The Big Day
A/n: Keep in mind that I don't know any law stuff nor have I done any research. I'm just channeling my inner Ncis and Csi Miami binge half. Don't quote me on anything.
Wolfie smiled at Danny who was fretting about, patting his suit down and muttering under his breath. "Baby, the suit is fine. Everything is going to be okay," he comforted, grabbing hold of Danny's hand so that he could pull the Omega closer, wrapping his arm around his hip even with his distended tummy between them.
Danny looked into his eyes, his own reflecting his worry back at Wolfie. "But..." He turned to the side so that he could rest his face against the Alpha's chest. "This case is gonna be the biggest one of your car-" he broke off as Wolfie began chuckling. He looked up at the Alpha, eyebrows furrowed in confusion. "What?"
"This is not and will never be the biggest case of my career," he chuckled and combed a hand through the Omega's hair. "Yeah, I do admit that it's gonna be swarmed by reporters but it certainly isn't any career defining one. The most that I lose is money and that's no big issue for me because it's just money. My parents on the otherhand have more to lose than gain. They filed a lawsuit against their own son because of greed and is actively trying to get me admitted to a mental facility because of money. Babe, I'm not worried but I sure as hell am not going down without a fight." He leaned down and placed a kiss on the Omega's lips. "I get that you're worried but please don't. Believe that I would never ever leave you and no matter what, the only thing I'll probably lose is money today, not my freedom. I want you to stay home and relax. Going to this trial would probably raise your pressure and I want your pregnancy to last full term for the sake of our pup and your health."
At the mention of him missing the trial, Danny huffed and slanted his eyes at him.
"Yeah... I know it's not fair but it's what's best for you and you know that." He sighed as his phone beeped and he didn't bother checking it. "That is my signal that it's time to leave so with that said, I love you and try not to worry..." Danny quirked an eyebrow at him and he huffed out a laugh. "... much."
He hummed and allowed Wolfie to kiss him before he pulled away with a sigh of regret. "I'll see you later with hopefully good news. But if not, get the ice cream ready and let's binge watch every episode of Brookyln99."
Danny could help but laugh, resting his forehead against Wolfie's suit-clad chest. "Sounds like a plan."
Nodding slightly, he wrapped Danny in his arms for a couple more seconds before pulling away. "I'd best leave now before I'm late. Now I'm not sure, but you should be able to watch the court proceedings on the telly."
"Okay then... Love you...and... and good luck."
Wolfie nodded and repeated the sentiments before before he began gathering his briefcase and everything else he needed. "Take care and try to relax."
Danny only nodded, watching as he left the house, closing the door behind him with a low 'click.'
How the heck could he not worry?
His Alpha's freedom was on the line along with his finances because of his greedy parents and the entire ordeal was gonna be televised for all to see.
He was in two minds about watching it but decided against it. He wanted to learn the aftermath from Wolfie so in the meantime, he was gonna relax as much as he could.
He could go and search for a house to move to since Wolfie had suggested Kingston upon Thames as Jackson was living in that area and it was also close to his job.
So with a sigh of defeat, he went to get the extra laptop from their bedroom. He would try his hardest not to focus on Wolfie's trial because he had the most important task of carrying their pup to term and with one more month left, he didn't want to go into early labour.
He would trust Wolfie to handle everything.
It was really all he could do.
...
Wolfie fixed his suit and ignored the numerous camera flashed in his face. Jackson and Victor were flanking his sides with the latter coming for support while Jackson would be his Solicitor in this case.
He had already given the case files to him and all he had to do was memorise everything because he had a plan going into the courtroom and they needed to stick to it.
Even if he lost, his parents weren't coming out unscathed and he would do his best to ruin their reputation by the end of this.
"Mr Hadrian! Mr Hadrian!"
"-uick comment, Wolfie?!"
"Wolfie, Wolfie! Look at the camera!"
"Jackson!!"
"Wolfie, can you shed some light on the proceedings?!"
They ignored the shouted questions and entered the courtroom which was filled to the brim. There were even reporters around and he could guess as to how they got permission to tape this because as far as he knew, no one ever asked him for his two pence.
The sound of the doors closing behind them echoed for a second before silence reigned.
At the front, his parents were already seated and Wolfie only managed to stop himself from rolling his eyes at the looks on their faces.
They looked so damn smug, as if they already won. He wasn't going down without a fight and the files he had on them was enough to ruin them even if he ended up losing.
Matter-of-fact, with the information he had on them, it would be pretty suspicious that they ended up winning but hey, everyone had a price, you just had to find it.
...
"So Mrs Hadrian, how would you describe the defendant, Wolfie Hadrian?" The Solicitor asked.
Wolfie honestly couldn't remember the man's name even though he was the one who had replaced River.
But enough of that, his eyebrows crinkled slightly at the pathetic display his mother was putting on. She dabbed at her eye with a handkerchief before she began spouting bullshit.
"Oh, I don't know where to start," she began, sniffling lowly. "He's my child and to see his rationality deterioring like this breaks my heart and as a mother, it's my responsibility to look out for him when he makes bad decisions. Wolfie is hard working but I fear that he is way in over his head by getting Mated and Married so quickly. I fear that he would mismanage his finances in an effort to please those closest to him as he isn't used to sharing his life with another person. I don't want my grandchild to grow up in poverty and with Wolfie's recent behaviour, I fear such a thing coming to past." She sobbed once more for good measure and her Solcitior asked to take her off the stand because of how emotional she was.
All-the-while, Wolfie just shook his head at the display.
Pathetic.
Even his arsehole never pushed out that much shit. They should create an award for her in the Guinness Book of World Records for that performance.
"Your honor if I may question the Plaintiff," Jackson intoned as he stood up, grabbing a folder off of the table as he walked out from behind the desk.
He didn't know what Persephone's Solicitor was trying but there was no way that Jackson was allowing her to leave the stand after attacking Wolfie's mental state.
"Approved."
He titled his head in gratitude then approached Persephone who was still putting on her display. "Mrs Hadrian, you just stated that you believe that Mr Wolfie Hadrian's mental state is deteoriating because of his recent Mated and Marriage status. How exactly did you come to such a conclusion after coming into contact with Mr Wolfie Hadrian once after the earlier statement? As a witness to this, I honestly saw no reason to believe that Mr Wolfie Hadrian's mental health should be in question. So please tell us how you reached to such a conclusion."
"Objection! Mr Whittaker should not be over preceeding over this case as it would be a conflict of interest seeing as he is also a witness."
The judge looked at him after the Solicitor, Marx or something finished speaking.
"Your Honor, if I were to be dismissed then the same should go for Mr And Mrs Hadrian as they are also witnesses. I came her to defend my client against these allegations and as far as the law goes, as a witness, I have the right to challenge the testimonies being brought forth. Therefore, my presence as Mr Wolfie Hadrian's Solicitor shouldn't be considered a conflict of interest else this case be thrown out or put on hold with the presence of his parents."
There were scattered murmurs throughout the court and the judge banged the gavel.
"Order!" Everyone immediately calmed down and the Judge continued. "Seeing as Mr Whittaker's points are valid and to remove him from the courtroom would call for the same action against the Plaintiffs despite them being the originators of this case, Motion sustained. Mr Whittaker would remain as Mr Hadrian's Solicitor."
Wolfie smirked at his mother and he could see her eyes momentarily narrowing into slits.
"Now that that's dealt with, Mrs Hadrian. Please answer the question," Jackson spoke up, looking at the Woman with an eyebrow raised.
She cleared her throat and looked to be composing herself before she answered, obviously taking her time so that she wouldn't incriminate herself. "Well it's quite obvious, isn't it? I know my son and I've never seen him behave in such a fashion during my visit so of course I'll be worried. Not to mention I fear that his current mate isn't suitable and is contributing to his men-" Jackson immediately cut her off.
"Mrs Hadrian, I asked you for the reason why you believe Mr Wolfie Hadrian's mental health is deteriorating. All you've said is that his recent Mating and Marriage is the cause and you're even blaming his Omega mate who isn't here to defend himself. I want a reason that anyone could conclude and not your own personal reasons as it seems that you seem to not like his Omega."
"Objection, your Honor!" Marx shouted, coming to stand next to Jackson. "Your Honor, Mr Whittaker's is obviously intimidating the witness into changing her statement. I ask that his line of questioning be withdrawn."
"Actually," Jackson cut in. "Your Honor, my questions are all connected to what's been told my Mrs Hadrian and I'm simply trying to connect the dots. Mrs Hadrian believes that Mr Wolfie Hadrian's Omega is the cause of his Mental state deteriorating as she's stating that it started as he got Mated and Married. How am I intimidating the Plaintiff by using her own words in an effort to understand where her 'diagnosis' originates?" He looked at Marx expectantly.
Was this guy for real? How long had he been a Solicitor.
"Understandable. Mr Marx, I see no reason why Mrs Hadrian cannot answer as Mr Whittaker's questioning coincides with what the Plaintiff has already stated. Motioned sustained. Please answer the question Mrs Hadrian."
Marx cleared his throat and fixed his tie in embarrassment before walking back to his seat.
Tsk tsk.
What did he expect? Jackson wasn't considered one of the best Solicitors around for nothing. He could handle his own with the best of them.
He looked back at Persephone who was looking a wee bit nervous as her eyes shifted to her Solicitor and husband then back at Jackson.
"Mrs Hadrian, please tell the court why you believe that Mr Wolfie Hadrian's Mental health began deteoroating after he got Mated and Married to his Omega."
"Well...I... Mother's intuition. My son tastes usually run differently and seeing his Omega only confirms to me that something is obviously wrong."
Oh really?
Jackson chuckled inwardly and turned to the jury who was looking on in confusion and curiosity. "So what Mrs Hadrian is saying as that her son's choice in Mates give her reason to believe that he is becoming Mentally unfit. As a witness during this revelation, I can say that the only major difference between Mr Wolfie Hadrian's past relationships and his current one is the colour of his Omega's skin."
"Objection! Mr Whittaker is implying that my Client is racist!"
"Overruled! Mr Whittaker is there evidence to suggest that the Plaintiff has exhibited signs of racial discrimination as you are stating that it is connected with Mrs Hadrian's beliefs?"
Jackson nodded. "I do, your Honor. As a witness, I saw firsthand how Mr and Mrs Hadrian's behaviour changed after meeting my client's Omega and in my hand contains statements made by everyone present bar Mr and Mrs Hadrian during the one instance where my client's mental health was being questioned. In my hand there are six different statements belaying the fact that Mrs Hadrian portrayed discriminative behaviour after being introduced to the cultural foods made by my client's Omega." Jackson began handing the statements out to the jury before handing one to Marx and the judge.
He watched in barely concealed glee as the jury began frowning along with the judge seconds later.
"I admit that this looks like solid evidence but as stated in these files, almost all the witnesses are related to Mr Hadrian's Omega and therefore, their statements could be false," The judge intoned, looking at him imploringly.
"That may be true your Honor but given that these interviews of sort were being monitored and conducted by Dr Patrick, there could be no question regarding their credibility. And just for evidence, here's a recount of Dr Patrick's diagnosis." He stepped forward and handed the document to the judge.
He looked at Wolfie who was looking at his Mum with an unreadable look on his face.
He was probably laughing his arse off right now and Jackson kinda envied his poker face.
"Mr Whittaker."
He turned to look back at the judge who sighed and placed the documents to the side. "Given that the evidence submitted originates from the other witness who have not been mentioned by Mr and Mrs Hadrian-" here he looked at said people before continuing. "-I'll allow their use as long as it continues being relevant to your line of questioning and what have been said by the Plaintiffs."
Jackson inclined his head and looked back at Mrs Hadrian who looked to be trying her best to stay composed.
"Now, Mrs Hadrian. You already stated that you believe that my client's mental health began deteriorating after Mating, that is correct?"
She nodded sharply. "Yes."
Jackson hummed and turned to look at the jury. "That's interesting because during my client's last relationships, you never entertained such a though-"
"Objection!" Marx bellowed.
Did he love the word or something?
"Your Honor," he intoned, turning to look at the judge. "I assure you that my line of questioning has a purpose."
The judge frowned thoughtfully. "Very well. But please try and get to that point."
"As I was saying. Mrs Hadrian, as a witness and a close companion to Wolfie Hadrian, I've been in close proximity with him during his previous and current relationships and I've never gotten an indication to suggest that his Mental Health should be put into question and neither have you as you've met with my client's previous partners. Please tell the court why his current relationship gives you cause of worry more than the previous because as stated before, the only different is the colour of the Omega's sk-"
"Object-" Marx was cut off by the sound of the judge's gavel.
"Mr Marx! I believe that we've already established that Mr Whittaker's line of questioning also pertains to our case and as such, your continued disruptions hold no grounds." The judge was frowning and Jackson could swear he heard Wolfie snort.
Jackson wiped at his mouth to hide a smile.
Mr and Mrs Hadrian obviously couldn't find a decent Solicitor willing to go against Wolfie ever since River bailed.
Right pity, innit?
"Mr Whittaker, do continue."
"Thank you, your Honor..."
...
There were finally able to move forward without Marx jumping up after every sentence spoken by Jackson.
Mr Hadrian had already testified and Jackson happily tore his testimony apart. He was sure that Marx didn't need to go to gym for the week after all the jumping he's been doing.
Hell, he had been tempted to offer him some water because only people with a sugar rush couldn't keep still.
So now, they had Dr Patrick on the stand and it was his testimony which would make or break them so he was hoping that he had nothing negative to say.
"Dr Patrick," The judge began, already looking annoyed with this case.
There were trying to get everything wrapped up today or they would've called for a recess.
Ugh.
"Would you be so kind as to give us the diagnosis for Wolfie Hadrian from his Psychiatric evaluation?"
Dr Patrick steepled his fingers and looked at them with a look of neutrality on his face. He was here to deliver his diagnosis and be done with it. This was like any other client he's met with even though the situation was more high profile.
"Well," he started calmly. "After my evaluation, it's imperative for me to say that my patient Mr Wolfie Hadrian is of rational sound and mind. Despite numerous attempts to sway my diagnosis-" here he looked at Persephone and Hadrian who shifted their gazes before continuing "-I can say with absolute confidence that Mr Wolfie Hadrian is more than stable to retain ownership of his finances etcetera."
It went downhill from there... For Persephone and Hadrian that is.
The absolute best thing about witnessing their eventual downfall was the fact that everything was being broadcasted over live tv.
Gosh, he loved teaming up with Jackson.
He was the type to go straight to the point but Jackson enjoyed embarrassing the fuck out of people while looking professional about it.
"-beth Constantine to the stand!"
He was brought out of his thoughts as they called for some woman he swore he's never met before.
He looked over at his parents to see the almost invisible smirk on their faces.
Okay... Who the heck was this woman?
As if knowing the direction of his thoughts, she looked over at him and smiled.
He chuckled lightly under his breath. If she was who he was thinking he was, then she was in for a shock.
"Miss Constantine," Marx began, glancing at Wolfie smugly. "Can you please recount your interaction with Mr Hadrian? Do not leave anything out."
The woman Constantine cleared her throat before she began. "Well... I first came in contact with Mr Hadrian at the Hospital wh-"
Ohh, he was right. She was the receptionist from the Hospital where he had went into a rage against the security guards.
Well good luck to her because he's already prepared for this from every angle.
It paid off to be the best in the business ya know.
