Chapter 2: Forest of Shadows

Light filtered in through an opening in the roof of the blue tent that a young boy, 13 years in age, was sleeping in. A wave of sunlight flickered over Dippers face, waking him up. Stretching, he sat up slowly and turned his head to see that his sister Mabel had already woken.

The brunet retrieved a crimson book from underneath his pillow and placed it into a large pocket in his vest. After completing this task, he stood up, and walked outside.

The peaceful nature of the summer morning made Dipper forget the horror he saw early that morning, but soon remebered as he closed his eyes. A picture of his mutilated friend flashed his vision and Dipper shot his brown eyes open again.

"Good morning Pine Tree!" A strange voice sounded from behind the brunet and he turned around to see yellow, snake-like eyes gazing into his own. Dipper backed up in surprise and saw what the eyes belonged to. Or rather, who the eyes belonged to.

"AHH! Bill! What are you doing in my sister's body?" Dipper shouted, causing Fourrest, a tall 14 year old boy, to come running out of his own, green tent.

"DIPPER LOOK OUT! HE'S GOT A KNIFE!" The raven haired boy shouted just in time to see Dipper duck to evade a knife being swung by Babel. Thinking fast, the brown eyed boy knocked the demon's legs out from under him, crashing the yellow eyed entity to the ground.

Babel started laughing hysterically, and stood up, revealing that the knife had gotten lodged deep into his arm. The demon roughly tugged the blade out of his skin and tried another attack on the opposing boy. But before the yellow eyed freak made contact with Dipper, he was lurched away by an unseen force.

Dipper was left standing, seeing the knife that nearly killed him half way across the clearing, Babel being farther. The brunet looked around the clearing and caught a glimpse of a yellow flash in the shadows of the surrounding forest.

Fourrest ran over to the boy who was frozen solid, the hair on the back of his neck on end. "Dip, are you alright?"

Slowly, Dipper nodded, deciding on whether or not he would tell the blue eyed 14 year old standing next to him what he saw. But the boy's thoughts were interrupted by Fourrest's voice. "Did you see something?" the older boy asked.

"N-nothing! It was nothing!" Dipper stammered, fumbling with his words. Then he glanced at the seemingly unconscious figure of his possessed sister and added, "Do you think we should restrain him? Or her... whichever Babel classifies as..."

"Nah, he-she should be fine, that blow should've sent Bill flying out of Mabel's body by now." The brunet didn't look convinced, but having been possessed by the Dream Demon before, and having that been the form of getting his body back, he knew it was more likely than not. But he still felt that something was up.

About an hour had passed before Mabel started to stir. But when 'she' opened 'her' eyes, Dipper could see that Bill had never left the young brunette's body. The golden reptilian eyes were still what was filling Mabel's eye sockets.

Seeing this as well, Fourrest grabbed Babel from behind and, despite the demon's struggling, was able to pin him to a tree. Although it didn't take long for Bill to find a way to bite the black haired teen, and was able to free himself.

The yellow eyed demon whipped out a knife and held it at arms length, the tip of which slightly touching Fourrest's neck."What were you two thinking? I mean seriously, you can't just restrain a Dream Demon like that without being punished!" With that last demonic word, Babel pushed the knife in deeper, not enough to harm the teen under him, but enough to draw blood.

Fourrest whimpered, trying desperately to at least get the knife tip away from his neck, but he was unsuccessful. Dipper tried to think, not wanting his raven haired friend to die like Tonie. But the brunet saw that Babel was about to push the knife in all the way, and Dipper felt his blood turn to ice.

Without thinking clearly, the 13 year old lunged at his possessed sibling, sending the two of them into a tree, Dipper hitting the back of his head on the trunk. But before Dipper could register everything that happened, the world went dark.

Dipper was walking in the Gravity Falls forest, the familiar scenery peaceful and serene. The 13 year old continued walking down the trail to the clearing that he visited often. But instead of opening to a large open space with a small river running through, the dirt path stopped abruptly, and the world turned to shadows.

Turning in a circle to see where he was, the brunet saw a single golden light, just above his eye level, deep in the realm of darkness that surrounded the brown haired boy. The light started to fade to the distance and Dipper followed, however not by his demand. Then the golden aura flickered out completely, as if a light bulb blew its film.

Walking forward some more, Dipper came to a clearing, much like the one he was originally heading to, but was doused in shadows. In the center of this clearing, just on the shore of the river, sat a brown haired girl, about 14 of age, wearing a yellow hoodie and facing away from him.

Dipper started to approach the figure, but his first step towards her revealed blood splattered on her hoodie, and the brunet could hear crying, as well as a hushed, eerie voice saying, "Tonie, Tonie, come around. Something's lost that can't be found." repeatedly. The next step he took, the brown hair became black, singed to the point where you couldn't even tell what color it once was, and the crying became sobbing and the voice became louder.

A third step caused parts of skin and flesh to become torn off of the girl's arms and legs, revealing the bone underneath. But what was strange about this, was that the noise she was making, changed to giggling. Dipper realized who this girl was now. Tonie... It was Tonie. Hesitantly, the boy took another step towards this mutilated teen, and the surroundings changed.

The two of them were in front of a tree, Tonie was backing up from it, a scared expression on her face. But suddenly, a rope appeared out of thin air, a blue light emanating from it slightly, and created a noose, which roughly wrapped itself around Crypt's neck. The Dream Demon hybrid tried to call out for help, but her voice was lost when she was dragged by the rope up into the air.

Four words rang through the air, a raspy and demonic voice sounding them. "Pine Tree... run... NOW!"

Dipper woke to another voice entering his dream, Fourrest's voice to be exact. "Dipper, wake up! You're having a nightmare!" The brunet opened his eyes to see his companion kneeling over him, shaking the younger boy.

The brown eyed teen sat up, placing his left hand on the back of his head, but recoiled quickly as pain shot through him like a bullet. "What hit me? A ton of bricks? That's what it feels like..." Dipper groaned. Fourrest chuckled slightly.

"Not quite, more like a tree. But the tree got hit by you actually!" He chuckled, and quickly stole a glance out the window of the tent. Dipper saw the color drain from Fourrest's already pale face, and decided to look outside for himself. But the teen didn't see much before a knife came flying at him!

Before the blade made contact with the brunet's face, the older teen in the blue tent pushed him out of the way. Dipper closed his eyes and put his arm in front of his face on instinct, but only until he heard a cry from beside him.

Slowly opening his brown eyes, the brunet saw his friend lying on his side, a black handle protruding from his side, and blood pouring from the deep wound. "Fourrest!" Dipper cried out. The 13 year old slowly crawled over to the wounded black haired boy and shook as the brunet studied the taller teen.

"Fourrest! I-it's gonna be alright! I-i'll call for help!" And with that, he reached over to his blue bag and pulled out his phone. But before the boy could dial 911, a shaky hand reached out and grabbed his small wrist.

Dipper looked down at his bleeding friend. "Don't... Just don't..." Fourrest coughed up blood from the attempt to speak these words. The teens usually light blue sweater was now stained completely in a sticky, crimson liquid, and the blood puddle beneath him grew with every breath the black haired 14 year old took. Then the crippled teen whispered cryptically, "There is no end, not until he gets what he wants..." And with that, Fourrest's body gave one last shudder, and then lay still. Never to move again.
