Peter Benjamin Parker always thought he could keep a secret. I mean, he's Spider-Man. Hiding a bully shouldn't be a problem. But what he doesn't realize is that nothing stays a secret for long...

"So I was thinking that maybe you could come by my place and we can work on that new Lego set I got for Christmas..." Ned rambles on to Peter as the duo walks down the halls.of Midtown High. Peter is only half paying attention as he looks around for a certain bully. Flash had been giving him a really hard time lately, and Peter wanted to stay as far away from him as possible.
"That sounds great. I'll see you after class." Peter replies. Ned gives him a nod and they do their secret handshake before they go their separate ways. Peter is halfway to his first class when his Spidey-Senses begin to go crazy. He doesn't need to turn around to know he's being followed. Keeping his head down, he pushes through the sea of students.
Not today Flash. Please not today...
Well of course Parker Luck™ hasn't made him suffer in a while, so here it is. Flash grabs Peter by the back of his jacket and spins him around, slamming him into the lockers.
"Well look who it is. It's Puny Peter Parker." Peter tries to avoid eye contact with the bully, knowing that it will only make things worse.
And yes, Peter could probably throw Flash through a wall, But that doesn't mean that he should. Or that he wants to. Despite how Flash treats him, Peter doesn't want to hurt the poor kid. He does wish that Flash would leave him alone, but we don't always get what we want.
"Flash, just go to class and leave me alone." Peter says.
"Looks like someone's gotten a little bit brave. I think we should fix that." Before Peter can think of what to do, Flash throws a punch. Then another one, and another. Peter just closes his eyes and waits for it to be over. He prepares himself for the next hit, but it never comes. When he opens his eyes, he sees Flash standing motionless and looking up at Mr. Harrington, Flash's fist still set to hit Peter.
"M-Mr. Harrington! It isn't what it looks like! I-"
"I don't want to hear it Eugene. To the office. You too Peter." He says as he looks at Peter's busted lip and now black eye. Peter just looks up at his teacher, feeling confused about the whole thing. No one's ever tried to step in before, so why now?
"Come on boys. March!" Both teens avoid coming near one another as they walk through the halls with their teacher. Once they arrive at the principal's office, Mr. Harrington leaves them both to sit and wait as he goes to call their guardians and gets a nurse to check on Peter.
The nurse gives Peter some ice to hold on his eye and once she's gone both Peter and Flash are left to sit in an awkward silence. Unsurprisingly, Flash is the first to speak. And something tells Peter that he isn't about to apologize.
"So... You think they're gonna call our parents?" Flash looks over at Peter, a hateful gleam in his eyes. "Oh wait... You don't have parents." Peter tries to ignore Flash's comments as his mind goes to his aunt. She's working today, and Peter knows that she won't be able to come to the school. That means he's on his own.
"Shut up Flash." Peter mumbles, readjusting the ice pack on his eye. The ice is practically melted, so he throws it in the trashcan a few feet away.
"I guess your Aunt might come, but she wouldn't want to be bothered with you. Maybe your good pal Tony Stark might make an appearance."
"Did I hear my name?" Peter jumps, nearly falling out of his chair. His Spidey-Senses should've warned him someone else was coming in. Unless it was someone he trusted...
One look at Flash's pale face and fear-filled eyes and Peter knew. He didn't turn around, not wanting Tony to see his injuries. Peter's a superhero for goodness sake. He should be able to handle some insecure little bully. But he couldn't, and Tony didn't need to know that.
"Y-Y-You're Tony Stark..." Flash mumbles quietly, still in disbelief. Tony ignored the teen and turns his attention to his kid.
"Hey Pete." He says gently, moving to stand in front of the Spider-Child. Peter looks down at his worn out converse, refusing to look at his mentor. "You gonna say anything?"
"Hey Mr. Stark. What are you doing here?" Peter mumbles before hiding his face in his hands, already feeling embarrassed about the whole ordeal. Tony sighs before crouching down so he's eye level with Peter.
"Your Aunt called me. Said something happened but she wouldn't tell me what it was." When Peter doesn't move, he says: "You don't have to hide from me like that Peter. You're not in trouble."
The teen sighs before moving his hands away from his face. When Tony sees the bruise on his kids face and the blood on his lip, it takes everything in him not to freak out and become an over-protective parent.
"Pete! What in Odin's name happened to you?!" Tony asks, tilting Peter's face up toward the light so he can see the injuries better.
"I... Uh..."
"Is this why your Aunt called me? Who did this?" Peter subconsciously glances over at Flash, wondering how they'll both make it out of this mess. He may not like Flash, but he doesn't want him to get hurt by a certain genius who's life mission is to protect Peter. Tony notices Peter's change of focus and slowly stands and turns to face the other teen in the room.
"Did you do this? Who are you?"
"Y-You're Tony Stark..." Flash mumbles yet again. He must still be in shock.
"Yeah I know who I am. I want to know who you are. I won't ask again."
"I-I'm Flash Thomson sir." Flash slides down in his seat, trying to shrink away from the billionaire. Tony goes to speak again, but is interrupted when the boy's parents walk in the room, followed by the principle. Tony doesn't know his name, and honestly he doesn't care. He just wants to know what happened to his kid.
Mr. and Mrs. Thomson stand behind their son as Tony takes his place beside Peter. As the principle moves to sit next behind his desk, Tony's impatience only grows. The Principle, Mr. Morita (Tony finally read his name tag) sighs as he looks at the people in front of him. He starts speaking slowly at first, trying to keep everyone calm.
"So I'm sure you all have some questions-"
"You don't say." Tony says sarcastically.
"Now Dr. Stark-"
"No. I wanna know why my kid looks like he lost a round with a kangaroo!" The anger is clear in Tony's voice. And though it wasn't directed at Peter, he flinched anyways.
This was all his fault. If only he would've tried harder to avoid Flash today. Then Tony could be chilling in his lab, and Flash would be on the other side of the school instead of right next to him.
"Well I thought it best that we have the kids explain." Morita says before motioning to the two teens. When Peter makes no move to say anything, Flash takes the wheel.
"Well you see, Peter has been lying to gain popularity. I called him out on it, and when I confronted him he tried to hit me."
"Well then why is Peter the one who's hurt?" Flash's dad asks. This takes Peter by surprise. He thought that Mr. Thomson would take his son's side. But apparently he was wrong. All the adults in the room look to Flash, who is starting to squirm under his parents expectant stares. Peter just focuses on his worn out pair of converse, wishing he could be somewhere else. Anywhere else.
"W-Well you see, I had my friends Tomas and Liam to back me up, and I guess it all just happened. We didn't mean to hurt him. I swear!" Flash rambles on defensively.
"Well let's hear Peter's side of this." Mr. Morita replies. Everyone looks to Peter, but he stays silent.
"Come on Underoos. Let's have it." Tony says expectantly.
"It was my fault Mr. Stark." Peter says quietly.
"How was it your fault Peter? You didn't hit him, did you?" Tony asks softly, his voice laced with confusion.
"No! Of course not! I would never hit him. But I could've taken a different path to class or something. I could've just kept my stupid mouth shut." Mr. Thomson speaks before Tony gets the chance.
"I want to see the security footage, if that's okay." The principle nods and turns his computer to face the others. The footage shown on screen is grainy and there's nearly no audio. Tony pulls what looks like a flash drive from his pocket.
"May I?" He asks. Morita nods in approval and Tony plugs the drive into the computer. "FRIDAY, enhance both Audio and Visual."
Almost instantly the image clears up and the audio is near perfect. Peter cringes at the video playing before him.
Peter looks around anxiously as he makes his way through the halls. Seconds later, Flash comes in behind him. He grabs Peter and slams him into the metal lockers before speaking.
"Well look who it is. It's Puny Peter Parker."
"Flash, just go to class and leave me alone." Peter replies, looking down at the tiled floor.
"Looks like someone's gotten a little bit brave. I think we should fix that." Flash pulls his fist back and takes a swing at Peter. It's four punches later when someone finally steps in, and the video ends.
Peter glances around the room. All eyes are on Flash, who is looking at the ground with shame-filled eyes. His mother speaks first.
"Eugene Thomson I am so disappointed in you. We did not raise you this way." Flash immediately becomes defensive.
"Well he kept lying about his internship at SI!"
"Well son, does it look like he was lying?" Mr. Thomson asks. Flash then looks over to Tony and Peter before turning back to his father.
"No, sir." he says.
"Actually," Tony interrupts. "Peter isn't an intern at SI."
"I told you!!" Flash exclaims. Tony holds up a hand to stop the stuck up teen.
"He's my son." Flash tries but fails to hide both his shock and embarrassment. "And if I catch you so much as glaring at my kid again, you will regret it."
Then Flash does the stupidest things Peter has ever seen him do. He loses his temper with Tony Stark.
"Well what does it matter anyway?! He's just Puny Parker! A lying, stupid, no-good, orphan boy who needs everyone else to fight his battles. He couldn't even throw a punch!" Tony nearly growls at the teen. He pulls Peter to his feet before speaking.
"Let's go Pete, before I'm arrested for assault." Flash just looks at his parents in a panic.
"Did you hear him?! He just threatened me!"
"You had it coming." Mr. Thomson replies. Flash looks at his father in shock before glancing back at Tony. The superhero takes the opportunity to make one last threat- no, one last promise.
"And Eugene, your future is gonna be quite difficult." With that said, he and the Spider-Child leave the building and go to the compound for a movie and some snacks.

TWO YEARS LATER:
"What do you mean, I've been unaccepted?" Flash asks, feeling slightly panicked. He was talking to the acceptance office of his number one college choice. They had sent him an acceptance letter in the mail, only to call and tell him that he'd been... Unaccepted?
"Well, Mr. Thomson, we received a letter from someone very influential to our educational program. We were told you would be better off at another school and that we shouldn't allow you to enroll. The board voted, and you were removed from our acceptance list."
"Well who was it?" Flash asks.
"I beg your pardon?"
"Who told you that I shouldn't go to MIT?"
"Tony Stark, one of our main sponsers, said you shouldn't go to school here. So the vote stands. We're sorry for the inconvenience Mr. Thomson."
There's a click as the call disconnects and Flash slides his phone back in his pocket. He receives two more calls from his next two schools, all saying that he wouldn't be attending. His last choice was a community college he had applied to as a last resort. He sends an email to Queens Community College reading the following:
To the admissions board of QCC,
I haven't received any information about my admission, and I would like to know ASAP.
~Eugene Thomson

Only a moment later, he gets a reply. But it isn't from QCC.
