Komorebi

(n.) sunlight that filters through the leaves of a tree
________________________________
Three young boys stared up at the sky on their backs. They watched the wispy clouds drifting across the blaring sun through the tree canopy, and laughed at their once beloved play spot.

"Ne, Akaashi-kun, Bokuto-kun..." Kuroo groaned out, throwing an arm over his forehead. "I'm gonna miss you." He blew a deep, heavy sigh out through his mouth, directing it up to his sloppy hair.

"Hey, hey, hey, I knew it! How could you not miss a great guy like me?" Bokuto bolted upright, excitement and energy filling him. "But that's okay, because I'm probably gonna miss you more." His energy withered away, a small look of despair covering his face, and he laid back again as his sudden burst of energy withered away.

"It's not like we'll never see each other again." Akaashi muttered, turning his head away from the sky. He rolled onto his side, propping himself up with an elbow, and brushed out his hair. He picked at the blades of grass, leaning his head in his hand. He tossed the blades at Kuroo beside him, observing his exquisite expression of wonder.

He watched Kuroo's expression twist into a frown. "Well, we've been friends since middle school. What if you live far away?" Kuroo whined, turning onto his side to pout at Akaashi. "I won't make it."

Bokuto grinned, leaning over Kuroo from his opposite side. "Oya? What about me?"

"Piss off, Bokuto, I'm serious. We're graduating. We could lose contact." Kuroo huffed rolling his eyes, falling onto his back once more.

Akaashi smiled softly, chucking grass onto Kuroo's face. "Kuroo, we'll always be friends, the three of us. Lifetimes could pass, but we'll always find each other."

Kuroo then smiled brilliantly, his eyes crinkling eyebrows raising, his golden eyes full of life. Akaashi wished to bathe in the splendor of Kuroo's smile, but suddenly, the brief shade they had dissipated, leaving bright light once more. He glanced through the leaves, a cloud covering the sun shifted away. He squinted, annoyance rushing through him, and put a hand up, and around it, everything was white.

The soft fabric curled in his fingers confused Akaashi. His eyes fluttered open, his hand darting up to shield his eyes from the bright sun pouring into the room. He groaned a bit, pushing himself up slowly, yawning and stretching. He pulled his legs so they were crossed before him and placed his palms on his sheet covered knees. His eyes fell upon the leafy shadows on his bed, and lifted his chin so he could see the curtains. They were olive green and lace, holding leaf-shaped splotches of fabric and thicker threads connecting them like vines. The light caused the casting of shadows upon his bed, resembling those of the tree he laid under once in his dream.

He yawned again, his eyes watering a bit, as he turned, straightening his legs and pushing them over the side. He threw the cover away, and stumbled out of the room, smacking his lips lightly. He entered the bathroom, and pressed his hand over the light, waiting for it to flicker on.

He winced and blinked furiously, the blinding LED lights disagreeing with his sleepy eyes. He rubbed at his eyes lightly, yawning once more. he searched for his face wash, or a bar of soap. He must've just went straight to bed. He stumbled back into his bedroom, checking around for his suit case, finding it laid next to his other bags neatly, with a folded up paper note on it.

It had his name written in hopelessly terrible handwriting, and it was clearly a sheet from one of the hotel notepads. He unfolded it, and salvaged the words he could from the miniature letter, squinting and attempting to decipher the chicken scratch.

"Dear Akaashi,
Hiya! It's Sho-Sho. I came and woke up Tadashi but he said to leave you be. We'll save you some breakfast! (Maybe)
Love, Shouyo"

Akaashi lifted his shoulder, scratching his cheek on it as he read, and made a soft grunt of annoyance. He crumpled up the paper and tossed it at the trash, missing by a foot. He rolled his eyes, hastily unzipping his bag, rustling his clothes about hunting for his tooth brush, tooth paste, and facial cleanser.

He threw clothes and shoes and other strange items that made their way into his suite case before finally stumbling upon his small bag of morning necessities. Akaashi wasn't the neatest or most organized packer. He hurried to the bathroom, remembering he had a yummy breakfast waiting for him.

Before he did anything he pinned his hair back with a headband and clips.

He took a cloth from the closet, wetting it gently with hot water, and pressed the steaming rag against his skin. He dabbed about his face, but didn't scrub. He then rubbed on facial wash, and quickly rinsed it away with his palms. He turned the water on cool, wetting his rag again with the cold water, repeating the previous process. After making sure all his facewash had been banished from his sensitive skin, he applied moisturizer evenly.

He groaned as he pressed at his skin, leaning away from the mirror. He chewed at his bottom lip, before picking up his tooth brush. He squirted his paste onto the bristles, before wetting it beneath the water a bit.

He parted his lips as he scrubbed his teeth, humming softly. He moved away from the sink and traveled into his bedroom, picking up his phone.

Five missed messages.

Uh oh. He thumbed open the screen, scrolling through his recent notifications. They were all excited ramblings about the breakfast from Hinata.

Akaashi shook his head, jogging back to the sink, spatting out into the sink, turning on the water to wash it away.

He might as well go see them now.
