Chapter 13
Since the day you heard Elliott play the piano, his behavior had changed slightly. If, he saw you he stopped whatever he was doing and walked over to you. Today, the conversation he had with Leah ended abruptly when he saw you. The only words you had heard of the conversation were "she's cute." And it had come from Elliott. Leah glanced at you and left. "Hey, Y/N!" He said with a lot more enthusiasm than usual. "You're looking great as usual today." You giggled at the compliment.
"Elliott you tease!," you replied, playfully patting him on the chest. "And you're looking perfect as usual." You knew you were trying to flirt even though you weren't very good at it. Elliott's compliment was probably one of friendship. Elliott had turned a hardly noticeable shade of red and you didn't notice it.
"Thank you," He said, grinning. "What are you doing today?"
"Not sure yet."
"Then let's take a walk, Shall we?" Elliott didn't add 'as friends' this time, causing you to question the fact he might... for the first time. "News spreads fast in this town," Elliott commented as you walked. "It's how we find out about things like you moving into town."
"Makes sense I suppose," you said. "We have a community here. Everyone knows everyone." Elliott glanced at you when you said 'we'. He turned his head back around.
"And some might know the others better," Elliott added to himself. He gazed at you and didn't remove it until you turned your head. "How are you enjoying life here in Pelican Town?"
"Oh me? I quite enjoy it here," you replied. Elliott smiled.
"That's good," He said. "I guess one one your favourite animals is jellyfish?" He asked, referring to the festival you had been at.
"Yeah, and I took Biology in school," you said. "I still don't know why I got a job at Joja and not something to do with Biology." Elliott gazed at you. "But anyway, how's you book coming?"
"Well. You gave me a new vigor to write it, after you said farm life was hard." Elliott looked at the ground. "I'd like to think I'd finish it faster now."
"That's awesome! I'm actually curious to read it now." Elliott giggled.
"It's not done yet!" He laughed. "But I like that you're interested in it." He gazed at the ocean. You had completely forgotten about the fact you were walking. "The ocean is calming at times. But I'm not feeling calm for some reason." He quickly looked at you, and then back at the ocean. "I do wonder why the change, but's okay. It's not a bad feeling," he paused looking at you with a soft expression,"it's a good one."
"The sea is calming," you said, completely missing his last few statements. "The rhythmic coming in and going out of the waves. Really calming..." You leaned on him and he tensed. "And also really beautiful..." You sighed. "Look, crabs," you said and pointed at the shore line. The tiny crustaceans were digging holes in the sand.
"I see." Elliott murmured.
"Elli, do you like living by the ocean?"
"I do, it's calming but I also want try living somewhere different, just for a change of pace you know."
"I know. I didn't feel happy at all back in the city. The job bored me to no end, after a while I stopped feeling anything." Elliott glanced at you for the fifth time.
"But when you came here you started feeling emotions again," he added. "This place freed you."
"In a way, yes." You gazed at him and he at you. Your eyes had locked but you didn't realize it. You looked at the sky, white fluffy clouds swimming in a light blue ocean. "This walk was nice," you said. You hadn't noticed how close you were. "Thank you for it."
"Well, anytime you want to chat while walking give me call," Elliott said. "Shall I walk you back to your house?" You blushed.
"That... would be nice."
