| 22 | - Fractures Within

It was a flu.

Not the normal flu that went away after a few days, but a different strain. A deadlier strain. It killed Patrick and he turned, where he then attacked the cell block.

The council, which included you, decided it'd be best to start isolating people so you can treat them. You also wanted to keep others safe, especially Judith.

Rick also killed the pigs. Violet had been sick, most likely from the same sickness. Rick didn't want to take that chance. You didn't want to take that chance.

Now you had another problem. Karen, Tyreese's girlfriend, was found killed and burned. His friend, David, was also found the same way.

You were with Tyreese, Rick, Daryl, and Carol as you stood in front of the charred bodies.

Rick: So you found them like this?

Tyreese: I came to see Karen....and I saw the blood on the floor. Then I smelled them.

Tyreese started getting furious.

Tyreese: Somebody dragged them out here and set them on fire! They killed them and set them on fire!

Tyreese then turned to Rick, face inches away from his. You and Daryl stood idly by in case it got physical.

Tyreese: You're a cop. You find out who did this and you bring 'em to me. You understand? You bring 'em to me.

Daryl: We'll find out who—

Daryl tries to pull Tyreese back, but he pushes him away.

Rick: I know what you're feeling. I've been there. You saw me there. It's dangerous.

Tyreese: Karen didn't deserve this! David didn't deserve it! Nobody does!

Daryl: All right, man, let's—

Daryl once again tries to pull back Tyreese, but he turns around and pins Daryl to the wall.

Tyreese: Man, I ain't going nowhere till I find out who did this!

You are about to intervene, but Daryl waves you off.

Daryl: We're on the same side, man.

Rick: Hey, look, I know what you're going through. We've all lost someone. We know what you're going through right now, but you've got to calm down.

Tyreese lets go of Daryl and shoves Rick.

Tyreese: You need to step the hell back!

Rick: She wouldn't want you being like this.

Without hesitation, Tyreese swung and punched Rick across his face, almost sending him to the floor.

Carol: Stop! Stop!

Tyreese punches Rick again. Daryl grabs onto Tyreese from behind, and holds him.

Daryl: That's enough! That's enough!

As Daryl is holding Tyreese, Rick quickly gets up and lands a hook across his jaw. Tyreese falls to the ground. Rick then kicks him in the stomach while he's down. Rick then continues to punch him across the face in a rage.

You: Rick!

You go up to Rick and grab him.

You: Rick, stop!

Rick: Let go of me!

You pull him away from Tyreese.

You: No. No.

Rick: Let go of me!

Rick pushes you away. You look at Tyreese, who's on the ground hurt and sobbing.

Rick looks at his bloody hands, then at Tyreese. He is in awe at what he's done.

••

It's only been a day, and things started to get worse. Tranquility was once again short lived. A lot more people got sick. Glenn and Sasha got sick as well, you hoped they'd get better and pull through.

Rick also told you that Carol was the one that killed Karen and David. You're probably the only one aside from him and Hershel that knows now. Inside, you feel bad for exiling Carol, but you also feel as if Rick made the right decision. It was a tough one, but a tough decision for the betterment of the community.

You are at the fence with Clementine, picking off any walkers that are piling up against the fence.

Clementine: This gets old pretty fast.

You: We should start tallying points. Whoever gets  the most has breakfast made for them by the loser.

Clementine: Oh, it's on. I'm forcing you to make me pancakes.

SULK!

You chuckle, as you stab a walker with a fire poker.

The both of you then hear distant gunfire, like the one from a couple days ago when the walkers attacked the cell block.

You: Fuck. What now?

You both start running through the path towards the prison.

••

Rick had called the both of you over. He had Carl with him. Hershel and Maggie were dealing with the situation in the cell block.

Rick: This fence isn't going to hold anymore. Too many piling up. We have to take them all down.

You both agree, and follow Rick to a crate of weapons. You grabbed an assault rifle and hand it to Carl. Rick tossed a rifle to Clementine and got one for himself. You grabbed one too.

The fence started to collapse, and walkers were beginning to pour in.

Rick began to give a quick lesson to Carl as the four of you walked.

Rick: Magazine goes in here. Release is here. Make sure it latches. Pull back the operating rod, and rounds feed up. Keep squeezing the trigger for rapid fire.

Carl: Okay.

Rick: You shoot or you run. Don't let them get close, okay.

Carl nods. Rick looks at you.

Rick: Let's go.

The walkers started coming near.

BRAKAKAKA!

Carl shot at one with his assault rifle.

BRAKAKAKA!

You shot one too.

BRAKAKAKA!

Rick took care of two.

BRAKAKAKA!

Clementine dispatched a couple herself.

You all continued to fire, the gunshots rattling and echoing. The amount of walkers were dwindling.

Rick: Back up!

You all took a few steps back, and continued to fire.

BRAKAKAKA!

BRAKAKAKA!

After some time, the horde was dealt with. You look at Carl.

You: Phew. Nice shooting, Carl.

Carl nodded, and the four of you went over to check on the bodies. Rick and you began to stab into walkers who were still alive.

SULK!

SULK!

Clementine and Carl took care of any near the fence.

••

The next morning was spent taking care of any bodies and reinforcing the fence. You were helping Daryl and Tyreese, and the three of you drove up to the courtyard to take a break. You exited the SUV and met with Hershel.

Tyreese: How's Glenn doing?

Hershel: He made it through the night. He's breathing on his own now. Maggie and Bob are with him. He seems stable enough for me to get some air.

You were glad Glenn was okay. You got to see him earlier in the morning, and he was happy to see you too.

Daryl: He's one tough son of a bitch.

Hershel: He is.

Daryl: You're a tough son of a bitch.

You chuckle at his remark.

Hershel: I am.

He begins to walk away.

Daryl: How about Carol? She up in A block with Lizzy?

Hershel: No. Talk to Rick about her.

You look down and stay quiet.

Daryl looks at him in confusion.

Hershel: She's okay, just talk to him.

Hershel then continues walking.

Daryl looks at you, and you simply shrug. You then follow Daryl into the building.
