New School
I just need to get through this year. Hopefully senior year at a new high school won't be too bad. I'll just keep to myself.
I thought as the principal led me down the hall to help my find my first class, Probability and Statistics. The principal walked in first to explain my situation to the teacher while I observed the class. Everyone looked pretty bored out of their minds. I saw one boy sitting towards the back by the window. He glanced up when he heard the door open, his gaze fixed directly on me. He had raven black hair with bangs coming down to swoop over his left eye slightly. His eyes were a crystal like purple that held an alluring depth to them. He wore a long sleeve black shirt that hung loosely from his thin body, along with black skinny jeans and black high top converse. I kept my own gaze steady, feeling drawn to his violet eyes,
I didn't even know eyes came in that color. I'm sure he gets plenty of looks from the girls here.
I thought to myself as the teacher motioned me over,
"Hello, (Y/N), I'm Mr. Oh. Would you like to introduce yourself or would you prefer to sit?"
My breath caught in my throat at the thought of speaking in front of people I don't know. I smiled politely before responding,
"I'd rather sit. I don't want to disrupt your class any further."
He smiled knowingly and pointed to a seat in the back next to the boy,
"That's Riki. He's a little shy but don't let that put you off. We have a test today but you'll be exempt from that since you just transferred in."
I thanked him before moving to take my seat next to Riki. I smiled at him politely. He returned with a small, shy smile before directing his attention to the test in front of him. I rested my head in my right hand and started to zone out, thinking about everything I have to do today,
I think I get paid today, so I should have enough money to go grocery shopping on Saturday. I have tomorrow night off, thankfully. Even though it'll be Friday night I don't think I'll go out anywhere. Probably just stay home and watch a movie.
I snapped out of my thoughts when something black crossed my vision. I blinked a few times and saw it was Riki's shirt as he walked in front of our desks to turn in his test. When he sat back down he leaned back in his chair and started zoning out. I pulled out a piece of paper and wrote something down before passing it to him,
Hi
He looked at me and smirked before responding,
Hey
He wrote back. I smiled,
I'm (Y/N). You're Riki, right?
Yeah
Cools (^.^) how was the test?
Easy. This class isn't very hard.
That's good.
I was running out of things to say and when that happens random stuff comes out. I wrote down the first thought that popped into my head and slid the paper back to him,
If you could be any type of cookie what would it be?
I heard him laugh a little under his breath before writing down a response,
I feel like I'd probably be one of those decorative cookies that you think are really good but end up tasting gross
I giggled quietly before responding,
Haha that's awesome XD I'd want to be a raisin cookie that looks like a chocolate chip cookie so that I'll give everyone trust issues when they go for a chocolate chip.
He smirked to himself and quietly laughed a little. He wrote something down and slid the paper back to me,
What's your next class?
Forensics? I already completed my requirements to graduate at my old school so I signed up for whatever sounded like fun. I think forensics is next but I'm not sure where it is.
I can help you find it if you want. I think we'll be headed in the same direction.
If you don't mind I'd love the help (^.^)
Before he could respond the bell rang and we began to gather our things. I handed him my schedule and he nodded,
"I know where that room is. It's right next to where I have Biology."
I smiled happily,
"Great! Let's go."
We started walking down to the science hallway when a guy ran straight into me. I would've fallen over if Riki hadn't have held me up. I glared up at the guy and saw him glaring right back at me. He had short blonde hair that framed his face slightly with amber eyes. He wore a navy blue button up shirt with dark gray jeans. His eyes held irritation as he looked down at me,
"Watch where you're going, idiot."
He spit out coldly. I crossed my arms and glared at him,
"You ran into me, genius, you're the one who needs to watch where they're going."
The irritation in my voice was obvious as I held my ground against the rude boy in front of me. He scoffed at my response before walking around Riki and I. When he was out of earshot I scoffed,
"Dick."
I rolled my eyes as I turned to Riki, who was watching the direction the blonde boy had just gone with a dark look in his eyes. I snapped my fingers in front of the violet eyed boy and he blinked a few times in alarm before turning to me. I raised an eyebrow before speaking,
"You good?"
Riki nodded silently as we made our way to our next classes. When we arrived at my class he smiled,
"Looks like this is it. Have fun in forensics. It looks like you have your English class next. I have gym so I won't be able to help you find it."
He sounded sad at the thought of being unable to help me. I smiled and quickly reassured him,
"Don't worry about it! You helped me more than I ever asked you to. Thank you so much. I'm sure I can find someone in there who can help."
He smiled at my positive attitude and nodded,
"See you later then."
"See ya!"
I said as he went into his Biology class. I turned on my heel and went into my forensics class. I saw the teacher sitting at his desk and went up to him. He looked up at me and smiled politely,
"You must be the new student. I'm Mr. Ayo. Take a seat wherever you'd like. Since this is such a small class I didn't assign seats."
I nodded in thanks as I took an open seat next to a boy with very pale skin, in contrast to his jet black hair. He wore a simple maroon v-neck with a sleeveless, black denim hoodie and dark gray jeans with black combat boots. I sat down next to him and he turned to me, his icy blue eyes meeting mine as he spoke,
"Who're you?"
He asked bluntly. I smiled awkwardly,
"I'm (Y/N). I just transferred here. I'm still trying to find my way around."
He nodded in understanding before extending his hand and giving me a toothy five year old grin,
"I'm Bex."
I giggled as I shook his hand,
"Nice to meet you, Bex. So what are we doing in forensics?"
"Nothin' special. He's talking about criminal law right now. Like the rights they have and stuff."
"And the answer is what, Mr. Akayami?"
Mr. Ayo interrupted. Bex blinked and Mr. Ayo pointed to the board.
What requires the prosecution to disclose all evidence and witness lists to the defense?
Bex stared at the question blankly and Mr. Ayo sighed,
"If you can't answer I'll have to write you up for not paying attention."
My hand shot up and Mr. Ayo gestured for me to answer,
"The answer is discovery motion."
The whole class looked at me as Mr. Ayo nodded in agreement,
"That's correct. Pay more attention, Mr. Akayami, and you might learn something."
Mr. Ayo continued with his lecture as usual while everyone took notes. When the bell rang I felt a tap on my shoulder. I turned and saw Bex looking at me in surprise,
"How'd you know about discovery motion?"
I visibly tended at the question, memories of the trial flooding my mind. Bex seemed to notice this and put an arm around my shoulders comfortingly,
"I'm sorry. I didn't mean to upset you. You don't have to answer that. I..I'm sorry..."
I shook my head at his remorseful words,
"You couldn't have known. Anyway what's your next class? Mine's English."
"With Mrs. Tanayama?"
"Yep."
"Me too! Let's go together!"
Bex said happily. I smiled and nodded as we both headed up the stairs towards our next class on the second floor.
