tiny reward
"Miss..."
"Miss?"
Jimin was awakened from her sleep, still sitting on the chair just outside the wards. Her eyes blinked, trying to get a hold of herself from her deprived state, slowly lifted up her head only to realize that a nurse was looking at her with a confused expression.
"Oh. I'm sorry. Yes?", Jimin rubbed her sleepy eyes with the back of her hands, trying so hard to hide her embarrassment from falling asleep in such an open hallway. Jimin bet her sleepy face might be ugly. Did she drool? That might be more embarrassing.
"Aren't you the guardian of the patient named Kim Minjeong?", the nurse asked and Jimin answered her with her tiny nods. "Yes, I am".
"Uhm... Actually, patient Kim Minjeong was already discharged a few minutes ago. Didn't she tell you?", the nurse said, startled Jimin with the sudden fact, "E-Excuse me?".
"I was shocked too when I saw that you are still here, while the patient already discharged all by herself", the nurse continued, flashing Jimin her sorry expression. Jimin rolled her eyes, sighing in disappointment that Minjeong didn't even bother to tell her or wake her up before leaving. The blonde quietly stood up from her seat, saying her thanks to the nurse.
"How dare she leave without saying anything..."
*****
Minjeong tried to have her peaceful rest, lying on the sofa in the living room while staring blankly at the ceiling fan spinning in consistent rings. She doesn't know why, but loneliness hits her so hard at the moment.
She scrolled down her phone, trying to find any amusing things to see, resulting in boring news and articles. She sighed deeply, before the phone accidentally slipped from her hand, hitting her face, exactly on her cheeks.
Gosh, that's hurt a lot. It is even more hurtful when the fact that she actually cracks her cheekbone from the fistfight. But, she didn't dare to tell Jimin. The secret is safe, only between her and the doctor.
She tossed her phone to her side annoyingly, covering her eyes with her arms, trying to have at least a light sleep, not until suddenly the bells on the front door rang.
Then, she heard knocks.
"Who is that?", Minjeong asked, not shouting but loud enough for the person outside that door to hear her. She didn't even move an inch from the sofa, still in her lying position.
"It's me, Jimin! Open the door, Kim Minjeong!", Jimin's clear deep voice made Minjeong sigh heavily, finally standing up from the sofa before she walked towards the front door, almost looking like she dragging her feet. She opened the front door with the view of Jimin in her furrowed brows, annoyed, and maybe slightly angry.
"Huh. Aren't you supposed to stay at the rented apartment today? What are you doing here?", Minjeong asked while looking at Jimin with her emotionless gaze. Her question only makes Jimin more annoyed than ever, rolling her eyes followed by a loud light scoff.
"Well, I need to take care of someone's wife who apparently ran away from the hospital secretly without telling her wife! Gosh...", Jimin just forced herself to walk through Minjeong inside the house and headed straight towards the kitchen. Minjeong closed the door without a word and walked towards the sofa again to have her not-so-peaceful rest.
"Why did you discharge without even telling me? Do you have a death wish?", Jimin squinted her eyes, roaming her hands inside the fridge at the kitchen to find something for her to cook with.
"You could leave me alone tho. I didn't need anyone to take care of me", Minjeong said from the living room, scrolling her phone quietly.
Jimin placed some of the ingredients she pulled out from the fridge on the dining table before she walked toward her wife. "No. You need to tell me. Because, why?", she standing right in front of Minjeong with her 'Minjeong, please. I'm tired of you being so stubborn!' face.
"First of all, you are sick. Second, I'm not letting you out of this house, partying and clubbing in this condition. Third, to prevent anyone I don't know from entering the house and warming the sexual engine in you. Fourth, because I'm your wife and it's my responsibility to take care of you", Jimin pointed her finger toward Minjeong with her every word.
Minjeong didn't give any answer at all. She didn't say whether she agreed or not. "I want to have some rest. Don't disturb me...", she said while closing her eyes.
"Fine. I'm gonna make you dinner", Jimin rolled her eyes and then walked toward the kitchen. Tonight, Jimin going to make sure that she takes care of both Minjeong's health and actions.
*****
It's almost 8 at night and Minjeong already headed to her bedroom, saying that she needs more rest. Jimin tried to understand but why not? Minjeong was just beaten up to death, staying at the hospital for a night, her body still aching and hurting here and there so she really needed a lot of rest.
Actually, there are a lot of things Jimin has wanted to ask Minjeong over the past 5 days. Did she go to the club? Did she drink that much? Did she do that with someone? Jimin always wonders if her rules going to work on her wife, at least to fix a bit of that sex thirst and alcoholic maniac syndrome.
But, knowing that she saw what was there on Minjeong's body yesterday, she didn't want to ask it anymore even tho she was curious to death. Also, since Minjeong was sick, Jimin decided to just ignore her curiosity and anger for a moment. She knows that this time, Minjeong needs someone by her side, better than anyone.
Jimin headed up to Minjeong's room with a tray, a glass of water, and some medicine the doctor prescribed. She knocked on the door twice, before she twisted the doorknob gently and entered the room. She then saw her wife lying down on her bed, both eyes were closed tight but Jimin wasn't sure if she was asleep or not.
"Minjeong. Hey... Get up, eat your meds, Jimin said softly, putting the tray on the nightstand right next to the bed. Soft hands tapped gently on Minjeong's shoulder before a soft humming from the younger girl brought a small smile to Jimin's face.
Minjeong opened her eyes slowly, getting up to sit on the bed before she took the medicine from Jimin's hand and silently gulped it down with the water Jimin gave her. Then, she quickly goes back to bed without saying anything.
Jimin put the empty glass back on the tray, sitting at the side of her wife's bed with a confused expression.
"Why is she so quiet since yesterday?"
"I'm still gonna be here tomorrow. I'm skipping my classes for tomorrow to take care of you, so you don't need to ask me to leave the house, because I will not", Jimin picked the tray up and started to walk away, but her actions stopped when Minjeong suddenly called her.
"Jimin..."
"Yeah, why- Jimin? D-Did you just call me... by my name?", Jimin was extremely shocked by Minjeong's words, just because after a lot of banters and fights with the younger girl, she always called her with bad names, Jimin could list all of them. Rubbish, orphan, fool, stupid. Jimin knew Minjeong a lot better than anyone else, and she only called people by their names when she was on good terms with them.
Does that mean, they are good now? The thoughts already could skip a beat to Jimin's heart. Minjeong's next word surprised Jimin even more.
"Thank you..."
It is so short.
That short word made Jimin's heart flutter out of the blue.
Jimin blinked her eyes a few times, gulping down her saliva. Minjeong said that with her eyes closed, like nothing had happened. She looks calm right now, not even a single sign of disgust or annoyance on her face.
Unlike Jimin, who starts to mess up as her world spins around.
"O-Oh. Okay. N-Not a problem...", Jimin stuttered.
Flustered, Jimin rushed herself out of the bedroom, closed the door shut, and then leaned her back on the wall outside the room, taking a few deep breaths for a few moments. Her palms cupped her cheeks in disbelief, eyes blinking in amazement and bliss.
"What... was that just now? She just called me... by my name?", Jimin scoffed between her giddiness. "I couldn't believe it. She just called me by my name!", her eyes keeps blinking, still finding it weird and unbelievable for Minjeong to call her name properly again.
Between that slow screech of happiness from Jimin that Minjeong somehow could hear from the inside, even for a little bit, Minjeong couldn't help but flash her tiny smile, trying to drive herself to dreamland.
*****
Minjeong was awakened from her sleep when the alarm on her phone started ringing. The clock on the screen shows it's already 10 in the morning, not too early but not too late for her to wake up.
Minjeong walked downstairs to see Jimin in the kitchen, cooking something Minjeong didn't know. When she could hear the footsteps from the stairs, Jimin turned her head towards Minjeong's direction and invited the younger girl to eat her late breakfast.
"Come. Have a sit", Jimin said as she put two plates of fried rice on the dining table. That made Minjeong realize that Jimin hadn't eaten yet since morning.
"You haven't eaten anything yet?", Minjeong asked and Jimin just nodded her head. "What time did you wake up?", Minjeong asked again while taking her seat at the dining table.
"Eight. Why?", Jimin sat on the empty chair across Minjeong's quietly, putting a spoon on each of their plates.
"Then why aren't you eating when you wake up early?"
"Wouldn't it be nice to have breakfast together? So, I decided to wait for you and eat together with you. Simple", Jimin answered while smiling lightly, playing with the spoon in her hand, avoiding any eye contact with Minjeong.
"I see", Minjeong answered and took a spoonful of fried rice cooked by her wife inside her mouth, almost the same time as Jimin eating her late breakfast silently.
A few minutes of silent eating passed, and they were almost finished with their food when suddenly Minjeong started to break the ice. "I didn't do it...", she claims.
"Do what?", Jimin asked back with a confused expression.
"I didn't do that. I didn't have sex with someone while you were gone. Someone did that to me while I was drunk, and I didn't remember anything...", Minjeong answered with a low sigh, taking the final spoon of rice inside her mouth quietly with her head down on the plate.
"O-Oh. Okay...", hearing that topic made Jimin's mood slightly changed. She really didn't like to talk about that, or even hear any topic related to Minjeong having sex with random people. Every time the topic was presented, Jimin couldn't help from feeling her heart breaking inside.
Minjeong's plate was finally empty as she put down the spoon gently. She tilts her head, staring at Jimin, before she goes closer, bending her body further, trying to have a good look at Jimin's expression. She can see it. The mood changes from Yu Jimin.
"I said I didn't do it. Stop being angry over that", Minjeong said with her expressionless eyes, looking at Jimin who slowly lifted up her head, facing Minjeong.
"I... I-I wasn't angry!", Jimin said, stuttering.
"Then?"
"Never mind. You won't understand even if I tell you", Jimin stood up from her seat, took the empty plate of hers and Minjeong's before she headed to the sink quietly, trying her best not to feel touche with the topic.
As she cleaned the dishes silently, Minjeong keep looking at Jimin from the dining table in curiosity. If Jimin wasn't angry, then why did she make that sulky face? Why did her brows furrow? Why do her eyes seem sad? Minjeong thought inside her mind.
"I said I didn't do it with anyone when you're gone", Minjeong said while watching Jimin's back.
"How can I trust your words? After everything you've done for the past few years?", Jimin scoffed silently, still washing the dishes.
"I don't know how to prove it. But- I really didn't do it", Minjeong said her words stronger this time followed by a heavy sigh. Minjeong thought that Jimin was still feeling down even with her clear statement, not knowing that Jimin actually trying so hard to hide that tiny thin line smile on her face.
"Did she? Did Minjeong really try to follow my rules?", Jimin thought inside her mind happily, but she tried to control the happy expression before she turned around, acting serious again. "Then why are you telling me this?", Jimin asked.
"Well... I...", Minjeong scratched her neck, looking to the left. "I-I..."
"You what? You want your reward?", Jimin chuckled, making Minjeong startled to death. She didn't want to admit Jimin's statement, but that's the truth. Minjeong want to kiss that lips again, so badly.
"You got drunk two days ago. So there's no reward for you", Jimin said, finally finishing cleaning the dishes and heading back towards the dining table, standing beside it while looking at Minjeong calmly with both arms in front of her chest. One brow lifted, enjoying looking into Minjeong's flustered state.
"B-But you said- If I can hold myself for a day, I can-"
"Stand up", Minjeong's words were cut off when suddenly Jimin instructed her. Despite being deeply confused, Minjeong did as she was told to, standing up from the chair, facing Jimin's curious gaze.
Minjeong froze at how Jimin slowly walked closer and closer to her. She thought Jimin might be mad at her again because somehow, she broke some of those rules. She got drunk. She goes to the club. She still breaking the rules.
"Close your eyes", Jimin added with her flat deep voice.
"Why?"
"Come on, just- Close your eyes or I'm really going to be mad, Kim Minjeong", Jimin sighed.
Confused, Minjeong slowly closed her eyes even tho she didn't want to. Strange, right? Since when did Kim Minjeong suddenly become so obedient to Jimin's order? She used to fight her all the time, but why is she so obedient now? Is it because of those hilarious rules? Or because Minjeong was being grateful? Or because-
Minjeong eyes had never been as wide as she was right now.
Jimin's lips were soft on Minjeong's forehead. Minjeong needs to blink her eyes a few times, trying to convince her mind that this is a real situation. It took Jimin about 5 seconds before she pulled away, gazing warmly into Minjeong's flustered eyes with her thin, beautiful smile.
"That's the reward for being truthful. You are breaking some of the rules, I know. So your reward wasn't going to be big this time. Also, for not yelling at me for a few days", Jimin smiled one last time, hands clutched behind her back before she walked away, upstairs, entered the guest room, and closed the door shut.
Minjeong is still frozen in her place, standing right next to the dining table. Her eyes still widen and her hand starts to touch the area where Jimin just planted a five-second peck on her forehead.
"I feel weird...", Minjeong's stomach twisted.
*****
The next day.
Minjeong and Jimin again separated for college and their individual class activities. Both acting normally on campus. Jimin with her friends, Ningning and Aeri, while Minjeong with some crazy guys and booty girls who always trying to chase her for their own satisfaction.
The exam weeks were just around the corner, leaving only a week for them to study and submit their last task and assignments for a better carry mark. Like other usual classes, Jimin was assigned by her lecturer for their last assignment before the examination started.
Students were divided into pairs, and unluckily Jimin and Aeri were not meant to be together. Aeri is with a girl named Yeji while Jimin is with a guy named Jaeho. Hwang Yeji was well known as a great and excellent student in doing assignments, but not for Park Jaeho. He always has a bad reputation in his studies.
"Urgh... I guess fate playing with me right now...", Jimin rolled her eyes, ignoring the guy beside him who tried his best to catch Jimin's attention with his weird way of introduction.
"Hey. You are Jimin, right? Nice meeting you! I'm Park Jaeho. Your nicest partner, ever", he tried to shake hands with Jimin, smiling happily, while Jimin couldn't brush away that awkward feelings for him. "Uhm... I'm Yu Jimin? Nice to meet you too, I guess...?", she could only fake her smile.
