FORTY: What You're Made Of

“This is so wrong...on so many levels…” I murmured to Midoriya as I tried to tear my eyes away from the buff man in the neko girl cosplay costume. “You don't happen to have a fork, do you? I'd like to pluck my eyeballs out…”

“N..no...sorry…” The emerald haired boy replied, seemingly just as disturbed as I was. Due to the destructive nature of our quirks, Midoriya and I had been handed over to yet another member of The Wild Wild Pussycats; Tiger. He seemed nice enough, but his outfit was just too much.

“Right, my young cubs! Come at me with everything you have!” He boomed, folding his meaty arms in front of his chest. Midoriya moved to strike first. He yelled something about five percent, then ran towards our opponent. Activating his quirk, Tiger easily flexed and dodged the student's attack and sent him flying into a nearby tree.

Pilabody, huh?

Whilst he was distracted, I snaked a small section of my hair out from behind me, down across the ground towards the pro’s ankles. It twitched and fought for control, but I just clenched my jaw and kept focus, despite all the screaming surrounding me from everyone else's training.

Come on...obey me..!

With one quick movement, the cat was bagged. Tiger yelped once he realised he was now upside down, his ankles wrapped together, and dangling upside down. I averted my eyes once I caught a glimpse of his upskirt.

Oh boy...this is like the time I walked in on Mic and Sho...

“Well, that was a surprise!” He chuckled, giving me a broad grin. “Miss Aizawa, you certainly took me off guard! Kudos!” I just nodded as I set him back down, then went to help Midoriya to his feet.

“If you don't mind, Tiger...I’d prefer to do some training on my own...I need to focus on controlling full blown attacks, and I can't do that around...people…” I mumbled as I helped my friend brush the dust off his uniform.

“Yes, yes...Shota informed me that you'd probably decide to do that sooner or later! I see no harm, just don't stray too far! Go and put the plus in your ultra!” I cringed and nodded again, uttering a small thanks as I began to wander past the others.

So many people were screaming and in a lot of pain. Bakugou was the loudest, by far. His explosive eruptions were blasting into the sky every time he pulled his hands from the scalding tub of water. Kaminari was next, and boy, did he look like he was in agony.

Attached to a battery, he was trying to raise the amount of electricity his body could handle before short circuiting. Sero and Tokoyami were in third place for their shrieking volume, though I worried for the avian-headed student the most.

I could hear Dark Shadow going ballistic, and I shuddered as I forced myself not to get involved. Todoroki in his tub of water, Tsuyu climbing the cliff face, Iida sprinting around at full speed. I managed to avoid looking over at Kirishima, who was training with Ojiro, and silently slipped away from my class group, to a quiet area atop the closest cliff. It was firm and flat, and it would have to do.

“Okay...let's see…” I spoke to myself as I dragged several loose boulders into a line.

Target practice…

I took my place about ten feet in front of them and called upon my quirk. It stretched wider and wider until only slivers of sunlight could filter through the spaces between my hair.

Right...this is where it gets difficult…

I tried to strike my first target, but I missed by a long shot, my attack pulling out of my control and slashing a tree trunk in half.

“Fuck! Stupid thing!” I refrained from biting my lip, feeling my canines sharpen and grow within my mouth. I pinched my skin, still feeling the sharp stinging sensation.

Good...I can still feel pain…

Again, I tried for the same target, getting closer, but still missing. Cussing myself out in my head, I started to get pissed. Not with my quirk, but with my abilities. Over and over, I tried and failed, causing incredible damage to the nearby treeline.

AHHH! SCREW THIS!” I glared down at my hands to see my sharpened nails, which now looked more like claws. Again, I pinched myself, but it was now just a dull pressure.

Right...I gotta ease up…

Overhead, after I heard a faint, shrill shriek from the training grounds, a flock of birds flew.

Animal voice at it again…

“Kill them.”

Out of nowhere, one of my sentient tendrils shot up and out, right towards the avian formation. I could only stare in shock as I watched one of them get speared, right through the breast.

I backed away slowly as it retracted, bringing the dead, dripping animal along with it and letting it slip to the ground with a soft, sickening thud. Swallowing, I crouched down and stared at the poor thing. Blood gushed from the wide, open wound on its chest, and it still twitched as it's nervous system began to fade out.

“S..sorry, Koda...s..sorry little guy…” I said almost silently, scooping it up in my bare hands and tucking the corpse under a nearby shrub. I didn't know what else to do, and I was terrified.

“Good girl...you listened, for once...it just might be the right time to come and see what you're made of...”

The sound of a rolling stone made me leap up, spinning and stumbling backwards a few steps towards the cliff edge. My hair shot out, ready to destroy my father, but instead, I saw Kirishima. Immediately, I used every shred of power I had to call it back, and just in the nick of time. The red head uttered a forced laugh.

“I should really learn to not just appear out of nowhere when it comes to you, huh..?” I wasn't at all relieved to see that it was him. If anything, my guard went up ten fold.

“Leave me alone. Go back and spar with Ojiro.” I ordered aggressively, making sure my footing was good as he began to move closer. Not once did my hair falter, just stood poised and ready, by my own command.

“Mr. Vlad switched me out to give Tetsu a go...I thought I'd come and see if I could train with you, (Y/N)...you know...see what you're made of…”

See...what I'm...made of…

Kirishima’s words matched my father’s, and I couldn't stop myself from whimpering under my breath.

No. I want to be left alone...so go find somebody else to work with, o..okay?” I leveled out my voice, but I was unable to bring myself to relax. My hair fell back around my face, but I was prepared.

I hated feeling that way towards Kirishima, but he had given me every reason to. The odd behaviour, the stares, the words he uttered under his breath the night before. Everything felt wrong.

“Come on, (Y/N)...you've been avoiding me all day…” His mouth dropped into a frown and his brows knitted together. “Plus I still need to talk to you…”

“Look...I...I just wanna focus today, Red...Just leave…”

I don't like this one bit…

“...please…” Kirishima took a few steps closer, adjusting the torn collar of his training uniform.

“It's important…” This time, for every step he took forward, I took one backwards. It visibly upset him, but I was beginning to get scared. "Every single time I try to get you alone, we're interrupted...this needs to happen now! It isn't something I can say out in the open!"

Flinching, I let my concentration slip a little, and my Berserk hair rose to attention, flickering around me like a knot of snakes.
"Back off!" I hissed through my teeth, praying that someone would come running to my rescue. To his rescue. I was cornered, and I didn't want to risk hurting the spiky haired boy. No matter what his deal was, I didn't want to hurt him. "S..seriously...just t..turn around and g..go back to the training grounds..."

Kirishima, what is up with you?!

"(Y/N)..." Agitated, Kirishima began to quickly close the distance between us, not seeming to fear my unstable quirk. "...you're gonna listen to me...You don't understand, I-"

"Listen, for once, my dear..."

"I SAID BACK OFF!" It happened so quickly. We moved at the same time, and I was positive I was going to end up killing him. My eyes snapped shut as I made contact with his skull, but there was no crack. No splatter. No nauseating thud of a body hitting the earth. Just a firm, stony pressure around my wrist.

"Look at me!" Kirishima's breath was hot and ragged in my face, but I managed to do as he told me. His quirk was activated, and the sharp point of one of my tendrils was still pressed against his temple. "Disable it! Why are you fighting me?! I'm doing this for your own good! Will you listen?!"

My (E/C) eyes were wide, and my throat felt like sandpaper. His last words were exactly what my father had repeated, over and over, every single day that I had been trapped, tortured and used.
"L..let go..." I stammered, no more than a broken whisper. My wrist hurt, and his crimson stare was shrinking me down into a helpless child.

Please...someone...anyone...help...

"I see you have company...I'll see you soon..."

My father's ghostly voice faded out as new ones came crashing through my thoughts.

"Yeeeeeeeeee....Heeeeeeeeee..."

"Yo, get back here, you dopey little crap!" Both Kirishima and I spun our heads to look towards the treeline, where a dazed, bumbling Kaminari was floating about in a stupor. Sero came running out shortly after, panting as he stopped alongside the fried blond. I was ready to burst into tears.

Thank god...

"Dude turned his brain to gruel again and wandered off..." Sero straightened up before looking at us in both confusion and concern. "Uh, did you two get into a fight or something?" He asked hesitantly, taking in the sight of us at each others throats.

My hair instantly retracted, and Kirishima dropped my wrist, grinning as though nothing had transpired.
"Just having a sparring match! Our (Y/N) is freakin' manly! Almost had my head!" His happy-go/lucky expression faltered for a moment as he glanced to me, changing to something that looked a lot like exasperation. "Later. ." He whispered, before jogging over to Sero.

The ravonet glanced over to me as I slowly followed and leaned towards me.
"Are you bleeding?!" He asked in a panic, and I quickly looked to my hands, stained red with avian gore.
"N..no! No...not mine...I...Uh..."

"Mine! Yeah, I didn't harden in time when I got thrown back...cut my palm on the rocks!...See?!" Kirishima jumped in and held up his right hand, a deep, oozing slice making my gut turn.

I didn't do that...We didn't even fight...he...doesn't want anyone to be suspicious...

"Shit, dude...let's go find Pixie-Bob! Maybe we can score a break!" Sero said somewhat excitedly before dashing off through the trees. I stared at Kirishima for a few moments, every cell in my body ready for him to make a move. He was covered in dirt from his earlier training, and he looked livid.

What happened to you..? Why would you..? You're with...

"D..don't come near me, Kirishima..." I began, but a thumb flew out in front of my face, jabbing at the air messily.
"Heeeeeee! Yeeeeeee!" Kirishima bared his jagged teeth at Kaminari, but before he could open his mouth, I grabbed the blond by the back of his shoulders and began to guide him off after Sero.
"Don't..." I growled whilst clutching to the fabric of Kaminari's warm, scorched shirt.

Once we had a decent distance between us, I heard Kirishima speak. I didn't catch most of what he was muttering, but there were five words I heard clear as day, and they shook me to the core.

"...He's going to get you..."

I didn't look back. I couldn't. I couldn't believe someone like Kirishima would be a threat, but he was. As soon as he was long out of sight, I spun Kaminari around and hugged him tightly, my tears running down into the crook of his neck.

"Heeeeeee?" His slurs softened, and it felt like he was trying to hug me back.
"D..Denki...He can't be...He...He's..." I sniffed back my tears and held him tighter. "P..please protect me...I..I don't want anybody else to know...e..especially not K..Katsuki...N..Nobody will let me fight my own b..battle...b..but you will...right? P..please...stay by me..."

"Heeeeeeee!"
