knew that," I said with a frown.
"Well, where do you think all the food comes from? You know we can't use magic to produce food," San pointed out.
"Yeah I know. I just, I guess I never really thought about it," I said.
"You know the large portrait in the hall past the Hufflepuff common room," San asked.
"Uh, yeah," I replied in confusion.
"Well, if you tickle the pear in the picture, it will show a doorknob. That doorknob leads into the kitchens," San explained.
"How do you know about this," I asked in surprise.
"I sometimes go down to say hello. I sometimes duck down at night to chat and they make me a special dessert," San said with a shrug. Wait, that's actually kind of sweet.
"Wow San, I didn't realise you had that much of a heart," I said. San scoffed and nudged my shoulder before tugging me back to his side.
"I like house elves, they're so misjudged," he said.
"I wouldn't say they're misjudge-."
"You wouldn't? They're treated like shit Wooyoung," San interrupted.
"As I was saying. They aren't misjudged, they're just treated like crap, which makes it worse probably," I said.
"That's probably true," he said with a sigh.
"It's sweet that you get along well with them though," I said softly. San glanced at me with a frown before looking down at his food and removing his arm from around me, rubbing the back of his neck.
"Hey, that's a good thing," I said softly.
"I know it is. From you anyway, just not used to being called sweet," he said with a shrug. I frowned and leant forwards, glancing at his face to see his cheeks were pink.
"Choi San, are you blushing right now," I asked with a smirk. His snapped his head towards me with wide eyes, the pink still very prevalent on his cheeks.
"Wh-What, n-no," he stuttered out.
"Aww, cutie," I said reaching out and pinching his cheeks with a giggle. He gasped and shuffled back on the bench turning away from me quickly. I raised an eyebrow in confusion as I watched him press the back of his hands against his cheeks.
"You good," I asked slowly, watching him nod quickly.
"Sorry. I just, I think I've been getting sick lately. I keep burning up," he mumbled, glancing back slightly.
"Burning up," I said in confusion. I shuffled closer and turning him around, placing my hand against his forehead.
"You don't feel hot," I muttered softly.
"It's gone now, I'm fine," he mumbled. That's odd. A fever doesn't just come and go.
"Alright, if you're sure," I said with a shrug.
"We should actually eat," he said, nodding towards the food. I nodded as well, going back to shovelling my burger into my mouth. I got a few mouthfuls in before I got an idea and swallowed quickly.
"Hey, you said you go into the kitchens sometimes right," I said.
"Yeah," he replied with a nod.
"And you want to spend time with me tomorrow," I asked.
"I do," he said, nodding once again.
"Do you think you might be able to convince the house elves to let us do a little baking tomorrow," I asked.'
"Baking," he said slowly.
"Yeah, like a cake. It's Christmas and it will be fun," I said with a grin.
"I don't know, I've never been much of a baker," he said.
"Come on San, it'll be fun. It'll be like a bonding experience for us," I said, smiling sweetly at him. I could see on his face that he was hesitating but he sighed before nodding.
"I'll meet up with you tomorrow and then we can go down to the kitchens and see if the house elves will let us bake a cake," he said. Meet up. Nuh uh.
"I have an even better idea," I said.
"Which is," he asked slowly.
"You can sleep with me tonight," I said. As soon as I said it, I regretted mentioning it. What if he doesn't wan-.
"Ok. We going to the Room of Requirement or your dormitory," he asked, interrupting my thought. Oh.
"Uh, mine," I said slowly.
"Ok. Um, but everyone else is gone right," he asked nervously.
"Yeah, it's just me for the holidays," I replied.
"Then yeah, that's fine by me," he said with a small smile.
~~~~~

After we finished dinner, we headed out into the halls to get to our common rooms. San went to break off towards the Slytherin common room but I quickly grabbed his hand to stop him.

"You can borrow my clothes. If you want," I said nervously. He paused and glanced at me before nodding.

"Sure," he said.

"Come on," I said, tugging in towards the staircase to head towards the Gryffindor common room.

"Oh my, San and Wooyoung once again. I remember the days when you two used to hang out together all the time. I'm glad to see these visits are becoming more frequent," the fat lady said as we walked up.

"I'm glad as well. Password is Hippogriff," I said. The fat lady smiled before swinging open. I tugged San forwards again, ducking inside before tugging him over to my dormitory. Once we were inside, I realised I was still holding his hand so I let it go. I went over to my trunk and rummaged through some suitable clothes, finding a pair of pants and a top that might fit San as he was bigger than me.

"Here, try these," I said, chucking them towards him to which he caught them swiftly. I then grabbed my own clothes and turned around to get ready to get changed. I spun back around quickly when I realised San had his back to me and was already changing so I did the same.

"Uh, not sure this shirt is going to fit," he said.

"You sure," I asked. I finished slipping my pyjama pants on before turning around as he did. He was holding the shirt in front of his chest as he chuckled. It definitely had no chance of fitting him.

"Yeah, it's a little small," I giggled.

"I can look for another," I added quickly.

"Nah that's ok. I'll just sleep without a shirt," he said with a shrug as he chucked the shirt off to the side. I swallowed dryly as I saw his body on full display, drawing in a deep breath before settling down.

"Nice abs. You've really got to give me some tips," I said with a grin.

"Seriously? I'm sure you've got nice enough abs yourself," he scoffed.

"No, I really do. See, flat," I said, lifting up my shirt and patting my stomach.

"Oh, uh, right. Yeah um, I-I personally think it looks fine, great even. But if you want I um, I can definitely show you some stuff," he stuttered out.

"You good," I questioned with a raised eyebrow.

"Yeah, of course. Now let's get some sleep so we can wake up bright an early tomorrow morning to celebrate Christmas. If that's what you do. To be honest I don't actually really know what normal procedures are for Christmas," San said.

"Procedures," I snorted. He's acting like it's some sort of drill.

"What, I haven't really celebrated it properly much. As I've said before, my parents never really focused on me," San said.

"Well we're going to wake up whenever our bodies clock in. Probably around midday and from there we're going to have a large lunch and then we're going to bake something and have some fun," I said as I walked over to the bed and tugged down the covers.

"Sounds fun," San said as he slipped onto the bed. I drew in a deep breath to remain calm. Now, my bed is smaller than the one in the Room of Requirement and sure, we've slept together in it before but I was sick and now he's shirtless. And objectively speaking he's got a nice body and I am definitely gay, something I've known since I was a lot younger.

"Hey, are you comfortable me cuddling up to you like that," I asked him.

"Yes. Why? Is it weird," he asked as he sat up.

"Nope, just make sure," I said with a grin as I laid down beside him and flopped over so I was cuddling up to him, resting my head on his chest so I wouldn't fall off the bed. His arm curled around me and held me securely.

"Hey Sannie," I whispered after a few seconds of silence, receiving a hum in return.

"I'm glad we're friends again," I said quietly.

"So am I Youngie, so am I."

~~~~~
I slowly woke up to the feeling of a hand running through my hand lightly, fingers gently raking over my scalp. I wanted to open my eyes but I hesitated, wanting to savour the feeling for just a little bit longer. I shifted slightly, rolling closer to the body beside me, to San. He seemed to buy that I was just shifting in my sleep as his hold on me tightened while his other hand gently trailed delicately down my face. An involuntary smiled slipped onto my face and the hand vanished immediately. I sighed and let out a yawn before slipping my eyes open to see San watching me with a small smile.
"Merry Christmas Wooyoung," he said. I smiled happily and rolled over completely, flopping my body over his and hugging him tightly.
"What're you doing," he said with a giggle.
"I'm getting a hug, a Christmas hug so let me have this," I said.
"Are you always like this? I swear you were not this cuddly in the first year," San said, leaning up slightly to see me properly.
"Well, if you didn't start calling me a blood traitor and treating me like shit, maybe you would know this huh," I said with a chuckle. San tensed from underneath me and I snapped my mouth closed instantly. Seriously, what an idiot. Why the hell would I say something like that? Why?
San sat up quickly and I hurriedly moved to the side, giving him some space. He flung his legs around the side of the bed and stood up quickly, walking over to his clothes with running his fingers through his hair.
"You're right, I'm sorry. It hasn't been long since you agreed for a clean slate so maybe spending Chris-."
"Stop. Just stop right there San. It was a joke, a stupid one, curse my dark humour but it was a joke," I said quickly as I moved over to him and grabbed his hand.
"No, it wasn't. Deep down you still feel that way and you're right, I was horrible," San said, his head down and his shoulder tense.
"No. San, I promise you that's not it. I forgave you for that, remember," I said quickly.
"Well you shouldn't and I don't know why you even would Wooyoung," San said quietly.
"Because you were my best friend San," I said, making him lift his head finally. My heart broke as I saw the few tears slipping down his face but I kept going.
"Over Yunho and over Yeosang, you were my best friend. I wanted for so long to be friends with you again. Everything you said to me, it hurt and I retaliated but deep down I just wanted my best friend back," I whispered. He sniffled and a few more tears fell down his face but he stepped closer.
"You know what you did was wrong. And even while you were doing it, you knew it was wrong," I said and he nodded.
"You're trying to change now and that's good enough for me alright," I said firmly. He sniffled and wiped his eyes before stepping closer and holding out his arm. I stepped into it quickly and hugged him tightly.
"There, there. It's Christmas, there's no need for tears right now," I said gently, pulling back to wipe the tears from his face.
"It's ok," I whispered, cupping his face gently. He sniffled again before drawing me into another hug.
"Now, it's time for a nice big Christmas lunch," I said, making him chuckle.
"Come on," I said, grabbing his hand and tugging him towards the door.
"Wait, wait." I paused in confusion and turned to San in confusion as he pulled us to a stop.
"You're in your pyjamas and I'm not wearing a shirt," he pointed out.
"Oh, right," I said, chuckling nervously. It would probably be a good idea to get changed.
~~~~~

"You're telling me you just tickle that pair and a secret door appears," I asked as I followed San down the hall.

"Come on Woo, we walk up and down a random hall thinking a single thought and a random door appears but tickling a pear is too out there," San questioned.

"Fair point," I said with a shrug. He tickled the pain of the large painting and sure enough, a doorknob appeared.

"Come on," he said, opening the door and waving me inside. I slipped in and he followed a few seconds later. When I turned around, I froze as I saw about 20 house elves staring at me.

"Don't worry guys, he's with me," San said as he stepped up beside me and pat my shoulder softly.

"Sannie," one squeaked, running away from the others and hurrying forwards. San removed his arm from around me and stepped forwards, kneeling down to hug the house elf as I got to him before standing up, carrying it like one would hold a child.

"Hey Trix, how you going," he cooed softly. Oh my god, my heart may have just melted.

"Sannie I missed you. You were gone too long," the house elf, Trix said.

"I'm sorry, I've had a lot going on. But I'm here now and I've bought you a friend," he said.

"Who is this," Trix asked as she turned her little head to face me.

"Hi, I'm Wooyoung, Jung Wooyoung," I said, holding out my hand. Trix grinned, her ears flopping up as she placed her little bony hand in mine and I shook it lightly.

"Wow Sannie, you were right about him. Although I thought he hated you," Trix said. I rose an eyebrow up at San in confusion as he let out a weak chuckle.

"Hush, we've made up now," San said and Trix clapped happily.

"It's about time. I was sick of you droning on about him." I turned around to see a slightly larger house elf waddling over.

"I was not droning on about him," San said indignantly.

"You were. It was constantly about how infuriating he was to you. Now that you're friends, that should stop," the house elf said.

"So rude Ralph, and for what. Here I was thinking we were buddies," San said with a sigh.

"Ralphy is just a grump, don't listen to him. It is an honour to meet you master Wooyoung."

"Uh uh, remember what we talked about Scout. There's no need to call us master ok, we do not own you," San said, shaking his head to the other house elf that had stepped up. It surprised me to see him so gentle, so soft with a creature most would think is far beneath us. And given his family history, that makes it all the more surprising.

"Now enough trying to annoy me, I have a request," San said.

"Of course you do San. You never come without a request," Ralph said.

"Now that my dear friend is a lie, and you know it," San said, making Ralph grumble.

"What do you want Sannie," Trix asked.

"Youngie and I were wondering if we could bake a cake together. You know, get into the Christmas spirit," San said with a grin.

"How romantic." Wait, what?

"Oh Ralph, don't scoff at young love, it's cute," an older female house elf said. I blushed at the implication, looking over at San to him with wide eyes.

"No. No Beth, no young love, just two friends wanting to reconnect," San rushed out as he bent down and placed Trix down on the ground.

"I think it's a great idea for some fun. You both are more than welcome to use any ingredients you would like."

"Thank you Gregor, I appreciate that," San said. He reached out and grabbed my hand, guiding me around the benches to an empty one.

"So, how good are you at baking cos I suck at it," he said as he turned to him. I grinned and pat his shoulder playfully.

"I am amazing at it," I said.

~~~~~
"WOOYOUNG. SHIT, WOOYOUNG." I jolted and dropped the whisk I had in my hand, rushing around the corner to see him holding his hand and whimpering in pain.
"Oh my god, what happened," I asked as I rushed over to him.
"I burnt it. Shit, it hurts," he groaned out. I grabbed his wrist and yanked him towards the sink, turning on the cold tap and thrusting his hand underneath it.
"What're you doing," he questioned in confusion, though I noticed him visibly relax.
"Cold water helps soothe the burn," I said.
"And since when did you know this," he asked slowly.
"Oh, Sangie taught me," I said.
"Huh, so it's a muggle thing. I would've expected you to use a spell and take me to Madame Promfrey," San said. Right, so that may have been a better idea.
"How did you even manage to burn yourself," I asked him.
"I was trying to put the cake pan in but on the way out I accidentally touched the metal," San said with a sigh.
"You're right, you suck at this," I said with a chuckle, making San roll his eyes.
"Hey, I tried," San said with a pout.
"I know you did, but maybe I should finish the rest while you watch and then get to eat," I said, ruffling his hair gently.
"Though, do you want to go to Madame Promfrey first," I asked worriedly.
"Nah, I'll be fine. We can go to her later, I'd rather watch you finish baking," San said with a shrug.
"Are you sure," I asked him worried.
"I'm positive Wooyoung. This is my present from you, getting to eat something delicious," San said with a grin, making me chuckle.
"Posit-."
"Yes Woo, I'm positive," he cut me off. I chuckled but went back to the cake I was still mixing. I'm going to make this the best cake he's ever tasted, to make up for him burning his hand.
