[This chapter is fluffy and kinda slightly NSFW only because Ignatz can NOT keep his hands off you.]

He couldn't even make eye contact with you while he asked you to come paint with him.

Not that he's ever really made eye contact with anyone before this point but he THOUGHT he was getting better about that. At least, with you. He couldn't even tell you what color your eyes are. He could describe your shoes to you in explicit detail. He could tell you (probably) the exact dimensions of the hole in the bottom of your left pant leg. It was only three centimeters wide but he found that hole in your pants wildly fascinating.

All that to say he can't look at you in the eyes.

You smiled at him and lifted his chin to make eye contact with you. That was a habit you would do to help quell his anxiety. So he'd know that you meant well and were happy to be near him.

"Of course! I'd love to paint with you Ignatz! Though I'm not very good, I can certainly try!" You laughed sheepishly. Your laugh sounds absolutely melodic to him. He smiled shyly back at you.

"D-don't worry about your skill, Y/N! I'll teach you if you'd like," he said almost so softly you couldn't hear it. Your smile widened.

"That sounds wonderful, my little painter man!" He blushed quite hard at that nickname. The two of you had been undergoing the courtship process ever since Professor Byleth had assigned the partner project to the Golden Deer class. You had asked him out. You had to, he would get too shy to even talk to you when he really wanted to. That was five moons ago. He's still just as shy now as he was when he first asked to court you. It's really an adorable trait of his.

He grabbed your hand which is still a rare thing for him to do unprompted unless he's very excited about showing you something, leading you to his favorite art spot. It's the spot he always goes to in order to be unbothered when he wants to create something artistic. In fact, he had a box containing paints, canvases, paintbrushes and the like in this special little clearing that seemed untouched by anyone who isn't Ignatz.

He was already rushing to set up a canvas on his easel. Clearly he was excited about bringing you to his favorite spot.

"Okay, I have an extra canvas and some things you can use if you want!" Ignatz handed you some materials without waiting for your response. He led you to a rock to sit down on in the clearing of tall grass.

You gracefully sat down on the rock and kind of posed yourself to feel more comfortable. There wasn't an extra layer of damage control between your clothes and skin and the rock you were positioned on. It wasn't a very comfortable position but Ignatz wanted you there so you sat.

Your boyfriend positioned his easel across and yet a bit aways from where you were. He already had his paints on his palette, ready to go.

He had given you a palette with a few paints on it as well. The base colors, red, blue, yellow, white, black, with plenty of room to mix the primaries into secondaries if you wanted. There wasn't a lot of blue because blue is a very rare pigment to come across. You know Ignatz likes to mix his own paints and blue is a very tough one.

Ignatz already was brushing away at his canvas. You had no idea what he was making but chose to let him concentrate. He is very focused when he paints and is hard to have a conversation with him whenever he's in this painting trance.

You grabbed a bigger brush and put some red on your brush. You mixed the red with white to make pink then spread the pink on the canvas. You had no idea what you were doing. You just wanted to make pretty colors look pretty. So that's what you did. You mixed red and white in varying degrees, sometimes using more red, sometimes using more white. You did your best to blend your strokes of pink to make it look slightly cohesive. It was working pretty well. There were some parts of the now pink covered canvas where there were lighter and darker parts. It was a very interesting depth test.

You then wanted to mix some light green in there. So you mixed yellow, blue, and white with an emphasis on how much more yellow you used than the other two colors. You didn't exactly have any idea of where you want this new color to go on your canvas. So you closed your eyes and let your brush fall on the canvas somewhere. It landed in the top right corner. You painted a few streaks of green amidst the pink and worked to blend them together. It was looking really nice!

You still don't know what you're doing though. You don't think this was a color combination you'd ever consider normally but it's the one currently on your canvas. Why did the colors on the canvas feel familiar to you? You shrugged.

Yellow was the next color addition on your list. You didn't think this would work very well but since yellow didn't have to be mixed to be made you found it easy to put on the canvas. Humming a small tune while painting, you were lost in the art. You suddenly understood why Ignatz enjoyed this so much. Painting is very soothing.

Ignatz was still very engrossed with what he was painting on his canvas. He would only look up every now and again.

You were still very focused on your canvas as well. The paint was still wet so there wasn't much you could do with it until the paint dries. Once it had, you wanted to add some flowers in a few darker shades on top of the colored background you had made. The color palette you had used still felt familiar to you in an unknown way. You stared at the canvas while it dried, hoping in some weird way that it would dry faster. It didn't. You glared at the paint as if it drying slowly was disrespecting you.

"Aaaaand done!" It had been a few hours. You had finished painting your red, deep green, and deep yellow flowers onto the canvas. You had taken to twirling paintbrushes around your fingers, trying to go for a record of how long you could keep twirling them. You were having so much fun you almost dropped the brushes you were spinning between your fingers when your boyfriend called out to you.

Ignatz motioned you over with his hand. You brought your canvas in your hands to show him as you walked over.

"...this has got to be the most wonderful piece I've done to date! The colors pop so well and the figure! The form!" Your boyfriend was muttering to himself and you managed to catch a part of it.

"What did you paint, handsome?" You asked him, tilting your head slightly and smiling. His cheeks blush as he realized he's gonna have to show you what he had painted.

"Uh, well, you see, I was really focused and couldn't help but paint what I saw and-" You cut Ignatz off mid ramble by walking around and looking at the canvas.

What you saw amazed you.

It was you, under the light of the sunset. Every color, every brief motion, every wrinkle in your smile and strand of hair on your head is intricately placed by design. Portrait-you's clothes tightly hung onto your body. Your skin was glistening under the light of the sun, your hair shimmering with gold. Your eyes were glowing with happiness and mirth.

You felt like crying.

It was one of the most beautiful things you had ever seen. And it was you! You in all of your radiant beauty. You in all of your flaws and imperfections. You in everything Ignatz saw in you.

Your boyfriend was, at the moment, hiding his blushing face in his hands. You could hear him muttering something again but it was more so a long string of groans of embarrassment. You giggled softly and moved his hands away from his face.

"Ignatz, look at me darling," you said softly. He still couldn't meet your eyes so you did what you always do. You gently guided his chin to look at you with your hand. Amber eyes met your soft ones. There was an aura of sincerity in your eyes that made him relax.

"I think the painting is lovely! You're an amazing artist and this is proof of it. You captured my likeness splendidly. The colors and soft pose you painted me in is so eye catching. This should be hung up in museums! Not to sound full of myself or anything, I'm just that enamored of what you've made," your smile could melt even the coldest of hearts in that moment. Ignatz couldn't quell the blush on his face. You laughed softly and he smiled sheepishly.

"I-I mean, it's the least I could do to show you how beautiful I think you are! Even without a painting, you'd still be the gorgeous person I see standing in front of me. I thank the Goddess every morning and night for bringing you to me. I must be the luckiest person alive if I-" his reverent ramblings were silenced by your lips on his. Your hands slowly moved from your side along his shoulders, around his neck, into his hair. His hands shyly and tentatively rested on your hips. He gently squeezed your hips and you sighed softly against his lips. That caused him to get much braver. His hands got firmer, now sliding one along your side and resting on your chest, over your heart. You tangled your hands in his hair, pulling slightly which made him gasp. The hand over your chest balled your shirt up in his fist. You both had to pull away to breathe. Ignatz was trying to pull your body closer and closer still. You laughed at that.

"How about we take this back to somewhere more comfortable, hmm?" You asked with a very not subtle implication in your tone and he nodded eagerly. He was just as excited as you were to finish this at home. But first, all the art equipment had to be packed up. You had never seen Ignatz move faster than he did in that moment. Once everything was put away he was pulling you away and back the monastery. You were laughing the whole way.

That night was going to be a long night.
