Chapter 19: Look at me in the shadows and listen to my pain
____
"Tae, why you look like you are about to kill someone?" Jimin whispers to his friend, still looking in front of him.
"Maybe I am about to do that." the bandanna-boy comments at his turn, sending arrows from his eyes in the direction of the silver-haired boy.
At this moment, they are all on the football field, waiting for the second half to start. And Taehyung, well, so far he's been trying to look after Jungkook, or he's trying to hurt Yoongi more subtly. Yes, he knows that it is not at all sporty to injure his opponents. But it's already personal (that's how he feels, he has no idea why).
"Jeon doesn't seems in his best condition. We must play more attentive, the other team leads by one point. " the blond-haired boy says, and his best friend just sighs.
Yeah, he know that Jungkook is not in his best condition at the moment. Maybe because he was beaten again as if it were a punching bag? And even though Taehyung insisted that the younger one should stay in the room because he shouldn't force himself, the tattooed boy didn't even want to hear. The older boy really couldn't convince him. And in the first phase of the match, Taehyung could not focus too much on it, because he was more attentive to Jungkook, as he was afraid that the younger one will faint, or that Yoongi idiot will hurt him again.
"Yeah, we got this. It is okay." the bandanna-boy tries to cheer his best friend up, then gets up from the chair, then approaches his roommate, which is a few meters away.
He immediately notices the not very comfortable grimace of the tattooed-boy and immediately realizes that he is definitely in pain. It is normal though. He straightens his voice and then sits next to him, trying not to look extremely angry because he didn't listen to him, and that he came to play in the match.
"We have to win." the younger one starts the conversation, breathing somehow deeply.
He moves after his glance to Taehyung, as the older one looks over his phone, at the time. They still have a few minutes break, so he can talk with his roommate.
"You shouldn't be here, Jungkook. Normally you should have been in the hospital now, or at least in the room. " the older boy whispers, and the other one just rolls his eyes.
"I'm fine. You don't need to look after me, just focus on the game. We have to win. " he repeats once more, and the bandanna-boy just looks at him intently.
"Someone has to look after you, because I don't feel like picking you up from the field because you're fainting. " Taehyung mumbles in a sarcastic tone, then moves his glance to the other side, at a certain silver-head. "Did he tell you anything? Has he threatened you again? " he then asks, and the younger boy does not to think much to understand about what he talks.
"Kim, I told you to finish with Yoongi. You found out why he did what he did, you shouldn't interfere anymore. " the younger one comments, and the captain just keeps looking at his opponent.
Yes, what he said a few hours ago made Taehyung understand at least a little, the actions of the Yoongi bastard. The fact that Jungkook told him about an accident in which the boy Yoongi loved died, made Taehyung to open his eyes, trying to understand him. According to his roommate, Yoongi's boyfriend died while rescuing the tattooed boy. That's why Yoongi blames Jungkook, that's why he treats him like that. That's all he found out, nothing more.
But still, he doesn't manage to sympathize with the Yoongi even a little bit. He can't look at him any better, just because he realizes that the silver-haired boy has suffered, and that the wound in his soul has probably not yet healed. Because no, Jungkook is not to blame for the death of his boyfriend! And no, that's not a the way in which he should behave! Even though Yoongi's boyfriend died while rescuing Jungkook, that doesn't mean Jungkook killed him! And the silver-haired idiot should understand that. And if he doesn't understand soon enough, Taehyung will have to make him.
"Yeah, whatever. You are sure that you can keep going? You look pale as fuck, Jeon." Taehyung says after, and the younger one nods instantly, then he takes a bottle of water from his left side, and drinks some.
"I am much stronger than you think." Jungkook mumbles then gets up from the chair, watching the other team rise in turn. "The break is over. We need to focus more now! " he says after, looking at his roommate.
Taehyung gets up at his turn, then glance at his team. They all seem a little discouraged because of the score, but that doesn't stop them from trying to keep fighting. They must to win, and they will.
"We'll get back to it, we'll draw and we'll win! " Taehyung raises his voice, and everyone on the team nod immediately. "We will show them that we are not an easy team to beat!" he comments after in the same deep and high tone, then looks at his roommate, smiling a little. "We can do it. Trust me." he whisper after to him.
And Jungkook nods, smiling a little at his turn. Yes, he still has a lot of pain from those blows. But that will not stop him from playing like he has done so far. He will give his best, just like everyone else. Maybe this match is not very important for the golden cupe, but it is extremely important for their morale, so they must win it.
"I trust you, and I know we can do it." the tattooed-boy comments, and immediately afterwards, the sound of a whistle coming from the referee, gives the start of the second half from the match.

"I knew we would lose. " the blond-haired boy says in a disappointed tone, taking another mouthful from the glass.
His best friend (and the captain in the same time) just sighs, looking at him, without a lot of energy.
"We gave our best and we didn't give up. That's the important thing. " Taehyung tries to encourage him, but the other one does not seem very happy with these words.
"Stop this nonsense, Kim. This match was damn important in order to qualify for the big cup. In vain we gave our best if we did not win. " Jackson intervenes, and the boy in the bandanna just looks at his roommate.
"We have another chance for the big cupe, in two weeks. " Taehyung mumbles, and as soon as he sees Jungkook get up from the table and head for the exit, follows his action. "I'll be right back. You can continue talking. " he tells after to the boys on the team, under the curious case of his best friend.
Yes, unfortunately they lost in today's match. And they lost quite badly, at the score of 5-2. Yoongi's team is much better than theirs, that's for sure. But what worries Taehyung is the fact that Jungkook did not say anything after losing the match. He doesn't really show how disappointed he is, but he has simply become impassive and distant. And that irritates the older boy, because he knows how important the match seemed to his roommate.
"Where is he?" the boy in the bandanna whispers to himself as soon as he leaves the restaurant, inspiring the clean, cool October air.
He searches the area in front of him, without seeing the tattooed boy, but immediately after that, he hears a damn familiar voice, but just as annoying.
"I thought you wouldn't be able to walk at least for a day after our last meeting in the gym. I don't think I hit you hard enough. "
Taehyung tries to be as quiet as possible, subtly directing his steps towards the voice of the idiot Yoongi. In a few seconds he manages to see them both, and he hides behind a car. Why is he doing this? He has little idea. Maybe he'll be able to find out something else this way? Yes, he knows it's not good to listen to other people's conversations. But it's about Jungkook! (so he is more than curious).
"I wanted to ... play in the match. That's why I didn't looked after the pain. " Jungkook says in a tone more than low and somewhat fearful, and the older one just smirks, as Taehyung tries his best to not punch him yet.
"You were pathetic today, Jungkook. Your brother would be more than disappointed in you. " Yoongi says in a disgusted tone, and it seems that the last remark instantly caught the younger boy's attention.
Taehyung immediately wonders why his roommate seems so affected when that stupid silver-head brings his brother into the discussion. It's probably a more delicate subject for him. And once again, he realizes how little he knows about Jungkook. Even stranger is that he wants to know more and more. Why? Why the hell !?
"Please don't ... don't bring him up. " Jungkook whispers and Taehyung feels his heart pound again when he feels the pain in tattooed boy's voice.
As Yoongi gets even closer to Jungkook, Taehyung is about to get out from his hide-spot, believing that he will hit his roommate again, but that doesn't happen. Yoongi just looks at him more closely, while he seems to read the younger boy's face. Even though he doesn't know much, Taehyung knows one thing: the two certainly have a complicated past behind them. And maybe it's not his business, but he really wants to know as much as possible!
"Shouldn't I bring him up? " the silver-haired boy asks, then chuckles dryly. "Why, Kook? Do you have some darker memories if I tell you about him so directly? " he continues in the same thick voice that wants nothing more than to hurt Jungkook. "You came here for him, but you did nothing but humiliate his dream. "
The last sentence makes Taehyung even more confused about what is being said. What does he mean by, Jungkook came here for his brother? And how he humiliates his dream? And another thing: why does he calls him Kook?
"I... I know."
Jungkook's voice is just as ridiculously small and full of fear, and Taehyung finds it hard to stay still hidden, because yes, he really wants to go there and get him out of this situation. But he wants to know more details to help him. Maybe some details that will make him understand some things.
"You know? Really, Jungkook? Do you know what you are right now? Nothing but an coward who feels no remorse for what he has done. " the silver-haired boy comments in the same tone, and the younger one seems to refrain from crying. "You should have died then, Jungkook, not him. You should have been tens of feet underground now, in a rotten coffin! " he raises his voice, and Taehyung is just trying to understand what he just heard.
Did that bastard really have the audience to say such a thing?! Is he even a human? This is more than just enough!
Taehyung prepares to leave and intervene, but Jungkook's voice stops him.
"I know." he repeats again, shifting his gaze to the ground.
And if the bandanna-boy thought that so far Yoongi's words had helped him understand how dark Jungkook's past was, what he hears later make his blood freeze in his veins, and his breathing stop for a moment:
"You will always be the same depressed drug addict who is nothing but a parasite for this world. "
And Taehyung doesn't understand if he should be worried about what he heard, or because he just realized that his concern for Jungkook (maybe) is not just that of a friend.
