INVISIBLE STRING
INVISIBLE STRING
there was an invisible string,
tying you to me
"I WAS TAUGHT A
LONG TIME AGO TO
NEVER GIVE UP."
"BECAUSE NINJA
NEVER QUIT."
𝕾𝖞𝖓𝖔𝖕𝖘𝖎𝖘:
LONG BEFORE TIME HAD A NAME, THE FIRST SPINJITZU MASTER CREATED NINJAGO. It was meant to be a realm of peace, balance and prosperity; a place that many would call home. But just like the First Spinjitzu Master, where there was light, there was also darkness.
A shadow cast itself across Ninjago, bringing a dark and evil presence to the one peaceful land. Where tranquillity once reigned, tyranny dominated, the balance that was created long ago was being threatened by someone so corrupted by evil that he was no longer a man, only a monster — Lord Garmadon. Whilst he was the yin, the shadow and chaos of the world, his brother was the yang, the light and order. They were two sides of the same coin, both favouring a different side in the never ending conflict between good and evil.
Iris Wu knew this feud very well. After all, with Sensei Wu as a father and Lord Garmadon as an Uncle, how could she not?
The fight for Ninjago ran in her blood, as did the power bestowed to her from Mother's mighty lineage. For generations, Iris' family (on her Mother's side) had been gifted with the ability to twist the fabric of space to their will. They were the Masters of Space and for years protected Ninjago from the many threats it had faced. Leslie Cho was a Master of Space and a fierce warrior, she honoured the ones who came before her by taking up their fight to protect their home no matter the cost. It was because of this that she met Wu: a man of both creation and destruction.
Leslie and Wu became more than just allies and friends; their love was the kind people dreamt of and envied. Even after all his years in Ninjago, he had never met anyone he loved as much as he loved Leslie Cho. And from their truest of love came a child — Iris Wu.
She was certainly her parents' daughter, having inherited the power of space from her Mother and her wisdom from her Father. Iris was the embodiment of them and their beliefs — a true champion of Ninjago. This meant that from the moment she was brought into the world, her story had already been written, her fate sealed.
Ninjago had decided that Iris Wu was going to be its next protector and there was nothing she could do about it.
After her Mother died, her entire world flipped on its head. Day became Night. Evil became Good. Friend became Foe. In the end it was her Father who pulled her back to reality and snapped her out of her grief-induced trance. Because despite the fact that his heart was also broken and the glistening in his eyes was now the result of tears, he put all that aside to make sure Iris was okay.
Over the years, Wu dedicated himself to training his daughter to be the best of the best, the ultimate warrior and guardian of Ninjago. Iris may have understood why her Father was so adamant about priming her for the future, but that did not mean a decades worth of incessant drills and exercises did not take their toll. It got to the point where even she had had enough.
Leaving the monastery, her home, seemed like the best idea at the time and Iris Wu would later learn that it was certainly not a bad one. It allowed her to become someone new, someone without legendary powers and years of training. It allowed her to be someone unburdened from the weight and responsibility the name of her family brought her, someone free to do as they pleased. And it allowed her to travel all over Ninjago, to explore the land her family raised her to protect. That was how she spent her two years away from her Father and their home, and she would never regret leaving to take the break she so desperately needed.
But when Iris heard about her Father taking in four elemental ninja, she knew it was a sign. A sign to return home after all the time away from everything. Because there was no outrunning destiny, no matter how hard you try.
It was as if an invisible string was reeling her back in to the crazy world she had left behind. She may not have been able to see it, but she could feel the string's presence, dragging her every which way. And when she accidentally met a peculiar ninja clad in white, she could feel it too.
You can't escape fate, and Iris Wu shouldn't have tried. Because its invisible string will always be there to pull you back, to tie you together so you can no longer run away. Destiny is a fickle thing — it is never a straight path — but it is one Iris Wu must walk. For her destiny was an important one, and what she could not yet understand, was why the ice ninja was in it.

DISCLAIMER —
I don't own Lego Ninjago, the characters, the plot or even Lego. I only own Iris, my OC, and her story in this crazy series.
AUTHOR'S NOTE —
Welcome to the first book of 'Balance of the Elements' a collaborative series between me and Katie. Her book and character will come a little later in the series so I have to write to that point beforehand (hopefully it'll be quick so we can read the amazing book Katie's been working on). I love LEGO Ninjago and have done since I was about 10 — maybe younger — so I'm really excited to write this. Zane has always been my favourite and we have to admit, this adorable Nindroid deserves some more love. I would also like to give credit to dorkiest_nerd for helping me with the filter on the gif banner, thank you lovely.
Thank you for clicking on this book!!! I really hope you enjoy reading 'Invisible String'.
Sincerely, Rosie aka Winter326
