I sit in a chair in the Avengers Tower. Steve stands in front of me, putting a bandage above my right eyebrow from a cut. He intently stares at the bandage and makes sure that it is perfect.
"Done," Steve says, backing away from my face to examine his work.
"Does it look okay?" I ask him.
"Yep," he says.
"Wait a minute," I say, examining his face. "You have a cut on your cheek."
"It's okay."
"I'm putting a bandage on it."
"Fine," he grins.
I make Steve switch with me, sitting in my chair and I stand. I get a damp cloth and dab it on the cut, getting the blood. Once I get all of it, I put a liquid on it that Steve used on mine and put a bandage over it.
"You two done in there?" Tony asks from the living room with the others.
"Almost," I say, adjusting the bandage. "Now I'm done."
Steve and I walk out of the kitchen and to the living room with Tony, Bruce, Clint, and Natasha. We all wear regular clothes to relax. Tony's face is bandaged up and there are some bruises forming. Clint and Natasha have small cuts and bruises here and there. Steve does his best to avoid eye contact with Tony, not wanting to see his face. Steve and I sit on a sofa with the rest of the Avengers to join the conversation.
"Can I tell them?" Tony begs.
I exchange a glance with Steve, who nods.
"I suppose." I say.
"Steve and Tori kissed!"
The room goes dead silent, not a word to be spoken. They all are happy, but wordless.
"Woo!" Natasha screams. "You owe me twenty bucks, Banner!"
"What?" Steve and I ask in unison.
"We all knew it was going to happen at one point or another," Bruce says, handing Natasha her twenty dollars. "Just not this soon, or so I thought."
"I was right, I was right," Natasha sings.
Everyone laughs.
"Was it a passionate kiss?" Clint asks Tony.
"Yeah," Tony speaks. "It lasted for over a minute."
Steve and I blush.
"So, is the Captain America a good kisser?" Natasha asks me.
Steve blushes again, not wanting me to answer.
"Yeah," I say quietly, grinning.
"Is the Mystérieux a good kisser? She lived in France for a while." Clint says.
"Oh my god," I say, hiding my face with my hand.
"Yes," Steve whispers.
"Really?" Tony exclaims. "That was her first kiss."
"Anthony!" I shout.
"Yes, Mother?" he teases.
"That's really personal." I hiss.
"Oops, sorry."
The room is silent again.
"It didn't feel like it," Steve mumbles.
I smile, trying to hide my relief. While the others chat about us, Steve and I just stare at each other, remembering every moment of that kiss. Yes, it was awkward for the both of us when it happened. We both were in a state of shock when I did it, but it was amazing. The only thing wrong with it was that I was sobbing and he was overcoming from being brainwashed.
"Anyway," Bruce says. "That wasn't even a quarter of the base."
"What?" Tony, Clint, Natasha, Steve and I say.
"I wasn't able to reach you because Steve wouldn't answer, and the rest of you couldn't hear me." Bruce informs us.
Steve looks down at the floor, incredibly ashamed. "It was my fault. I let my guard down a-and the rest is hard to talk about."
I am about to say something, but I decide to tell him later.
"No, it wasn't," Tony says. "I have no idea what happened, but all of the noise and the fact that we were so focused caused us to not listen."
"I was getting worried around then because Steve wouldn't answer me either." I admit.
"My earpiece fell out," Steve says. "What happened caused me to pass out and it must have fallen out when I hit the floor."
"Hmm," Bruce ponders. "That explains a lot."
Steve shifts in his seat, recalling the memory. I gaze into his eyes, my own filled with worry.
Tony clears his throat. "It's one o'clock in the afternoon, we should do something."
"Tony," I say. "No offense, but you aren't really capable to do something extravagant."
"None taken," he sighs.
"Sir," J.A.R.V.I.S. butts in. "You have a call."
Tony heaves a long sigh. "Fine," he groans.
"I'll transfer it to the telephone." the computer says.
Tony picks up his mobile phone and answers the incoming call. "Hello?"
As he is on the call, the rest of us stay silent. I continue to stare at Steve and mouth if he is okay. He always nods, but just so that the others don't know the pain that he is in. He knows just as well as I do that I know he is hurting.
"Bye," Tony says, ending the call. "It was Fury."
