TDG Task #5 - Frederick's Case
Prompt: Frederick moves into a new home. Every morning, he swears the tree in his backyard is in a different place than the night before. What is going on?
~~~~~~~
The blinding sun jolts Fred awake.
"Bah," he groans. Then his eyes are open again - the tree. The tree has moved!
"Bah!" he exclaims, hobbling over with all the might his stout legs could offer him. He pokes the tree - it does smell earthier than before. And wasn't it over by the barn? Was that even a barn?
Frederick stops short, tilting his head. What was a barn?
The rattling of seeds distracts him, and Frederick is bounding across the ground, crowing at the sky as food rains down around him. "Bah!" he thanks his startled caregiver, before stooping down and collecting his breakfast from the dirt.
What a nice caregiver.
Smells funny.
The funny-smelling caregiver is still staring at me.
Frederick looks up, and cocks a beady eye at the shell-shocked man beside him. "Bah," he reprimands.
The man backs away.
Satisfied, Frederick goes back to pecking at the seeds.
Maybe the sun fell. And got stuck in the sky. Because when Frederick wakes up again, the caregiver is leading him out. The sky was purple. Why was the sky purple?
Frederick lazily slumps the floor, and squawks as something hits his backside. He looks up, glaring. The caregiver's face is shadowed in the purple sky. Was that the tree in his hands?
The familiar rattle of seeds catches his attention. There's a plate of seeds - no, a trough!
Eagerly, Frederick bends over to scoop it up.
The tree comes whistling down on the back of his neck, and his world goes dark.
