FOURTEEN: Familiar

*On The Bus*
*(Y/N) POV*

“Iida, buddy, you need to breathe…” I walked past the class president and patted his back after he tried to instruct the class about the seating arrangement.

“I have been breathing, (Y/N)! In through the nose, out through the mouth!” He replied, but I didn't really stick around to continue the conversation. His attempt was pointless, anyway, as it was an open planned bus.

“Hey...wanna sit next to me?” Kaminari tugged on the sleeve of my training uniform, but I hesitated, seeing Bakugou motion to the empty space beside him.

Shit...fire type or electric type?!

“She's sitting with me.” I blinked in confusion as I was pulled into a seat along the side of the bus, and soon realised it was Tsuyu.

Water type it is!

“Uh...thanks, Tsuyu…” I said with a small smile.

“Call me Tsu! I noticed the tension and figured you needed saving.” Her wide, bulging eyes were intense, but very friendly. I hadn't spoken to her much, but I could tell she was a kind person. Midoriya sat on my other side, and I leant back, finally feeling a little calmer. Mina had lended me a pair of her sports shoes she had in the locker room, as I had been left without my right ballet flat, it was still jiggling around on Mineta’s head.

My brother started to address the class, but quickly faded out, as not a single person was paying attention. It was loud and stuffy, but it was something I had begun to enjoy. Being surrounded by people who didn't know my past made it feel like I could finally breathe.

I like this...I need this…

I zoned out for a while, completely ignoring Bakugou’s outburst and everyone else's chatter until Tsuyu initiated a conversation.

“So, where did you live before you moved in with Mr. Aizawa?” She asked curiously, her tongue lolling out between her lips. My eyes flickered around the bus. Most people were awaiting my answer. Bakugou was watching me with intense eyes, and Kaminari had a look of worry. I could see Aizawa’s face in the revision mirror, and he shook his head slowly.

“Uh...boarding school...yeah...in...Australia..?” I didn't have to look back to the mirror to know my brother was facepalming.

“Australia? Like, with the giant rabbits and stuff?!” Hagakure (I think) shouted out, excited.

“They're called Kangaroos, and they can jump up to-”

“Iida, nobody cares! (Y/N), what was it like?! Give us an Australian accent!” Sato insisted, leaning over from his place behind Shoji.

Shit...bad lie…

Absurdité! Mimicking an accent is simply insulting to other cultures!” Aoyama huffed, sticking his nose in the air.

Really..? Is it really, Frenchy?

Taking the opportunity, I stood up and slunk over to take the vacant seat beside Koda, who looked more than startled at my sudden appearance.

“Mind if I sit next to you?” I asked sweetly, and he gave me a meek smile in response.

Bless you!

-------------------------------------------------------

It seemed to take forever, but the hour passed by and eventually the bus came to a halt in front of a huge dome. We were ushered in by Aizawa to meet up with another pro hero, Thirteen. Everybody seemed to know who he...she...it was, but I didn't have the faintest clue, so I just nodded along.

“Welcome to the USJ!”

Universal Studios Japan?!” People exclaimed loudly.

“Here, we have created realistic natural disasters, all separated into zones to give you the opportunity to experience-”

Pssst, hey…” I glanced over my shoulder to glare down at Mineta, who immediately cowered under my steely (E/C) eyes. “..y..your shoe came off…” He held out my ballet flat and I softened, just a little.

“Just toss it on the ground by the door...I'll grab it later…” I muttered before turning back around. Suddenly, the lights began to flicker and dim, causing us all to jump a little.

“What the…” Yaoyorozu murmured before the fountain stopped, and a large, swirling vortex appeared in the center; making my blood run cold.

I know that quirk…

The face I saw appearing from the smog made my legs grow weak, and I stumbled back and clung to the first arm I could reach.

“What the hell…” It was Kaminari, and he couldn't take his eyes off the gaunt man, dismembered hands covering his face and body like some kind of sick, twisted costume.

No...please...no…

I met Aizawa’s eyes for a moment, and he mirrored my panic before turning around and waving his arm back.

“Thirteen, protect the students!” He ordered, standing his ground as we all backed away.

“Who are these people..?” Kirishima asked as both he and Midoriya began to take a step.

“Stay back!” My brother shouted urgently, freezing them in place. “This is real!”

This can't be happening...no…

Bakugou stepped closer, moving a little in front of me and holding his arm out like a protective barrier.

“Where is the symbol of peace? I was informed he'd be present...perhaps my sources were mistaken?” That rasping voice made me want to scream. I knew it all too well, and I was praying that I was only temporarily trapped in a nightmare. I couldn't hear what anyone was saying. I could only hear Shigaraki’s voice, and it was agonising white noise. Kaminari started tinkering with his headgear, and Bakugou glanced down at my quivering, paled form.

“Oi…” I looked up, his eyes widening a little when he saw my tears welling. “...I've got you…” He edged closer until his side was touching mine, but it did nothing.

This is the end...they'll know…

“...and I see you have our Creature! We'll be taking what’s ours..." Everyone seemed confused by his statement, but Aizawa absolutely snapped.

“Get them out of here…” He ordered Thirteen, his voice dark and menacing. Without another moment of hesitation, he leapt down into the sea of villains, which I hadn't even noticed.

SHOTA!” I screamed out after him, but both Bakugou and Kaminari held me back.

“He'll be okay! We...we just need to go, okay?!” Kaminari pleaded with me, but I turned stiff and still when my eyes fell upon one villain in particular. He was standing beside Shigaraki and the beastly avian monster, shackled and wearing a large, intimidating metal muzzle. His topaz eyes were darting around like flies in a jar, but they always paused on me. His hair, his skin, his everything. I knew him all too well, and it shook me to the core.

No…” I couldn't even tell if my voice was working as I was being dragged away by the two boys. Before we could get any further, that familiar wisp of black manifested in our path, transforming into the swirling, shadowed figure.

“I know it's impolite...but I'm afraid I cannot allow you to leave…” Eerie golden eyes landed on me and I clung to my shirt, trying to breathe.

Kurogiri...move...please…

He started speaking again, but I just couldn't hear a word of it. It was only when I realised Bakugou had rushed from my side and leapt alongside Kirishima that I could understand what was going on.

“HE'S UNTOUCHABLE! HE ONLY HAS ONE WEAK POINT! STOP!” I screamed out, but Kaminari pulled me back before I could catch up to them. I knew the explosions lighting up before my eyes were useless, and I just struggled against the blond’s grip, trying to break free. I spun to try to see my brother, who I could hear battling against wave upon wave of villains, and I knew everything was going to end with blood. I managed to escape, and just as I was about to turn and run to Aizawa’s aid, I was swept up in the thick darkness of Kurogiri’s quirk. Everybody was screaming, but I felt something reaching for me, and in my panic, I grasped hold of that one hand for dear life.

They’re all going to die...
