The moon shone a little more dim than usual. Rae sat on the balcony and just stared at the house right in front of hers.
Stop it, Rae, he doesn't want you.
Tom, her neighbor, was still awake. His room's lamp was still on, and from her balcony Rae could see his movements. She sighed. He wanted her the last.
She had crush on him right when he showed up in her doorstep--he was new in the neighborhood and he intended to introduce himself around. It was something like love at first sight, but Rae knew she didn't love him back then. Tom was just too gorgeous for her own good.
It was proven right. Tom went to the same workplace, same groceries store, same gas station, and any other places Rae could imagine. They always met accidentally in weird places, like that one time when they saw each other in the pub's bathroom.
Rae thought it was fate. Apparently, Tom didn't.
Just when Rae decided she could trust her heart, Tom went home with a beautiful girl. Much, much more beautiful than Rae. She was his high school girlfriend, and they seemed to be back in touch after all this time.
Rae stopped before things get worse. She avoided Tom in their workplace, pretended not to see him in public places, and stopped gardening when Tom was seemingly outside. She tried to stop thinking about him, stop caring, but her stubborn heart didn't listen. She kept thinking, she kept caring. Her heart began to break a little everyday.
The moon shone a little more dim than usual. Rae knew Tom was waiting for his girl. Someone she wanted so bad didn't want her. He whom she loved the most loved other girl. The one she wanted the most wanted her the last.
She decided to leave. Trying to stay was harder than leaving. So that was the first thing she'd do in the morning.
She stood up. She needed to sleep. Otherwise, she wouldn't be able to catch the first flight that left this town tomorrow.
...
The one she wanted the most wanted her the last. So she left. It was for her own good.
