| 4 | You'll Make It

The group begins to disperse as you grab your crowbar that sat beside you. Clementine unholstered her handgun.

Shane: Lori! Get Carl down!

He raised his shotgun and shot at the incoming walkers. Dale raised his scoped rifle as he assisted Shane.

WHACK!

A walker came close as you bashed it in the head with the crowbar. Once it fell, you brought the crowbar down at its head again and crushed it.

Another walker came from behind and was about to grab you....

BANG!

Clementine shot it.

You give a nod as you run off to take care of more walkers.

You see Carol keeping Sophia close, but then a walker starts stumbling towards them.

WHACK!

You run up and hit the walker across the head, killing it.

You: Move up to the RV!

The two of them begin to follow you, and make it to the front of camp where Shane and Morales are shielding Lori, Carl, and Morales's family.

Walkers have overrun the camp. They are everywhere.

Shane: Come on, make your way to the winnebago!

BLAM! BLAM! BLAM! BLAM!

You then hear gunshots coming from inside the camp, and it's not long until you see Rick, Glenn, T-Dog, and Daryl.

The four of them quickly start dispatching the walkers with shotguns.

Rick: Baby! Carl!

Carl: Dad!

Carl runs into his father's arms.

You look around, and see the corpses of both walkers and survivors from your camp. It was a bloodbath. You look at Clementine, who gives the same look of shock.

Moments later, you hear the cries of Andrea near the RV as she kneels over the body of Amy. Carl begins crying into the stomach of Rick as he comforts him.

Andrea begins wailing and sobbing.

Andrea: Amy! Amy!

Carol hugs Sophia. Morales's wife hugs her two children.

Jim drops his bat. He's bloodied and breathing heavily.

Jim: I remember my dream now....why I dug the holes.

••

The coming morning was a tough one. You spent most of it recovering the bodies of deceased survivors and carefully discarding carcasses of walkers. You sat near the RV as you took a break before Dale came up to you.

Dale: Hey, Y/N.

You: Hey, Dale.

Dale took out a handgun, and handed it to you.

You: What's this?

Dale: A Glock 17.

You: I meant what for?

Dale: I told you I'd get you a firearm. It's from Rick's bag of guns.

You took it from Dale's hands and held it.

You: Haven't really shot one....aside from BBs.

Dale: I'll give you some pointers when I can.

He then looks at Clementine in the distance as she's talking with Jacqui.

Dale: Or you could ask that girlfriend of yours. She seems to know her way around a gun.

You roll your eyes at Dale for his remark.

You: Dale....

He raises his hands as he begins to walk away.

Dale: I'm just saying.

You: Maybe I can graduate to that rifle of yours someday.

Dale laughs.

Dale: Worry about the damn Glock first.

You holster your new handgun onto your waistband. Daryl starts walking your way.

Daryl: Y/N, break's over. Come help with these bodies.

You nod and go over to help Daryl. You continue to help, before Jacqui gets the attention of the group by yelling something about Jim.

Jacqui: Jim's bit! A walker got him!

The group started to surround Jim.

Jim: I'm okay....I'm okay....

Daryl: Show it to us!

Jim grabs a shovel from the ground and wields it.

Shane: Somebody grab him!

T-Dog comes from behind and holds Jim, causing him to drop the shovel. Daryl pulls up Jim's shirt, revealing the bite.

Clementine: Oh god....

Jim: I'm okay. I'm okay....

••

The rest of you stood in a circle as Jim sat by the RV.

Daryl: I say we put a pickaxe in his head and the dead girl's and be done with it.

Shane: Is that what you'd want if it were you?

Daryl: Yeah, and I'd thank you while you did it.

Dale surprisingly agrees with Daryl.

Rick: Jim's not a monster, Dale, or some rabid dog. He's a sick man. We start down that road, where do we draw the line?

Daryl: The line's pretty clear. Zero tolerance for walkers....or them to be.

Rick then suggests going to the CDC, where he expects there to be help. Shane disagrees and suggests going to Fort Benning. The dispute continues until Daryl begins to act.

Daryl: You go looking for aspirin, do what you need to do. Someone needs to have some balls to take care of this damn problem!

Daryl starts running up to Jim wielding his pickaxe. Rick follows right behind and aims his revolver at Daryl's head.

Rick: We don't kill the living.

Daryl looks back at Rick and lowers his weapon.

Daryl: That's funny coming from a man who just put a gun to my head.

Shane tells Daryl to drop his pickaxe, and escorts him away. Rick helps Jim up, and takes him inside the RV.

••

The plan was settled. The group was going to the CDC. You were surprised Shane ended up agreeing with Rick after all. Shane told you they were going to leave first thing in the morning, so you took the remaining time of the day to ask Clementine for some firearm tips.

The two of you were up on the hill were you had just finished burying the dead.

Clementine: Remember, it's just a thing.

You: Uh....duh. I know that.

You begin to aim at a tree.

Clementine: You squeeze the trigger, don't pull.

She adjusts your arms as you aim.

You: Okay. Good tip.

Clementine: Now....just aim and fire.

You look through the notch of the gun.

BLAM!

You shoot at the painted area. You hit right in the middle.

You: Wow. I must be related to Clint Eastwood.

Clementine: Don't gas yourself up, dork. Try again.

BLAM!

You shoot, this time it was off.

BLAM!

You shoot once more and it hits the middle again.

Clementine: Okay....not bad.

You lower your gun.

You: Where'd you learn to shoot?

Clementine: My dad. He was a firearms fanatic. The gun I have right now is actually his.

You nod.

You: Cool....he taught you well.

There's some silence, until Clementine speaks up.

Clementine: It's getting dark, we should get going. I'll give you more of my firearm wisdom as the days go by.

You smile, and walk back to camp with her.

••

It was morning, and it was time to leave. Unfortunately, Morales and his family decided to leave for Birmingham. You bid them farewell, and the group was off to the CDC. You and Clementine were in the station wagon with T-Dog and Andrea.

The group drove for a while until Dale stopped his RV to inspect it.

Dale: I told you I needed the hose from the cube van. This thing's shot.

Rick rubbed his head as he began to think. Then Jacqui came out of the RV. She explained Jim's situation, and it was getting worse.

After a while, Jim came to the decision of the group leaving him. He felt as if he was going to be dead weight.

Rick and Shane carried Jim to a tree, and asked him if he was sure about his decision. He was.

The group took time to bid him farewell, and then it was your turn.

Jim: Hey, son.

You: Hey, Jim.

Jim: Again....sorry about that bump to the head.

You: Hey....it's fine. Scars are cool.

Jim weakly chuckles.

Jim: You're a strong kid, Y/N. You'll make it.

You nod, and pat him on the shoulder.

You: Thank you, Jim.

You get up, and walk away with the rest of the group.

••

There it was....the CDC.

You exited the station wagon with your pistol in hand. The streets consisted of the bodies of citizens and soldiers, and the smell was awful.

There was a sea of rotting corpses as you walked through the courtyard of the building, but you made it to shutters at the front of the CDC.

Shane began pounding on the door.

T-Dog: There's nobody here.

Rick: Then why are these shutters down?

Daryl: Walkers!

You look back and see walkers coming your way.

THWICK!

Daryl shoots one between the eyes of a walker.

Daryl: You lead us into a graveyard!

Daryl begins to walk up to Rick. Shane steps in front of him.

Shane: Not now!

Shane looks back at Rick, telling him it's a dead end and suggests Fort Benning.

Shane: Come on, Rick. Let's go!

The group begins to leave, but Rick stops you.

Rick: The camera. It moved.

Dale: You're imagining things.

Rick: No, it moved.

Shane: Rick, it's dead, man.

Rick begins to pound at the shutters.

Rick: I know you're in there! I know that you can hear me!

You see that Carl and Sophia are crying, you want Rick to keep moving like Shane said.

You: Rick! There's nobody in there!

Rick: Please! We're desperate! Please help us! We have women, children, no food, hardly any gas left!

Lori runs up and begins talking to Rick.

Shane: Y/N! Watch your left!

You see walkers coming from that direction, and begin aiming your gun.

Glenn: Watch your side, Clem!

Rick then begins yelling as Shane pulls him back.

Rick: You're killing us! You're killing us!

The group is about to retreat back to the cars, but the shutters open, and bright light emits from within....
