CHAPTER TEN
Tory's POV
I was waiting, waiting for him. I didn't know how to feel. A few cuts and bruises didn't hurt me. Even though the big cut in my right cheek was burning. "Tory, where's Garrett?" I heard Aria ask, "I don't know." I said, "We are all gonna die together." She sobbed, "you said that last time, we didn't die." "Our luck has ran out." Zaiden groaned, "there's nothing to live for anyways." Maryam's faint voice mumbled, "what are you talking about?" I was confused, was she talking about her breakup? "My life isn't worth living." She continued, "Well, let's see what god has in store for you." I was drained from being in this box for so long. I felt like I was waiting for nothing. Where is Hayden? I sigh out and a grunt sounded by the metal door. "Hayden!" I hear everyone outside yell, "Shush!" He hushed, "where's the bitch?" He breathed heavily, "I'm right here." Garrett's voice said, "Oh shit," I sounded, I hear heavy breathing and the door to my cage. "Where are the police?" Garrett slowly cornered Hayden, "I take the chair I was sitting on and threw it at him with so much force. He groaned in pain. Aria grabbed my hand and ran for the exit, there was a complicated lock attached to the keyhole. "You aren't escaping that easily." He grunted, Hayden throwing himself onto him. I was so confused and lost in my thoughts that I didn't hear the police running into the sewer. They drew their guns at Garrett, while he spat his blood on the ground and chuckled with difficulty. A few men in black suits came in and hit the two policemen in the stomach. They fell lifelessly on the ground next to me, as I stared at the police women who hesitantly shot a few times at the men. "Run!" I yelled, pushing my friends up the sewer drain, that was now open. "Another one down." Garrett kicked at Hayden, my hands fell weak. As I couldn't get back up. "I knew this would happen, luckily I didn't have intentions of killing your friends. It's just you, me, my friends and your friend now." He chuckled again, spitting out more blood onto the ground. My hands shakily grab the razor from my pocket and charge at the the men. I didn't notice where I hit them but I was fighting for my life. "Your little plans always have flaws in them. Remember that when you're older and thriving." A burning sensation ran down my thigh, my shaking hands grabbed at the fluid. Blood. "Do you have any last words?" He asked me, "No, do you?" "Those were my last." I knew he was weak, his hands were trembling but as I drew a big slash across his hand I knew that he was afraid. That his expression gave away. He couldn't fight it. I couldn't either. That is what I do for my friends, and I'm proud of it. His left hand shot at the left side of Hayden's chest. While Garrett closed his eyes I ran to Hayden's side. He was quiet for a few seconds. "Hayden, don't leave me." I cried, "I tried, I was going to leave no matter what." He said, I wiped away a few tears from his cheek, "We could've had more time." I sobbed, my cries ringing so loudly, they echoed. "I died trying," he voice got weaker than before, his hands felt cold when I reached for them. "It's fine..... you'll make it. I'll be watching you." He grinned weakly, brushing my hand gently. His eyes slowly shutting. As I gently pressed my lips to his, I felt warm for a second, feeling his warm shirt breath on my neck. The room was silent, and so was he. "I'll miss you." He whimpered, those were his last words to me. I rapidly wiped my tears away with my fingers. I kept hugging him and keeping him close to me, running my hand through his dirty blonde hair. I couldn't feel his heart beating anymore. His future was ripped from him. But I'll always remember him.
Zaiden's POV
Tory and Hayden have been down in the sewer for awhile. It felt like something was wrong, or off. When I finally saw Tory raise up from the underground I was confused. I was expecting Hayden to emerge behind her but he didn't. "Tory? Where's Hayden?" I asked immediately, "He's gone." She frowned, "What?!" "He... died." Everyone stared at her, "what do you mean, he died?" Aria question, crossing her arms. "What do you not understand?! He's gone! Okay?" She sputtered, wrapping my arms around her to calm her down, "oh shit." Tiffany said, kicking at rocks, with her head held low. A few more tears dropped down from Tory's face, so did Aria's and then mine. I lost my friend. My heart was aching I felt like I've lost my whole family. Even then, I was surrounded by my friends. Out of the corner of my eye, Maryam walked away from us. "Maryam?" Tiffany said, turning her head to face her, she didn't answer. "I have to go, guys." Jai started running after Maryam. I could only wonder what he was going to do. Hayden was my best friend for so long it's hard to see life without him. "My headache is getting worse." I grumbled, a few more tears shedding from my watery eyes. "We should get some rest." Aria suggested, "No, we—need to call the p-police. Hayden's still down there." Tory breathed, I nodded and we ran over to the pay phone, "Hayden used this, didn't he?" Aria said, "Let's just call the police, they'll handle everything." I placed the phone back on the handle and we waited.
Maryam's POV
Nothing ever goes planned. Why can't I get what I want? It's getting my nerves. I knew there was a bridge over the river. Running over there I stand dangerously close to the edge. "Maryam, what are you doing?" Jai asked, my heart beating faster whence I saw Jai staring at me. "Leave me alone." I tell him, "you told me that I was the bad person here, might as well get rid of the bad person." I said, turning back to look down at the river. "Don't." I bite my lip, stepping closer to the edge. A rock fell onto my foot, stumbling a hand catches me. "I love you." He said, kissing me passionately. "Let's go back to the others, please." Slowly, I step off from the edge, grinning. "Does this mean we're together again?!" "Yes, yes we are." His smile warmed me up, I felt happier but today has already been so eerie.
