Chapter 47

The portal opened up to the arena and everyone stepped out of it, looking around. Their eyes widened as they saw Satsuki casually standing there with her katanas sheathed and her arms crossed, as if she'd been waiting for them.

"So you all are leaving?"

The redhead stared at the rest of the group. Daisy nodded.

"...I will not help you," Satsuki told them, turning around. "For this is my home, and I will not kill Mario or Pauline. However, I will not stop you. Besides, the people outside are rather enticing..."

"Wait," Daisy shook her head, her blue eyes widening. "When we break the last star, will... will you be continuing your rampages... outside of here?"

"Daisy," Satsuki laughed, the sight of her pupil-less eyes throwing her off. "Why would that change? There will be even more people that are helpless.."

As Daisy looked around her, she saw that everyone in her group was turned to start walking towards the Grand Star. They didn't care if Satsuki killed everyone in the world as long as they were free.

Daisy sure as hell cared.

"You can't do that," Daisy sucked in a breath, realizing that challenging Satsuki was not smart in any way. "I-i won't let you."

"You won't let me?" Satsuki seemed equally surprised as the rest of the group. "What are you going to do about that?"

"I-I'm going...I'm going to fight you if I have to."

"Daisy, this is suicidal for yourself," Satsuki's hands went to her katanas as Daisy drew her rapier. "You know you cannot beat me. I'm offering you the chance to leave, and you are trying to kill me for it?"

"It's my life or millions of others."

Daisy dashed at Satsuki, her blade aiming for her chest as Satsuki blocked her attack easily, smirking. The redhead whipped her leg out and kicked Daisy in the stomach, sending her to the ground.

"Stop!" Saiko cried out, stepping forward and pulling out her beloved scythe. "Don't...don't fight Daisy. Satsuki said it herself, she can't beat Satsuki. But... Saiko..."

"Saiko...?" Satsuki's eye's widened and she shook her head. "No, I won't hurt you."

"Satsuki will!" Saiko grit her teeth. "If Satsuki believes in staying here, then fight like she means it!"

Kaira, they perhaps stood a chance against, because her power was toned down and because Kaira sympathized with Daisy.

Satsuki, was a bloodthirsty murderer.

Before the girl could utter another word, Saiko dashed at Satsuki, so fast that Satsuki could barely dodge it. Gritting her teeth, Satsuki had to focus all of her energy into making sure Saiko could not land a hit on her despite her speed. Ice rained on Satsuki, reminding Daisy of the tears Saiko shed.

"We can run away. We can make it. We don't have to be here anymore, Saiko," Kaira urged, the first time they tried to escape. "We can get out of here."

"And Saiko and Kaira can be together?"

"Yeah."

"Then what are we waiting for!?"

Despite being a bloodthirsty psychopath, it did strike a nerve with Satsuki as she seemed rather reluctant to hurt her beloved.

"Saiko, I don't want to hurt you."

"If Satsuki wants to kill innocents, there should be no difference with Saiko!"

Saiko swung her scythe, it's size inconveniencing her against Satsuki's smaller katanas. Satsuki didn't have a choice but to block. Saiko was naturally faster than Satsuki, forcing Satsuki to focus on dodging the huge size of her scythe. Satsuki, although slower, was stronger physically. A single blow could knock Saiko out of the water- so whenever Satsuki struck, Saiko forced herself to dodge, giving Satsuki the opportunity to fight back.

Saiko's scythe swung again, and Satsuki received two small cuts on her face that began bleeding. Satsuki growled in disbelief, almost confused that Saiko had actually struck her. Her temper overtook her, no longer holding back as her blades blocked Saiko's next blow, Muramasa striking back and slicing a wound on Saiko's leg. Satsuki quickly kicked Saiko in the stomach, making the girl double back.

"Shouldn't we help her?" Luigi questioned, but Rosalina shook her head and held Daisy back, who was struggling to assist them.

"This is their duel. If someone interrupted me while killing Pauline, I would be furious...It is best to leave it to them."

"This is unnecessary," Satsuki shook her head. "Just break the last Grand Star. I'm not in your way, what are you doing?"

"Saiko will not let you kill all of those innocent people in this world..."

Satsuki wished to be with Saiko and to rampage the world, in search of another who could make her friends come back, while Saiko wanted to just live normally with Satsuki and have the freedom she'd never had.

Both of their dreams included the other in it, but their dreams clashed and that's where it got complicated.

Satsuki grit her teeth as her power was unleashed, her blood slicing through Saiko's skin, and her blades danced as she moved around Saiko at lightening speed, leaving cuts in their place.

"Don't like katanas, do you?" Satsuki had asked the four year old bluenette. "They're so much fun, I don't know how you couldn't!"

"I don't really see how they're fun," Saiko had replied. "This scythe, on the other hand..."

"That's much too big for me," Satsuki had commented. "Probably lose too much speed."

"No, not really. At least, not for me."

While Saiko has been going hard at it from the beginning, Satsuki just now had begun to actually try as she recovered from the shock of them actually fighting.

Saiko grit her teeth as Satsuki countered Saiko's next blow, her other blade finally landing a substantial blow on Saiko's shoulder. Saiko yelped and her scythe missed its next blow from shock.

"Saiko, it doesn't have to be like this. We can be happy!" Satsuki encouraged, trying to stop the fatal blows they could occur. "We don't have to fight."

Saiko can't let it hurt now...

"Saiko doesn't want to be happy if it means other people get to live."

Her scythe swung again as Satsuki attempted to reason with her, cutting the redhead off and forcing the girl to a defensive position. Her scythe skimmed Satsuki's arm, landing another blow and Satsuki's pupil-less eyes narrowed.

"Fine," Satsuki spit, her wound closing over. "If this is how you want it to be."

Saiko rolled out of the way as Satsuki's blade swung down where she used to be. She transformed Permafrost into a rifle, shooting Satsuki desperately. The bullets she shot were run through with blood as Satsuki treated Saiko as if she was any other opponent.

Satsuki had forced Saiko to the ground as she sliced a deep cut into her leg. Saiko crashed to the ground, dropping Permafrost in the process.

Daisy had always thought the two were equal in level of power, and maybe Kaira was at the same level, but Satsuki... Satsuki was crazy. She was crushing Saiko- literally- Saiko yelping as the heel of Satsuki's boot dug into her hand, making a mess of her fingers.

"...it's funny, since when we were younger, I was the one who didn't want any blood to be spilled," Satsuki told Saiko condescendingly. "It didn't have to be this way. We could've conquered the world together, we could have had everything-"

"Killing people won't bring them back, Satsuki."

"No, but killing people gets rid of those who don't deserve life!" Satsuki argued, refusing to agree with the other girl. "I love you, but I don't understand why you don't see. I'm seeking retribution. Haven't you noticed that everyone who's died in this prison at my hands has deserved it? I'm wasting my breath right now, aren't I. Well then, you'll see when we're traveling together!"

Saiko squeezed her eyes shut as Satsuki raised her blade, aiming for her stomach to cripple the girl and shatter Saiko's chances of ever escaping.

"You've changed," Saiko cried as Satsuki finished up one of her rampages. "What happened to how sweet you were-"

Satsuki looked at her, her blank eyes staring straight past Saiko.

"My family... my mom. She shouldn't be in here. I want my family back."

"She's still here-"

"No she isn't," Satsuki replied sharply. "She's not. That woman is not my mom. I want my mom back."

"That's not all of it.. you started these rampages far before that..."

""You know the reason!" Satsuki lashed angrily. "Killia, Utari, Scarlet, Hikari. Tsuki, Luna... they're all gone. There's no hope."

"Satsuki.."

"Admit it. You've changed too."

"Saiko just wants Satsuki back..."

"I'm not..." Saiko whispered. "I'm not going with you. Saiko loves you, please forgive me, but no more killing..."

In that second, the redhead hesitated, her grip on the blade loosening. Also in that second, Saiko grabbed Permafrost in it's rifle form, taking advantage of her hesitation, and shot her right in the chest.

"S-Saiko-"

Satsuki fell back onto the ground, clutching her wound with her hands. Saiko lowered Permafrost, and crawled over to the girl, ignoring her own pain.

Satsuki lifted her hands to Saiko's cheeks as Saiko's hand went to Satsuki's wound.

"Can't you see Saiko just wants to spend time with Kaira?" Saiko's hands were placed on her shoulders, pinning her down. "How dense can Kaira be?"

Kaira slowly lifted her hands to Saiko's cheeks, cupping her face.

"I'm sorry," Kaira told her. "I'm just.. I'm sorry."

"Don't be sorry," Saiko murmured. "Just stay with Saiko."

"S-Saiko..." Satsuki whispered, betrayal obvious in her face. She couldn't manage further words as pain spread further.

"Oh my gosh," Saiko realized, her tears flying down her cheeks and onto Satsuki's face. The fairy tale was over- and Saiko was beginning to realize the consequences that came to her when she decided to kill her. "S-Satsuki... Saiko did that... Saiko did that... how could Saiko have done that!! Satsuki's going to be okay. It's okay!"

Saiko knew she'd saved millions of lives, but the only life that was important to her was the one that she herself had destroyed.

"I...."

"Saiko-Saiko's sorry, I take it back, we can travel together, Satsuki can kill everything and everyone, just please, please, let me go back and-and...please don't go..."

Satsuki winced in pain, words unable to escape her mouth. They didn't need to, though. It was obvious- the betrayal on her face, how lost she looked. No matter how much Saiko cried over her, it didn't change the fact of Satsuki shooting her.

"Satsuki!!" Saiko howled, clutching onto the girl. "I...I'm sorry.."

A tear slid down Satsuki's face as she gripped Saiko's hand tighter. Saiko sniffled, not believing that she was watching her beloved die in front of her, and that she'd been the one to cause it.

"Satsuki, please don't go.."

It was over.

Satsuki's head lolled to the side, her grasp loosening. Her eyes stared blankly into Saiko's lively blue ones. Saiko continued to hold her hand, not letting go as she began to sob.

"Saiko, it saved so many people," Daisy said softly, attempting to approach the two, but Saiko's glare was murderous. "I don't like it either, but..."

"Shut up! Saiko... Saiko should've been selfish. Saiko shouldn't have cared about those people..."

"I think we should go," Rosalina looked away. "There's no reasoning with her..."

Unfortunately, Daisy had to agree. She nodded, and they all went on their way to the last Grand Star, leaving behind the bloody hell of an arena.

"Satsuki, I'm sorry, I'm so sorry, if I could go back in time, I would... please, please forgive me..."
