Chapter 1: Lost in the Crypt
All was peaceful in the Gravity Falls woodland as two twins finished setting up their tent for the weekend they were going to be out camping in the familiar forest with their two friends.
The male twin, Dipper Pines, had his back up against a tree, with a large maroon journal opened on the teen's lap. He had looked through Journal 3 many times over, and knew the book cover to cover by heart. One of the friends that was camping with Dipper and his sister, Mabel, had a secret journal, Journal 4, that is far from finished, but still holds nearly as much information and mystery as 3.
All of a sudden, a blinding crimson flash caused the brunet to cover his eyes with the dark red enchiridion as it filled the clearing. As the light quickly faded, two figures were left standing in the center of the campground.
The taller figure, a raven haired boy with a long pale blue scarf, had his arm being gripped by his female counterpart. These were the friends that have been previously mentioned; Tonie Crypt, and Fourrest Wood.
Tonie released her clutch on Fourrest's arm, and walked over to the edge of the clearing, opposite that of where the Pines twins had their tent, and snapped her fingers, despite having black, fingered gloves covering her hands.
As soon as the sound started to vibrate through the air, a large green bag that rested where she used to stand, vanished, and instead, reappeared in front of the Dream Demon as a large, emerald green tent.
Closing up Journal 3 and placing it into a secret pocket that was on the inside of the navy blue zipper less vest that Dipper wore, he stood up and walked over to Tonie. "What took you two so long?" the brown eyed teen questioned.
The girl turned her head to look at him, then flicked her gaze over to Fourrest as she growled, "Yin Yang was taking forever to get ready, and that is why I had to teleport, because walking would have easily taken over an hour." Then she added after noticing the white golf cart that was parked near the tent that belonged to the twins, "And you two could've waited for us you know."
Fourrest hated being called by the nick name that Bill Cipher, a Dream Demon that all four of the teens knew well, gave to him because of a summoning circle in Journal 4. Bringing his attention to her, he snapped at Tonie. "It's not my fault that I don't have the abilities of a damn Dream Demon!" Both Mabel and Dipper looked at the fuming 14 year old. It's not that they weren't used to swearing, they live with Stanley Pines for God sake, it's just that they've never seen Fourrest get angry.
Fourrest is usually quiet and is shy. So seeing him upset like this is new. Although it didn't last for long as he cowered back, after realizing that Tonie's right, yellow eye, as well as her yellow music note hoodie, were turning a deep red. Dipper and Mabel backed up from their positions, and started moving toward their shared blue tent.
Tonie's eyes were now closed, but anger was still clearly present on her face, and in an unusually dark, dark red flash, she teleported away, far out of sight.
Several hours had passed since Tonie had teleported far away in a fit of rage, and the sun was threatening to touch the non visible horizon, which had sent the clearing into darkness not long after Tonie vanished.
Mabel was pacing around the campfire, a worried expression visible on her face. "Don't you think we should go look for her? Sh-she's been gone for quite a while now." the 13 year old brunette fretted over the disappearance of her friend more than the others had.
"Mabel," Dipper, said. "if she's not back by eight, we will go look for her." Then turning to Fourrest he added, "Speaking of which, can you do a time check?" The boy with the blue Yin Yang sweater pulled out his Galaxy Note Edge, and turned it on.
Looking up from his phone, he told Dipper, "Um Dip, you do realize that it's 8:42, right?" Dipper looked at Fourrest, then to Mabel, and finally to the shadows of the wilderness. Then he got up and ran to his and Mabel's tent, grabbed a flashlight, batteries, Journal 3, and his pine tree hat, and beckoned for the others to follow him as he stood at the edge of the clearing.
Realizing that something was needed, Dipper sprinted over to Fourrest and Tonie's tent, and looked inside, hoping to find Journal 4, but to no avail. The 13 year old then ran back to Fourrest and Mabel and lead them to a hidden trail that wasn't far.
The trio had been following the trail for hours before it came to an abrupt stop. A few feet from the end of the road, stood a large tree. But Dipper got a bad feeling about the tree as he carefully stepped around it's roots, to go to the other side. His flashlight hadn't been turned on yet, so he was basically walking blind in the pitch black darkness.
The teen suddenly saw a red flash, and something large fell right in front of him, nearly crushing the young boy. Shuffling was heard as he searched his pockets for the small, black flashlight, and when he found it, he turned it on. But what Dipper saw, was not what he was hoping for.
What was standing in front of him, was the mutilated, yet 'living' body of Tonie Crypt. The red flash, was her burning the rope that tightly hugged her neck, freeing her from the hanging tree.
In a raspy and demonic voice, the mutilated Tonie heaved out four words. "Pine Tree... run... NOW!"
Dipper gladly obliged and dropped his torch as he scrambled to get away from the thing that was Tonie. Without his flashlight once more, he was running blind until he ran into his sister Mabel, sending them both crashing to the ground.
Mabel looked in Dipper's direction, who was breathing heavily. "What is it? What did you see Dipper?" Fourrest asked, helping the twins up. Dipper didn't reply, just heaved, "We need to go!" and ran off in the direction of the trail, with Fourrest following, dragging Mabel with.
They kept running until smoke could be scented, and the light of a fire could be seen ahead. As the three teens burst into the clearing, Fourrest dragged Dipper and Mabel over to the twins' tent, and demanded Dipper to tell what he saw.
With a nervous and scared expression visible on his now pale face, Dipper blurted out what he saw. "It was Tonie! B-but she was-" he thought of what to call it, for she wasn't dead, but he didn't think she was exactly alive either. "horrific." He couldn't come up with a better word to describe it as, so the brunet just went with that.
"What do you mean, 'It was Tonie'? Why didn't you bring her back with you? Wh-" Dipper cut Mabel off before she could ask too many more questions.
"She is no longer Tonie! That's what I'm saying! She looked horrible! Her skin was torn to the point where I could see the bone, and her brown eye is now completely black! And not only that, but she was hanging in that tree! But she burned the rope enough for her to come down, and told me to run! She said exactly this, 'Pine Tree... run... NOW!'"
Now that Dipper thought about it, he had seen something about a Hanging Tree in Journal 3. Grabbing the book, he flipped through it's pages until they landed on one titled The Hanging Tree.
"I knew I saw it somewhere! Listen to this! 'The Hanging Tree; legend has it that this tree was once used during the time when the Witch trials were going on, and was commonly used for hanging the guilty foreigners!'" Dipper looked up from the book and saw Fourrest and Mabel's shocked faces. He continued after clearing his throat. "It also says that to approach it, will cause unnecessary death and strange things to occur! And get this, once a man was hung here, not for being a witch, but for being a serial murderer! And his ghost is said to haunt the area, continuing his murder spree on unsuspecting passerby's!"
Mabel started to look sick, but suggested, "Do you think that the murderer killed Tonie?" Dipper shook his head, pointing to a picture that showed a man wielding a Bowie knife.
"The knife was his murder weapon, not noose." He answered. But could understand where she was going with that. Pulling out his black light, Dipper scanned the page for anything else, and came across the words which the teen read aloud, "Guys, it says... 'Will end all sanity, and start the Depravity.' You do know what depravity means right?"
Mabel shook her head whilst Fourrest answered verbally. "Depravity means to be corrupted, or the corruption." Dipper gave a curt nod.
"Do you know what this means?" he quizzed, and when Mabel unsurely shook her head again, he finished with, "The corruption has come..."
