Chapter 20 - Training (Part 1)
Updates will be slowing down a little on Patreon (Only) so if your thinking about joining and see that I'm not as active it's because I'm moving this month and will be settling down in a new house within the next three weeks or so.
It took almost two more hours till Redline arrived again; I'd been busy using (Dash) in-between pulses of the old man's radar to grab something, and bring it somewhere else. Freezing with whatever it was in my paws, or stopping from where I was dragging something for a moment when a pulse came through, before continuing on as if nothing was wrong...
...By the time Red appeared, I'd just finished displaced every vase and torch in the house. Putting them in places where they weren't likely to break, or light the house on fire. Though if they did it probably wouldn't last long since there were those blue-crystal tube things that shot water like a hose almost everywhere on the property: I would've thought that they were intentionally leaving the broken ones outside in a small pyramid, but even those ones worked!
I totally didn't accidentally turn the middle one on the bottom row on and blast myself with water, causing the entire pyramid to fall over in a giant heap of metal tubes...with one of them still on.
Nope. Not me.
Redline looked dead, or almost dead, with how slow she was walking up the path leading to the house. I watched her from the top floor, taking a moment from my constant (Dash)ing around the house to look out the window randomly every ten minutes or so. I was half tempted to go over and put something at ankle height just to serve as a welcome home, but it seemed that Pops already knew she was home as his pulsing had stopped and he suddenly appeared on the steps up to the red-tinted, raised cement platform that lead to the front door.
I looked at my level in (Dash), and seeing that it was at level 39, I decided that it was good enough to stop there until I wanted to do this again. I'd been able to displace pretty much everything in the house--except for the beds...those were bolted to the floor for some reason. There was no way everything could be put back within a short amount of time after this. None...

Oh stop trying to ruin my fun Voice, and thanks for that one. I actually like it...

You...
"I'm guessing Freija got to you, and that's why you haven't been home for the past...eight hours?" My attention was stolen as Pops started speaking and I looked out of the window again to see that Red had finally reached the front porch. He was looking at her with both arms crossed over his chest, as uncomfortable as that seemed for him it sure complimented his already intimidating stature...
Red's ears drooped and she looked away ashamed, "I don't want to talk about it. I'm sorry for not sending word that I was going to be gone that long, and she told me to let you know she has plans involving me for this next week." I opened the window as quickly, and as quietly as I could, to slip out onto the roof and make my way down to them, but I clearly didn't do a good enough job because not only did Redline's ears twitch but Pops' mouth curved up into a slight smirk.
I cringed internally as I closed the window again and carefully made my way to the edge of the roof looking to where I could jump and make the least amount of noise: concrete or bushes, hmm. I looked at what looked to be a medium-small tree a little ways away and decided that trying to jump to that was probably a lot easier than trying to land silently on the ground, hard or not.
I turned away from the two but kept my ears partially trained on them to hear what was going on, but for some reason everything was silent: It was probably just him thinking about what to do...I payed little attention towards that and lined myself up with the tree a few meters away, just at the edge of the path and with what looked like a tail's-length away from the concrete. I set my fore-paws on the edge, dug in the claws of my rear ones, and jumped.
The tile under my paws slid back much easier than anticipated and I yelped as my rear legs slipped out from under me. Sending me sprawling through the air with a half assed use of (Dash) to try and stabilize myself enough to at least reach the grass...and I did. With. A. Paw.
The rest of me crashed to the hard concrete of the path surrounding the house, through a side section of the yard and I couldn't help the small 'oomph' that escaped my lungs as they were forcibly emptied of all air when I was flattened to the ground, dazed and out of breath.
"Nyahahaha!" Why was there a hyena laughing behind me? "I completely forgot about you doing that, Nyahahaha." I looked over to see Redline bent over one hand on her stomach and the other on her knees, laughing her tail off at my predicament.
It seemed that The Demon purposefully did something that allowed Red to see my embarrassing situation as he was smirking down at me! Eyes full of some predatory retaliation I didn't deserve...I bet you didn't even know I'd moved everything around in the house!
At least my predicament was able to improve her mood a bit though, and once I peeled myself away from the pavement I followed to two back to the front as Pops opened the door. Stopping immediately upon entering, with Red following at his heel and looking around in awe. They stood like that for a moment before she burst out laughing again, actually falling to the ground this time and rolling around, unable to speak.
Pops turned toward me with an eye-brow raised, clearly impressed, "Well done Sc'the, I was assuming you were just training your (Dash) skill because you couldn't leave the house, but this..." He waved an arm around at the obvious chaos, "This is not what I was expecting. And now you get to help Redline return it all to its original place as a reward."
I was flabbergasted. That was a reward? Why was that a reward when it was clearly a punishment! I continued to gape at him shocked as he walked away and wasn't offered an explanation as to why until Redline was done with her fit.
"Hehe. You got off lucky Sc'the." She sat up and looked to where I guess she assumed I was, which was not that wall. I moved to the area she was looking and let my head appear, as to not embarrass her further. "The first time I did this wasn't nearly as awesome as this is, but he tripled my daily routine and made me duel him before having to fix everything afterwards."
She got up and looked around shaking her head amazed, "I'm totally getting this framed in a Memory Crystal and mounting it on the Guild's Achievement's Board." I looked at her again in shock, I decided to try and remain visible for as long as she was around me, so that there wouldn't be any accidental mishaps--her falling on me and dying I mean.
"Alright. Lets get moving if we want to be done by midday's meal..." She then got to fixing everything in the area I was in: room by room, area by area, and upon getting to the second floor she just looked at the first room in pure astonishment; It was the room I'd put all of the house's vases and some of the candles. The room across from it held the torches and strange crystalline contraptions that nearly blinded me once activated...
"Wow. I really underestimated how much had been moved..."She looked down at me, her tail flicking over and brushing me in the side slightly, "You did this to every room?" I nodded and she did a strange purr-humming sound like satisfaction or curiosity. "How long did it take?"
I let one paw become visible and spread three toes, pointed in her direction, "Three hours?! It took you three hours to do everything that I've seen so far and more?" I nodded and she scoffed in disbelief, "I gotta get you over to Wreign's house to do this to him. Now that would be absolutely hilarious, and I want to join you next time..."
I tilted my head, confused, "Who was Wreign? And why did she want to join me to do this to his place?" She must've gotten my confusion because she laughed and started touching the vases. They disappeared into what I assumed was her Storage Ring as she spoke, "He's a friend of mine...more like a brother to me actually. Him and Freija have these adorable nicknames for each other, and though they seem to absolutely despise one another, I can tell they think of the other as family too...maybe even closer than that in their case...I don't know."
She lead me out of the room and to the other, "I hope Pops'll allow you to meet them, and soon, it sucks to be practically trapped here for days on end..." She adapted a look of sadness and guilt, and what I assumed to be a memory popping into her head, one the turned to guilt and pity when her attention turned towards me again.
Hey! I don't need that from you! Just make sure that Demon doesn't kill me, or something...and give me my Noodles back, then I might forgive you...
"I'm going to go around and put these back. How about you get everything in this room and put them back where they go too...most of them are in the gym floor anyways so it should be one of the easier tasks compared to doing these." She disappeared as a red-streaked, black blur a moment later, and I looked at the room that I'd put all of the torches, then back to where she'd disappeared down the stairs, and sighed heavily before continuing.
Another hour later and the both of us had the house looking like it was before, though a few things might have been missing or out of place--totally not because I broke a few torches and vases when moving things around--and when it was done I was over it being a punishment and instead proud of the accomplishment. Even if I had to undo all that hard work, it was worth it immediately afterwards...
Having a hundred minutes pass by so quickly, only to realize that that was an hour in it's entirety was still strange though. By the time I had the last weight in it's place at the gym floor, the last floor we had to do, I could smell Pops having prepared and cooked the food for tonight. Being able to smell that while still having to put the last of everything away was an entirely different kind of torture for me....
...I couldn't even pull out some meat from my inventory either because it would just disintegrate in my claws! Leaving a note with an animated bird made of ash shaking it's little head at me!
At least this was getting my (Hunger Resistance) some levels...intentionally or not, it was not an enjoyable task in the slightest.
"Alright. That's the last thing here. Now we can--" I didn't wait for her to finish and immediately hightailed it to the kitchen. Where I crashed into a stool at the center island and impatiently waiting for the go ahead, staring at the three nearly head-sized, cooked creatures before me.
Took me a little while to write this chapter...didn't end up taking that nap like I wanted, but some things are a little more important than sleep sometimes: like fixing the only car I have for travel...
...Life sucks sometimes
Anyways I hope you enjoyed and I plan to be able to put out two chapters a day on Patreon (at least), and going at a pace that I am comfortable with, no matter how long it takes me to reach a main plot line or realize one...It's something I need to work on with every story I have.
