Comfort

My eyes popped open only to be greeted by the darkness of the room. I rolled over and grabbed my phone from the nightstand to check the time. It was 1:30 in the morning. I sighed and rolled out of bed, walking over to the window and looked outside. The view was beautiful. I could see the moon shining brightly down on the quiet street, along with a bunch of stars twinkling in the sky like glitter. I smiled to myself, happy that I had a chance to enjoy the view and just relax. My happiness was soon replaced by worry, however, as I heard pained whimpers floating through the thin walls of the residence. I quietly crept out of my room and over to Senri's room next door. When I was close enough I knocked softly,

"Senri? Are you okay?"

The pained whimpers continued and I cracked the door open. I quietly closed the door behind me and made my way over to Senri. From the moonlight illuminating his room I got a pretty good look at him; he was sweating and his features were scrunched together in pain. He kept turning and fidgeting in his bed. I gently shook him,

"Senri? Senri, you have to wake up."

I called out to him a little louder. When his eyes didn't open I shook him harder,

"Please wake up."

I said worriedly as I shook him harder. Suddenly, his eyes shot open and he sat bolt upright. His amber orbs flicked all over the room in fear until they settled on me. His breathing was still labored as he spoke,

"What the hell are you doing in here?"

His tone held shock and a small amount of anger. I spoke softly and calmly to him,

"You were having a nightmare. I heard you in my room. I knocked on the door but you didn't respond. I was worried so I came in. You didn't look good so I tried to wake you up. It took a few seconds but I did. Are you alright?"

His shock at me being in his room swiftly faded and was replaced with anger,

"What the hell gave you the right to invade me bedroom?"

I sighed,

"I was just worried something was wrong. Excuse me for giving a damn about you. I'm so sorry I was ever concerned for your well being. I'll go and leave you to your nightmares."

I said sarcastically as I stood up and began walking away from the blonde. Before I got two steps away, I felt his hand wrap around my wrist and pull me back. I hissed in pain and he looked at me with concern,

"I didn't pull you that hard."

I shook my head,

"No it wasn't you. It's nothing."

I rubbed my wrist slightly and spoke again,

"Do you want to talk about it? Your nightmare? If not that's completely okay."

Senri looked directly into my eyes, the gears in his mind turning. After a few moments, he spoke,

"When I was younger, I was not well liked. Yes I was intelligent far beyond those around me, but I think that made them hate me more. Even my father hated me."

His voice grew hard when he mentioned his father. I reached forward and squeezed his hand in support,

"Take your time. This is at your speed. You can stop if you want."

Senri's eyes locked onto where my hand covered his. Taking a deep breath, the golden haired honor student continued,

"When I was five years old, my father had invited the other executives from his company to our house for a meeting. I had just happened to be playing near the room. When I looked inside, I noticed he had a mathematical mistake on his board. Now I never would've corrected it, but when I was five I didn't know any better. I walked right in and, loudly and clearly in front of all of them, told my father he made a mistake in his math. Once I pointed it out the other executives corroborated my claim."

I nodded in understanding as he continued, his voice becoming distant and detached,

"After the meeting was over my father came into my room. He glared down at me with such hateful eyes... I asked him what I did wrong and instead of telling me he... he..."

I squeezed Senri's hand tightly,

"It's alright. You don't have to say anymore if you don't want to. I won't push you."

My voice was soft as I regarded the vulnerable male in front of me,

He always comes off so strong and brusque, but right now he looks so fragile that he'll shatter at the slightest touch.

I looked into his eyes and saw a pain I recognized all too well. The pain of a past he never reconciled. I remembered how I felt and what I needed. I tentatively leaned forward and pulled the fragile teen into a comforting hug. I felt him stiffen slightly under my touch, and almost pulled away, until he wrapped his arms around me and held me tightly to his slender frame. All of the raw emotions he'd kept bottled up came pouring out as he held me. I felt a wetness on my cheek and looked up to see Senri crying, his eyes red and misty as his tears slipped from his eyes and rolled down his face,

"It's alright. You can let it out, Senri. I'm right here. I'll listen to you and be here for you. It's okay."

I whispered to him softly, making him hold me tighter as he cried silently into my shoulder. I gently held him as he let out the emotions he's been repressing. Once he calmed down a bit more he spoke quietly to me,

"I don't understand. I've been so cruel to you ever since we first met, why are you bothering to offer me support?"

I smiled kindly, yet sadly, at the confused teen in front of me,

"Because I know what it's like not to have someone to turn to when you're in pain. Even though you've insulted me and accidentally made me cry, that isn't reason enough for me to turn my back on you when I can clearly see you're in pain. I don't want to see you suffer in silence and let your pain fester."

Senri's golden blonde strands fell slightly in front of his eyes as he looked at me, our faces illuminated by the moonlight spilling into the room. His amber eyes looked into my (E/C) ones, shock and regret shining in his while I smiled kindly at him,

"You don't have to tell me everything right now. Take your time. I'll be here when you're ready."

He was still in shock as I slowly began to stand up and make my way towards the door. Before I had taken a step, his pale hand shot out to grab my arm. I looked at him in confusion before he spoke,

"Please... don't leave me alone. I... don't want to be alone right now..."

His tone was broken and strained, as if it was the first time he had ever reached out to someone. I nodded in understanding and got back on the bed, laying down next to him,

"I'll stay right here next to you until you wake up. I promise."

I spoke softly to the fragile teen who, in turn, smiled gratefully as he rolled onto his back,

"(Y/N)?"

He called out quietly. I hummed in response as he tilted his head to look at me, his eyes burning into mine,

"I know I don't deserve your kindness, but thank you for extending it."

I laughed slightly and smiled at him,

"That's what friends are for, right?"

Something flashed in his eyes when I called us "friends" but before I could place what it was, it vanished. He shut his eyes and tried to sleep. I figured I should do the same. I let my eyes slip shut and drifted off to sleep.
