Chapter 13: Saturday 26th of November

San's POV

Wooyoung was anxious for classes to finish so he could get to his party, that much was easy to tell. How? By the way that his leg was continuously bouncing up and down under the table as we did theory work for Care of Magical Creatures.

"Wooyoung, relax," I said softly, placing my hand on his knee to stop it. His actions froze immediately and he glanced over at me with wide eyes.

"Sorry, I'm just a little bit excited," he said, his eyes suddenly turning downcast. I frowned at that, noticing how he seemed to feel guilty for being so happy about it.

"Hey, it's ok, really. There's nothing wrong with being excited Wooyoung," I said. He didn't say anything, just quickly turned back to his book, his shoulders slumped. Great, I've managed to mess up once again. Wooyoung remained quiet for the rest of the period, his legs laying as still as a statue. I found myself missing the steady bouncing of it.

DING!

We both stood up quickly, grabbing our book and exiting the classroom.

"You've got a free period now right," I asked him.

"Um yeah, I'm just going to, do some stuff," Wooyoung said quietly. I was caught off guard by how timid and unsure he seemed now. What happened to the outgoing and outrageously loud Wooyoung?

"You ok," I asked gently as I tugged him off to the side of the hall.

"Yeah m'fine," he said with a shrug.

"You sure," I asked. I don't believe what he's saying for a second, especially given how he's acting but I don't understand where it's coming from.

"I'm fine San, I'll see you later," he said quickly before he turned and walked off. Right, there is definitely something wrong. The only way I'm going to possibly figure out what is wrong however, is by talking to Yunho or Yeosang. I sighed and quickly moved off down the hall, heading towards my Astronomy class. When I got to the classroom, there was already a few people inside, one being Yeosang. I quickly went in and over to the back where he was sitting reading a book.

"Hey, I have a question," I said. He glanced over at me before closing his book and putting it down.

"Ask away," he said.

"Would there be any reason for Wooyoung to suddenly get really down and seem upset when nothing really happened," I asked him.

"Depends on what it's in regards to. If it was today then yes, most likely if his birthday was bought up in a negative way," Yeosang said. Did I bring it up in a negative way?

"Tell me what happened and I will explain it as best as I can," Yeosang said, interupting my thoughts.

"He was really twitchy in class and his knee wouldn't stop bouncing so I tried to get him to relax but he sort of just drew in on himself," I explained.

"Ah, right. Wooyoung's birthday was never really celebrated, not since his mum got sick anyway. Mr Jung never really worried about such feeble things in his eyes. Wooyoung has grown accustomed to downplaying his accomplishments and special days. We all try to cheer him up and make is special but he always reverts back the next year anyway. I think he just sometimes thinks he isn't worth it sometimes. He's more insecure than most people know," Yeosang said quietly with a frown on his face. I frowned at Yeosang's words. Who wouldn't celebrate their own kid's birthday? I felt bad for Wooyoung, that it's gotten to the point where he barely even celebrates his own birthday.

"Have you guys got something really nice planned for him tonight," I asked Yeosang.

"Yeah, of course. We always like to go all out for his birthday. We've got cake, presents, party poppers and unlimited cuddles until midnight," Yeosang said. I raised my eyebrow at the last part.

"Wooyoung loves cuddles, even if he doesn't always show it. However not all of us enjoy them, so this is an awesome gift for Wooyoung that he will love," Yeosang said with a grin.

"Sounds nice," I said with a nod.

"Yeah. Also, speaking of the birthday party, can you distract Wooyoung for a bit while we get the party set up after dinner," Yeosang said.

"I mean, sure but it isn't exactly a surprise party if Wooyoung already knows about it," I pointed out.

"Well yeah, it isn't a surprise party but we don't want Woo to be preparing stuff for his own party so we need to distract him," Yeosang said. Oh, right.

"Yeah, I can keep him distracted," I said with a nod.

"Good," Yeosang replied, just as the bell went and everybody else filed in.

~~~~~
"Hey Yeosang, wait a second," I said quickly as he went to leave after class ended.
"Yeah, what's up," he asked as he paused and turned to me.
"Wooyoung's party, how many people are coming," I asked.
"Um, not many. Just Yunho, Jongho, Mingi and me, and well you. Just his close friends," Yeosang replied. Oh, so maybe this wouldn't be the greatest idea.
"Ok, thanks," I said, turning to leave but Yeosang grabbed my wrist to stop me.
"Wait. Why were you asking," he asked me.
"It's nothing really. I was just going to see if maybe Hongjoong and Seonghwa could tag along but I don't think they're really considered close friends," I said with a shrug. Yeosang was quiet for a few seconds as he seemed to consider.
"Yunho might not be too keen but I actually think Wooyoung might like that. He's talked to me about what Seonghwa did for him and I know he likes Hongjoong," Yeosang said.
"So, yes I should ask them," I asked slowly, raising an eyebrow in question.
"Yes, ask them. We should get going to dinner though. You guys should join us at the Gryffindor table," Yeosang said with a nod.
"I mean, I was supposed to do that the other night so I wouldn't mind it. It might be a bit much though, I don't want to cause issues," I said with a sigh.
"You won't San. Today is Wooyoung's birthday and all we all want is to make sure he is as happy as can be," Yeosang said with a shrug.
"I'll talk to Seonghwa. If he is comfortable with it then we'll join you guys, if not I'll have to remain with him," I said. As much as I really want to get closer to Wooyoung again, Seonghwa still comes first.
"Of course. I'll see you later," he said, before walking off. I quickly made my way down to the Slytherin common room, putting away my books and bag before going over to the 7th year dormitory, finding Seonghwa sitting on his bed, untying his shoelaces.
"Hey Hwa," I said, making him look up in surprise.
"Oh, hey Sannie," he said, patting the bed next to him. I moved over quickly and sat down beside him.
"What's up," he asked me.
"I have a proposition for you," I said.
"Damn Sannie, take me on a date first at least," Seonghwa joked, making me chuckle.
"It's Wooyoung's birthday today," I said, watching as he nodded.
"I'm aware. Hongjoong and I stopped by this morning to tell him happy birthday," he said.
"Well Yeosang and that are throwing him a party tonight and we're invited, Hongjoong too," I said. Seonghwa paused what he was doing and glanced at me, raising an eyebrow.
"We're invited? Are you sure? Last time I checked I'm not exactly friends with them and they hate you," he said.
"Wooyoung and I have been working things out. Yunho isn't my biggest fan but Yeosang said Wooyoung would like having us there. Apparently he's one of your biggest fans now," I said with a chuckle.
"He's a good kid. I'll talk to Hongjoong but I'm sure that he'll be happy to come. What time is it," he asked me.
"It's at 8 at the top of the Astronomy tower. Yeosang and Yunho are setting everything up," I said.
"Ok. Well, I'll be there," Seonghwa said with a nod.
"Cool. Also if you're comfortable with it, we've been asked to sit with them at the Gryffindor table during dinner," I said. Seonghwa was quiet for a few seconds before nodding.
"That should be fine. It may stir up a bit of talk but it's not like we haven't grown up with a lot of talk around us," he said with a shrug. I gave him a small smile before shuffling back and laying down on the bed.
"How've you been lately though? I realise I've been so focused on Hongjoong the past few days that I haven't been checking up on you. I apologise for that Sannie," Seonghwa said quietly as he laid down beside me. I rolled onto my side so I was facing him and smiled gently.
"It's fine Hwa, you were looking after your boyfriend not boyfriend. He went through something scary," I said, making him roll his eyes.
"He's not my boyfriend. But all that aside, you also went through something scary. I told Wooyoung to keep an eye on you but I should have checked in on you as well," he said with a frown, moving an arm to wrap round my waist. I melted into it instantly, curling up into his chest. I've gotten more used to the physical affection from Seonghwa, to relaxing in his arms without worry.
"I'm ok Seonghwa, really," I said quietly.
"You promise," he whispered and I nodded quickly.
"You worry far too much about me sometimes Seonghwa. I'm alright ok, I can handle a lot more than that," I said softly. He sighed but nodded, reaching up and ruffling my hair softly.
"It's my job to worry about you San, that's never going to change. It's basically written in my DNA to make sure you're ok," Seonghwa said. I hate that he always thinks I am his responsibility.
"We should probably get ready for dinner," I said. Seonghwa nodded but didn't move from his position, continuing to hold me. I smiled softly and relaxed, snuggling down more in his hold.
"I love you Sannie," he whispered.
"I know. I love you too," I replied softly.
"Alright, dinner time now," Seonghwa said, finally sitting up and tugging me up with him. I chuckled but stood up as well, stretching out my arms. Seonghwa put his shoes back on before standing up and grabbing his robes, putting them back on as well.
"Did you get Wooyoung something for his birthday," he asked as we left the room.
"Nothing much but it's something," I said with a shrug.
"That's good. Come on, let's go get Hongjoong first," Seonghwa said. We left the Slytherin common room and went up to the Ravenclaw tower, finding Yeosang and Hongjoong already out the front talking. Hongjoong glanced over when we walked over, his face lighting up.
"Hey guys," he said as we got to them. He stepped forwards and wrapped his arms around Seonghwa, pulling him into a hug. Seonghwa reciprocated instantly, almost like he was hardwired to do it, rubbing Hongjoong's back softly.
"We were just going to find you two. Did you talk about joining us at dinner," Yeosang asked.
"Yeah, he did. I'm fine with it as long as Hongjoong is fine with it," Seonghwa said. Hongjoong smiled and pulled back, nodding quickly.
"I don't get what you mean but I'm ok with it," he said, making me snort out a laugh.
"Hongjoong that's just stupid. You need to understand something to be able to agree to it," I said. No wonder it's so easy for people to bully him, he's too naïve.
"What San was meaning to say is that we're going over to the Gryffindor table for dinner and sitting with Yeosang, Yunho and Wooyoung," Seonghwa said. Hongjoong seemed surprised at that but also happy.
"Yeah, of course. Why would I be against that," Hongjoong asked.
"I just wanted to be sure you would be comfortable with it," Seonghwa said with a shrug.
"Well I am," Hongjoong said, his hand trailing Seonghwa's arm softly. I furrowed my eyebrows in surprise at that. Seonghwa and Hongjoong have always been close and comfortable together but Hongjoong's actions were, more intimate. Those two really need to grow a pair and start dating. It's so clear that they have the hots for each other, they just keep dancing around each other.
"Let's get going to dinner so we can eat quickly and then we can Wooyoungie's party ready," Yeosang said.
"Wooyoung's having a party? Good for him," Hongjoong said with a nod.
"You're invited by the way. It's at 8 at the top of the Astronomy tower. San was supposed to mention it to you but he must not have come across you since then," Yeosang said.
"Oh, sure. I'd love to come," Hongjoong said with a nod.
"Great, let's get down to dinner," Yeosang said. By the time they all got down to the Great Hall, dinner had already just started. I was a little nervous, not gonna lie but it's Wooyoung's birthday so I decided to suck it up. We walked inside and I followed along as everyone walked over to the end of the Gryffindor table where Yunho and Wooyoung were sitting. They both looked up in surprise, Wooyoung's eyes meeting mine. I could tell there were other people watching us but I paid it no mind, moving over to sit down beside Wooyoung.
"Sannie," he questioned in confusion.
"Happy birthday Youngie," I said, giving him a small smile.
"Is this my birthday present? You joining me for dinner," he asked with a grin.
"Well, no. But it can add to it I guess if you really want it to," I said with a shrug.
"Wait, does that mean you actually got me a present," Wooyoung asked quickly, his eyes lighting up. Yeosang is right, Wooyoung seems to have low hopes for his birthday.
"I did. I'll give it to you later," I said with a nod. Wooyoung suddenly lunged forwards and I flinched in surprise but he just wrapped his arms around me tightly.
"Thankyou," he said.
"Uh, you don't even know if it's anything good. For all you know I could have gotten you a potato," I pointed out.
"Doesn't matter. It's the thought that counts," Wooyoung whispered before pulling back. I didn't even get a chance to reply before his attention was turning to Seonghwa and Hongjoong.
"Hey guys, thanks for joining us," he said happily.
"Of course. Happy birthday Wooyoung," Hongjoong said softly.
"Yeah, happy birthday," Seonghwa added.
"Thanks guys," Wooyoung said happily.
"Are you two coming to my party tonight? Yeosang mentioned possibly inviting you but I'm not sure if it's something that would interest you guys. I mean it's probably going to be really boring so-."
"They're coming," I interrupted, slipping my hand into his under the table and squeezing softly.
"Oh, y-you are," he said quietly.
"Of course Woo. We're very excited," Hongjoong said with a nod.
"Yeah, we're all excited about it. Don't stress ok Youngie," Yeosang said, patting his head gently. Wooyoung grinned and leant into the touch, moving to wrap his arms around his best friend. We all begun piling some food on our plate, and started eating. I glanced over at Wooyoung, finding him just looking around at the food, not putting anything on his plate. I sighed to myself and grabbed his plate from him, adding some peas, mash potato's and a piece of roast lamb before placing it back down in front of him. Wooyoung glanced up at me in surprise before looking back down to his plate.
"I didn't put too much on it so you should eat it all," I said.
"I will," he said with a small nod. Good. It's good that he's not being difficult this time.
"Oh, and Wooyoung," I said, making him glance up at me.
"Can you come with me to the room of requirement after dinner? I want to give you your present in private," I said quietly so only the two of us could hear. He perked up slightly at that, giving me a small smile and nodding.
"How're you feeling Hongjoong? I heard that you got hurt and ended up in the Medical Wing," Yunho said. I glanced at Seonghwa, noticing the dark look that crossed over his face. I felt my stomach drop at the memories of finding Hongjoong in the hall. Before I could feel too bad though, a hand landed on my thigh and squeezed softly. I blinked in surprise but took a breath and relaxed.
"I'm ok, I've healed now," Hongjoong said with a small smile.
"Barely," Seonghwa muttered darkly. The tone of the table dimmed slightly but Hongjoong just smiled and wrapped his arm around Seonghwa's shoulders, rubbing his neck softly.
"I'm ok," Hongjoong assured him softly. Seonghwa nodded and leant into him gently, letting out a breath.
"You ok," Wooyoung asked me quietly.
"Yeah, I'm fine. Don't stress about it," I dismissed him quickly. It's his birthday, he shouldn't be stressing about things like this.
"Just as long as you're ok," Wooyoung said.
"I'm fine," I said with a nod.
"Let's be festive and eat," Hongjoong said with a smile. Everyone nodded and continued eating.
~~~~~

When dinner was over, I was happy to see that Wooyoung had finished his entire plate without complaint.

"Hey guys, San and I are going to go for a walk but we'll meet you at the astronomy tower," Wooyoung said. I met Yeosang's eyes and winked, making him smile and nod his head in appreciation. Wooyoung and I left the Great Hall, making our way through the halls up to the seventh floor. Wooyoung paced up and down the hall a few times before the door appeared.

"Come on," he said, grabbing my hand and tugging me inside. The fireplace was there again, as well as the couch and some cushions. We both walked in and I went over to the couch and sat down. Wooyoung stretched out and leaned against the corner of the couch, raising his legs and dropping them in my lap. I was surprised by the action, not used to having people just randomly put their feet on me but I didn't shrug them off, just allowing them to rest in my lap. I mean it is his birthday, so he should be able to do whatever he wants.

"I quite like coming here with you," Wooyoung said.

"It is a pretty cool place," I said with a nod. Wooyoung hummed before pulling his legs from my lap and shuffling over, dropping his head down onto my shoulder. I glanced over at him briefly before looking back at the fire. Watching flames has always been something that I find peaceful and relaxing.

"What are you thinking about," Wooyoung asked me.

"Nothing really. I just like watching the flames of fire," I replied.

"It is pretty nice. I both love but fear fire," Wooyoung said.

"Fire can be cool but also dangerous so it's understandable," I said with a nod.

"True. Anyway, you said you wanted to give me something here," Wooyoung said.

"Uh, yeah, right," I said with a nod. I tapped his shoulder to motion for him to get up and he did as asked, shuffling over slightly so there was space between the two of us.

"Look, it isn't really much but I didn't really know what to get you," I admitted.

"That's ok. Look, I really didn't expect you to get me anything. I mean it's really not that important," Wooyoung said with a shrug.

"It's your birthday Wooyoung, which means it important. Birthdays are days to be celebrated, special days," I said. I could tell from the look in Wooyoung's eyes that he didn't seem too convinced. I sighed and pulled out the small box that I had in my pocket before holding it out to him.

"Here," I said. He glanced at it before furrowing his eyebrows and grabbing it.

"Did you buy me some jewellery," he asked me.

"Uh, yeah. Sorry if you don't that kind of stuff," I said. I didn't really stop to consider if he would even like something like this.

"No, it's fine. I love jewellery," he said quickly. I nodded and watched as he opened the box, his eyes widening when he saw the necklace. Ok, so maybe bad idea. Maybe he doesn-.

"Thank you." My thoughts were cut off as Wooyoung lunged forwards and hugged me tightly. Wait, what? That's not what I was expecting.

"You're welcome," I said slowly as I hugged him back.

"San I don't, I don't even know. How much was this," Wooyoung asked as he pulled back to look at me.

"The cost doesn't matter Wooyoung, I was just hoping it would be something that you would like," I said.

"Well I do. I love it, it's so pretty. What time of stone is it," Wooyoung asked.

"It's a Rainbow Moonstone. It's known as the stone of new beginnings. I thought it could represent our new beginning, in a way. Looking back it sounds really stupid," I said awkwardly as I looked back to the fire. Wooyoung was quiet for a few seconds before I heard a sniffle. I startled in surprise and looked back over to see that a few tears had fallen down his face.

"Wooyoung? I'm sorry. I didn't mean to upset you," I said quickly, raising my arm and letting it hover aimlessly as I wasn't sure what to do.

"I'm not upset Sannie. I just. No one has ever gotten me something so, sentimental," Wooyoung said with a sniffle. Oh.

"Do you want a hug," I asked him. He nodded and immediately turned around, hugging me tightly. I held him back just as tightly, rubbing his back to try and settle him down. I'm not too fond of people crying, least of all those I am kind of friends with.

"Thank you San," he whispered.

"You've already said that Youngie," I said softly.

"I know but I want to say it again," he said.

"Would you like for me to put the necklace on," I asked him and he nodded quickly. We pulled apart and I grabbed the necklace from him. It was a small delicate necklace, silver with a small rainbow moonstone gem on it. I had made sure it wasn't too big so that it was easy to conceal and not a bother to wear. I unclipped it before wrapping it around Wooyoung's neck and reclasping it softly.

"How's it look," Wooyoung asked with a grin.

"Beautiful. If I do say so myself," I said, making him chuckle.

"I love it San," he said.

"I'm glad. Not gonna lie, I was thinking you might hate it," I admitted.

"Why though? It's a beautiful stone," he said.

"I don't really know you that well anymore," I said with a sigh.

"That's true, but we'll get to know each other better again this year. Build back that bond and trust we had back in first year," he said.

"Yeah, we will," I said with a nod. It was quiet for a minute or two before Wooyoung suddenly giggled and got up off the couch.

"Care for a duel Choi," he asked. I raised an eyebrow and turned my head, finding him standing up in the middle of the room, holding up his wand.

"Really? Now," I asked him.

"Yeah, it'll be fun. A proper duel where we're not trying to kill each other," he said with a wink, making me chuckle.

"Fine," I conceded. I got up off the couch and pulled out my wand, gripping it gently.

"No injuries ok," I said.

"No promises," he said with a grin.

"Expelliarmus," he said quickly.

"Protego," I yelled, just managing to block it.

"Sneaky," I said with a small grin. I tried to use expelliarmus on him as well but he also blocked it. We went back and forth for a few minutes using different spells and trying to either dodge or block. He set the bottom of my robes on fire but I put it out quickly before throwing a gush of water at him. It caught him off guard and I was able to quickly get in the next spell.

"Levicorpus," I said. It hit Wooyoung and he was suddenly yanked into the air upside-down by his feet.

"Hey, that's no fair," he said, trying to stretch himself upright. I chuckled slightly as I watched him struggle and flail around uselessly.

"Are you laughing at me right now," he asked as he stopped struggling.

"N-No," I said, failing to hold back my laughing.

"You are so mean. Accio robes," Wooyoung said. I yelped as I was suddenly dragged forwards by an invisible force, right over to Wooyoung.

"Liberacorpus," Wooyoung said and suddenly he was falling down onto me. I yelped and we fell to the floor, tousling slightly before I we stopped. I groaned slightly and pushed myself up, freezing as I realised I was on top of Wooyoung, pinning him to the ground.

"Ok, I did not think that through," Wooyoung groaned. He blinked his eyes opened and looked up at me as they grew wide.

"Oh, uh, hey," he said with a soft chuckle. I didn't reply, still frozen and unsure what to do as Wooyoung just watched me curiously. After about 20 seconds of us just sitting there like that, Wooyoung suddenly moved. I blinked quickly as his hands suddenly came up to my shoulders, coming out of my daze as he leant forwards. I felt stupid for not moving earlier given how uncomfortable he must feel.

I got up quickly to give him some space, tugging him up as well. I could see that he seemed upset, a frown on his face and I felt guilty for putting him in that position.

"I'm sorry about that," I said quickly.

"It's ok," Wooyoung said quietly. Great, I've just made him uncomfortable around me once again. We were getting along and then I just had to go and ruin it.

"We should head back to our common rooms to get changed. It will be time for your party soon," I said.

"Yeah, that's true," Wooyoung said with a nod.

"Come on, I'll walk you to the Gryffindor common room," I said.

"Why don't we both accompany each other to get changed and then go to the party," Wooyoung asked. I guess he's just trying to smooth things over again.

"Yeah, ok. Come on, let's get going," I said. Wooyoung nodded and grabbed my hand before tugging us towards the entryway and out to the entryway. That's good, he isn't too freaked out by me being weird earlier. I don't even know what I was thinking, I was just being stupid for some reason.
