| 40 | - Old Friends

It's been almost a month.

The Oasis has been surviving despite the circumstances. The Saviors have only come twice since their first visit, and Negan hasn't came since that one time. You heard about his problem with another community nearby, a problem he easily dealt with.

You were with Aasim tending the garden.

Aasim: You heard about Louis and Hana?

You: No. What is it?

Aasim: One of Hana's friends told me that they did it last night. After their date.

You simply nod.

You: Okay. I hope he had protection.

Aasim: I'm sure he did. You know how Louis is. He probably had one on him since shit first went down.

You chuckle.

You: Seriously though, people need to be careful. Rebecca's baby is almost out, which will add to the already at-capacity baby population here. Christa's only a couple months along, but still.

You honestly didn't mind if people settled down and chose to have kids at the Oasis, but you also wanted them to be smart about it. To think about the responsibility and risk of having it now.

Aasim: What happened to Alvin is fucked up, man. Growing up with a father? Will Rebecca be able to care for that kid by herself?

You finish digging with your shovel, and wipe the sweat off your forehead.

You: She won't have to worry about that. Clem and I will help her as much as we can.

Aasim smiles as he continues to dig into the earth.

Aasim: That's cool.

You nod, and continue to tend the garden. Then, your radio begins to sound.

???: Chancellor?

You grab your radio as the front gate guard speaks through out.

You: Yes?

???: Jesus is at the gate, he has a group.

You sigh. It's been a while since you've seen Jesus, but he did tell you that he'd bring you any news if something came up.

You: All right. Let them in. Tell Wyatt to bring them to the conference center.

???: Will do.

You clip the radio back onto your waist, and put the shovel down.

Aasim: New people?

You: Jesus and new people. I'm gonna see what he's up to.

Aasim: Good luck.

You nod, and begin walking to the conference center.

••

You informed Clementine of Jesus and the new group's arrival. Lee and Louis also joined you. You considered the three of them as your closest advisors at the Oasis.

Lee: Jesus brought new people?

Louis: Probably from a new community. Maybe trade partners like the Kingdom.

The Kingdom has also become close to the Oasis throughout the last month.

Lee: If they are, maybe then can help fight the Saviors.

You look at Lee.

You: Let's not bring that up right now. We're doing good so far.

Lee: Won't be long until good becomes bad, Y/N.

You look forward, ignoring his statement.

Clementine: Maybe it's just new people Jesus found that need a home.

Louis: More mouths to feed, then.

The four of you entered the building, and were making your way into the large conference room, which was the same room you were first introduced to Carver almost three months ago.

Lee entered the room first, followed by Louis, then Clementine. You entered last and closed the door behind you. You took a quick glance at the group, who mostly had their backs turned and looking around. You looked at Jesus.

Jesus: Y/N! I kept my word, and said I'd come to you if anything came up....and something did.

Jesus extended his arm at a man who had his back turned talking to a young Latina. He began to turn back around as Jesus spoke.

Jesus: This is Rick Grimes of Alexandria.

Rick Grimes?

The man fully turned around, and looked at you. The rest of the group stopped chatting and looking around as well, taking notice.

It was them.

Rick: Y/N....my god.

You: Rick....

••

Rick and his group began following Enid outside Gregory's townhouse.  He had just rejected their idea of fighting against the Saviors.

They saw a group of Hilltop residents in front by the entrance. Maggie stepped towards them to speak.

Maggie: What's going on?

A woman named Bertie stepped towards her.

Bertie: I'm Bertie, and I owe my life to you all, twice over. A bunch of us do.

Maggie nods.

Bertie: Enid says that you want Gregory to get us to fight the Saviors with you. Is that true?

Rick continues to let Maggie speak for the group.

Maggie: Yes.

Bertie: Do you think we can win? That we really could beat them? Us?

Maggie: I do.

Bertie sighs.

Bertie: Well, Enid says you could show us the way. I'm ready.

The crowd begins to speak up

Man 1: Me too.

Woman 1: Let's do it.

Man 2: Yeah.

Woman 2: I'm in.

Maggie nods. Carl looks over to Enid, and smiles.

Later, the group continues discussing the situation as they walk away from the townhouse.

Michonne: It's a start.

Sasha: We'll get more. It still won't be enough.

Rosita: No it won't.

Daryl: Well, we find the right stuff, then maybe we don't need the numbers. Just blow 'em up.

Tara: You said there wasn't just soldiers with the Saviors, that there were workers there. People didn't have a choice.

Daryl: We gotta win.

Rick: We need more hands, another group. Negan has outposts. The geography works against us, we need to head back before they start looking for Daryl.

Jesus: You won't have to go back, not yet.

Jesus shows them a radio, which belonged to a Savior. He can listen in on their whereabouts.

Michonne: So, if we're not going back, what are we doing, then?

Jesus smiles.

Jesus: I think it's time I introduce you to a couple friends of mine. Maybe they can help.

••

The SUV made it to the front of the Oasis. A guard looked at them from the tower above.

Guard: State your business!

Jesus: It's me, Jesus. A friend of the chancellor.

The guard nodded, and started talking into his radio.

Rick: Chancellor?

Jesus: It's just a name. Cool guy, though.

Rick nodded, as the gates began to open.

They drove into the Oasis, and were making their way to the conference center. They looked out their SUV windows to see citizens walking around, and soldiers patrolling.

They finally made it to the conference center, and parked the SUV. The group exited the vehicle.

Daryl: This is a big place. They sure got the numbers.

Michonne: But can they fight?

Jesus: They can fight. They're trained. Most of the soldiers here were part of the resistance that fought for the Oasis.

Carl: Resistance?

Jesus: This place used to be led by a not so great guy. People revolted, and took the place back. Made it a better one.

Rick listened in on the story.

Wyatt walked over to the group.

Wyatt: The chancellor will be here in a moment, follow me inside.

The group obliged, and entered the building, awaiting the arrival of the chancellor.
