Eye of the Storm
"Hey. There's a giant metallic storm ahead of us. I think we can hide in the eye of the storm. It should give off enough interference so that we can't we tracked."
You looked at the giant swirling death whirlpool and thought for a moment. Yes, Pidge was right, but you had another idea.
'Lightning... storm... thunder... Thor...' You placed a hand on your chin. The castle flew through the storm and landed right in the middle of it.
"Brilliant Pidge. We're essentially invisible to any radar, radio waves, universal scans, or any other know technology."
The alarms began blaring again and Zarkon's ship appeared above you all.
"You just had to say that," you grumbled. You looked at P/n then at the storm. It's worth a shot. Without a word you turned and began to run out of the control room.
"Wait! Where are you going?" Lance asked you. You stopped and turned to look at him.
"I have another idea," you replied.
"You can't keep putting your life at risk if Zarkon is just going to track us again," Keith reasoned.
"It's not putting my life at risk if I know what I'm doing."
"Do you know what you're doing?"
"... uh... sort of..."
"Y/n!"
"Just trust me okay! From your position in the storm you should be fine!" You replied, running out of the room and flying P/n up and into the storm. You stood on her head and could barely see anything with your hair whipping in your face.
"Y/n, if you're going to do something, do it now!" Allura's panicked voice said. You sighed and closed your eyes before opening your left eye, causing it to glow. Lightning sparked around your form before spreading through the storm.
The lightning shocked the fighters and caused them to explode. Lightning sparked around your eye, causing it to burn intensely. The more fighters that swooped down the more explosions happened. Your eye twitched before a small stream of blood trailed down your cheek.
"Guys...! Please hurry and formulate a plan!" You strained out, having a harder time to conduct lightning. P/n roared and assisted you by sending even stronger lightning through the storm. There was a low humming noise and you looked up to see a large ball of energy aiming towards you.
"Y/n, move!" Shiro shouted. You cancelled out your move and tiredly, but hurriedly entered P/n and blasted out of there before the ion canon type thing shot a powerful laser beam at you. You flew into the hangar and collapsed to the floor as soon as you jumped out of P/n. You laid on the floor and stayed there for a moment, ignoring the rumbling and shaking of the castle. You raised your arm and wiped away the blood.
"Y/n! We need your help!" Allura's voice echoed through the radio.
"Yeah... on my way," you replied tiredly, sitting up. When you got to the control room the paladins weren't there.
"What do you need me to do?" You asked.
"Go help Coran with the teleduv," she replied. You nodded and ran as fast as you could down to where Coran was. When you got there, the floor was covered in sweat. You tried not to pay much attention to that.
"Why haven't we wormholed yet?" Keith asked.
"Because we can't! We're missing several scaultrite lens-stones! They've shattered! Gone! Don't exist! Sloven day ho! That's Altean for gone."
You ignored him and went to the control panel to check the stats of the castle and the teleduv.
'Is ice a good substitute for scaultrite?' You facepalmed yourself for that ridiculous notion.
~
'How did I end up here?' You thought. You were hanging upside down with two cookies in your hands.
"Now, nobody move if you want to live," Coran instructed. The castle shook from an explosion.
"I think I moved! I think I moved!"
"Well then move back to where you think you were!" Coran exclaimed, "Okay, now I'm going to monitor the beam from out there." He slid out of the room.
"Wait, Coran! How dangerous is this?" Hunk asked. Coran slid to a stop.
"Honestly, this is the most dangerous thing I've ever seen, or heard of, but since we're probably going to die anyway, what the heck??! Let's give it a shot!!"
You deadpanned at him.
"Good luck, gentlemen and gentleladies. It's been a pleasure. Don't touch the lasers!" He finished while saluting before the door slowly closed.
"We're all gonna die..." You said monotonously.
"Don't say that!" Lance exclaimed. The teleduv activated.
"We're gonna die! We're gonna die! We're gonna die!"
"OH SO NOW YOU'RE ALLOWED TO SAY THAT!"
Laser beams shot out of the main generator and first hit Lance's cookie, but fizzled out.
"Great..."
Coran appeared and slid to the farthest end of the room.
"What's happening?" Shiro asked.
"No one move! I've got to shine these stones! Good thing I've got a case of the slipperies!" He replied, shimmying the sweat off of his body.
"I... didn't need to see that..." You said quietly. Coran went to each of you and shined the stones with his sweat. The teleduv activated before Coran was finished and the beams bounced off of the stones.
"AhhhhhhhHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!" Your yelling raised in volume and in pitch. You closed the eyes from the blinding light. The door slowly slid open and Allura was on the other side.
"Great work team! We made it! Huh?"
Everyone was groaning in various degrees of pain. You and Lance both fell to the floor at the same time.
~
"There's no time debating this farther. Zarkon is clearly tracking us through me."
"What?"
"Awe, space baloney."
"That's not possible."
"Why would that be so hard to believe? Zarkon's forces showed up on Arus only after I awoke," Allura explained.
"She's got a point. I would absolutely travel across the galaxy to find you--GAH!"
"Lance."
"It's not you, Princess Allura. It's me," Keith said from further across the room.
"Because?" Hunk inquired.
"I just think Zarkon must've imprinted on me during our fight or something," he explained.
"Okay, okay, hold up," you sighed. Everyone turned their attention to you. "First off, there are a lot of missing pieces with both of your statements." You looked between Allura and Keith.
"What do you mean?" Allura asked.
"Like, for instance, Zarkon's commander, Sendak, appeared after you woke up, yes. But for whatever reason he has, why wouldn't he send his forces as soon as he could? We only had one lion at that point," you began to explain.
"Because I have connection to the lions. Why wouldn't he use me to track them?" Allura inquired.
"If he tracked you, then wouldn't he have attacked the moment you awakened? Don't you think it's fishy that Sendak didn't show up until after the Black Lion was activated?"
Allura went silent at that.
"Look, it doesn't matter how he's tracking us, because we're gonna take the fight to the Galra soon enough," Shiro intervened.
'It sort of does...' You thought, deadpanning at him.
"They've been chasing us from galaxy to galaxy. The last thing they expect is for us to come after them," Shiro explained.
"The hunter becomes the hunted, hmm? Awesome!" Lance piped up. Keith looked at him with an eyebrow raised. "That's the tag line from like six of my favorite movies."
"As it happens, I took our list of recent Galra attacks and analyzed it for both commonalities and anomalies among the attack sites," Pidge started, sitting on her chair. "I was hoping to create and algorithm that would, within a statistically acceptable margin of error, provide a list of target-rich Galra environments--color coded, of course, because what are we, animals?" The map extended throughout the room with different constellations and planets.
"Cool! What is it again?"
"It's a Galra finder?" Hunk asked.
"Well, 'finder' suggests that it locates the Galra, whereas it would be more accurate to say that my model predicts their likeliest..." She glanced over at you all and saw them staring at her. "Fine. It's a Galra finder."
"So, where are the Galra?" Lance asked.
"The nearest ones are right here. A planet called Taujeer," Pidge replied, showing it on the map.
"Then that's where we're headed," Shiro said, "Everyone should get some sleep. Tomorrow we'll find that Galra fleet and take it out." You and the rest of the group, excluding Keith and Shiro, walked out of the control room. You stopped in the doorway and looked back to see Shiro talking to Keith before the latter turned around and walked away. You glanced at P/n before leaving.
Ja ne!
