Mishti :

It was around 2.00 PM. I was done with all my college works. Now I was waiting for Sam near the gate.. She came to me without taking her stuffs, “ I have some works to finish, it will take time,” she informed..

“Umm okay! I will wait for you,” I said but she denied.. “No! You should go, It will take more than two hours to finish all my works ” she protested.. I was feeling sleepy too so I agreed and she left..

I was just about to go , a car came in a full speed and stopped just in front of me. I closed my eyes in fear, my heart was just about explode. I kept my hand on my chest and sighed..

I knocked on the front window of the car, “Who the hell drive like this?” I roared at the driver . My anger reached peak level when I noticed it was Abir. He was looking totally carefree like nothing happened here. I glared at him..

“Where is my sister?” he asked raising his eyebrows. “She will be late,” saying I started walking on my way to get a taxi..

“Come, I will drop you then,” he shouted from my back..

“No need of that, I can go by myself,” I shouted back without looking at him..

To my luck I got a taxi and left..

It was evening .. I was lying on my sofa thinking about my family.. Today Mom and Chachi came to my house.. She was sorry for whatever happened that day..

From her I got to know that Rashi bhabi and Aarav bhai were childhood friends. Bhabi had no one in her family expect her father.. Two years before her father was diagnosed with cancer.. He was in last stage of cancer..

So he wanted bhabi to get married before anything happen to him.. Mom was their at that time.. She couldn't deny him as he had supported our family before so many time and the situation was like that..

And they both got married in a church. Uncle passed away after an week. Bhai was not ready for the marriage but now he's happy. Chacha and chachi were not present in their wedding, they just knew about it..

Mom didn't tell me anything because she didn't feel like to tell me as my brother and I were not in touch from last 14 years ..

I sighed..  This mess ain't gonna clear..

"Hey! Mishti,"

I got startled as Sam jumped from no where.. "You scared me. " She adjusted herself in a couch and chuckled..

"You were in a deep think, what's going on inside your head ?" she started interrogating. "I have to go to Delhi to submit some papers, so just thinking about that," I lied but it was true too.

"Bhai went to Delhi just today only, why don't you send those documents in whatsapp through pdf format," She suggested..

Of course I had the pdf in my phone but I didn't know whether I need to submit original papers or xerox.. So I called  Principal and she said no need of original papers..

So I sent the pdf to Sam , "Wait! Which bhai?" I asked her.. "Abir bhai," she replied.. I sighed..

"I have sent him the pdf, but make sure you will remind him tomorrow. He is coming tomorrow only. And yes I have sent his number to you," she informed, I nodded..

Later we both went for a evening walk and I did my dinner in her house .. After that I came to my home and slept.. Not before talking with my Mom.. Today she didn't say anything related to bhai, so I was happy throughout the call..

(Next day)

Sam had informed me that Abir's flight was at 3.00PM.. And it was 1.30 PM now.. I was calling him from last one hour but he's not picking up my calls..

I threw my phone on the couch and sat silently.. But that's when my phone started ringing.. To my luck it was from Abir..

"Hello Abir"

- Who

I rolled my eyes.. "Mishti this side, " I replied..

-Which Mishti

Argghhh how many Mishti do he know?

"Abiiirrrr, " I frowned.. First of all he didn't pick my calls and now he's waisting time..

- Yes

He said in a sarcastic way.. I narrowed my eyes in frustation..

"Abir can you please be serious?"

- of course

"Have you submitted those documents which Sam sent you yesterday?

- which documents?

" Abir please! Be serious.. " he's getting on my nerves now..

- Hello! I seriously don't know which documents you are talking about..

"Haven't you checked your whatsapp? " I asked him..

- Nope!

"Seriously! Why do you even have a phone?? You don't pick up calls, don't check whatsapp.. What do you do with that phone? " I got annoyed..

- Don't shout at me like that! Wait let me check..

I was tapping my feet in frustation .. Of course it was not his work, so I shouldn't have shouted at him.

- Han! I got it.. The college  is just 6 Km away from the airport.. But what if I will miss my flight..

"Listen you still have time.. Don't worry you won't miss your flight. Please do this, otherwise I have to go to Delhi just for this," I pleaded him..

- okay lets see what I can do..

"And yes! Don't give it to anyone, it's important documents of my college.. I can't take risk," I warned him..

-Hmm ok..

He cut the call.. Hopefully he won't miss the flight..

I didn't call him after that. He must be in rush  ..

Now it's 6.30 PM and I tried to call him but his phone was switched up.. He must be reached home..

I called Sam to ask her whether Abir reached home or not..

"Hello Sam, "

- Mish... Mishti...

She was sobbing. I got tensed as she started crying more..

"What happened Sam? Why are you crying? "

- Mishti.... The plane in which bhai was coming got crashed..

I sat on my place. My heart started beating in an unknown rhythm..

- And after hearing this news Chachi fainted. She is now admitted in the hospital.. And doctor said that it was heart attack ..

My phone fell from my hand.. I could not believe her words.. Meera Aunty... My vision got blurred..

"Beta! What happened? " Ramu kaka asked me..

"Kaka! You stay here! I will come back soon, " I informed him..

Taking my phone with me I left .... I spotted a taxi..

I started running towards it, but came in front of a car. Somehow the driver applied the break on time but I got hit by it and fell on the road..

"Ouch! " I rubbed my knee as I got a little strain there  ..

"Are you mad? Who run like this on a road? "

My breath stopped when I heard his voice.. "Abir, " I whispered.. He sat on his knees in front of me.. My hands were shaking seeing him all fine... I was totally shocked..

"Are you fine? " he asked me. I held his hand, tears started falling from my eyes unknowingly.. "Why are you crying, should I take you to hospital? " he asked me in a concern tone ...

"In which flight did you come? " I asked getting up from the road.. "I missed my flight so took another flight which was just after an hour, " he replied.. I stared at him helplessly..

"The plane in which you were supposed to come got crashed, and hearing this your mom got a heart attack. " listening  my words he froze... I was shaking terribly..

"Abir we need to go to hospital, " I approached.. Without waisting our time we both got inside the car.. He was driving in a high speed. I had a doubt whether we both would reach hospital in an injured state, the way he was driving.. There was one hospital in our locality so we both went to their anticipating everyone to be there..

I didn't get a chance to ask Sam about the hospital adress and later she didn't pick up my calls.. He asked the receptionist about aunty and she said Aunty was in 5th floor..

I was just panicking thinking about everyone's state. They must be thinking that Abir was in the plane which got crashed.. I felt bad for those people who were in that plane..

We both took the elevator..

He was looking totally lifeless.. The elevator stopped and we both moved out of it..

Everyone were present their .. As they all saw Abir, they all froze... Everyone came running towards us..

"Abir! Oh my God... We were thinking-" Aadarsh bhai hugged him followed by Sameer bhai.. I hugged her ,she was crying.. Abir was totally silent..

"Bhai in which did plane you come? " Sam asked him.. He didn't say anything and just sat on a chair.. "How is Mom? " he whispered..

"Her condition is critical," Geeta aunty replied.. "But tell us how did you come here?  " Aunty asked him.. But he stayed silent keeping his both palm on his face..

"Actually he missed that flight," I said drawing everyone's attention.. "How did you know? " Sameer bhai asked me..

"Actually I told him to submit my documents in a college, so he went there and in this way he missed his flight. " I explained..

Aadarsh bhai came and stood in front of me.. "I don't know what to say to you! " he hugged me.. I rubbed his back as he started sobbing.. "you saved my brother today, " he mumbled..

I broke the hug and wiped his tears.. "When God is with you, who can be against you! " I said and he just nodded..

I tuned my head as I heard someone's footsteps.. Sanvi di was towards us,bur seeing Abir there she stopped.. Her eyes were dark red.. She took steady steps and sat in front of Abir .. She held his hand.. "Abirr.... You are fine! I mean... You-" she could not complete her sentence. He was still silent ..

Moving my eyes from them I looked everywhere but could not found Sahil.. "Where is Sahil? " I asked to Sam in a low voice.. "In the Garden, " she whispered..

It was quite dark so it took me little time to find him.. He was sitting on a swing staring at the ground.. I went near him, tears were falling from his eyes..

"Sahil, " I called him but no response..

"I can't live without him, " he murmured still looking at the grasses. "Sahil! Abir is fine," I said to him but he shook his head..

I lifted his face and made him look at me. "I am serious! He is all fine. You can check too, " I assured him .. He stared at me like he saw an alien, I blinked my eyes..

He rushed to hospital and I followed him.. "Bhai!" he just stood like a statue seeing Abir there.. I felt bad for him.. Sahil went and sat near him..

"Don't worry Aunty! She will be fine! " I tried to console Geeta Aunty but only if she was in her sense.. All were out of zone ..

I sat near Sam ," What just happened yarr! Everything was fine till yesterday and today -" she was sobbing silently.. "Sam!  Meera aunty will be fine , don't worry. " I rubbed her back..

Doctor came out of the ward. "How is she? " Aadarsh bhai asked..

"We can't say anything now. Please keep patience, " saying he left..

Abir got up from his seat and left.. I followed him .. He must be cursing himself for the current situation.. He sat on a sofa and I sat near him..

"I should have informed them, " he mumbled placing his head on the backrest of sofa.. A tear dropped from his eyes. It was for the first time I saw him crying.. "Abir don't worry! She will be fine, " only thing I could say..

"Can I sleep here? " he asked pointing at my lap.. I was surprised but nodded.. He adjusted himself and placed his head on my lap.. I never felt anything for him, buy today seeing him in such a condition I felt heavy inside my chest..

I ruffled his hairs, he closed his eyes, but tears were flowing from corner of his eyes.. He held my one hand tightly.. "Abir don't stress yourself! " I said. I intertwined our palm to pacify him.

After some time he fell asleep. I was  feeling tired, so I kept my head on backrest of sofa and closed my eyes..

My sleep got disturbed as I felt someone's hand on my waist.. I opened my eyes only to realize it's already morning.. Abir was sleeping wrapping his hand around my waist and pressing his face on my stomach.. I felt awkward..

"Abir! Wake up, " I tried to wake him up but he held me more tightly.. "Mom! Please, " he whispered. "Abir!" I again called his name and he opened his eyes..

As soon as he realized his position he got up and sat on his place.. "I am sorry! " he apologized awkwardly.

We both went near the ward where Aunty was. Sam was sleeping keeping his head on Aadarsh bhai's lap.. Sameer bhai and Sahil were awake.. Chachi was not there..

"How is Mom? " Abir asked to Sameer bhai..

"She's fine now," he said. I got relieved.. Abir looked inside the ward through the small glass.. I placed my hand on his shoulder to soothe him, he gave me a faint smile..

It was around 11.00 AM when Meera aunty came into her sense.. We all were their expect Abir. He was denying to go home but bhai forced him. After taking bath he would come.. Sam had informed him about Aunty's conditions as soon as she opened her eyes..

Doctor checked her condition and wrote something on his notepad and left.. "Mom! " bhai called er, but she kept her eyes on the wall.. "Mom! Abir is fine, he was not in that plane, " he informed her..

She was trying to digest bhai's word when Abir entered inside.. Bhai got up from his seat giving Abir that place.. Aunty started shedding tears seeing Abir.. He held her trembling hand..

Nobody said anything.. Seeing them my eyes filled with tears. Sam placed her head on my shoulder , taking my hand in her..

"How could you think your Abir will leave you like this? " he complained. Aunty shook her head. "How would I know that you were not in that plane, how many time I will say you to keep informing us about your whereabouts!" she yelped. .

"My phone was dead! "

God know why he have a phone even.. "Next time you will do something like this I won't spare you, " Aunty started crying. He kissed her cheek and hugged her in sleeping position..

"You both scared us yesterday, " Geeta Aunty yelled at both of them.. Sameer bhai went to her and consoled her..

"Everything is fine now, you all should go home, I am here with Mom, " Abir announced..

No one wanted to go home but Meera Aunty too forced them.. I was the last person to leave the room.. I wanted to talk with Meera Aunty but they both need some time. So I left.. As I came out of the room Abir called me from back..

I turned back and he stood in front of me.. I raised my eyebrows at him.. My eyes went wide when he wrapped his hands around my shoulder and hugged me.. He hugged me for the first time..

I stayed like a statue not knowing what to do. He tightened the hug, his breath was falling on my neck giving ne goosebumps..

"If you would not have sent me yesterday, I would have been dead by now, " he whispered near my ear..

I just patted his back.. He broke the hug making the atmosphere awkward for both of us.. I just nodded my head and left without saying anything to him...
