(Azazel's POV)

I woke up early in the morning. Unsurprising, based on how worried and nervous I am. This can either be my final day on the job, or my final day on Earth.

It took me a while to get to sleep the night before, with my mind rushing, thinking of everything that could happen. Yet... In all the things I imagined happening to me, and everyone in Inkopolis, not once did I consider not doing it. If I'm going to die, then I'll die with honor.

I went downstairs and made myself a light breakfast, not feeling very hungry. I decided to leave for Octo Canyon before Pearl or Marina woke up. I wanted to walk there today.

I was taking in all the sights of the city, breathing the air in, really taking in the freshness of the air. Seeing the rays of the early morning sun protruding from behind the towers. I got to a bridge along the way. It overlooked a large part of the city and the ocean. The sun looked like it was coming right out of the ocean. I stopped for a moment to take in the sight and let the heat of the sun hit my body.

I then started back on my way of getting to Octo Canyon.

(Marina's POV, last night)

Pearl quietly opened Marina's bedroom door.

She tip-toed her way across the room to go over to the outlet along the wall. She unplugged Marina's alarm clock, then plugged it back in.

On Pearl's way of sneaking out of the room, she stopped and took a picture of Marina, Marina's alarm clock, and herself. She then giggled as she snuck the rest of the way out of her room. Then, as she was closing the door...

Pearl: Hehe. Check it.

She then shut the door, quietly.

Marina's eyes then opened.

Marina: *Whispering* Thanks for the advice, Pearlie.

With a smile on her face, Marina then set her alarm clock correctly.

Marina: *Whispering* I hope you don't mind, Pearlie, but I took the liberty of changing your alarm time, to give you some more sleep. You are quite energetic, so think of it as giving your batteries some extra charge.

She giggled, then went back to sleep.

-Present-

Marina woke up to the sun on her face. She stretched her arms and back, then got up.

She walked downstairs, and made a bowl of cereal. She went upstairs and brought it to my room.

Marina: Azazel? I made you breakfast. I'm coming in, so I hope you're decent.

Marina then opened the door to see an empty bed.

Marina: Azazel? Are you in the bathroom.

No response.

She saw a note on the bed. She set the cereal down to go pick up, and read the letter.

Dear Marina and/or Pearl,

Don't worry, I'm fine. I have some very important work to do today, so I decided to leave early, to get a head-start. I hope you aren't upset. I thought I could use the fresh air.

Marina: Of course. He went back to mystery-nowhere for this job he does... *Sigh* And my plan went so perfectly.

Marina took the cereal, and ate it herself.

Marina: Well, *Munch* it shouldn't go to waste. *Munch*

Marina just sat downstairs watching TV, eating cereal, while waiting for Pearl to get up.

Pearl: Marina!

Pearl ran downstairs. Her footsteps sounding much like when a child hears food is ready.

Pearl: You rigged my alarm.

Marina: Eeeyup.

Pearl: What did you do? Hack my alarm clock? Did you use your computer, and plug it into the alarm clock?

Marina: I used the buttons to change when the alarm would go off.

Pearl:

Marina: There's more.

Pearl: No...

Marina: And to think. My genius plan didn't even matter.

Pearl: Huh?

Marina: He's not here.

Pearl: Wha? Where is he?

Marina: Apparently, he left to get to his important job today.

Pearl: Oh..

Marina: I made your breakfast for you. It's in the kitchen.

Pearl: Yes!

Pearl ran to the kitchen to eat up her breakfast, with a big smile on her face.

Marina: Well, Pearlie, we should head to work now. Are you ready?

Pearl: Yeah, let me just get my shoes on first.

Marina: Okay.

Marina gave Pearl a smile then went out the door.

(Azazel's POV)

I popped out of the grate in Octo Canyon.

Azazel: Huh? I guess I beat Marie here.

I thought it was best to wait for Marie before starting any missions. The only problem was, I had no idea what to do in the meantime.

Azazel: You know, I've never actually seen the inside of this shack. I guess it wouldn't hurt to get a small peek inside.

Marie: Don't even think about it.

I nearly fell over from the surprise of Marie appearing behind me.

Azazel: Jeez! Don't scare me like that!

Marie: Don't try going into other people's... shacks.

Azazel: Okay, fine. You've got me there. Now, are you ready to start this?

Marie: More than ever.

We both smiled at each other.

I headed to Sector 5 and got started on the missions.

Azazel: Damn. Those Octolings were tough!

Marie: Well this is their last line of defense. Now-

In the center of the area, the floor now opened up to a saucer spinning it's way up, with the grate that led to the final fight... The end to all of this.

Marie: All right. Let's do this.

I got over to the grate, but just before I went into it, I stopped. I lowered my weapon.

Azazel: Marie?...

Marie: Yeah?

I walked over to her, and much to her surprise, I pulled her in for a hug. Marie was blushing at this point, as this was unexpected.

Azazel: If something happens, if I don't make it... I just want to say... Thank you. For believing I could do this. You've been a great friend to me, and I can't thank you enough.

Marie: *Blushing* T-thanks. For all the help you've done for me here.

I gave a nervous laugh as I let go of Marie. As I walked to the grate, Marie spoke up.

Marie: Hey, Azazel.

Azazel: What is it, Marie?

Marie: Please bring my cousin back.

Azazel: You got it.

The saucer then spun as it started going downwards, then, once it got low enough, the floor closed over it.

Just like every boss fight before, I started on a little platform, away from the stage, with a launchpad that led to the stage.

I went onto the launchpad, which launched me over to the stage.

There was a large crowd of Octarians in the stands surrounding the stage. They're all cheering for whoever I was about to have to fight.

In front of me appeared to be a stage in the center of the area, surrounded by Octarian-purple ink. On the stage, all that could be seen was someone facing the other way.

I walked a bit closer, then suddenly...

Marie: Wait... Is that...? Callie?!

Callie then turned around with her arms crossed.

Callie: I told you to leave...

Marie: Callie... Why?

Callie quickly struck a pose, something that looked like it came right out of JoJo's Bizarre Adventure.

Callie: Now you leave me no choice...

She threw her hand to the side.

Callie: Prepare to be rocked!

She threw both of her fingers into the air.

Callie: Hey, DJ!

The stage she was standing on then lit up and started floating in the air. To reveal an Octopus wearing golden shutter-shades, and a samurai helmet. The high-ranking general of the Octarian Empire, DJ Octavio.

This stage had a bunch of speakers and two golden fists on the sides of the stage.

I could see the Great Zapfish poking out of the bottom of it, but it was quickly sucked up into the stage.

The stage's lights went up higher and it emitted a loud sound.

DJ Octavio: Octavio in da houuuuuuuuse! GYAH HA HA! I remixed Callie's brain

Azazel: (Oh! Thanks for giving away the secret, jackass.)

Callie: Time for our first song of the night: Bomb Rush Blush!

DJ Octavio: Time to drop the beatdown!

Callie: Spin it, DJ!

Azazel: Bring it on!

I then started inking the area, as it looked like one of the golden fists were... charging up?

I quickly splatted the fist and it bounced back at the Octobot, making the fist go back and hit the center of the Octobot. This caused Callie's dancing and singing to be interrupted as she was trying not to fall over, and Octavio was trying to protect himself with... wasabi?... Okay.

DJ Octavio: GRAAHK!

Azazel: Wow! That's quite the design flaw, smartass! You should probably get that fixed, that would be embarrassing to happen twice!

I didn't know why, but Octavio got angrier at me saying that, and quickly fired another fist at me.

Azazel: Oh shit.

I quickly splatted the fist out of the air again, launching it back at the Octobot.

Marie: That's it, Agent 4! Show no mercy!

Octavio then shot both of the fists at me at the same time.

I then shot of the fists out of the air back at the Octobot, then shot the other after it collided with the ground, just to the right of me.

Azazel: You're making this so easy, I'm actually getting worse! If you had spend more time upgrading your Octobot and having a better plan instead of embarrassing yourself, you might actually be a worthy opponent!

DJ Octavio: Silence, you insolent child!

Azazel: I'm 21, assbutt!

Marie: ...Assbutt?

DJ Octavio: Is this too easy for you?! Well fine then! Take this!

I then looked up at Callie.

Callie: ♪Blushing faces covered in Pink! Rushing bombs, exploding ink!♪

The Octobot then shot four giant splat bombs, that I barely avoided, getting a few splotches of ink on me.

Azazel: Well...! I wouldn't say challenging! I'd say more surprising!

The Octobot was charging up another fist, but it was spinning this time.

I was ready to shoot it back, but...

Sheldon: Watch out for his spinning punches. They can't be bounced back!

I jumped out of the way when I heard this, nearly getting smashed by the fist.

Azazel: I really wish you would've told me that before hand! It really seems like you've seen this before!

The Octobot then charged up two spinning punches.

I quickly splatted a line of ink to get out of their way first.

The Octobot then shot four more splat bombs, another spinning punch, and two more regular punches, which I easily took care of.

Callie: HNNNNG! Come on, Octavio!

Marie: Snap out of it, Callie!

The Octobot was doing something different now, it was moving back a bit, and was dripping more ink.

Marie: He's gonna hit you with his shower attack! Dodge to the side!

Azazel: You don't have to tell me twice!

The Octobot then showered over it's entire path, with me, of course, dodging to the side.

While the Octobot was taking a second to return to the stage and get its next attack ready, I was inking the area.

The Octobot then shot two more punches at me, but I still didn't have any trouble shooting them out of the air.

Once the second fist collided with the Octobot, Octavio fell out onto the area.

Marie: Octavio is exposed! This is your chance, Agent 4!

I didn't even blink an eye before I started splatting Octavio. This launched him back into the Octobot.

Azazel: Ooh! Guess I've got bad aim.

Callie: HMPH...

Marie: Callie! It's me. Your cousin Marie. Try to remember!

Callie struck her JoJo pose again.

Callie: DJ! Drop that spicy wasabi beat!

Azazel: The fuck? That sounds awful.

DJ Octavio: GYAH HA HA! Comin' with that hotness

Azazel: Goddamn, you sound like that dad who think he's still young and hot shit!

Marie: Don't hold back, Agent 4!

I then did a quick 360 to splat the newly cleaned turf with ink.

Marie: He's raising up!

The Octobot shot another punch at me.

I lowered my gun a bit and put my finger on my chin.

Azazel: You know! I don't know what made you think that throwing predictable punches at me seems to be your best strategy! For some high ranking general, I think you're just a pushover!

Then I took out the second punch Octavio had thought I hadn't noticed.

Azazel: Nice try, dumbass!

Marie: Something's coming! Can you shoot it down?

The machine then shot out a bunch of... takoyaki? Okay.

Azazel: Takoyaki? What? I mean... Okay!

I then shot as much as I could but some still went off, creating funnels of ink, limiting my directions on where to go.

Azazel: I take what I said bac-

I didn't notice the punch right in front of me and had been slammed backwards, losing my shields.

Marie: 4?! Look out!

I looked up and saw a second punch. Luckily, I was able to get rid of it before I got splatted.

Azazel: Fine! I'll bite! That one was on me!

I gave Octavio a thumbs up as he was hunched over for air.

Octavio was really confused at how idiotic this agent, that had been taking down his army, could be.

I then regained my shields and started inking the turf now that the funnels were gone.

Octavio, angered, shot a double-spinning punch at me, only for it to be dodged. So, Octavio shot out more takoyaki.

Azazel: Careful now! If you keep using them back-to-back, it's gonna get stale!

RaveDogg: Quality content, ladies and gentlemen. I'll be here all week.

I shot as much of the takoyaki as I could, then took out a couple punches, making sure to not get hit by them this time.

DJ Octavio: GRAAAHK!

Marie: Agent 4! I'll be there soon. Hold out just a little longer!

Azazel: Copy!

I said this as I was dodging another ink-shower.

A bit more dodging then...

Marie: Another Bomb Rush!

Except this time, they were suction bombs.

Azazel: Damn! What kind of role do those glasses have?!

I dodged them then took out two more punches for Octavio to fall out again.

Marie: Octavio's down! It's all you, Agent 4!

So, of course, I splatted Octavio again, for him to once again land into the Octobot.

Azazel: Fuck! Guess I really am a bad shot.

Suddenly, a truck came flying in. It was Sheldon driving, and Marie was on top of it, in her stage outfit.

Marie: I'm here! Hold on!

Azazel: Sheldon! Where the hell did you get that truck?!

Marie had her charger in her hands. She took aim.

Azazel: Wait, what are you aiming fo-

Marie fired, hitting Callie right in the center of her face, hitting the glasses off too.

Callie: AHHH!

Azazel: Nice shot!

DJ Octavio: NOOOOO! The hypnoshades!

Azazel: I wonder how he thought of that name?

Callie was grasping her face, unable to open her eyes.

Marie: Yes! That was a direct hit with my low-tide ink!

Azazel: So wait, does that mean she's okay? I'm pretty sure they're labels on chargers to not hit the eyes or ears!

Sheldon: They do!

Callie: Unnhhh...

I picked up the hypnoshades that fell to my feet, and destroyed them.

Marie: Now, Agent 4! While Callie is stunned! Make DJ Octavio pay!

Azazel: You got it!

DJ Octavio: Time to turn the tables! Spicy speed mode!

Azazel: This is about to get a whole lot more interesting.

DJ Octavio: Well... yeah. (Wait, I recognize him from somewhere. Those tentacles, those eyes... No, it can't be!)

The Octobot dashed out of the way, but fired a fast punch at me while doing it. I barely jumped out of the way, then splatted the fist while it was stuck into the ground.

Marie: He's fast! Watch out for his dash punch!

Azazel: Thanks for the heads-up!

More takoyaki were fired onto the area.

Marie: Agent 4, keep it up! I'm gonna sing from here!

Azazel: On it- Wait, sing?

While I was still fighting Octavio, Marie was trying to snap Callie out of it.

Marie: Wake up, Callie!

Callie: Hhhuugh...

After some more fighting, Octavio was knocked off his platform off his platform for the third time.

Marie: Octavio's down! Get him, Agent 4!

Octavio was launched back into the Octobot again.

Azazel: Is it my Hero Shot?

Callie: My... My head...

Marie: The low-tide ink is working!

Marie pulled out a tiny boom-box.

Marie: Callie! Remember! That heavenly melody!

Callie: The one and only... I... I remember... Yeah!

Callie jumped over to Sheldon's truck, and she was glowing pink while hopping over. Her outfit had changed into her "Squid Sister" outfit.

Callie and Marie were dancing in sync, and starting to sing.

Sheldon: The Squid Sisters are back!

Suddenly, a tiny drone came in with a box that dropped a big, golden weapon that looked like a fish.

Sheldon: Agent 4! I brought you a modded version of the Rainmaker! Hold down the trigger to build pressure, then release it to shoot an ink missile. All right, Agent 4. Show me what you can do with that modified Rainmaker!

DJ Octavio: Rainmaker!

The Octobot then ascended higher up.

Marie: Follow him, Agent 4! End this!

A launchpad appeared in the center of the area. And it launched me onto a rail up at the height of Octavio, with another rail to hop onto.

Azazel: You're going to pay for my father, you bastard!

DJ Octavio: Nnngh, quiet!

I was being attacked with a barrage of punches consisting of regular punches and spinning punches. I was able to deal with it fairly well, but they were fired at the same time while on the inner rail.

I tried jumping to the outer rail, but they went through the inner rail and hit me mid-jump. My back hit up against the rail, but just as I was about to fall, I caught onto it with one of my hands.

Octavio was laughing as he fired another punch at me. I aimed the Rainmaker while hanging from the rail, and fired it, hitting Octavio.

Azazel: Damn! Note to self: Don't fire the Rainmaker one-handed... That is going to hurt once this adrenaline wears off.

I climbed back onto the railing and continued fighting Octavio.

DJ Octavio: I can't... resist the groove... any longer! Damn you, Squid Sisterrrrrrrs! Damn you, Lionhearrrrrrt!

After a bit more fighting, the Octobot flipped. It was smoking and sparking before it collapsed down onto the stage.

Marie: Agent 4! Head for Octavio from the inner ride rail!

I jumped onto the inner ride rail when it came along. I rode it, and I was getting close to the end of it.

Marie: Now! Jump and hit him with the Rainmaker.

Azazel: This is for my father!

And so, I slammed the Rainmaker down onto Octavio.

DJ Octavio: ˙˙˙ʞɔɐɐɐɐɐɐɐɐlq oʇ ǝpɐɟ-ssoɹפ ˙˙˙uᴉɐƃɐ ʇoN ˙˙˙ǝnƃ

The Octobot then floated through the air, before it blew up in an explosion of purple ink.

(Outside POV)

Pearl: Y'all know what time it is!

Marina: It's Off the Hook, coming at you LIVE from Inkopolis Square!

Pearl: Check it! Here are the current Regular Battle stages!

Marina nearly fell over when she tried changing the map pictures with her records.

Pearl: Hold your seahorses, Marina! We have breaking news!

Marina: Wait... What?!

Pearl: The Great Zapfish is back? The Great Zapfish is back! Aw yeah!

Marina: I'm so happy right now! I have to get a picture of this.

The snapping of a camera could be heard.

Pearl: Hmm... For some reason I remember it being bigger than that.

Marina: Yeah, for real. Was it always that small?

Pearl: Anyways, in other news... Here are the current Regular Battle sta-

Marina, once again, nearly fell over trying to change the map pictures with her record.

Pearl: Wait! Shut it, Marina! We've got another breaking news alert!

 Marina: But I didn't say anythi-

A picture of Callie appeared on the screen.

Pearl: Holy carp! Callie's been found! Are you guys seeing this? Now that's news!

Marina: Callie is back? YAAAAAAAAAAY! I didn't know if I'd ever see her again!

Pearl: We're glad you're back, Callie. Being the best is too easy without competition!

Marina: Seriously! It takes two to make the one and only Squid Sisters!

Pearl: Yo, Marina. Let's drop a new track to celebrate!

Marina: Good idea, Pearl. I've got just the jam. This next song request comes from "Freshly Fried Boy." It's the new hit single from the Squid Sisters, Fresh Start!

(Marie's POV, back at Octo Canyon)

I made it back to Octo Canyon.

Azazel: I'm back, Marie.

Marie: Ahh, Azazel!

Azazel: I thought that I was going to die out there, but I showed that bastard how I clean house.

Marie: *Giggles* Thanks to you, both the Great Zapfish and Callie are back, and peace has returned to Inkopolis.

Azazel: I'm proud that I can help you out, Marie.

Marie: Thanks... That being said, no one except us knows what truly happened, so don't expect the city to throw you a parade or anything.

Azazel: Wouldn't dream of it.

Marie: It's like they always say: "The path of a hero is a lonely one"

Azazel: Hearing that reminds me of my father.

Marie: Oh? He must've been a great person and a proud father. I was able to confine DJ Octavio in this snow globe. I'm keeping an eye on him to make sure he stays out of trouble.

Azazel: That's what he gets.

Marie: I'm gonna slow roast him until Grandpa- I mean... Uh... Until the leader of the New Squidbeak Splatoon comes back.

Azazel: Okay then...

DJ Octavio: Let me outta here! I'm starving!

Azazel: You deserve to be locked up in here, my family would be proud to hear that I gave you the beating of a lifetime!

Marie: *chuckles* Love it. Anyway, you've really impressed me. I can't thank you enough.

Azazel: What can I say?... Also... What's that over there?

Marie: Hm? Ah, you're wondering about that? I had Sheldon put that there.

Azazel: Makes sense...

Marie: It'll allow you to listen to the latest single from the Squid Sisters, "Fresh Start", anytime you want!

Azazel: Not bad. I'll listen to it on my spare time.

Marie: *Giggles* Well, what are you going to do now?

Azazel: Well, I might as well crash onto your couch. It's still early, so I might as well get some rest.

Marie: Before you get your rest, can you come over here for a moment?

Azazel: I got time.

I walked over to Marie's usual spot.

I noticed Callie sitting down on the bench.

Azazel: Oh... hey...

Callie: Oh! Uh, hey, Agent 4... It's Callie... Remember? I tried to kill you?

Azazel: Yeah...

Callie: Yeah... Sorry about that. But I'm back on the up and up! Promise!

Azazel: ...Alrighty then. By the way, Callie, the name's Azazel.

Callie: I know! Marie always and I mean always, talks about you!

Marie had become quite embarrassed by what Callie said to me, you could tell by the blush on her face.

Marie: Callie!

Callie giggled.

Callie: In any case... The Squid Sisters and the New Squidbeak Splatoon are ready to roll!

Marie: I got to hang out here until Gramps and Agent 3 come back from... whatever it is they're doing.

Marie: Seriously, where did Gramps wander off to...

Azazel: Call it a hunch, but I think they're doing something important.

Marie: Yeah, you could be right.

Azazel: Are you sure that snow globe can handle Octavio?

Callie: Of course! That snow globe might not look like much, but it does the job!

Azazel: Then why do I see cracks and a band-aid holding it together?

Callie and Marie both were giving a nervous chuckle, rubbing the back of their necks.

Azazel: Now I've seen everything. Well, I'm going to go sleep on the couch.

I walked away to sleep on the couch.

Callie: So that's the new hero of Inkopolis, huh?

Marie: Yep.

Callie: I like him.

Marie: Me too.

Callie: You picked well.

Marie: Thanks.

They were both smiling, staring at their teammate... their savior... their friend.
