33) The fall
"Morgan!", called Peter and Morgan ran to him. He sat on the roof of her school. She hugged him and said: "You are late!" he laughed and meant: "I know. I had to do something with Ned." "It's okay. I wasn't bored..." They smiled and Peter put on his mask again, while Morgan put on her Iron-Girl suit.
"Ready?", she asked. Peter nodded and called: "Go!" Morgan started and Peter swung as fast as he could. When he was home, Morgan was already inside. "That's still not fair!", he said to her laughing. "I was just like: Whiiiuuuu!" "Haha. Very funny", meant Peter. He rolled with his eyes, for fun. Morgan laughed and Peter went to her. They laughed and went upstairs to put on their new suits. Peter would give her lessons, after school.
When they were outside, Peter put on Morgan's webshooters and tested them again, before he gave them to her.
She put them on and moved her hand to get used to them. "They are really cool", she said and tried to shoot a web. Nothing happened. "Oh, ehm... Wait. Here you go!", meant Peter and put in the webs. She shot and a web hit the tree.
"Okay. Rule number one: Don't shoot at me!", meant Peter. - Morgan nodded. "Rule number two: Same as your Iron-Girl suit. It is not a toy" "I know. I know" said Morgan.
"Can you start with the interesting things?" "Mmm... Okay. The webs are holding for two hours." "Mm-hmm." "When you need more webs, you ask me. I won't give you the recipe, or whatever you want to call it." "Why not?", she asked. "Because I said so." Morgan rolled the the eyes and Peter explained: "Okay.. Shoot in the tree and make sure they are stable." Morgan shot a web, on the tree, and hung herself on it. She swung a bit around, then landed. "Good!" Peter said. Morgan smiled and Peter gave now instructions.
Around seven o'clock, they stopped training and ate dinner. Peter cooked something.
Later the two went to a cave they found a while ago. Three trees fell over each other and with some more branches on it, it was a real cave. Morgan climbed on a tree. Peter stood worried under her. "It's okay, Peter. I won't faaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa-!", she said. Right, when she said that, a branch broke and she fell. The whole tree was shaking. Not 'cause of the wind. There was no wind... Whatever it was, made Morgan fall.
Peter tried to catch her. Her hand slipped through his hands and she fell on the ground. She cried and said: "My- My- M... My ba- back! It hurts!!!" Peter picked her up and talked to her calming: "It's going to be okay! Okay? We'll get through it! It's okay, Morgan!" He ran with her back home and lay her on the couch. Morgan cried and called in pain. She lay on her stomach. Peter ran in the kitchen and brought ice bags. He put up her shirt and saw, that on her back was blood and it was red everywhere. Peter put the ice bags on her back and asked: "Does your head hurt, too?" She nodded. He got another bag and put it on the point it hurt.
"I'll call Tony."
- At the house of the friend of Tony and Pepper against 4 p.m. -
They arrived and were welcomed from Rhodey.
"Tony! Pepper! Good to see you!" "Hey!", meant Tony and hugged his friend. "Hey, good to see you, too, Rhodey", said Pepper smiling. They went inside and saw some of the air force and some new faces. They got a drink and the party started a bit later.
Later Tony and Pepper danced together, what they haven't done together, since their wedding.
In the early evening, against 7:30, Tony got a call. He looked at his phone and saw, it was Peter, who called. "It's Peter. I'll take it", he said excusing to Pepper and left the loud room.
"Peter! What's up? Is everything okay?", Tony asked. "No! Morgan and I went to the cave and she fell from a tree! She's bleeding and her back is red!", said Peter worried. "Holy shit! We're coming as fast as we can!" He hung up and ran back in the party room. "Pep! Morgan is hurt! We need to go!", he called. "What? I can't hear you. The music is too loud!" "Morgan is hurt!", he called louder. "Shit! Let's go! I hadn't have a good feeling with leaving them alone!"
"Go to the car. I'll say bye to Rhodey!", meant Tony and ran to his friend. "Rhodes!", he called. "What's up, Tony? Why do you have such a worried face?" "Morgan is hurt. We need to go." "Okay... bye, Tony! Tell me, when she's getting better!" They hugged each other and Tony ran outside. Pepper was sitting behind the wheel. "Lemme drive", said Tony. "No. You drank too much. I'll drive. Hop! Come on!" Tony sat next to her and they drove as fast as they could home.
- At home -
"Morgan!", Pepper called, when she entered the house. "Mom!" "Oh my god, Morgan! Are you alright?!", she asked, when she saw her back. "Peter! What the hell happened?"
Tony and Peter were in the kitchen and talked about what happened. "I don't know. She was climbing up and I stood under her. The tree was shaking and a branch broke! I tried to catch her, but I couldn't... I'm so sorry, Mr. Stark!" "Oh Peter...", said Tony quietly. "Go to your room! We'll talk later again!"
Sad he went upstairs. He didn't light the room up. He just lay in his bed and screamed into his pillow. He felt guilty for what had happened to Morgan. He hadn't stopped her. Not even to say she should be careful...
He started to hit his mattress and cried.
"He'll never forgive me...", he cried, "Mr. Stark will hate me forever! I'm such a loser! Flash was kinda right!" "He will forgive you... And you aren't a loser! We love you, Peter", said Pepper. Peter didn't look up and cried more tears in his pillow. Peter didn't look up and in his pillow, when Pepper left.
A while later someone else opened the door. "You alright?" Tony asked and made the light on. "Mhm!", Peter grumbled. Tony made it off again and stepped to Peter's bed. Peter lay under the sheet and was completely covered.
„Deperessed boy?" Tony tried to joke. "Go away!" Tony sat on his bed and said: "Do you want to talk about it? I'm not mad. I know, you tried your best! "Hmm" "Come on, Peter It's okay Morgan's better and you tried. Okay?" Tony put away the sheet and saw just pillows under it. "Peter! Peter! Where are you ?!", he called. "I'm here", mean't Peter annoyed. Tony looked to the window. Nobody. The table. Nobody! "Peter, wherever the hell you are. Come out!" "Ceiling", he said. Tony looked up and saw his son sitting on the ceiling. Peter jumped down and stood before Tony. "Pete. You can't just to sit on the ceiling like it'd totally normal." Peter lay on his bed and listened to Tony: "Morgan asked about you. She's worried. We all heard you crying and she was worried, that she was the cause you're so sad. C'mon Peter. It wasn't your fault. You don't need to blame yourself."
Peter was silent.
He was happy that Morgan was better but he was still upset about, that he couldn't catch her. And he was asking himself, what it was that shook the tree that much.
"If you want to talk, you can come, okay?", said Tony, "Love you!" Then he left. Peter thought: "I love you, too, dad!" He went to his window and touched the gals. "What caused the shaking?", he asked himself and opened the window. Peter turned around and looked at his new suit. Peter took the suit and put it on. He jumped out of his window and landed in the next tree. He looked around and saw in the living room light. Morgan lay on the couch and was watching TV. Peter swung to the place, where the accident happened. He saw some scars in the tree "Hmm...", Peter wispered. "Karen?", be asked "Yes, Peter?" she answered.
"Make me some light that I can see." "Sure!" The light got brighter und Peter looked at the scars... 5 in a row. One was a bit away, from the other four. "Karen? Is there some DNA?" "One moment I got... Dr. Harvey Bryat."
"That makes kinda sense," Peter said. "Isn't that where you have the internship?", Karen asked. "Yeah."
Peter looked around and saw another light. "So... We're going out now, or what?", Tony asked in his suit, "But you aren't talking to me?" "Mr. Stark! I'm 18 and I am worried about Morgan! I'm just trying to find out, who or what shook the tree!" "Peter. It's okay, that you're worried. I'm worried, too. But don't blame yourself. I can understand that you want to know it. But, please! Don't just go, without saying something!" Peter nodded slowly. "Now come home. It's time to go to bed." Peter swung with Tony back home. Peter was so his room and hung his suit back in his closet.
In the morning, when Peter came downstairs, Morgan was up already. "Morning, Peter!", she said happily and ate her muesli on the couch. "Hey! How are you?", he meant. "Better. My back is still hurting but it's better, she said with food in her mouth.
"Did you sleep well?" "No. I- I had too much in my mind." "Oh..." "Are you going to school today?", Peter wanted to know. "I think so. Mom and dad haven't said, I don't..." "Okay. Good."
Pepper drove them to school today.
Pepper said, when Peter was about to close the car door: "Have fun today! Love you!" "Love you, too, mom!" Pepper looked amazed smiling at him. Peter realized what he said and tried to correct himself: "No, wait... I meant Pepper-" Pepper smiled and said: "No, you did not." Peter closed the door. He was a bit red in the face. He had never said I love you and mom in one sentence to Pepper. He went inside and saw Ned waiting in front of his locker. "Hey!", he said. "Oh my God, Ned! I said I love you, mom to Pepper!", Peter said ashamed.
