Twenty Two
"GOAL!"
Jeongguk drops to the floor, breathing heavily to catch his breath as his teammates runs towards him, piling on his body with whistles and howls to his achievement.
Who would've known that Jeongguk is actually pretty good at this.
He was a rattling mess to start with, and it wasn't helping that Woosung was in the opposing team since Jeongguk just knew he was going to try to get in his way. But one things Jeongguk didn't know about himself until now is that he's fast as fuck.
Or they're too slow.
One or the other.
Definitely wouldn't be the fact that they're slow because they're already athletes, who basically run for living.
So in his team; Lucas, Ten, Taemin and Hoseok were against Minho, Woosung, Johnny and well...... Felix did play at first but he found it much more fun to be a cheerleader to the side instead.
Eventually Taehyung did end up showing up, with a pair of a bit too tight of spandex pants and a hoodie, blonde hair pushed back by a bandana. And of course he joined Minho's team since they're missing a player.
It's no surprise that he was really good at this, especially since Minho is his boyfriend so they do probably train a lot together. He practically flies between the cones, that were used to be goals since they're a small group to use the big field, and Taehyung still carries that happiness and giddiness while playing.
Even if the other team scores, he would still holler and cheer as though it was his team.
And no one dared tell him anything unless they wanted to be met with Minho's dirty look.
So far Jeongguk's team is winning, 5-4, and they've been playing for an hour yet it doesn't feel like they have been playing for a lot of time.
For once Jeongguk actually feels like he's having fun. Everyone here is so nice and patient with him, very funny really especially Minho.
Being here in person, Jeongguk can actually see Taehyung and Minho's chemistry clear. They're not always on each other like glue, and they have these moments where they would just look at each other and laugh. Almost like an inner joke running through their minds of some type of telekinesis.
Both of them together breathes life into everyone of a vibrant energy, and it feels almost so natural for them to hang out like this.
Well except for Woosung.
The guy has been more so on his own side, like always. Clearly he takes the game a bit more seriously but it just shows his competitive side. Him, Minho and Taehyung has been the ones dominating their team while scoring goals, but the chemistry in how they play seems like they played for years.
Meanwhile Jeongguk, Taemin and Lucas were taking control of their team.
Despite how one doesn't speak, another speaks in a different language and the other is more so trying to balance it out. Yet they all use one language when they play, and that's playing the game.
"A la mierda- Lucas!" Taemin huffs when the male calls for a timeout right when he was about to score, making Ten and Johnny collapse to the turf with this tranquility to finally relax.
Meanwhile everyone looks off to where Lucas is running off to and that's when they see two other boys entering the field, to which one of them also is running towards Lucas and practically jumps into his arms.
Ah the boyfriend.
"I swear they're so cute!" Taehyung giggles adoringly, cupping his cheeks to his crimson cheek that urged Minho to lean and kiss his head with his own adoring smile to his boyfriend.
Great, nothing like being surrounded by couples.
Jin is on Lucas's back as they make their way back to them, with someone trailing behind them.
Taemin's lips drops to nearly a scowl when he realizes it's Jimin, but instantly wipes it away when something about how Jimin's expression seems almost emotionless.
Not even mad, just...... Expressionless.
It's clear that he would rather be anywhere else but here, so he strays back from everyone else and just takes out his cigarette and lights it up, goes off into his own world to the bleachers without another word.
The ambient became more chaotic with Lucas and Jin together, especially when it was mixed with Minho and Taehyung's energy. It was like putting two electric fires together, filling it with this explosion of happiness and laughs that was contagious to everyone around them.
While they had fun together, Jeongguk found himself slowly making his way to Jimin. He's sitting in the bleachers alone, and something about seeing him alone just didn't sit so well.
It wouldn't be wise of Jeongguk to disregard his brother's warning, but something about Jimin like this seems relatable to when Jeongguk has his own bad days.
But Jimin won't be alone, unlike Jeongguk.
So with his google audio ready, he slowly goes and sits beside him, typing and pressing on the audio.
"You okay?"
Jimin didn't realize Jeongguk was there at first, so he jumps in startle to the sudden robotic voice of the phone, nearly dropping his cigarette in the process. Yet he finds himself relaxing when he sees Jeongguk, offering a small smile and nodding.
"Yeah, just not the sporty type."
Well that's understandable.
Slowly Jeongguk nods and looks off to his friends on the field, typing something else on the phone.
"Do you want to be alone?"
Jimin twitches a frown, taking an inhale of his cigarette with a foggy stare in his eyes to the stars. It's almost like there's a battle he's going through behind his gaze that he's losing, and even if he wants to be alone, he can't find himself to be alone.
He hates feeling lonely.
Yet before he could answer, Johnny is already calling Jeongguk to come back to the field so they can resume their game.
For a moment Jeongguk hesitated, since he really feels bad about leaving Jimin on his own here. But Jin suddenly comes up the bleachers, smiling while patting Jeongguk's arm.
"Go ahead, leave me with the moody baby."
Jimin evidently scowls while Jeongguk relaxed with a grin and gets up, sending Jimin a thumb up before running off to the field as the game began.
They played and played with laughters and screaming of friendly complaints to fouls or shoved, up until it was already late and Jeongguk wanted to join them to eat before his curfew. So they packed up their stuff while Jimin and Jin made their way to them.
Jimin hasn't looked at Taemin's way since he got here. Of course at the field when he was playing he would but now Jimin was avoiding his eyes as he stands like glue beside Jin while he spoke to Lucas on how well he did.
The last thing Jimin wants right now is an uncomfortable encounter with Taemin again, where his mind will get fucked up all over again.
So the more distance the better.
Meanwhile away from the group Jeongguk is shoving his hoodie on, feeling a bit chilly as he makes sure he has everything-
"Bambi."
At first Jeongguk was confused to who the fuck is named Bambi here, but suddenly someone stands in front of him with a hoodie on and a phone outstretched.
Jeongguk's phone.
He knew he was missing something.
"Be careful where you leave stuff like this," Woosung mutters to Jimin, making Jeongguk look from the phone and right up to him, meeting his gaze.
There's not a moment that passes that Jeongguk is be able to look at Woosung and just not remember the stupid closet. He has tried to forget about it, even prayed every night to erase it from his memory, but whenever Woosung is in front of him then it becomes hard to think of anything else but that.
Even now it feels as though Jeongguk actually glitched inside because apart from not speaking, he can't even move his hand to grab the phone. His anxiety began to start rising up, shriveling a more sense of panic with his throat squeezing much more tighter in his throat.
Woosung wasn't oblivious to this, clearly, so he grabs Jeongguk's hand and puts his phone on his palm, eyes narrowed now as he steps closer.
"What happened that night," Woosung says quietly so only the two of them could hear, spiking Jeongguk's heart rate even more than it already is, "Didn't happen, so stop worrying so much.
And he lets him go, walking away while taking his own phone out, without turning to look back to him.
Not seeing the way Jeongguk's hand with the phone is shaking but he only grips his phone tighter, shoving it in his pocket just as Ten suddenly pops beside him with his contagious smile.
"My baby," Ten squeals as he wraps an arm over his shoulders, guiding the two behind the group of people as they make their way out of the field, "You seemed happy today!"
It has became a habit for Ten to always call Jeongguk 'baby' to the point that he isn't entirely bothered by it anymore. At first he would not take it so well since he thought Ten was just trying to hit on him, but then it slowly became just a habit between the two.
Nothing too serious.
"I did," Jeongguk signs with his hands, smiling back at him, "And now we eat!"
The night tonight feels cool, not as cold as how the field was. Despite a few of the friend being able to drive, they decided to walk inside since the restaurant they had in mind isn't too far of a walk and it's nice outside for a walk.
Taehyung and Jin lead the way, marching with their own vibrant energy practically feeding off to each other, while their boyfriends trail behind them with scowls; complaining the whole time that they aren't getting attention.
Woosung is just stuck listening to music but began to flutter into a conversation with Ten at some point, who was a blushing mess because of his presence alone. Hoseok, Johnny and Jeongguk only began to drown into a conversation about their incoming assignments that they completed together behind them, meanwhile Jimin and Taemin trailed back.
Jimin is a little ahead of Taemin, hands stuffed in the pocket of his hood with eyes just looking around with lips sealed. Taemin is listening to music, playing a game on his phone since he can't exactly communicate with anyone there properly if it's not with Jimin.
And the two already said their standing within their....... Presence around each other.
The more distant the better.
Yet somehow within this journey, they ended up walking side by side, either Jimin walking slower and Taemin walking faster, but still didn't utter a word to each other.
Sometimes words weren't needed because even if they didn't talk, Jimin felt more relaxed.
He didn't feel alone.
And Taemin wanted to keep him relaxed because it feels weird seeing him like this, when he's usually so smug.
And with his girlfriend.
So they quietly stayed side by side with the same speed, all the way until they arrived to their destination. To a diner actually and the workers there ended up putting two long tables together since they were a large group, clearly. Comfortably everyone sat down and almost instantly dived into the menus while barking out what should they get or what sounds good here.
Yeah, twelve people is a bit too much and thankfully there's only a couple sitting in a booth here so they wouldn't have to annoy a lot of people specifically.
And their waiter just so happens to be someone very familiar.
"Hello, my name is Yuta, how can I- Oh shit! My boys!"
The man with the platinum long blonde hair beams the second he saw Woosung, Lucas and Minho, giving each of them a hand before turning to the rest with wide smiles and an awkward wave.
The four almost instantly dived into a quick conversation together, discussing mostly about how they didn't know Yuta worked here and stuff but was snapped by Jin to wrap it up because he's hungry. So everyone ended up ordering something to eat, Ten being Jeongguk's spokes person actually, while Jimin didn't get anything besides a milkshake.
Taemin for once looked at him since they got here, who was sitting across the from him, but Jimin only avoided the gaze as he gets lost in his phone while typing away and avoiding the world.
More so blocking it and hoping no one even looks his way.
The environment felt light but a good type of light. Everyone was given a chance to speak up and everyone would respectively listen. Jeongguk actually thought this was going to be awkward for him since he can't speak, but it seemed as though everyone didn't mind that and would listen to Ten whenever he would translate the signs Jeongguk would form.
On contraire, they wanting him to communicate out more.
It felt nice feeling appreciated like this.
Slowly everyone began to flutter into their own conversations and Taehyung took that opportunity now that he was sitting beside Jeongguk to continue on with their lesson, and thankfully it was so much more easier because since Hoseok was across and Ten beside them, it made it smoothly to translate to Taehyung.
And he's a quick learner for sure, which isn't a surprise since he's a musician, and he has to practice a lot of his muscle memory.
From a few seats down of Hoseok, no one noticed the way Woosung was having a hard time where he was sitting. His hands kept rubbing his ears discretely to the noises, face scrunching up to the subtle pain he felt but he brushes it aside as he tells himself he just has to get through this dinner.
Then he'll be home and it'll be over.
So he has to remain quiet and focus on something, if not then it'll definitely get worse this that he's feeling.
In order to distract his mind, his eyes suddenly finds Jeongguk, watching the way he teaches Taehyung the signs for how are you or my name is. Seeing the slow and gentle movements of his veiny hands, signing the phrases out felt like he was lullabying Woosung into an easing trance.
Being like this, with what he struggles with in a daily basis, always made him feel insecure about himself, for a long time actually, but seeing Jeongguk so comfortably signing the words and accepting the fact that he won't speak felt like a relief that he's not afraid to be himself.
Unlike Woosung who hides under his cold and cocky attitude.
But that's something he's not about to dive into anytime soon.
The food finally arrived and it didn't take long for everyone to suddenly dig into it. Minho and Taehyung have a habit of sharing half of their food to each other, tasting what they got happily while putting small remakes that would make them smile here and there.
Everyone seems to be enjoying the meal, while Jimin sips his milkshake, eyes still on his phone.
Taemin couldn't eat, not while someone across from him is not eating.
Maybe it's a habit for Taemin to be at a dinner table and for everyone to be eating, but whatever it was he just didn't like seeing Jimin not eating.
So with that in mind he grabs one of the plates that Yuta put on the table, shoves nearly half of his rice to the plate and awkwardly looks at Jimin.
Well, here goes nothing.
And he slowly and hesitantly slides it to him with his fingers. No one noticed this since they were far too busy enjoying their meal or talking over each other.
No one except for Jimin.
His eyes snaps to the plate of fried rice sliding in front of him, slowly trailing it up to look directly at Taemin.
The gaze held between them is intense, almost as though they're communicating with silent words and the confusion is clear behind Jimin's stare. Don't get Taemin wrong, of course he doesn't like the whole gang thing Jimin is part of, but as he said before; Jimin is weak and obvious to anyone who is a real gangster.
And predictable.
Clearly he's going through something now and Taemin isn't entirely an asshole to take care of someone when they're like this. He knows when to be nice when it suits him.
Like when he's around his friends.
Like now.
Jimin blinks at Taemin's gaze but Taemin broke it, moving to his food and taking small spoonfuls to his mouth while not daring to look at Jimin.
For the first time today, on this shitty day, Jimin tugs a smile to the clear stubbornness still behind Taemin's expression, but takes the plate and eats a bit of the food.
It began to feel more comfortable than they have expected with this large group as the hour passed. Plates were empty and jokes were said, letting the story of the high school sweethearts reach everyone's noisy ears.
"Wait so it was because you were forced to do a play?" Lucas barks a laugh, fusing Minho's cheeks pink as Taehyung tells the story, shushing him in the process so he could finish.
Oh the day is clear in Taehyung's head the first time he ever met Minho, and it was for a play that they were forced to do in school. Their grades were low; Taehyung being focused on music and Minho with football during that time in middle school, so their parents made them take this class in hopes it raises it up to their standards.
Similar situations, complete strangers.
During that time, Minho was openly gay meanwhile Taehyung was still discovering what he's interested in, and funny to think that he was not attracted to Minho in the beginning if he's quite honest.
But Minho's crush on him was obvious and he absolutely had no idea how to act normal around Taehyung.
He could follow the script of the play perfectly but the second Taehyung was around or his part came up, he would trip over his feet or stutter over his lines that they literally had to redo it all over again.
It was a horrible crush, and Taehyung was clearly oblivious of it since he was so focused on doing this to get a good grade.
The little ambitious kid he was and still is.
There was this scene that they had to do together and the poor director was ready to rip their heads off by the many times they had to retake it, especially since Taehyung began to grow quite shy and his voice would become almost a mumble.
One day during rehearsals, Minho and Taehyung stayed after to practice their lines better and for once they finally got the scene done right, after fifteen times. So when they changed into their regular clothes in the dressing room, they didn't realize someone locked the door from the outside, most likely the teacher closing up the auditorium up and assuming it was empty.
Frustration, annoyance and desperation clouded that room, especially since Minho had a game and Taehyung a music competition to get to.
And their phones were dead.
They were screwed.
They stayed in the dressing for the whole night, giving up on shouting for security or a janitor while missing their most important events.
However, it wasn't so..... Bad as how they thought it was going to be.
Finally Minho was able to talk to Taehyung without being a rambling mess and Taehyung showed his more playful side that was clouded by his determination to do good, flashing his boxy smile ever so often if Minho tried hard enough.
Something stirred up that night between them, and it felt right when they held each other on the couch as they fell asleep.
Talking about Pokémon cards and their passion for their desires in life.
Following morning arrived and gladly they were awake when the door was unlocked by a janitor. The two practically sprinted out of the room and onto their separate ways home.
To say that their parents were a worried mess would be an understatement, but they were just grateful that they were safe.
That day at school, Taehyung and Minho were a bit more chattier than usual. Giggles were exchanged here and there and Taehyung smiled a bit more.
By the end of that month, Taehyung and Minho did everything together; Eat lunch, walk each other to and from school, go to each other's houses and have sleep overs.
Innocent things really, for twelve year olds.
Minho's crush grew and Taehyung was slowly discovering his more personal interest in Minho, being able to determine how he feels for him in his way.
And he likes him a lot, no matter how young he was.
So one day, the night before the performance of the play, Taehyung stayed over at Minho's house to sleep over. They were playing video games at first before it got late and they decided to get some sleep.
They slept together, cuddled up in a bundle before Taehyung would tear himself off Minho when the sunrises just so his parents won't see them like that.
Yet that night he took a chance.
While they were laying on the bed, gazing at each other in the eyes, Taehyung leaned and pecked his lips in a shy kiss.
To say Minho was on fire would be an understatement.
He's been crushing on Taehyung for more than half a year, school wise, so for this moment to happen just felt all too surreal. Giddily and flutters was spiraling all over the place, and it just felt so right.
So when Taehyung pulled away, Minho pulled him in again.
Both stealing each other's first innocent kiss.
They didn't do anything extreme that night, obviously, besides just that before going to sleep.
Fast forward to a year later, another year in middle school before their final year. Taehyung and Minho were the closest friends and the best duo in school, even their families were growing close because of the two friends.
They haven't kissed ever since a year ago from the night before the play, since they decided its best if they got to know each other better. It's too soon to get into anything serious while they still have a lot to learn and discover about themselves.
They have grew an immense amount of respect and care for one another that they don't want if they get into a relationship than it'll ruin everything, especially since they're still so young.
So they did get to know each other, without any strings attached in the relationship type, and there's just not a side that they have that they haven't showed each other. At one point Minho did get into a relationship within that period and Taehyung did with someone else as well. They weren't upset since at the end of the day they were still best friends, and they always tried to help each other out on how to maintain it.
Both relationships didn't last long and another year passed, their last year and now fourteen, and that's when Minho decided to officially pursuit Taehyung.
At first Taehyung was hesitant since he was just so scared to not have Minho by his side in a future if they do come apart, however that slowly began to be a doubt that faded away after Taehyung realized this is Minho that he's talking about.
They wouldn't come apart so easily because deep down inside Taehyung knew Minho felt the same way, and they would protect what they have no matter what. Whether it's a friendship or relationship.
So they made it official.
It's been seven years since they've been knowing each other.
Five years together as a relationship.
And still going strong.
For Taehyung, Minho isn't just his boyfriend anymore because that title is just far too little.
He's many things in one.
He was there through every stage of Taehyung's life, advised him with friendships and relationship problems in the past and present, cheered him for his accomplishments, motivated him when he felt like giving up, and treats him almost like his best friend but a bit more intimate than that.
Minho is his best friend, who Taehyung can talk about anything with really. They usually say it's best to keep somethings to the grave with you, but Minho is literally all Taehyung can count on because he just understands so much.
That's the trust they have developed within time together, and that's what keeping this relationship as strong as how it is now.
They're not boyfriends, they're family.
Their each other's family.
Ten was practically a sobbing mess by the time Taehyung finished, expressing how cute it was and how he can't even get a first kiss from someone but how they're story is so cute and genuine.
Anyone could tell that Taehyung and Minho are crazily in love with each other. There's just something so special and welcoming by seeing how happy Taehyung is with him.
To respect what they have to keep this aura there.
That's the thing with Taehyung; he has this aura that just makes everyone like him. Almost like a small child type of happiness and compassion, giving everyone around him this urge to just protect him from the world.
Well, he definitely has Minho to do just that.
"What about you Jeongguk? Into dating anyone?"
When Jin suddenly asked that question, all attention swarmed onto the shy ravenette. Jeongguk could feel the pressure of all the stares, especially from Woosung to the side of his face.
So shakily he signs, making Ten blink it's over before looking at them.
"I prefer dating in the future, where I could get married to my girlfriend when I get one."
Taehyung awed to this, pinching Jeongguk's cheek adoringly, "That's so cute!"
"Not to sound stereotypical or anything, or let alone offend you and if I did I'm sorry, but does that mean you're waiting to have sex until your married? Meaning...... You're still a virgin?"
Oh Jeongguk is definitely feeling uncomfortably flustered, and embarrassed. He couldn't look up now, only staring at his hands while feeling like he's stuck in place. However he knew Minho didn't mean anything bad about that question, just genuine curiosity, so he answers.
"Yes."
It was quiet for a moment, more so because they didn't want to make him uncomfortable or didn't know how to respond to thus, but then someone clears their throat.
Everyone looks up and turns to Taemin, who's only focusing on Jeongguk while trying to figure out the correct words to say so he won't sound weird.
And he hopes he doesn't sound like an idiot.
"Sex, no rush. Take time.... Umm...... I'm sorry, s-still learning," Taemin instantly stutters but takes a deep breath to calm himself down, "You good. Heart is good. Good person come and take care. Sex is not love always, so wait until you ready with someone who your heart goes boom bomb for."
And that broke a smile on Jeongguk's face, feeling relaxed that he doesn't have to rush anything for himself, no matter the pressures around him.
In this life, there's always so much stereotypes on men; If he's a virgin than he's a whimp or unattractive. If they don't try hard to be cool, get beaten by someone who is.
It's always a competition, especially in high school.
Taemin is right, it's better for him to stick with what he had in mind than letting others manipulate it.
Everyone around the table cooes to Taemin's words except for Jimin; who was staring at him with his heart weighing heavy in his chest.
Maybe those were the words he needed to hear too with his crisis he's going through, but he'll never admit to that.
Unfortunately, he was not able to escape the spotlight.
"What about you Jimin?" Johnny asked, sipping his drink, "Don't you have a girlfriend? Where is she?"
Jimin gulps while gripping his hands under the table to this question, seeing the attention sole on him now but he looks at Jin in hopes he can back him up on this.
And Jin got the message.
"Oh, she's off working during their anniversary," Jin beams bitterly, the forced smile clearly on his face, avoiding Jimin's glare, "I mean she could've made time but I guess people are just so busy these days, am I right Jimin?"
By now Jimin doesn't even know where to hide his face anymore.
He should've known Jin was not about to keep his mouth silent about this. If anything, petty is one of those things.
Especially when it comes to anyone invoking Jimin since they're practically family.
"I'm sorry, what? Today is your anniversary?" Minho asks awestruck, fave twisted in confusion, "I mean it's just one day, it won't hurt to call off one day!"
"I was just thinking that!"
And suddenly half the table suddenly became Jimin's lawyers, giving him every reason to be upset and how he's not even suppose to be here right now.
If only they knew the depth of the story.
And at this point Jimin is too tired and fed up to say anything to them. He's not in the mood, at all, so he just leans back to the chair with a deep frown while finally abandoning his phone to the side.
Taemin flickers his eyes to him, studying the deep frown on his lips and the way he closes his eyes as though he's trying to block the world out just to be alone.
It just didn't sit right seeing Jimin like this.
He's just so upset.
Initially Taemin did want to him away, just for the assumption that he's not a good person to be around and will only cause him trouble here.
But just for a moment Taemin wanted to listen to him, help comfort him in anyway he could. Maybe it's Taemin's compassionate heart speaking, but he can't stand seeing people upset.
Not Jimin.
So right when he was about to say something, Taehyung calls out to him.
Jimin turns his head to him lazily, seeing both Jeongguk and Taehyung looking at him while the rest continue on with their court case.
"I'm planning on having a movie night tomorrow. Would be nice if you'd came? You know, to distract your mind for a bit."
Jimin was completely surprised by this invite, since not many people really do enjoy his company by how cold and rude he is, yet Taehyung seems genuine about the offer with his large hopeful eyes.
So without thinking the thought if he had plans tomorrow, which he never does with Jihyo, he nods with a twitching smile.
Making Taemin look away and only moves his focus to his phone, as though he wasn't going to say anything.
Reminding himself that at the end of the day, Jimin is still someone he shouldn't be around with.
No matter how tempted he is.
