Chapter One -Blind Beggar-

3rd person

A girl sat alone on a bench by the street. The wing blew softly threw her (H/c) hair. Blurry (E/c) eyes starring up at the sky. Even though nothing could be seen. She didn't know what time it was, but, judging by the heat on her skin, it was around mid day. She shut her eyes, breathing in the distant smell of fresh bread. She lived in a town, a small village. It wan't much, but it was nice. She had a happy life. Her peace was interrupted by the sirens, "VILLAGE MEETING, EVERYONE MUST ATTEND, SICK OR OLD, DOESN'T MATTER!" The girl frowned, but got up, grabbing a gnarled stick she used as her eyes. Tapping it alone, she followed  the sound of rushing footsteps. Someone gently grabbed her upper arm, "Let me guide you." A kind, male voice said, possible a boy her age. She smiled, "Thank you." The boy guided her threw the crowd, taking her to the designated area, and leaving with a good bye. The girl thought about the kind boy, pushing them aside and tuning into the announcers words. "The King will now speak." Respective clapping was heard. She didn't clap, instead holding the stick close to her chest. It was gift from her mother. Nothing special, since they were poor. But it was all she had of her, for she was gone. Killed for protesting the Officials taking the father. The blind girl was left alone, left to live on the streets, left as a beggar. The King started to speak, "The yearly HungerGames will start in exactly one weak, on  the Thirty-First. As always, children above age twelve will have their names put into bowels, two will be drawn. And two will be thrown into the games. The king went on about the history, then rules. "The winner will be the last one standing, the winning district will receive a large amount of money, being distributed to each person. The winner themselves forever  living a life of luxury." He smiled, grabbing the glass bowel, "Our first lucky person is..." He pulled out a name, "Mitchell Hughes!" The crowd applauded, hope present. He was the skilled hunter. The bowman. The only person who could possibly win! "The next contestant, will be.....Y/n L/n!" No one applauded, sorrow settling in. Everyone knew Y/n. The Blind Beggar. She wouldn't last in the games. Most likely the first to die. "Please, step forward." Both did, walking forward. Y/n shrugged off any help she received, refusing to look weak. Both stood on either side of the king, who spoke, "Both will be instantly rushed away to training. May Hope always Wash away the Fears." The saying was a 'historical tradition'. Supposed to give people in war hope that the'd win. But instead, it became a horrifying saying that announced the HungerGames. The people applauded, and the two were loaded into a car. They sat beside each other, neither talking. Then, near the end, the boy, Mitch, decided to speak, "Good luck." He simply stated, as the car stopped, and the door opened. "You too." She replied, distantly thinking he sounded...familiar. The two were brought to a cafeteria, the Official briefly saying they would meet the others. Others, meaning the people trying to kill them. The girl sat alone, at least, she thought she was alone, at a table. She simply looked down, taking in the fact that out of maybe a hundred people, she, the 'Blind Beggar', was chosen. Y/n looked normal, happy even, but inside, she was just begging to scream, cry, and run away. Someone suddenly took a seat beside her. "Hi!" A cheery female voice said. "U-um...hello?" The newcomer smiled, "I heard some people saying you were blind, is that true?" Y/n nodded, showing her the gnarled stick. The girl grinned, "Don't worry, you'll be fine. My name's Jex, nice to meet you!" 'Jex, what a strange name,' Y/n thought, putting on a, fake, smile, "Y/n, nice to meet you too, Jex." The girl grinned again, "Wanna know something?" Y/n nodded halfheartedly, "That Mitch guy, everyone thinks he's hot, in a scary way. You know, the way he's cold, and alone, and strong, and-" The gasped, "What do you think about him?" The girl wanted to smack Jex, "I have no idea. If you couldn't tell, I can't SEE anything. So I don't know what he LOOKS like. WHERE he is. Or ANY thing like that." Jex smacked herself, "Oh geez, sorry. I'm honestly not good with conversations. Anyways, have you heard of anyone here?" "Nope. No idea who's here." Jex listed off everyone, twenty four in all. "Um...I think I heard of Jerome, on the  news." Y/n said, trying to remember what it was about. Jex laughed, "Oh yeah! He's the guy who took down that bear. Nothing but an ax!" "Awesome..." She mumbled, not really paying attention. "Think they'll team up, Y/n?" "Who?" "Jerome and Mitch! They're like...the strongest ones here! They could snap a crocodiles neck like a nut!" She thought about it, "Well, if they are the  strongest one's here....then, well, maybe?" "Yeah, it makes sense! They'd chop everyone's heads off!" Y/n didn't like that idea. At all. The door suddenly opened, a man walking in, "I'm the Official of this little thing. Everyone here will listen to me, will pay respect, and if anyone thinks they can stand up to me, I will NOT hesitate to slit your neck. Got it?" Everyone agreed quickly. "Good." He grinned, brushing his yellow hair out of his blue eyes, "My name is Lachlan. Any questions?" Jex shot her hand up, showing no fear. Lachlan rolled his eyes, "It's wasn't supposed to be an actual question, but what?" Jex grinned, "If you're an Official, then why are you dressed like that?" She pointed at his red hoodie and jeans, "Doesn't seem very Officially." He let out a growl, "Would you like me to get my knife? I could do that." Jex giggled, "No sir! I'm completely content with my blood staying inside me." Giggles wavered across the room, Y/n snuffling a laugh. Lachlan glared at them all, "You will all be shown to your rooms shortly. Have fun talking to the people who you'll be forced to kill." And with that, he spun around and walked out, the door slamming shut. Jex laughed in victory, "So much for mister slice your neck!" Y/n laughed this time. And soon, more and more people did as well. Jex turned back to the blind girl, "Hey Y/n, wanna be friends?" She smiled, "Sure, a friend is what everyone needs right now." Jex suddenly gasped, whispering, "Mitch is coming over here!"

This story is heavily based on the movie, but will have a different ending and plot. Jex will act as the 'guide' or helper for you. Enjoy this story, and prepare for future feels!
