Chapter 4
The sun woke you up. His rays peered through your window. You got up. You walked over to the window and stood by it, looking out. You sighed, ready for another day. After doing the usual, you walked into town. You didn't really know what do in town today. You eventually decided to go mining. You went to the mine. You mined for awhile. You saw the ladder for the next floor. As you climbed down it, you missed a rung and fell. Somehow, you landed on your knees. A sharp pain shot up your leg as you tried to stand. Fighting the pain, you hobbled towards the elevator. Your legs were grazed a bit, probably from the momentum of the fall pushing you forward a bit. It hurt. A lot. You left the mine, hobbling. You took the shorter path back to the farm, and went inside, breathing heavily, and in pain. "I should probably get it checked out by Harvey..." Wincing, you left your house. The doctor's wasn't too far away. You burst through the door. Harvey took one look at your leg and whisked you off to the back room. He examined you throughly.
"I'm going rub some disinfectant on the graze and bandage it up, so you don't run the risk of getting an infection. You also appear to have twisted your ankle..." his words were Greek to you, well not all of them. You had not taken a medical degree in university. You could've diagnosed the ankle yourself, and you wondered why you didn't. Harvey glanced up at you. "Were you mining?"
Surprised, you answered,"yes."
"That explains it," he said quietly.
"Are you done?"
"You're in a rush?"
"No."
"Well then," Harvey chuckled. "Tell Elliott I say hi. You're free." You blushed but stood up. As you headed for the door, Harvey's voice rang out,"Elliott is quite a looker, I can see why you're pulse races when he's around." You made an unintelligible sound as you left the building. You hobbled off, heading towards the beach. You collected some shells and then returned to your farm.
The next day, you did the usual but with an added slowness because of your injury. You headed straight for the beach. After picking up some shells to sell, you found yourself staring at Elliott's house. You walked towards it and opened the door. Elliott was looking at a piece of paper on his desk. He turned around. "Ah. Y/N. Come in!" You walked inside the house and over to Elliott. "Welcome to my humble.... Well, shack," Elliott said, looking away. He turned back to the desk. "This is my writing desk, where I spend most of my time. For as long as I can remember, I've wanted to be a writer. Have I told you before?" You remained silent watching him. Elliott continued,"That's why I live out here by myself, I figured a lonely life by the sea would me focus on my aspirations... everyone said I was nuts... that I could never make it as a writer. Can you believe it? They said, 'For every successful author there's a thousand who fail miserably.' Such pessimism... it's sickening." He paused and turned toward you. You remained silent gazing up at the handsome man. "I can see it in your eyes... you believe in me, Y/N. You've got that spark."
"I-I do?" You managed out, but Elliott didn't seem to hear you. Maybe you whispered it? You didn't know.
"Now that's inspiring!" Elliott continued. "That's what I'm looking for.... a question, if I may Y/N, what kind of books do you like?"
Surprised, You stammered,"I-I'm quite partial to Romance novels, y-you know the ones with the gallant knight and fair damsel? I'm not saying they'd have to be fairytales, I like a-any kind of romance novels."
"Romance, huh?" Elliott said half to himself. "It's definitely an exciting genre. I'll remember that. Well! Enough talk about me!" He regarded you for a moment. "Hmm... you probably know a lot about plants, don't you?"
"Well, I-I wouldn't say I'm an expert but, I guess..."
"Would you mind taking a look at this rose, here? I'm afraid it's not doing so well." You walked up to the rose and observed it.
"It does seem a bit wilted..."
"Do you think it's from the sea water?"
"Probably.... anyway I have to go now, see you!"
"See you."
