Chapter 15: Going through the flames for you

_____

"Damn, you saw him? He was more than just hot as fuck! " Jimin says not very subtly, looking at a certain tattooed boy, who is a few tables away from them.

"Shut up and eat, Park. You're already too annoying, midget. " Taehyung mumbles in his turn, not very happy with his best friend's idiotic reply.

Yes, the whole team had another training session, because they have to prepare for next week's match. And, as usual, Jimin's gaze fell "by mistake" on Jungkook. And considering that he has no idea that the great Jeon Jungkook is a bottom as well, he's still thinking about how he ca have sex with him. Thing that really annoys the bandanna-boy.

"But you have to admit, Tae. Jeon Jungkook is really damn hot! " Jin insists on this, too, and Taehyung just looks at him in a not-so-friendly way.

"Your boyfriend is right next to you, you idiot! " Taehyung, in turn, says without caring that the person in front of him is also a teacher, not just one of his friends.

      Namjoon just shrugs, then smirks.

"You look more jealous than you should be. What? Don't you really like to know that others see how good your roommate looks? " Namjoon asks sarcastically, and Jimin and Jin laugh at the same time.

Taehyung has no idea why he feels the need to run away, or why he feels somewhat trapped. No, he's not jealous or anything! He just doesn't like the idea of his roommate being "devoured" by his friends. The truth is that he also devoured him, even though they were both drunk.

"Again, how do you know that he is a top? The fact that he looks almost as good as me doesn't necessarily make him a top. " the bandanna-boy says later, then subtly looks at Jungkook, who is sitting alone now at a table.

Yes, Jungkook has become more sociable, but it seems not enough, to eat with others in the canteen. Why? Taehyung really has no idea. Every time he told to the younger one to eat with him and his friends, he refused.

"You already lost that bet, alien. You want another one?" Jimin jokes and his best friend rolls his eyes.

At times like this, he would really like to tell him what happened that night when he and Jungkook got drunk. He would like to tell him he's wrong, to tell him that Jeon Jungkook has abs of a top, but ass and thighs of a bottom.

"No need, I already know the truth. It is enough for me." the bandanna-boy whispers to himself, then frowns, when he sees something off, near to his roommate.

About four boys from the last year are sitting around Jungkook, while Min Yoongi, the captain of the last year's football team, sits next to him. What's going on, or how do they know Jungkook?

"Does your roommate know the last year's boys? " Jin asks, and all four at the table look at those a few feet away.

"They don't look like friends, though. " Jimin mumbles, and the next moment, most of the students in the canteen look back at Jungkook and the other boys.

Why are they so interested in him? Because the silver-haired boy next to him slammed his whole plate of food straight in his face. And Taehyung can't figure out at the moment why he should be more surprised about: the fact that the Yoongi bastard really did that, or the fact that the Jungkook idiot doesn't react in any way.

"What the hell?!" Taehyung raises his voice later, as he hurries away from his seat, followed by his friends.

Yoongi looks amused by the bandanna-boy's reaction, while Jungkook just keeps his eyes on the floor. Taehyung really can't figure out what the hell is going on with him. Where is his roommate, the one who doesn't get trampled on by anyone? Why does he look like a lost child right now?

"Woah, Kim Taehyung is here. What? Don't you like your roommate's new look? " Yoongi asks in an amused tone, referring to the fact that Jungkook is completely dirty on his face, with sauce and food.

The students gather around them, while the bandanna-guy clenches his punches nervously, feeling more than ready to hit the silver-haired boy. He has no idea why he hates to see Jungkook humiliated in this way. Moreover, he does not know why he feels the need to defend him, especially since the boy with tattoos seems lost in space at the moment.

"Why the hell did you do that? Do you want to look for a beat and you have no idea how? " Taehyung's voice comes out extremely thick and cold, at the same time, and Jimin is already preparing to stop him.

Yoongi just starts laughing at the same time as his friends, and Taehyung just looks at him more than just angry. Namjoon straightens his voice, feeling the need to intervene. After all, he is a teacher!

"Min and the rest of the four who were involved in this, you have to go right now in the director's office. I'll go right away and tell him what you did. " his superior tone only makes Yoongi roll his eyes, then turns his attention back to Jungkook.

"Don't forget what I said, Jeon. " the silver-haired boy comments, then goes in the office's direction, along with the other four boys from the last year.

People around him are already starting to whisper, and others have already filmed on the phone. Taehyung would like to teach everyone a lesson, but he doesn't have time for that. Not when Jungkook looks like anything but a stone.

       "Jungkook,. why you-"

"Stay away from this and leave me alone, Kim." Jungkook's strangely low voice makes the older one to winces subtly, because he can recognize some emotions in it: pain, fear and disappointment, or something there.

And he doesn't have time to say anything else, because the boy with the tattoos leaves without saying anything else, completely humiliated, leaving behind a lot of students laughing, and a Taehyung more than hurt by all this scene.

***

"Jungkook, stop this! You have to fucking tell me what happened in the canteen! Don't try to avoid it anymore! " Taehyung yells as the younger boy continues to scribble in his notebook, unbothered.

"I've already told you, it's none of your business. Stop interfering everywhere, Kim. It's not good for health. " Jungkook says in an amused tone, but the other takes it as seriously as before.

"Jungkook, stop fucking joking around. This is not the time." the older boy tries to stay calm, then runs a hand through his hair. "How do you know Yoongi and his friends? And why did you let them humiliate you like that? Damn it, Jeon! What the hell is going on?!"

So, let's be more precise about the situation at the moment: Taehyung is more than angry, because he doesn't understand anything. He wants to know, he has to! While Jungkook simply ... pretends nothing happened.

"Don't worry about what happened. We are not so close as, to be forced to tell you about my problems. " Jungkook answers in a blank tone, then gets up from the bed and places his notebook on the nightstand.

He wants to go out of the room, but Taehyung doesn't let him, because he grabs his right wrist, forcing him to stay put. The younger one doesn't understand what's more annoying: the strange feeling of warmth around his wrist, or the fact that the idiot with the bandanna is again extremely meddlesome again .

"We are not close enough?" Taehyung asks in a somewhat hurt voice, because yes, he really feels bad.

Really? After so many weeks in which he had to endure all of the younger one's whims, in which he always tried to befriend him, aren't they close at all? Taehyung understands. He understands that Jungkook is hiding something from him, and he understands that he needs help. That's why he insists on finding out what's going on, but it seems that the tattooed boy doesn't really have a similar opinion.

"What? Do you think we magically befriended just because we had sex once when we were both drunk? Do you think I'm forced to tell you what the hell is going on with me just because of that mistake? "

Taehyung just chuckles dryly, then lets go of the other's wrist. He doesn't really know if he should laugh or just punch him in the face. How the hell could he even think of such a thing? Does the Jungkook idiot really think he wants to help him, just because they had sex when they were both drunk? Yeah, this shit kinda feels awful.

"Really, Jeon? Do you really think I'm worried about you because I had sex when we was not even aware of what planet we're on? " Taehyung asks, looking straight in his eyes. "Know you're wrong, idiot. I thought we were starting to be friends, you know? But it seems that you are not mature enough to explain to me why the hell you are distancing yourself every time we start talking like two normal people. I don't even understand why I insist on knowing you, when it seems like you don't even know yourself, Jeon. " he finishes what he has to say, and the younger boy looks at him intently.

        "What do you mean?"

The older one still looks directly in his eyes, not wanting to move his glance.

"Your eyes, Jungkook. Your eyes are asking for help, but your mouth is just trying to push the world aside. " the bandanna-boy explains, and the other one feels something weird near to his heart. "I just want to help you. Is it really that hard to tell me what the hell happened in the canteen? Is it really that hard ... to trust me? "

The last sentence makes the younger boy to looks away, moving his own glance to the floor, feeling immediately guilty. Yes, he knows how stupid he is right now. He knows that Taehyung wants to help him, he knows that what the older one saw today probably made him confused. But he can't do anything about it. He can't tell him what's really going on. That would mean telling him about his past, and that's the last thing he wants to do.

Do you know what is said? You can really tell what's in a person's heart if you look them deep in the eye. And the fact that Taehyung managed to see beyond Jungkook's annoying attitude confirms this quote. Because yes, the tattooed boy looks tough and ready to fight with anyone, but the truth is that inside him, there is nothing but a scared boy. And Taehyung seems to have realized that.

"I gave up trusting people, Tae. " Jungkook's glass-like voice makes the other one speechless for a moment. "How can I trust other people, when I am not able to trust myself?" he asks after, trying his best to be calm. "My life ... is nothing but hell, Kim. I never floated in the clouds, but I always had to fight with painful flames. So don't try to find out what's going on with me if you don't want to destroy your life. I'm ruining people, Kim, even if I don't want to. It's just ... that's me. It's like a curse, I just can't get away with it, even if I want to. "

And Taehyung didn't really expect such words, especially from his roommate. But once again, he realizes that he doesn't know him at all. And maybe he should say something that warms him up a bit, but he knows that deeds weigh more than words at times.

So the next thing he does is to take the boy with the tattoo in his arms, not caring about how bad the situation is, and forgetting that they just had an argument. And the whisper he says in his right ear, makes the younger boy forget to breathe, feeling something more than just strange (but in a good way, if you understand):

"I'd gladly fall from the clouds and walk through the flames, if that means helping you, Jungkook. "
