DIRECTOR: LIGHTS, CAMERA ACTION!
Assalam o Alaikum and hello friends and fans!!
I'm your host and dost Kounj Muzafar. Today we have another honorable and lovely Author and winner of a Freedom Award MolayneMelody.
Thank you so much for agreeing to this interview. So I will start now...
Tell us a little something special about yourself and your background?
To start off, I am the stereotypical "good girl" who never got in trouble and was usually forgotten in the back of the classroom until someone needed to copy off me. I had a few close friends, but people always saw me as weird. I was smart, always getting the highest grades in the class, but nobody REALLY knew who I was.
I was quiet because I never knew what to say. I was a shy, abused child who was extremely sheltered by an abusive man who didn't allow me to use the internet, watch shows for kids my age, or even play outside. I was conditioned to fear the opposite sex, do what I was told, and wait for him to find me a husband. He even told me that I was going to be a veterinarian, end of story. He had money and had taken care of me all my life, who was I to not be thankful? I had nice clothes, nice expensive game systems, a nice house, and we went to Disney World and Busch Gardens. I had given up on my life since it was already planned out for me.
That's where writing came in. I was always in the house, except for school or when the man took us somewhere, so I desperately looked for an escape.
It started with silly elementary school stories and developed into long narrative essays and poetry as I grew older, but there was always something every story had that I never noticed at the time.
Hidden darkness.
From kittens forever missing in the forest to teenagers mugged in an alley, there was always a darkness to my stories. I, myself, never noticed it since it had been my reality from the ages five to fourteen, but my friends and teachers did. They would call me crazy or even go as far as to ask if I was mentally okay.
To be blunt, no, I was not mentally okay. I would have panic attacks at the end of the school day because I had to go back home where I was in a constant state of overwhelming anxiety, but I didn't want help because I felt like I was just complaining. I wasn't crying for help in my writing, at least, not on purpose, I just created a story that happened to be morbid or generally unusual for my external bubbly character. It got to the point where I became afraid to share my writing in fear of being judged or even locked away.
It wasn't until being introduced to Wattpad that I opened up to the darkness. My friend, Robyn, showed me Wattpad in 2015, but it took me almost a full year to find the courage to start my new obsession.
What's your age, your date of birth and zodiac sign?
Age: 20 DOB: March 28 Zodiac Sign: Aries (Western) Ox (Eastern)
Which genre did your winner book belong to? What draws you to this genre?
My book, Dead Beat, won Best Action Book. What draws me to action is the constant high risk life or death situations. Blood, gore, tragedy, kicking ass! It gets the blood pumping, which is why I chose Fallout Boy for the soundtrack.
Also, my book, Mikah & Hakim won Best Humor Book. What draws me to humor? Well, who doesn't like to laugh? However, my story is a DARK humor book, which I've already explained. I suffer from severe anxiety, and it reflects in the main character, Mikah. Mikah has his own personality and isn't the male version of me, but Hakim (Mikah spelt backwards) is a personification of what I've struggled with all my life. The colors and characters are bright and sometimes clashing to give off that mental illness feel, I'm not sure why I think it fit so well, maybe it's just me. I also thought Paradise Fears was a good band to soundtrack this particular story.
What do people hate the most about you?
Oh, god. I hope nobody hates me for any reason, but people have told me I'm annoying.
What's the most strangest thing you have done?
I told my boyfriend he can only cheat on me with a guy.
Do you ever get writer's Block? Give one tip on how to get through the dreaded writer's block?
If you never get writer's block, give me some of those drugs you're taking. My number one tip to get through it, though, is to just keep writing. Even if it's complete crap, delete it and rewrite it again.
Fun Fact: I rewrote the beginning of Dead Beat ten times and still wanted to bash my head into the wall because I thought it was crap. I even deleted the first four chapters of my horror book, The Woods, for the same reason.
How do you react to negative comments?
Sit in the corner and cry.
Which person would you like to meet from WP and why? Tag them.
I don't know anyone on Wattpad very well, since I've only been here for two months, but I would love to meet all my supporters and geek out over my books.
Who are your favorite authors?
Lemony Snicket and Edgar Allan Poe
What do your family say about your writing?
My mother loves it, but I'm still too nervous to let my other family members read it.
Favourite Quote –
"Listen to your heart, listen to the rain, listen to the voices in your brain." -Don't Hug Me I'm Scared
Places you want to visit –
Tokyo, Japan
Are you a good liar? Tell a lie.
I'm a good liar since that was my life growing up, but I couldn't tell you a lie now, to be honest. Or maybe that was a lie? Isn't life as we know it a lie?
What's one thing people love the most about you?
My personality. Or they could be lying and actually hate me.
What makes you really mad? Name one pet peeve
Unnecessary hatred
Any insane wish? Name one.
To live in the world of One Piece
Are you living the life you really want to live?
Are we ever truly satisfied?
Relationship status?
Taken
Best thing about being YOU?
Wouldn't that be a bit conceited?
Nah, just kidding, I'm cute as fuck.
Is being a writer a gift or a curse?
Curse? Nah, it's the best kind of gift. The kind of gift where you cannot possibly fall asleep until 4am because you have an idea for a new story.
You only get 3 words to describe yourself – what are they? *
Awkward, Unusual, Shy
Do you work to an outline or plot or do you prefer just see where an idea takes you?
I outline major plots to my stories, sort of. I know where I want the story to go, but 99% of it is unplanned.
What do you think about The Freedom Awards? Would you like to suggest something to better it next time?
To be honest, this was one of the most organized, yet. Most of the awards I've entered never even reach judging, let alone finish it.
How do you feel about winning a Freedom Award?
How would you feel if someone said your stories were awesome enough for an award?
