"Why did she do it?"
"Does he know? He hasn't said a single word to us."
"Well, he is the one that found her."
"Poor kid. Must be hard losing an older sister."
These words circulated around his head.
Especially in the context of the funeral.
They all sat around a casket, his mom and dad sobbing and shrieking.
He didn't know how to feel. Grief? Shame? Bleakness? Grim?
Overflowing happiness?
He couldn't tell.
He was wearing a black suit with a sunflower in his hair.
It made him sick.
Why did she have to leave me in this eternal hell you call living?
Why did she get to go? Why can't I?
She looks at peace. Why not me?
His dark teal eyes stare at her face, her torso, her hands.
Oh, how he missed her.
Oh, how he grieved.
...
Oh, how 𝐠𝐥𝐨𝐫𝐢𝐨𝐮𝐬 this was~
"Are you okay?" His thoughts are interrupted by the sound of his grandmother's gentle but croaky voice.
He kept his eyes on the corpse and nodded, not really paying attention to her.
"... I never really liked her." The grandmother's sweet and pristine smile stayed.
"... what...?" Basil slowly glares up at her, while she puts a finger over her mouth.
"Come with me." She grabs him by the arm and pulls him over to a tree, away from everyone.
"I think you're old enough." She grins softly.
"What..? Why didn't you like her...?" Basil was still, full of utter confusion and distrust.
"Don't tell anyone about this, okay?" The grandmother weakly says.
"... okay." He wants to know.
"So, a few days before she... passed away.. I came to check on her in her room. And.." she hesitated for a moment, "she was... masturbating... to..." it's like she couldn't even finish.
"What's that?" He turns his head.
"It's when you really like something, or someone... or... if you want relief or pleasure. You following?"
"... sure."
"Alright. Anyways, I saw her... and she was... muttering something- someone...'s name." The grandma nervously chuckled, trying to figure out how to dumb it down for him.
"Who?" He was genuinely curious.
"... you." She winced.
"Huh? Why me? What does that mean?"
"... it means she liked you.... romantically. and... er... sexually."
Basil darts his eyes around the graveyard, then back at her, "So?" He was completely clueless.
"You guys... were siblings. That's wrong. 𝐕𝐞𝐫𝐲 wrong." The grandma exclaimed, but then went a bit further, "... did she... ever... do.... anything?"
"What do you mean?"
"Like... to you?"
...
They sat there for a good minute, just, staring at each other. The more seconds went by, the more her face twisted with worry.
"... no." He firmly whispered, turning away.
"...did she ever..." she pauses.
"t o u c h y o u . . . ?"
Those words hit him like a tsunami crashing on a beach. His mouth gapes open, trying to find a correct response.
Millions of thoughts and words replay over and over again in his head.
"If you tell anyone, I'll kill you."
"Remember what tattletales get... right?"
"E v e r y t h i n g i s g o i n g t o b e o k a y "
The snap of her neck.
*CRACK*
Before he could catch himself, tears seeped down his cheeks. His eyes were absent, void of any emotion, besides, a unsettling feeling in his stomach.
He didn't recognize it.
Basil's face started to heat up, and he felt dizzy.
He could hear muffled screams by his grandmother, who he fell into her arms.
His vision was dark, blurry, and 𝐜𝐨𝐥𝐝.
Why did she have to leave me alone...?
Leaving me to rot, like fucking garbage.
Am I really that horrible of a person...?
...
Yes... it all makes sense now...
This world was too much for our love... no one would understand... so she left.
Now's my job to follow her, like I always do.
Now's my turn.
Then,
we'll be together... f o r e v e r . . . ♡︎
