We sit in the new and improved quinjet. Bruce had gone green and destroyed the city, which is not great on our part. He still sits by himself sulking on the floor. Clint pilots while everyone else is sitting down in chairs; however, Thor paces the floor with anxiety. I sit in my own isolated chair and Tori sits near me in her's next to Natasha.
Images of the scene I was shown still haunt me, but I think Tori has it worse. She sits next to me and fiddles with her trembling hands. I don't want her to tell me what she saw. I already know based off her actions. She can't look me or Tony in the eyes without her's starting to water. She runs her fingers through her hair with her eyes squeezed shut, trying to get rid of her thoughts.
I can't look at her either without seeing Peggy or us dancing. It hurts to compare the two people that I have cared about most.
"The news is loving you guys," Maria Hill says over a radio. "Nobody else is. There's been no official call for Banner's arrest, but it's in the air."
"The Stark Relief Foundation?" Tony asks softly.
"Already on the scene," Maria says. "How's the team?"
I flex my fingers and move my jaw. I glance at Tori, who stares at her left hand. I heave a sigh and listen to the conversation.
"Everyone's..." Tony begins. "We took a hit. We'll shake it off."
"Well, for now, I'd stay in stealth mode and stay away from here."
"So, run and hide?"
"Until we can find Ultron, I don't have a lot else to offer."
"Neither do we," Tony sighs.
As I hear Tony end the call, I take another glance at Tori. She stares off into the distance, bobbing her leg up and down. She sighs and abruptly looks up me.
"Hey," I whisper.
"Hey," Tori replies.
I sigh. "I guess you're not feeling much better than anyone else."
"No," she says. "But I think it'll leave my mind eventually. I see things like that all the time. Not the same for everyone else."
"Yeah," I breathe.
We sit in silence again and listen to the small conversation between Tony and Clint.
"A safe house," Clint says to him.
Tori's eyes light up. She looks back at me, raising an eyebrow. I nod slowly. I hear a pair of footsteps approach us, sad and heavy. Tony kneels on the ground next to his little sister, resting a hand on her arm.
"You should get some sleep, Tori," he whispers to her. "Clint's got a safe house that we'll be at in a couple hours."
She makes an approving grunt, not looking up from her hands. Tony eyes me, nodding. He gestures to Tori and then back to me. I nod in response as he walks back to his seat.
I look back at Tori and gently rest my left hand on her knee. She looks up and halfway smiles. I use my right hand and motion her to come here. She shakes her head, scoffing, and stands. She sits on my lap as I take her into my arms. Resting her head on my shoulder, we both sleep for the short while that we're still midair.
