Hello everyone. I'm Mahira, an interviewer of Gemme Community and today I am here to take I Nephtys' interview.
Hi, Nephtys, are you ready for the interview?
Hello, Mahira, yes, I'm ready.
Please, introduce yourself.
My name is Nephthy, which I made as my pen name. I'm an amateur writer on Wattpad.
I saw that you like reading and writing at the same time. Can you tell me more about it?
Well, the past few years have been tough for me. Wattpad is a toxic place but I still feel a connection with it. I've been here since 2018-2019, I've read some good books but most of them were not epic. Yes, I like reading and writing at the same time, which I think is the best choice when you tend to be more like a pro. Reading someone else's work is way better for you to learn things.
Which genre are you interested in when it comes to reading?
My favourite genre is Mystery/thriller, but I'm interested in dark romance, psychology ones maybe sometimes mafia too.
Which book are you currently reading?
I'm not currently reading any books on Wattpad because I'm on hiatus, but I like Care by eroticmaria.
Which was the first book that you read and when?
Lol, my first book was some kind of fan-fic which I hated, sorry not sorry, when? I don't remember.
So far how many books have you read?
Maybe 3 books? Because when it comes to Wattpad books, I'm picky as hell, I've to say sorry but most of the Wattpad creators are following the same line, so it's kinda boring. I love to find a book which stands out with its plot and writing style.
Which is your favorite book and why?
I have to say that again, so far the best book is Care by eroticmarie, because I was so intrigued about what would happen in the next chapters.
What mostly makes you pick a book for reading?
Its cover, description and dialogues, most of the dialogues are boring.
What first thing do you see before picking up a book for reading?
Of course cover and name.
Have you ever regretted picking up any uninteresting book that you thought was very interesting?
So many times, if we are going to talk about Wattpad books, of course, the actual authors are way more unprofessional, it's not that easy to write a whole ass book and these 13-14 year old school teens think that it is. For example, smut scenes, even though I'm a 21 year old woman, it's hard for me to write smut scenes, and they really think that it's easy, because they're "educated".
I visited your carrd! There were some books, where have you published them?
I started publishing them on Wattpad, but I took them down.
What made you take down your book?
English is my second language, also I don't have time to add chapters regularly, that's why I took down my books
What do you mostly write?
Bloody erotic shit.
Who is your inspiration in the writing field?
My scorpio self.
How do you keep yourself motivated?
I don't, that's the problem and that's why I'm on a big hiatus. University life is killing me.
At what age are you writing?
I first started writing when I was maybe 13? 14? I'm 21 right now. My books are for 18+ people.
Tell me more about your books that you have finished writing.
I have not finished any of them yet, but there are 5 or 6 upcoming books on my list.
Any book that you are planning to publish anytime soon?
Maybe, yes.
Tell me more about your upcoming book.
I think my book is outstanding but not outstanding if it makes sense, it's going to be a military book, full of assault, war, kidnapping, rape, hate. So far, it's my second favorite book of mine.
Tell me more about characters that will be seen in that book without any spoilers?
A soldier, a rapist and a nurse.
Where can readers find your upcoming book?
Nowhere right now, I don't have plans to publish it soon.
How do you process and deal with negative book reviews?
One reviewer was very cruel to my book which I had published on Wattpad and it hurts you know? But I learned that I have to be better, it just takes a lot of time and patience.
What is the most difficult part of your writing process?
Plot holes, it's very familiar to us writers, you have to keep up with your plot like it's growing inside you, it's really important to feel every inch of your book and chapters, characters and plot.
How do you use social media as an author?
I'm using prowritingaid. I think this website is better than grammarly, because you don't need to access monthly payments. Also, I use Instagram, for posts and news about my books, of course Canva, for covers.
Which of the characters do you relate to the most and why?
I think Maria, because she was treated really badly even tho she was a total psychopath, I think, and I know that most of the people don't like me and they misunderstood me, that's why, it doesn't mean if you are a psychopath, if someone is going to hurt you first, you're going to hurt them too.
Who is she and which book is she from?
She is the main character from a book called "Maria". I worked on that book two or three years ago. That was my first, serious book. I'm in love with its unique plot and characters. But I have not finished it, I feel like I'm not ready yet to let it go
How much research did you need to do for your book?
Not much research, it depends on the subject, if I'm fully informed in that sphere.
How did you come up with the title for your book?
That's not very difficult for me, but there are some days when you don't have zero inspiration. I do research, what I want to be the title of my book and if it sounds perfect in another language.
Why do you think that wattpad is toxic? Any incidents that you wanna share?
Because it's a big platform, also people steal your work. Yes, there was one incident when I first start publishing on Wattpad. One person was my daily reader, and that motivated me even more. Sadly I heard she was mocking and laughing at my work, which hurt my feelings. That's why I think Wattpad is a toxic place.
Any suggestions you wanna give to the author?
Finish the goddamn book first offline, then edit it and then publish if you think it's worth it, don't ask other people to "grade" your book.
As you said you are in university, how do you manage to take out time for writing?
If I feel like I can write something, I'm doing it with no hesitation.
What are things you keep in mind before writing any book?
Don't rush yourself, I'm not a patient person and I think that's the biggest minus there.
Why do you love to write stories?
Because I can write about emotions so well that you would feel it.
Any tips you wanna give to your fellow authors?
Just take your time to write a book offline. I know everyone has that urge to publish their work and scroll down all the comments from fans, but yeah, just take your time to write better.
Is there anything you like other than reading and writing books?
I enjoy watching movies.
What are your hobbies?
My hobbies are analyzing people, playing tennis and workout.
Anything you wanna say to your readers?
Thank you for reading my books and see you in the future.
