Chapter 6
You awoke the next morning and you lay in bed for a bit. Your ankle was much better and no longer hurt. There was a rhythmic pitter-patter on your windows as the rain hit them. "At least I don't have to water my crops today," you said aloud to yourself. Your pet was asleep on the floor, out of the rain. You got out of bed. Your dog/cat lifted its head, curious about what you were doing. "I'm guessing you want food?" You smiled and fed it. It meowed/barked in thanks and returned to sleep. You changed and walked outside. The rain was a welcome change from the summer heat. Wasn't too cold and wasn't too hot. You looked up, the sky was covered in grey clouds. "So they're not storm clouds... those'd be much darker." You didn't recall if it ever rained in the city, it must've, sometimes, obviously, but by the time you had left your hellhole of a previous job at Joja, you had been emotionless. You felt much happier as a farmer, more than you could ever feel at your previous job. You glanced up at your Pomegranate Tree sapling. "She's growing nicely." You giggled to yourself giddily as you imagined what the look on Elliott's face would be when you eventually gave a pomegranate to him. The tree felt like it was judging you, when it couldn't. "I know, I'm pathetic aren't I?" You asked it. Then a thought crossed your mind. "I'm talking to a tree...." You turned around. "They probably think I'm crazy, heh." You turned back to the tree. "Then again, they never see me talking to the plants." You walked over to the pond and refilled your watering can. "I won't need this today." You walked into town. You had lost track of time. Unsurprisingly, no one was out and about. You jumped over a puddle and giggled a bit.
"Y.../N?" You jumped and turned around. Shane was staring at you.
"Oh! Sorry, I thought no one was around." Shane looked ahead.
"I was on my way to work... it still runs in this damn rain...." he grimaced at the sky.
"You're quite friendly this morning."
"Don't get used to it girl," he grumbled and walked off. You narrowed your eyes, thinking.
"He always acts like someone got on his nerves," you muttered coolly to yourself. Leaving Shane to his own accord, You walked in the opposite direction. You eventually wandered onto the beach. Near Elliott's house you heard the sound of a pencil hitting wood. Most likely Elliott writing for his book. You sighed, admiring the hard work. You shook yourself. You crossed the tiny bridge to the piece of land. Something was different. There was a man on the beach. You had never seen him before. Unless he only appeared in the rain, but what human would only appear in the rain? You didn't make eye contact as you went about your business. You walked back past Elliott's house and went to your farm. You didn't go to bed just yet. You petted your dog/cat and then went to sleep.
