Chapter 26
No one's P.O.V.
Taehyung was speechless. He was unable to grasp the situation on his own and Jungkook wasn't saying anything, either. He was just laughing like a mad man.
Taehyung had come here out of guilt to apologize to Jungkook for the horrendous prank they had played on him. He even borrowed the keys from Jimin because he knew Jungkook wouldn't want to see any of them and that's exactly what happened. Jungkook didn't open up for them. Taehyung had to unlock the door from the outside. He had also expected to be yelled at or even be hurt physically. Whatever it maybe, he came mentally prepared for any sort of punishment he would get because he rightfully deserved it. He just couldn't get that look, from a while ago, out of his mind. That look of abandonment.
Jungkook looked past them as if they weren't even present there. Taehyung's heart had been hurting ever since. Not just because he had hurt someone but also because he wanted to be close to Jungkook. He hadn't said that out loud yet but Jungkook attracted him in ways he had never experienced before and he just had to make Jungkook his. But the grave mistake he had done before he could even try to court the younger was not what he had planned. And that's why he came rushing after him to beg for forgiveness.
What he didn't expect though was the sight of Jungkook, rolling on the floor and laughing hysterically. A very small part of him held on to the thread of hope that Jungkook had, by now, understood that it was a joke and he found it very hilarious. But a huge part of him was telling him to let go of that thread because it was just impossible.
What he feared now, more than anything else, was the idea that maybe Jungkook didn't take it too well and it mes- No!
He shook his head, not letting the thought to complete. He couldn't even think about such a horrible reaction. Not for Jungkook. As he eyed the laughing boy in front of him with guilt, Taehyung prayed silently with all his heart, to anyone up there listening to him, that his horrible prediction would turn out to be a wrong one. He wouldn't be able to live with himself if it was true.
When Jungkook was somewhat relaxed, he straightened himself, still giggling a little as he stood back up, embarrassment gracing his features in soft red color. He knew that Taehyung was equally crazy so he wouldn't be judging him, but that didn't justify his own sudden maniac laughter.
Jungkook looked down at his feet as he cleared his throat, to get the other out of his own daze.
"Um, sorry about that hyung. It's just.." He couldn't complete his sentence. What was he supposed to say to Taehyung? That his imagination ran like that of a five year old? He would rather dig a hole and burry himself than say that.
Taehyung took the silence as his cue to speak.
"Jungkook, are you.. Okay?" He tried to sound sweet yet caring without edging the younger, if that was possible.
Jungkook looked up at his face with confusion.
"Eh? Yes! I mean, yes. I'm sorry, again hyung. It was just too hilarious." He chuckled again as he said remembering his silliness once again without realizing how senseless he sounded to Taehyung.
Taehyung, however, didn't stop himself from taking his steps carefully. He paused to understand what Jungkook had said. Once again, he thought that Jungkook wasn't mad at him but he rejected the thought again as it was too harsh of an incident for him to not be, and too unfair of him to think that way.
"Wh_what are you talking about, exactly?" Taehyung looked interested and contrary to what Jungkook was worried about, he wasn't judging him at all. Jungkook was positive now, that Taehyung was not thinking lowly of him. So, he let out a relaxed sigh before gesturing the older to come inside his room.
Taehyung nodded and walked behind Jungkook as the latter turned on the lights and moved in to remove all his books and stuff from the bed, he had put on the display, earlier. Jungkook didn't see Taehyung signalling to someone as he had his back turned to him at the moment.
Jungkook finally turned around to see Taehyung still standing at the door and fidgeting.
"Come on in, hyung." His smile was gentle and casual as he pulled Taehyung inside and sat him on the bed after shutting the door.
Taehyung glanced at him and sighed thankfully when he saw that Jungkook hadn't seen anyone else, yet.
Once settled, Jungkook cleared his throat once again and looked around to distract his eyes while he would pour his little fantasy out in front of Taehyung. Meanwhile, Taehyung was just sitting there waiting for him to speak up and get him out of his misery.
------
By the time Jungkook ended, Taehyung was laughing along with him, uncontrollably. He understood now why he had to witness the sight of hysterical Jungkook before. They both paused to take a breath and let go of their tummies as they sat up straight. When their eyes met, they went in for another round of laughing. Neither could stop.
All of a sudden, Jungkook's face took on a serious look as he jumped and put his hand on Taehyung's mouth to silence him. Taehyung blushed at the contact and closeness but Jungkook wasn't looking at him to notice. Instead he was intensely gazing at his door. Taehyung diverted his eyes to the door too and realized why Jungkook became so quiet, abruptly.
Muffled giggles could be heard from outside the door and they were too close, as if someone was sitting right outside his room, ears attached to his door.
Jungkook quietly got up, tiptoed towards the door and pulled it open in one sudden jerk not allowing the culprits any time to scram.
"OH F.. FRUIT CAKES AND STRAWBERRIES!"
"AAAAAAAAAHH!"
Jimin and Hoseok exclaimed at the same time as they jumped back holding their hearts tightly.
Taehyung came up and stood right next to Jungkook who was now, holding the door and was frozen.
"Fruit cakes and strawberries, Jimin? Really? Could you be more obvious?" Taehyung quirked an eyebrow at him.
Jimin pouted at him and was about to say something when his eyes met Jungkook's. The same boy who was unable to stop himself from cracking up just a few second ago, was now lifelessly standing there.
"Uh, Jungkookie." Jimin stood up brushing his back and bottom as he started to speak.
"I'm sorry for those two texts.." He was cut off by the door slamming in his face.
Jungkook turned around and looked at Taehyung. His eyes were filled with so much terror that Taehyung was about to hang himself for what he had done.
"Please!" Jungkook's voice broke and he looked like he was about to collapse but still, he tried to speak again.
"Please hyung, tell me that he wasn't going to apologize for pranking me! Please!" Jungkook couldn't believe how weak he was sounding even though he was trying his best to put on a poker face. Taehyung's eyes flashed with guilt and Jungkook looked away. He didn't trust his eyes today. They were seeing things that weren't true.
"I'm sorry, Kookie. We didn't mean to hurt you." Taehyung's small voice snapped something inside Jungkook.
The door was pushed open by then and it revealed a very sorry looking Jimin and Hoseok. Jungkook turned around and he immediately noticed that Jimin's eyes were puffy! Why didn't he see that before? That didn't matter right now. What did, though, was that he had them. Which meant that he was crying! Which also meant that it wasn't a joke? But he was laughing too. So may be those were tears of joy that made them puffed up? No, that's not possible. He had to have cried a lot to make them that red. Which only meant that he really did go through something, right?
Everything was so confusing all of a sudden. It was too much to keep up with. He blurted out the first thing that came to his mind without thinking about his words.
"Were you crying because of Yoongi hyung, Jimin?" The question baffled the shorter boy for a second. But he understood in a moment what was asked from him. He looked down as he shook his head and mumbled. Tears came back again.
"I'm sorry Kookie! I shouldn't have agreed! I'm so sorry!" Jimin came close and was about to hug him but Jungkook silently took a step back.
He was unable to comprehend the situation, reasonably, anymore. His mind was blank, now. There was nothing in it. He had had too much for the day and the only thing he could do now was sleep. Yes, that was always the best way to clear his thoughts, which had been running pretty wild today.
"I need to sleep." His small voice was devoid of emotions, as he said flatly and made his way to his bed.
The three boys watching the change taking place in him only drowned further in guilt as they had no words to justify themselves. Seeing Jungkook quietly lie down and turn to his side, they mumbled small apologies before moving out of his room and closing the door behind them, carefully.
"What did you do to him?" The low, cold voice sent chills down their spines, as all three of them slowly turned around to see Mrs. Jeon standing only a few feet away from them, rage blazing in her eyes and her fists trembling with so much anger that she looked like she was about to explode. Blood drained from their bodies and their throats dried up.
"Tell. Me. Right. Now!"
