Hamilton (Because Shhhh)
(Edited)
Even though the songs aren't really my favorite anymore, figured I'd edit this anyways :)
Tony Stark POV
"Alexander Hamilton
My name is Alexander Hamilton
And there's a million things I haven't done,
But just you wait
Just you wait..."
Tony remembered back when he was younger, he would show his dad that new invention that would surely prove he was worth being his son, worth being alive. His dad obviously never responded with much vigor, too work obsessed to care about his own son. Looking back, Tony supposed it was genetic. But the only thing he could seem to hope as a child was that his father would see him.
He was going to prove himself.
He just knew it.
"Raise a glass to freedom,
Something they can never take away
No matter what they tell you...
Raise a glass to the four of us
Tomorrow they'll be more of us
Telling the story of tonight."
He remembers when the avengers fought all their battles, together. He knew, that they could take everything from them. But never their freedom, or hope. Never would there be no solution, never would they give up and let themselves be swallowed.
And the world would one day join hands and stand their ground, ready for anything.
"Death doesn't discriminate,
Between the sinners and the saints,
It takes and it takes and it take,
And we keep living anyway.
We laugh and we cry and we break
And if there's a reason I'm still alive,
When everyone who loves me has died,
I'm willing to wait for it."
He also knew that he couldn't do everything, couldn't save everyone. There would always be one person who fell, no matter what. Always death, destruction, chaos. Tony was all to familiar with the harsh words of the press, the sobbing of families mourning a loved one.
That won't stop him though. Not when so many more could die. Not when he could save who he could.
"Look around,
Look around,
At how lucky we are to be alive right now."
Whenever he was down, Pepper, Morgan, or Peter would lift him back up. God, he loved those three, even if he wasn't sure how to show it sometimes. They were the only things really grounding him, tethering him to earth.
He couldn't imagine life without them.
"I don't pretend to know
The challenges you're facing,
The worlds you keep erasing and creating in your mind.
But I'm not afraid,
I know who I married.
So long as you come home at the end of the day,
That would be enough."
Pepper was one of the most patient and amazing women he knew. He was the luckiest man alive to have her by his side.
He will never take her for granted.
"Oh, Philip when you smile I am undone
My son
Look at my son!
Pride is not the word I'm looking for
There is so much more inside me now
Oh, Philip you outshine the morning son
My son
When you smile
I fall apart
And I thought I was so smart
My father wasn't around
I swear that I'll be around for you
I'll do what ever it takes
I'll make a million mistakes
I'll make the world safe and sound for you..."
Morgan and Peter meant the world to him.
Morgan was bright, passionate, and knew how to pull her father away from his work. Knowing he had everything he needed to protect her let him sleep soundly at night. She was empathetic too, a trait she clearly inherited from her mother. He hoped he would watch her become a wonderful, intelligent young women some day.
Peter, like Morgan, was a hope for the future. His kindness and compassion always made Tony smile, regardless of his awkward and clunky nature. He was only 16 when he lost his Aunt. He was broken, needing that kindness that he offered to the rest of the world. And Tony, a cold hearted bastard of a man, held it out for him. When he offered to adopt Peter, he saw that smile once again. God that kid would give him gray hairs. But....
"I did exactly as you said pa.
I held my head up high.
I know, I know, shh (I..)
I know I know, I know you did everything just right!
Even before we got to ten, (shh...)
I was aiming for the sky. (I know, I know)
I was aiming for the sky!
I know, save your strength and stay alive!"
When Peter died, He was so heart broken. He promised himself he would protect that kid, from anything. He was IronMan for gods sake! He had the ability to protect the kid he took under his wing, and he let him down.
When he got him back, and the damage was reversed, he decided that no matter the cost, he'd keep that promise.
"In the eye of a hurricane there was quiet
For just a moment
A yellow sky."
His mind was clouded when it happened. With fear, anger, grief, and the loss of hope. He nearly killed himself to get everything back. To give Morgan her brother, his team mates hope for the future, his son back to him.
"If you see him in the street
Walking by himself,
Talking to himself,
Have pity."
He was scared, scared that Peter would be lost forever. He couldn't bear to live like this, without the missing piece. Guilt weighed on him like he had never felt before.
"I imagine death so much it feels more like a memory
Is this where it gets me?
On my feet?
Several feet ahead of me?"
He nearly killed himself. It almost became unbearable. But he didn't, for Peter, for Pepper, for Morgan, for everyone. He wouldn't lose what little he had.
"Oh I can't wait to see you again
It's only a matter of
Time
Who lives, who dies, who tells your story?"
When everything was reversed, and everyone was back together, he couldn't help but think, this is it. This is my family. We're all finally, truly...
Home.
