Tony was lost in thought as he drove through Queens, Pepper Stark sitting in the passenger seat. Music had been playing through the car's stereo as Tony tapped his fingers against the steering wheel along with the beat.
He and Pepper were on their way to pick up Peter from his decathlon practice for the day. Pepper had been checking emails and getting work done in the little
free time she had during the day.
She was trying to focus, but it felt near impossible. Tony had been worried sick over the past week, every since Peter had come home from school with a black eye and his bruised pride. The kid had refused to tell them what had happened. Any time someone brought it up or asked questions, Peter shut them down and immediately changed the subject.
"Tony..." Pepper's voice pulls him away from his thoughts.
"Hmm?"
"What's going on inside that head of yours?"
"I just can't stop thinking about what happened with the kid. This is the third time something like this has happened, Pepper. He needs to tell us what's going on."
"I know, but we can't force him to talk to us."
"It isn't just that. Happy's in on it."
"Why would you think that?" Pepper asks, somewhat confused by her husbands accusation.
"Well I had asked him about it, and he told me that if I really wanted to know then I should ask Pete. He wouldn't say anything else."
Tony pulls into the near-empty school parking lot over to the side of the school. Peter had always asked them to park off to the side to avoid unwanted attention.
They were a few minutes early, so they sit in wait for practice to end. It's around 10 minutes after that when everyone leaves the school. Students leave the school one at a time, until eventually Pepper and Tony are the only one's in the parking lot.
"Where is he?" Tony mumbles to himself.
"Tony..." Pepper replies.
"I mean he should've been here already."
"Tony."
"There's no way we missed him. We're his ride home-"
"TONY!" The billionaire snaps to attention and looks to Pepper, who is pointing off to the side of the school. "Is that who I think it is?"
Tony looks closer to see the teen in question. At first it looks as if he's standing by himself, looking around with fear filled eyes.
"What's going on?" Tony asks. A second later, two other boys come into view. They advance toward Peter who is holding his hands up in defense as he backs away. The boys are saying something, but they're too far away for Tony to understand.
Tony is about to call out to his kid when the first boy shoves Peter to the ground. Pepper and Tony are out of the car in seconds, the latter taking off toward the group. They watch as the boys grab Peter and throw him into the dumpster against the side of the building.
"HEY!" Tony yells. "WHAT DO YOU THINK YOU'RE DOING?!"
The teens spin around to find an angry Tony Stark marching toward them. When Tony reaches him he grabs the first boy by the collar of his shirt.
"Who do you think you are?!"
"I-I'm Flash..." The boy stutters. Flash's friend has already taken off, and had vanished from the scene. Pepper had gone over to help Peter.
"Why were you bullying my son?"
"S-Son?!"
"Yes, my son!" Tony throws Flash to the ground.
"I-I didn't know!"
"It doesn't matter! You don't bully someone like that!" Tony yells again.
"What are you gonna do?" Flash asks nervously. Before Tony can respond, Peter's voice rings out.
"He's not gonna do anything. He's gonna leave you alone Flash." They all look to see Peter climbing out of the dumpster, only to fall off the edge and hit the ground with a thud. "Ow..."
"Peter!" Pepper immediately goes over to help him.
"I'm okay." Peter stands to his feet and dusts himself off. "Dad, can you leave Flash alone?"
"But-"
"Please? He's not worth it."
"Peter he just threw you in a dumpster..."
"So? I'm sure he'll leave me alone now. Right Flash?" Peter looks toward the teen that's sprawled out on the pavement. Flash nods furiously as he stands shakily to his feet.
"I'll leave h-him alone. I-I promise." Tony just sends the bully a glare that would make Thanos cower in fear.
"You better get outta here Flash." Peter says. Flash just nods and runs off to whatever little hole he crawled out of.
"Tony you scared him to death." Pepper says. "Nice work."
"Thanks." They both turn to Peter, who stands there awkwardly looking at his worn out sneakers.
"Hey Peter?" Pepper asks gently. The kid slowly looks up at the two.
"I'm sorry. Please don't be mad..." Peter replies quietly. Pepper and Tony move to either side of Peter and they all begin the walk back to the car.
"We're not mad Pete. Well not at you anyways. We just wish you would've told us." Tony says.
"But I could handle it. I didn't mind him bullying me if it meant he left everyone else alone."
"He shouldn't bother you or anyone else anymore. Did you see the look on his face?" Pepper adds in. This earns a laugh from her two boys as they climb in the car. Minutes later, they're on their way to the tower.
"Was he the boy that hit you?" Tony asks.
"Yeah..." Peter says quietly from the back seat.
"You wanna tell me exactly what happened?"
"He may or may not have shoved me in a locker after beating me up. I couldn't get the door open..." Peter replies.
"How did you get out?" Pepper asks.
"Happy. He helped me."
"Well just promise me that you'll tell us from now on."
"I promise Dad. Now can we go home so I can shower? If you haven't noticed I smell like garbage." The conversation is dropped for the time being as the three go back home...

(Later: Text between Tony and Happy)
TinCan: Hey Hap.
Harold: Tony?
TinCan: Yeah. I just wanna say thanks for helping my kid.
Harold: No problem. I would've lost my job if I didn't.
TinCan: Don't lie to me. You care about him.
Harold: No it's just that he may be my boss in a few years-
TinCan: Noooooooo. You care about the kid. Just admit it.
Harold: Goodbye Tony.
TinCan: Looks like Happy has a heart after all.
