Training Camp

July

A few weeks had passed and I was settling into Karasuno pretty well. My grades were up, I was really enjoying volleyball and I had made a lot of new friends. It was the night before our training camp week in Tokyo and the whole club was buzzing with excitement. Practise was suspended so that we could go home and rest. Tobio and I walked home together.

"Are you excited for tomorrow?" I asked him happily.

"Yeah, although I'm a bit nervous," he mumbled.

"Huh? Nervous, why?"

"'Cause Hinata and I had a fight."

I grumbled, recalling the bruises each of them had. When Hitoka told me about the incident, she was in a frenzy, worried about both of them. I sighed, not knowing if I had the right words to help the situation, "Well, that may be true, but this is probably the best way to fix it."

"Huh? How would spending more time with that idiot fix it?"

I frowned, "He's not an idiot, you don't need to be so mean. He loves volley just as much as you do. That's why you clash, I bet in your heads, you're thinking the same thing."

He looked up at the starry night, letting out a long sigh, "Yeah, maybe. I am just trying to do what I think is best for the team, but I don't think he sees it that way."

We approached out house, taking off our shoes at the front door. "You guys will get there eventually, you both want the exact same thing. It's about finding the right way to utilise both of your skills to the optimum."

Tobio tossed down his bag and looked at me, "You know, I think you will be a good manager, (Y/N)." I followed his back with my eyes as he walked to the dining room to get dinner.

"Yeah, I hope so."

---

I woke up to the sound of Tobio knocking on my bedroom door, trying to get me up for our trip.

"Yeah, yeah. I'm awake." I rubbed my hands over my eyes, trying my best to see in my dimly-lit room. My eyes wandered over to the suitcase I had packed, smiling at the clothes Hitoka had helped me pick out whilst we were on video call. I unplugged my phone charger from the wall and threw it in the suitcase and zipped it up, getting ready for the long day ahead.

Tobio and I walked to school together in silence, mostly because of the tiredness. As we approached, we could see the coach that Hitoka had managed to raise the money for with her posters. Everyone was already there.

"Look who showed up late!" Tanaka said loudly, messing up my hair.

"I wasn't late, you're all just too eager," I huffed, fixing it back into place.

"Ah, (Y/N) is grumpy in the morning, that's nice to know," Nishinoya smirked and boarded the bus.

When I hopped on there was only one seat left, next to Ennoshita. Hitoka had already sat beside Kiyoko.

"Is it OK if I sit here?" I asked politely.

He laughed, "As long as you're not grumpy the whole way there."

"I'll try my best, I might nap though."

I placed my backpack in the compartment above the seat and the bus bounded down the highway, taking us to Tokyo.

---

Upon arriving at our destination, all of the boys were eager to leave the bus and practically clambered out of it, where the other high schools from the area were waiting.

"I'm just glad I get to stretch my legs," I giggled to Ennoshita, who was barely even conscious. Hinata ran over to a student from another school who's head was engrossed into his phone. They seemed really happy to see each other. I looked around at all the gigantic boys that were surrounding the area and internally panicked.

That's when I looked over to Tobio, who was talking to another tall boy with jet black, spiked hair.

"Is that the Skytree?" he questioned, looking up to a standard electric pylon. I mentally face-palmed. I wasn't the only one who had a reaction, though, as the black-haired boy let out a hyena like laugh. I couldn't help but giggle along with it.

"You're an idiot, Tobio," I murmured and went to grab my backpack from the bus's storage. As I walked away, I could feel not only Tobio eyeing me, but also the black-haired guy. I picked up my luggage and faced him, "Can I help you?"

He drew possibly the most devilish smirk I had ever seen, "I don't know, maybe. I'll have to get to know you first."

My face flushed red as I wasn't expecting to answer like that. Tobio wasn't happy with the response either, "Oi, don't flirt with my sister."

"Eh? Your sister?" he looked me up and down, "Do you play?"

I looked at him, confusion etching across my face, "Huh?"

"Volleyball, idiot."

I looked down to the ground in embarrassment, wishing I'd never said a thing in the first place, "Um, no."

He laughed at my answer and walked closer to me, "Yeah, you are tiny," he smirked as he patted me on the head and walked away towards the gymnasium entrance.

I let out a breath that I wasn't aware I was holding and slumped my shoulders in annoyance, "He's weird."

The boy that Hinata was talking to earlier came towards me, "Yeah, he is," he said as he walked away, phone in hand.

Yeah, this will be weird.

---

The boys went through many games of trial and error. Most trial resulting in error. If they lost a game, they would have to perform penalties, which in all honesty, looked like they really hurt. I began to grow concerned for them, but the look of determination they had on their faces when doing them made the worries go away. They were here to change and evolve, that was for sure.

Whilst the boys were playing the games, I couldn't help but get distracted by the black-haired boy, who I came to know as Kuroo Tetsuro. He was one of the blockers for Nekomata High, and also their captain. I had to admit, he had a certain charm about him when he played. He was almost inviting, it made me realise why the team was so often reffered to as cats.

"(Y/N), what's the name of that attack they just did?" Hitoka asked me, with her small notepad and pen in hand. I looked at her with confusion.

"Huh? That wasn't an attack, he was blocking."

Hitoka giggled at me, "No, (Y/N), I meant the attack that our team did, not Nekoma's." I couldn't hide the embarrassment on my features at her noticing I was looking at them, "Say, you've been eyeing Kuroo up all game, anything you'd like to admit?"

I tried my best to act, "No?! What the hell are you talking about, I wasn't even looking at him. My words just got mixed up." Even my acting couldn't hide my prominent expression.

I heard someone stifle a laugh from behind me, looking around to see Yamaguchi smirking on the bench. Clearly he had noticed, too.

"You kind of were, (Y/N), but that's none of my business," he said as he went to switch out.

"You're all so annoying!"

They weren't wrong, and I felt kind of guilty for suggesting that they were. However, I couldn't help but be curious about him. The way he played volleyball so smoothly, how he was so flexible and agile, tall, handso-

My thoughts were cut short with a flick to my forehead, "Oi, (Y/N), you've not being paying attention this whole game. We just won," Tobio muttered.

I looked to the scoreboard and felt instantly bad that I hadn't noticed, "Oh my god, sorry. My head is in a different planet."

Hinata looked at me with concern, "Yeah, you look kind of flushed. Did you catch a cold on the way here?"

"No!" I shouted rather loudly, gaining a few odd stars, "Sorry, no. I'm fine. It's just been a long day," I sighed.

"You're right, (Y/N), we're heading back to the hostel to get some food and a good nights rest," coach Ukai addressed the team. After having a quick meeting about the games, we made our way back to the bus.

I was nearly out of the door when I remebered I had forgotten my backpack, so I quickly ran back to get it, telling the others I would just be a minute. I headed over to where we were sitting earlier, noticing my backpack was completely missing.

My eyes scanned the room, looking for it everywhere but coming up at a loss. That's when I felt a presence behind me.

"Can I help you?" Kuroo said mockingly, calling back to what I had said to him earlier.

I huffed and turned around to face him, seeing him hold my bag, "Could I have that back?" I said bluntly.

He put his free hand on his chin, as if he was genuinely pondering the question, "Hm. No."

"Huh?"

"No."

"Why?"

"Well, you can get it back, if you can pass this one challenge," he smirked.

I rolled my eyes, "What?"

He lifted my bag above his head, "Reach it."

I stared at him in surprise, wondering when I took the time machine back to elementary school, "Are you serious?"

His eyes lit up at my reaction, "Deadly."

I huffed, about to make a lunge for it when I heard another voice behind me, "Flirting with the managers already, Kuroo?" said a rather muscular guy with white hair. "Come on, we have more practising to do." I took note that he was in Fukurondani, before realising it was actually Bokuto Kotaro.

Kuroo lowered his arm to hand me back the bag, "Just so you know, I'm not flirting with you," he smirked as he put the bag in my arms and ran off to play with Bokuto and his team mates.

"What the hell was all that about then, if you weren't?"

---

We arrived at the small hostel, which Tanaka was adamant there would be a ghost in. I shivered at the thought as we checked in. All of the boys would be sharing one room and us three girls got to have our own.

"It's going to be like a week-long sleepover," Hitoka said excitedly.

Kiyoko and I smiled at her, "I'm really excited," Kiyoko replied.

I smiled at the girls, "Me too! I've never been to a training camp before."

"It's a perfect opportunity for us to bond as friends," Kiyoko said, "I've never really had that many friends before, so it's nice to have some people around me at all times."

Hitoka and I giggled at her as she blushed. After eating a meal, all of us retreated to our rooms to unpack our stuff. Hitoka, Kiyoko and I did so and we decided to go for a bath together.

The bathroom was nice and steamy and warm, and I was only a tiny bit nervous about being in there with two other beautiful girls. We sat down and soaked ourselves, I felt my muscles getting looser the longer we sat there.

"How did you guys find today?" Kiyoko asked.

Hitoka smirked, looking at me, "Why don't you ask (Y/N)?"

Kiyoko looked over at my blushing face, "What happened? Did something happen, (Y/N)?"

"No. Hitoka just lets her fantasies get wild," I looked away from them.

"Oh, do I? Well, the face you're making right now suggests otherwise."

I looked back at her, "Shut up! Nothing happened, Kiyoko."

"I see, I see," she replied.

Hitoka looked like if she couldn't talk, she would burst, "I totally saw you and Kuroo flirting when you went back for your backpack!"

She stunned me for a minute, "Huh?!"

"You totally left it there, didn't you? So you'd have the option to go back and talk to him."

Kiyoko glanced between us in our exchange as we got progressively louder, "Of course not! What do you take me for?! He stole it anyways, how was I to know he'd do that?!"

"Hm, maybe he likes you back then," Kiyoko mused nonchalantly.

I stared at her, my face practically beetroot at this point, "EH! Kiyoko, don't say things like that! There's nobody liking anybody here, okay?!"

The two girls burst into a fit of giggles as I slumped further and further down into the bath. As we finished our bath, I picked up my phone to see yet another onslaught of hatred towards myself. It felt like anywhere I turned, I could never catch a break or have something good happen.

Y/N is a slut.

Y/N is a whore.

Y/N is this, Y/N is that, it all became the same boring shit after a while.

And I was getting sick of it.
