The Demolished Guild Hall
Hey Dragonettes welcome to my first Wattpad book. I do not own anything. All rights belong to Hiro Mashima. I hope you enjoy!

Screams filled the air as the fairies swarmed around their demolished guild. Gajeel, perched on the roof of a nearby building, observed the destruction caused by his iron rods. The dust swirled in the early morning light. He smirked, fangs glinting in the low light. He felt an overwhelming sense of pride.
Maybe the old man's plan wasn't as bad as I thought. Sure no one was hurt, but, these feeble fairies won't be able to deny the power of Phantom Lord now! There is hardly anything left for them to salvage. He growled. Gajeel watched as the fairies uncovered a path into the undamaged basement. Gajeel ground his teeth in frustration. "Why aren't they fighting?" He grumbled. "How the hell am I supposed to start a war if these pathetic fairies won't fight?" He shifted his large form trying to find a comfortable spot in the shadows. "Well Jose your plan really was a failure. Now it's time for something more my style" Gajeel muttered under his breath.
As the shadows on the roof lengthened he sat thinking. What could he do to entice these placid, peace-loving fairies to the point of war? "Gihi. There is no sport in destroying an empty guild. It's time for the Iron Dragon to go hunting. Surely they won't be so worthless, that they would let the injustice of one of their own being attacked go unpunished." If his reputation was anything to go by he was definitely overqualified in destroying human lives.
Soon there was movement from the depths of the ruined guild hall. Gajeel watched as the drunken fairies left their guild. He looked over the potential targets, quickly running through the pros and cons of each member. While any fairy would create a response, he wanted to find the perfect fairy, one that would shake the Fairy Tail guild to its very core. It had to be someone special to break the self-control of the senile old guild master. If only the master's personality was like that of the explosive Salamander. Gajeel was able to hear Natsu's rage over the annihilation of the guild hall from his spot on the roof earlier that day. But that infuriating master managed to calm him down. Gajeel needed violence, he craved war.
Two mages walked out from the ruins and the smell of smoke and gun powder tickled his nose. Guns magic. Not a bad choice but, seeing how closely the two were walking, it would be unlikely to get the female separated from the male. "Too much trouble." He grumbled. A trio of mages followed soon after. While the girl seemed to hold a special place in the guild, the magic from the three seemed very low. "No sport in picking a weakling" Suddenly he sat up Heartfilia. She would be an easy target although weaker than what he was looking for. He rubbed a spot on his head, Jose had made sure that he wouldn't take her yet. She was just a small part of the much bigger plan. A few minutes later a girl with purple hair left the guild. The sent of freshly cut wood met his nose. "Molding magic, that might be fun." He mused. But she left the guild alone; absentmindedly muttering goodbye, at least he thought that's what she had attempted to say, even with his enhanced hearing he wasn't sure she was speaking the same language he did. Gajeel quickly decided she wasn't worth his time. She obviously kept to herself and wouldn't have the needed impact to make her a decent target.
When the next group of mages were leaving the guild his inner dragon reacted. Mate it roared, breaking his concentration. She is close. I smell her. Find her. What? She is here? I have a job to do I can't go chasing my mate. I don't even want a mate, Bonehead. Remember what Jose said? 'Mates are a weakness; Phantom Lord has no weaknesses.' He growled back. He could feel the dragon fighting for control. Find her now! "Fine you stupid animal, we can pull the wings off of a fairy tomorrow. One day will not make much of a difference. We will find our mate and destroy her." And with that he stood and jumped off the roof in one fluid motion.
Using his heightened sense of smell he searched for the scent that his bolts-for-brains dragon had reacted to. Down on street level the smell of ale and spirits almost overwhelmed his nose. He pushed those smells aside and smelled... plants? It was close but not what he was looking for. Sweat? Definitely not. When he had almost given up the breeze shifted and he caught the delicate whiff of lavender mixed with ink and parchment. Mate. Mine. The dragon hummed. Against his best intentions, as Gajeel tracked the finicky sent, he started dreaming about the woman who would be his mate. She would have to be tall to compete with his 6' 1" frame. Long green hair, a good sized chest, athletic. Gihi, she should be able to keep up with me in a fight. He thought. When did I become so soft. Mate or not she is an unwanted distraction.
Gajeel was like a shadow drifting in and out of doorways and across the rooftops, easily leaping over alleyways like a born predator. The scent grew stronger and he could make out the shadows of three people up ahead. His hands formed fists and he ground his teeth when he realized that they were fairy tail mages. He had watched this group leave the ruined guild, but he had paid them little mind. They were not worthy to fight a dragon slayer like Black Steel Gajeel. The smell of plants came from the man on the left. Gajeel sneered at the man. Moron. Who wants their hair to look like a giant fish is sucking on their head? The one on the right was obviously an idiot. He had on a hat nearly as tall as the female in the middle. He smelled slightly of sweat. High speed magic.
He couldn't help but hear their conversation, sometimes having heightened senses were more of a curse then a blessing. Did they not see their guild? It was in shambles and they dare talk about solidarity and the spirit of Fairy Tail in front of him. The gushing voices of the two men were enough to make him nauseated, but the girl's voice was so disgustingly happy that he wanted to choke her just to make her stop talking. There was nothing in this world that could make anyone that happy. Anyone who disagreed must be extremely naive.
"... It will be fine you guys, don't worry so much. Besides I didn't want to split up our team!" The runt said. Gajeel's eyes narrowed as the two bumbling idiots instantly jumped over each other promising to protect the little bluenette. Gihi. Lets see just how well you can protect the little blueberry. He thought. But before he could jump from the roof the wind shifted. She is Mine. The dragon roared as lavender, ink and parchment assaulted his nose. That little shrimp is my mate? He thought indignity. Have you lost your mind Ferric? She is a fairy and about the same size as one. She is our Mate. Was the dragons steely reply. The rage inside of Gajeel continued to rise. Not only was his dragon forcing him to track down his mate but it had chosen probably the weakest human alive. Not only was this an insult to the Iron Dragon Slayer but he would not tolerate his dragon making such poor decisions for him. There was no way this pathetic fairy could be the mate of the Iron Dragon Slayer. He would humiliate her in every way possible just to prove that she was nothing more than an insignificant speck. He would prove that his dragon was wrong and that Slayers did not need mates. He was a lone wolf and always would be. His heightened anger allowed him to lock his inner dragon away and silently leap from the roof his shoes barely making a sound as he landed on the road.
