Sigh your problems away (Hapi)
Concept: You wanna fight. Hapi can summon monsters. Sighing releases stress. It's a win all around!
I'm filled with anxiety here's another chapter go!
Why is this emoji so tiny
[This chapter is a bit existential so be warned.]

"HAPI!" Your boisterous voice echoed throughout the alleyways of Abyss. You wanted to find your best friend who is known for summoning monsters with a single sigh.
Hapi is used to your shouting by now. That still doesn't mean she was a fan of your yelling. Neither were any of the other Ashen Wolves. Except Balthus but that's only because he really doesn't know what an "inside voice" is.
"Yep," Hapi responded, not turning around to face you. You were able to spot her bright pink hair from anywhere. She knew you would either:
A. In your run to her, you'd accidentally run into a wall, unable to stop your own momentum from your speed which would be funny.
B. Do a very cartoon-esque slide as you attempt to stop yourself before running into a wall which would be funny.
Or
C. Be able to stop yourself in time from running into the wall which wouldn't be as funny but you'd still try to suavely pose against the wall. That would be slightly embarrassing.
You chose option C.
As soon as you managed to slow yourself down to a full stop, you leaned your back against the wall, propping one leg up on it.
"Hey," you said as suavely as you could muster. Hapi wanted to facepalm. "I've got a... Proposition for you." If anyone else in Abyss had heard you, they would absolutely think you were about to ask Hapi for something extremely inappropriate. In public too! Do you have no shame?
No, you don't, but that's also not what you want.
"Would you mind going up to the surface and doing the thing for me? You know, the thing?" You winked at Hapi. You knew she got what you wanted. She still stared at you with her signature pout.
"At least you have the decency to ask to go to the surface first," she said then started walking away.
"Wait wait wait where are you going?" You panicked and scrambled to keep up with her.
"You wanted me to do the thing, right? Well a certain obnoxious someone has been bothering me and I have quite a bit of stress I need to vent. So let's go," Hapi was walking to the staircase leading out of Abyss.
"Yes!" You jumped in the air and did a fist bump. Hapi looked at your antics and almost sighed right there. You had no idea that you were the obnoxious someone she mentioned. No, she could restrain herself until she got up to a secluded area on the surface. At least one of you had to be the mature one.
Despite your very stark differences in energy, you two are best friends. But you definitely have a not at all subtle crush on the pink haired mage. Everyone in Abyss knows, basically. Hapi either knows about it and refuses to acknowledge it, playing blissfully unaware, or doesn't know at all. Either way, it works for you. You haven't faced any kind of painful rejection yet so it's still a win! Right?
Passing through the monastery was always awkward. The students at the officers academy would wave and smile at you both passing through. Hapi would give a small smile and a wave back. If someone would fall victim to your addicting optimism, they'd be stuck in a conversation with you until you parted ways.
There was a catch to your optimism though. Similarly to Constance, you can't be in the sun for too long before you would start to develop a cold or cold-like symptoms. Usually that would happen after about an hour but depending on the level of exertion you had performed throughout the time you've been outside, that would aggravate your condition.
You two had a routine with this. You'd find a place to let Hapi sigh to her hearts content, you would train and get stronger until you started feeling sick. Then Hapi would have to drag you back down to Abyss. Sometimes one of the students of the Officers Academy would help her take you back. She'd buy them food later. Dimitri seemed to be a reoccurring factor in you getting safely back to Abyss. And Dedue. Always trailing behind the blonde... You could see the secret fond looks they share between each other.
Today, the two of them happened to be in your course as you were headed outside the monastery walls.
"Hey Dimi! Hey Dedue!" You have a habit, much like Hapi, of giving people nicknames whenever you get close to them. While yours were more of a derivative of their names, hers were... Chaotic.
"Princely, Guardian," Hapi addressed Dimitri and Dedue with the nicknames she gave them. Those names were both given out of respect for their relationship. They both nodded at the two of you.
"Hapi, Y/N. Where might you be going?" Dimitri asked. Foolish prince, how could he not know where you both were going? If the two of you are out and about there's only one thing to be done.
"It's game time!" You shouted. Dimitri and Hapi wished they had covered their ears. You can be loud when you want to. Dedue was unfazed on the outside but also agreed you can be way too loud.
The two of them were the only ones who knew what 'Game time' meant. Anyone else would assume something more innocent.
Dedue and Dimitri shared a look.
"Should we wait outside the monastery for when you need to return?" Sweet little prince, always quick to offer his help.
"If you could. You and I both know Bumblebee, they'll fight until they're sick if they have something to prove," Hapi said. Your nickname was Bumblebee. She reasoned, saying you were annoying sometimes but still adorable. You didn't know she found bees adorable!
You totally missed the hint.
Yes, she likes you too. She has TRIED giving you hints that she is just as into you as you are her. Hell, even her allowing this game between the two of you was a way to get closer to you! You just never seemed to get it.
And yes she is also aware of your crush on her. It's pretty obvious. Sorry, Y/N.
The four of you separated at the gate, Dimitri and Dedue opting to wait outside for when Hapi would inevitably have to drag you back down to Abyss.
You walked for half an hour. You took in the sights, the mountains, the rivers, the fields. It was all so beautiful! Yet you couldn't find the perfect place for the game.
You found a clearing eventually. A nice open meadow in the middle of nowhere. Perfect to get destroyed by some monsters.
You took out your axe, standing a fair distance away from Hapi.
"You ready, Hapi?" You asked, getting into a fighting stance. Your pink haired best friend ran her hand through her hair.
"This is going to be interesting. Just tell me when you get tired, okay?" She asked. She was always looking out for you, especially when you're about to sacrifice your life just fun some measly exp.
Wait what's exp-
Never mind, that's too much to get in to right now.
"Of course! You already seem to know the telltale signs anyway," you laughed and she smiled a bit. "Anyway, let's rock!"
"This week has been so stressful, you know? Chatterbox gave me some extra homework last time I came up to the surface. Not like I mind the extra work but having me work with Lorenz? *Sigh*. It was constant conversations about tea and flirting with me. When will he understand that I'm not interested in him? It's getting annoying."
The first monster appeared in the middle of her rant. Just a wolf, easy enough! A giant, oversized, rabid wolf that was going for the jugular. It's on!
You quickly scanned for the easiest point of attack. You knew you'd have to take down the monster twice in order to defeat it. That was the easiest part. You saw one of the barriers surrounding the wolf and decided to hone in on that. Using your battalion to get the first hit, you got the monsters attention. Once you cracked the shield down enough to break it, you managed a critical hit on it! Only one more to time to go.
It was so easy! There wasn't a challenge to that at all.
"Hey Haps! Lets up the difficulty, yeah?" She knows what that meant.
"*Sigh.* Alright. But if you get majorly injured it's not on me. Sure I'll help heal you but you asked for this. *Sigh.* How reckless can you get?"
Perfect.
Two bird-like demonic beasts appeared this time. You were bouncing with excitement at this. Finally, a challenge!
You knocked the two bird demons out of the air like it was second nature to you. You sustained a few minor injuries but it was nothing a Vulnerary couldn't heal.
Maybe about forty five minutes in was when you started feeling your sun-sickness come on.
"Alright, Haps. I'm worse for wear, lets head back," Hapi moved to your side and wrapped her arm around your shoulder.
Walking back to the monastery together was never fun. The sun felt like it was melting your skin through your body. You couldn't stop yourself from sneezing every once in a while.
Dedue and Dimitri met you at the gates. It was clear they were having tea together and looked like they were having a wonderful time.
You were jealous. How could they be so comfortable outside when the sun felt like a billion degrees? They must've been in the shade.
"How did the game go?" Dimitri asked. All you could do was offer a weak thumbs up before melting back into yourself. Dimitri laughed at your behavior.
"I'm assuming it went well, then," Dimitri put his other arm under your armpit, lifting you up a little because of his height. Hapi mimicked his actions to help hold you up better. "Now let's get you two back."
The four of you made the trek back to Abyss with relative ease. Dimitri and Hapi made light conversation and you'd chime in with barely coherent nonsense which would cause the prince to laugh. Hapi would give a small smile. Dedue looked like he wanted to facepalm, almost mimicking Hapis expression from earlier that day.
Once you made it back, Hapi had you dropped off on the bottom bunk of one of the beds in the men's dorms. She thanked Dimitri and Dedue while promising to buy them dinner sometime in the future. You couldn't hear what Dimitri said in your delirium, but Hapi heard loud and clear.
"Nonsense! Today was a treat in itself, there's no need to repay us," she contemplated his words for a minute. Her eyes passed between Dimitri, Dedue, their conjoined hands, Dedue, Dimitri, and through them again.
OH.
She smiled and nodded.
"Well, if you ever change your mind and want a double date, you know where to find us," she said and shooed them out the door. They left, merrily chatting on their way back.
"Yuri-Bird! The game!" That's all the lavender haired man needed to hear to mosey on from the classroom to the dorm room. Being someone in Abyss who can use Faith magic, he was often called over to heal your wounds after the game.
"Again? Let's hope these aren't as bad as the ones two moons ago," Yuri chuckled and moved to inspect you to see the damage. "Hm. Not much. That's good." He healed whatever small knicks and bruises that were on your body then left.
"Alright, I'm gonna head to bed. Today was fun, thanks for that," Hapi moved to leave but you stopped her by grabbing her by the arm. You mumbled something into the pillow beneath you as you had been left lying face down.
"Hm? If you said something, I didn't hear it, Y/N," Hapi said, stopping in her tracks.
"Hapi, I love you. Wanna date?" A giant blush covered her face at your blunt request.
"Y/N... If you ask me this again when you're a bit less delirious, I may have an answer for you. Now get some sleep." You passed out right away.
The next morning, Hapis answer was yes.
