Midnight Conversation with Olga
Sarah, After Dark: First of all, can you tell us a bit about yourself on your days off of wattpad?
Olga: Glad to tell you all about myself.
I was born in Moscow, Russia. I always was very attached to literature from my younger years and my dream was to share my creation with a lot of people. I like to read romance, especially dark romance where the story touches close to real life and make readers sympathize with the book's heroes.
Such genre inspired me to write my first dark romance novel, "FATEFUL ITALIAN PASSION," which was published in August 2017. It was the hardest and the most emotional work of my life. But I am happy that I wrote it and I am totally satisfied with it. It's my favorite work unto which I dedicated my heart and soul.
Now I am working on the continuation of my first novel, "FATEFUL ITALIAN PASSION" and am also planning to publish the dark novel, "CLUB DRUNKEN CHERRY" in 2018. My book, "HOT SHORT STORIES," recently came out on Amazon on November 30 2017. I have a lot of projects planned for the future. So, stay tuned for more releases on my Amazon page.
My book FIP has won the NaNoWriMo 2015 and won the 5th place in The Best 20 novels list on writer's social site - Inkitt 2016.
In my free time, I like to listen to music or watch movies, play the piano, read books and enjoy walking in the forests which especially inspires me to write. It's a big inspiration for creativity and originality and the source that gives me the best ideas of what to write. I also enjoy traveling around the world because any new place makes me fantasize and create new plots for my upcoming books. I am really passionate about my works and plan to create a lot of stories in different genres like Teen Fiction or maybe even a thriller.
Sarah, After Dark: Sorry, but what I mean is we would like to know about who you are when you are not online as a wattpad author.
In general, we would like to know who you are when you're not writing. That's what I mean. Sorry for this misunderstanding.
Olga: Oh, got it. I am an accountant. I work in companies. It's really boring. I don't think readers would want to know what I do for a living. Anyway, they wouldn't want to know what balance, debit and credit means and how to pay taxes. Lol.
Sarah, After Dark: Lol. You're funny. xD So, you're an accountant. That's good for you. I must say as I don't understand those balance other than what I learned in high school. xD
First of all, before we go too deep in CDC, I'm curious about how did you come out with such an eye catching title Club Drunken Cherry?
Olga: Lol, thank you :D
That's okay. I can teach you if you want :D
Well, to be honest, I once heard the name of this drink and I suppose it remained on my mind until I realized one day that it fit perfectly for my next book. I thought about how people use this drink for pleasure, for dark deeds, ending up in their downfall. I thought the name could convey to people the main point of this book- how people are ready to use others for their own pleasures when the desire for money and lust blind their eyes and they don't think about anything else because they have already lost their souls.
Sarah, After Dark: Thanks for offering xD I'll remember this once I think I'm stuck with my taxes. xD
Wow. what a good analogy. *applause* I don't know that's the exact meaning of drunken cherry. Thanks for the information ^^
Is there any scene inside the book that makes you emotionally felt connected with? If there's one or two or few, what is it? And why you feel emotionally connected by those scenes?
Olga: You are welcome :) Okay :D
I hope I can help. :D
Well, the most emotional scene for me was when Kyle saw the dream about himself in young ages. His dad was cruel to him and hit him hard even Kyle begged him to stop. It was so hard for me to write about that, it was just like I felt his pain. Thank God, I never experienced that in my own life but I always thought about kids who felt that. Well, in another way this scene was some kind of opening the life of a close person that I knew but this person is passed away. I really was terrified to know that people can do it with own child like they hadn't ever any heart or soul. I was really sad about that and still, I am because homey cruelness still is the main theme of psychological problems with kids.
Another scene that was really emotional as well - when Mr Grave made Kyle hit Violet. Of course, some people can think that Kyle is a monster and he did it because he is a coward but if they were in his place they could understand what hard choice he made when he realized that no one will help him if he does opposite what people wanted from him. Yes, it was not a good choice as well but Kyle has a reason to behave like that. Because if he resisted Mr. Grave, I am sure he could be kicked out of the club and Violet could stay alone, without his help. People mostly time think by heart, but sometimes a person must choose mind's side to see what is right at that special moment.
But I can tell you honestly, all scenes are emotional for me, especially if they describe relationships between parents and kids. I really love the scene when Kyle meets his mom. It's so touching that I think no one could be indifferent at that moment.
Sarah, After Dark: Yes, I can imagine that.
If I were ever Kyle. I may be in an emotional wreck. No matter how long I've separated from my mom.
Now you make me miss my mom even more when in reality I see her every day.
Anyway we'd love to know more about the mastermind at work behind Club Drunken Cherry and how you got into writing? When did you find the 'I want to write' moment? And why that moment made you want to write?
Olga: Agreed. It's really hard, dear. Because parents are the dearest and our cherished happiness we have.
I always miss my parents even we sit in different rooms. This is how a kid feels like when he wants the warmth from his parents. We must always be attentive to them because no one except them will love us as much as they do.
I also want to know that. hahaha.
Well, the first scene in the club, I wrote for my book "HOT SHORT STORIES." I never thought that I would write a book. But I asked my readers if they would want to read my book if I start writing CDC. And most of them said- OF COURSE!
That's how I started my journey. When I wrote the first scene, I already knew what I would write in the second. And it went on until I got stuck. It happens to even talented writers because it means they need to stop and take a breathe. They need to think about how to write a new scene and not repeat it. I reread a lot of times before I publish on Radish and then on Wattpad. My editor helps me in finding really unique words so as to not repeat the previous thoughts. It's a really hard job to be a writer, especially in Romance genre because there aren't many words to describe romantic emotions, so you have to discover something that would catch the readers' eye. I don't follow the pattern of simply writing 2000 words every day. Because then, your writing is nothing but a boring business. I don't wish to see my writing that way, I like it to be refreshing everyday.
Honestly, the hard influence for my book was the famous series from one of the bestselling Dark Romance Writers who also has an account on Wattpad - Pepper Winters. I love her series, Debt Inheritance, and after reading it, the thought about creating my own dark story was stuck in my mind. I couldn't get rid of it until I started it as a short story. And then, as you can see, I almost wrote the whole novel. I am glad I did it and plan to finish it soon. My book release is planned for the next year, in winter. Hope you are all ready for it. ;)
Also, I have a really interesting free giveaway for people who want to read my book, "Hot Short Stories", which will come out soon. But they must have an Amazon account and also be ready to buy my first book, FIP. :)
Sarah, After Dark: Lol.. xD your answer is so funny. xD
I mean the 'Awesome I also want to know that' thing. Xd
Whoa. Congrats and good luck. ^^
If you could choose one favourite character you've written about so far, who would it be? And why? Is there any specific reason for it?
Olga: Haha that means we understand each other. I love it :)
And thank you :D Glad to cheer up your mood ;)
Thank you so much. Same to you dear :)
Hmm, you mean Club Drunken Cherry or my debut book Fateful Italian Passion?
If I wanted to write about a character, of course, I would like to write about male characters because to write from a man's POV is fantastic for me. It seems like I am another person at that moment and can do anything - be strong, swear, be naughty, etc. If you are a girl, you cannot do it because you must appear like a really great human being without any bad habits :D haha.
So my answer: I will choose Kyle from CDC and Milano from FIP :D
Sarah, After Dark: Thanks. Noted. Kyle is such a hottie. oops xD
By the way, did you ever find yourself roleplaying any character you're writing or have written about?
Olga: Ah :) Hehe, he is. Milano is not too bad either. Maybe better than Kyle. Kyle is really cruel.
You mean, do I play their role sometimes? Lol, of course I do, I would like to play any of my characters.
Sarah, After Dark: Can you share with us a bit about how did you come out with such 18+ scenes inside CDC? Where did you come such scenes? And what's inspired you to write those mature scenes?
Olga: Wow... I see things are becoming hotter. :D
I read a lot of erotic stories. Maybe that's why these books influenced on my writing. Ha-ha.
I love to write stories with sensual erotica. It shows people the deep world of heroes' feelings. It shows their passion, lust, desire and even sorrow. Because sex can be different - kind and rough, boring and fun, happy and sad. Sex is the expression of love and I think the mood of our souls as well :)
Sarah, After Dark: Well, because there's nothing hotter than After Dark.. ^^
Once CDC finish, have you considered it to have a sequel?
Olga: Yes :)
Dear, I am still writing CDC and I suppose I will finish it soon. ;)
Yes, some people have asked me for a sequel, so I plan to publish it on Wattpad to know the opinions of readers, and hope to publish on Amazon. But not before "FATEFUL ITALIAN PASSION 2." Another group of fans are waiting impatiently. I cannot disappoint them ;)
Sarah, After Dark: I see you have other works in your hand.. what makes FIP and Hot Short Stories are different from Club Drunken Cherry?
Olga: Yes ;) Thanks for noticing that.
Fateful Italian Passion is really different from all the other stories that I have written. This story shows how two broken people find each other. One was from one world, another one from another world. I mean they live in different countries, but destiny brought them together. But who knew that this meeting will change their lives forever? Who could know that their fateful passion will bring them to the high level of understanding each other and maybe love each other? I didn't show in FIP that they love each other. I only show the POV, that's all. Readers must determine themselves what love and passion means and if the characters of this story love each other or is it not love yet. That's why "FATEFUL ITALIAN PASSION" is a book series because I have a lot of cliffhangers that I have prepared for readers in the next volumes.
"HOT SHORT STORIES" - the collection of different steamy stories that I created like teasers for my upcoming or published books or just to see what readers like. This collection is really EXPLICIT so people who are really sensitive to strong language and sex scenes should stay away from it. Anyway, I hope readers will love these series and I am planning to write "HOT SHORT STORIES," BOOK 2. Who knows? All depends on the fans mostly.
So I have a lot of projects (Especially FIP with 4 or 5 volumes) and I cannot stop for a break.
Sometimes I am really so tired and want just to lie on a couch and read a lot of romance books :D But this is luxury for me as for a writer who really wants to share his imagination with his lovely readers ;)
Sarah, After Dark: How did publishing your first book change your process of writing?
Olga: It has changed a lot. Because self-publishing demands a lot of strength and patience toward all this marketing and promotion stuff. When I faced it myself, I understood how naive I was thinking it would be easy to be a published writer and also to start earning some money. A writer must explore a lot of things before publishing if he wants to do it himself. This is hard work. But I hope that soon I will find a way to give my books a chance to be noticed more than now and find a worldwide audience.
Sarah, After Dark: Is there any secret you're hiding inside CDC that may only few people will know about it? If it there's, would you like to share it with us?
If you're not comfortable to share it, please let me know. So, I can move to another question.. ^^
Olga: This is a really interesting question. I can answer it.
I can tell only one thing. Kyle will have a rival or I can say, an enemy who he wouldn't imagine or guess in his worst nightmares. And Kyle will really try to save himself and Violet from the dark world of his dad ;)
Sarah, After Dark: Awww. Thank you so much for the compliment. I appreciate it. I try to ask a different question and definitely don't want to make the author feel bored with the same question over and over again. That's my story of becoming an interviewer, but I'm enjoying it. A lot. And love to learn from all the authors that have been asked. ^^
Anyway, back to the topic. Is there any characters other than Kyle that your readers love so much in CDC? And are you considering to make one side story of them once CDC finish?
Olga: You are welcome, dear. My pleasure.
That's okay, I like your intriguing questions. It makes me think that my readers curious as well as you. This is really great! X
Other than Violet and Kyle, my readers said a lot of kind things about Kyle's mom, Fiona and Kyle's best bodyguard and helper, Mignon. I suppose some readers wanted to hear his story- how he met Kyle, etc.
Other characters are really dark, like Kyle's dad, some people from the club. But I think it would be really unique to describe the darkest character, Mr. Grave. Maybe people would want to know how he was in his childhood, his youth.
Sarah, After Dark: It's a good reason to start one, Olga.. Go for it.. ^^ Let alone, that's your readers themselves who ask.. You have an insurance in that.. ^^
Olga: I hope :) Would like to start, but I have a lot of projects that I started to write, but still haven't finished because I am busy with business issues. I think if I could write full-time, I could publish more books in one year ;)
That's right, dear. I would like to know what my readers want to read about ;)
Sarah, After Dark: That's understandable.. ^^
Do you read your book reviews? How do you deal with bad and good ones?
Olga: Thank you :)
Yes, but it's not much for now because I didn't join KU app. Plus, my book FIP is a really unique and non-cliched, my plot is original (my fans say that in the comments, I really appreciate that) and I suppose not all people love to read such books. Maybe that's why a big part of them don't want to read my book when they read the preview on Amazon. FIP is a really deep book. It teaches love and compassion, it teaches how to save relationships. But I hope someday I will find fans and I will have a bigger audience than I have now :)
With reviews, I learn to be calm. This is not easy, but it makes me stronger. If a writer is calm, he can struggle with his fears and ego, he can improve himself and move on. Reviews help if they are constructive. If it is just hating and bullying, I suppose writers have to forget and don't mention it. A bestselling author once told me, "I try not to give attention to bad reviews. I cannot help people to love my books. Some love, some don't, but I just do my job and love it. I follow my heart."
Sarah, After Dark: Yeah. I agree.. ^^
What was an early experience where you learned that language had power?
Especially through CDC?
Olga: Thank you for support, Sarah :)
Btw, where are you from? Just curious. ;)
Good question. You mean English or my native language? In both cases, the more I write, the more I understand how better to choose words. Of course, my editors help me with that, so I am really glad that I have people who can advise me on what better to choose.
I mean, just to write doesn't mean that you will have success. Only practice, patience and assiduity can teach you to step up or lift up higher.
Through CDC, I learnt a lot. Since I never wrote books in first pov, it was a little difficult at first (because FIP was written in third pov), but anyway I did it and am happy that both POVs are not a problem for me now. Sometimes I see writers cannot handle one of these POVs, and I can understand. It's not easy to switch from one pov to another - it's a different technique to express emotions of your heroes. But this needs terrific practice!
I am glad to write in both POVs and this gives me more ideas for new projects as well.
Since you started to write, you must be good in many things if you want to become a professional author.
Sarah, After Dark: Oh, I'm from Indonesia.. ^^ Do you know Indonesia?
Last two questions, what accomplishments do you receive so far for your hard work?
Olga: Cool. Of course, I know, dear ;)
This is an awesome and beautiful country :)
Good question. My accomplishments is that I published 2 books already in 2017 and will publish the 3rd book in the beginning of next year. I cannot wait to finish my fourth book as well and then I can get to my new projects. I plan to write an Young Adult book, hope people will love it.
I am also glad that I started my site, my newsletter and began to understand about marketing of books more and more. This is a really good accomplishment and teaches me a lot of things.
Another accomplishment is my audience. I am really grateful to all of them who have supported me, helped me in so many awards, voted for me for all my books which now have awards from Wattpad, and told me so many encouraging words that still warm my heart when I need it. I couldn't believe that people really loved my stories and wanted to read more and still want to. Like one reader said, "your heroes became like my second family, I miss them..." This is so touching.
I love them all. Without them, I couldn't have done anything or become a writer that I am now. I am so grateful to them. As to all my friend-writers on Wattpad who supported me, You are the best, guys!
Sarah, After Dark: Thank you. Ah, Russia is also beautiful country too.. this is so heartwarming.. I believe they are happy for all your accomplishments too.. ^^
Okay the last question, but probably the most random one..
Have you ever Google-ed yourself? If you have, we are curious.. what it turns out?
Olga: Welcome! Yeah, it is. I totally agree with you.
Thanks, dear. That means a lot. I hope too :)
I am ashamed to admit, but I have. Lol. but only when I wanted to find the names similar to mine. It is sad that some people use such pen name as GOA in their profiles. I have chosen mine on purpose because of my initials. Anyway, I hope that if my books gets noticed someday, people will know only me by this name and no one else. Olga GOA, writer.
But I am glad to know that my book has an original unique title when I search on Google. When I started to write, the working title of my book was just "ITALIAN PASSION." But since I found a lot of stories with that title, I decided to change mine and picked a really special title that could fit my story.
And I did! Thanks to my parents and their idea, my book has another fresh breath. Yay!
Sarah, After Dark: Despite my dislike to call this an end, but we can't always be what we want, don't we? So, this is an end. Thank you so much for sharing your time, knowledge and experience with us. Thanks so much.. ^^
Olga: Me too. It was really lovely and awesome to talk to you, dear. Thanks for giving me the opportunity to share my wisdom and experience about writing.
Arrivederci. It would be nice to talk to you again :)
