Chapter Thirteen
we miss you iris

3rd Person POV

pin was gone and so was Marcus. iris was left to her own sources and that meant that she would do whatever it took to stay on track and keep her mind steady. today was maid of the island and even though she wanted to fight for it she didn't have it in her heart to fight for it but she did want to watch her sister do it and she did want to check up on Kansas back home.

she woke up and walked downstairs to see her mom with Rosie, frank, and zoe in the kitchen.

"what is going on?" iris asked and they all turned to her

"the maid of the island competition is today, aren't you going?" Maggie asked and iris shook her head

"no I have to call Flynn and the others, I also need to train to show James that I'm better than what he thinks I am" Iris spoke and zoe nodded

"be safe iris, we're trying to have a normal life here" Zoe said and Iris nodded

"I'll be fine," she said and she left the house as she walked to the stables and into the yard. she heard voices and she turned to the room as she looked at mia and Susie

"are you going to use pins money to pay off the judges?" Susie asked

"what? no" mia said and she stood up making iris hide on the other side of the wall.

"oh, right. you don't need to do that. your dads a judge" Susie said and Iris laughed under her breathe before she covered her mouth and continued to listen

"susie, this year, I'm gonna win on my own. for the yard. don't worry about pins money, I figured out what I'm gonna do with it. he'll be back at bright fields in no time" she said and iris scoffed as she walked away after she saw mia lock it. she went to bullets stall and she walked in as she closed the door and she walked over. she ran her hand over his mane as he leaned into it and she pet him. she grabbed his lead and brought him out into the yard as she put his staddle on and then she brought him into the arena as she saw james and she scoffed

"you know watching me isn't going to help you" she exclaimed and he shrugged

"need to learn your techniques " he told her and she nodded as she climbed onto bullet and she nodded. she brought him around and she began to ride him around the arena

"okay its just the jumps we can do this" she said to him and they got over one of the jumps and when they went to the other one, he clipped the top bar.

"you use too much voice" james said as she came up to him and she shrugged

"I'm doing what my horse needs me to do, if it works for him, it works for me" she retorted and james scoffed

"that's not how you win" he stated

"no, that's how you make sure your horse is comfortable and doesn't hate you." she exclaimed and she turned bullet back around as she did it over again and they did worse

"what? you think we did better without talking? what are we supposed to do?" she asked and james went to hand her the whip

"you use this" he told her and she scoffed

"no way I am using that on him , he isn't ready and I'm not going to let you force me into using that on him. torment me all you want but not my horse"  she said and she got off of bullet as she led him away from james and back into his stall. she pet him as he huffed and she nodded

"he cant do anything to you, I promise" she told him and he nodded as he did too and she removed his saddle from him and she pet his side on last time. she ran her hand over his mane and then she heard her phone rang. she pulled it out of her pocket and she took it out to see it was a facetime call from flynn and she answered

"Hey! what's up?" iris asked and Flynn smiled at the girl

"we missed you" Flynn said and iris' eyebrows shot up as she stared at them and she saw Kansas come onto the screen as did Reggie and luke

"wow, you three are hanging out together if this isn't a surprise," iris said and they laughed as she did too.

"We miss you iris, hows England?" Luke asked and iris looked around

"1: I miss you guys too and 2: it's amazing, I have a boyfriend now," she said and they smiled as they heard Kansas let out a huff until someone cleared their throat and iris turned to see zoe in the doorway

"Are you coming?" she asked and iris looked back at her phone and then at zoe again.

"yeah ill be on my way soon," she said and she turned back to look at Flynn and the boys.

"ill call you guys later" she spoke and they all nodded as she ended the call she walked to the trailer as got in with mia, zoe, and the others. they got to the maid of the island and iris stuck around as she stayed with the horses she turned to see gaby and holloway coming towards them

"iris" pin said and she scoffed and sighed

"hey pin" she said to him and he sighed as she did too and then gaby walked over.

"why arent you competing?" she asked and iris shrugged her answer

"I don't feel the need to" she told her and gaby laughed as she nodded and then she turned to gaby as they talked to each other and iris shook her head. iris let them talk before she looked at the horses and she pet them softly. she now watched her sister go against mia and gaby in the archery portion of it.

"iris" pin called and she sighed and shook her head

"what pin?" she asked and he looked down at his shoes

"are you okay?" he asked and she shrugged

"I don't know pin you chose our enemies over us and then my boyfriend went to the academy so I don't if I am," she said and pin sighed

"I'm sorry iris," he told her and she shook her head

"you don't mean that and I know it," she said and she walked away from him. she leaned against the tree as she watched the day go on. she didn't care about it and she didn't want to care about it. when mia lost against gaby in the jousting, zoe was going to go after mia and go against gaby, something happened in the middle of it and iris got up

"I'm not staying to see whatever that is happen" she said and she got up from the tree and she left the yard.  

Iris didn't stay to find out what was going to happen to them, she was tired of fighting and she didn't want to stay to see it happen.
