Chapter Twenty-Five

Waking up to strong hands shaking her, Jade's eyes flung open at the sight of Kylo hovering over her. His helmet was on already, his stance seeming to be rigid and tense. "Wake up, our mission has been moved up. Be in the hangar in 30 minutes." Taking her tired eyes and small frame in for one last moment before turning to leave.

Jade swung her legs over the bed and rubbed her eyes, sleepily. This was her first mission and she didn't want to look bad in front of the higher ups. Summoning enough strength to stand, she flung on her training clothes and attached her cloak. She ran into the bathroom to quickly braid her hair, feeling the tightness against her scalp. A familiar feeling that she missed so much.

Once ready, she paced out of their quarters and down to the hangar. Passing by multiple Stormtroopers, who were lightly jogging in the same direction. Whatever changed, it must be serious.

Reaching the hangar, she walked up to Kylo and Hux, who were standing beside each other. Another person stood in front of the two, someone Jade had never met before. "Your troops need to be ready in 5 minutes, Captain Phasma. There must be no slip ups. All men must be ready for battle. When they reach the grounds, fire at will." The armor-clad Captain nodded at Hux before taking off to inform the troopers.

Kylo turned slightly, seeing Jade standing beside him. "Jade. Follow me."

As the two walked side-by-side, Jade looked around at the chaos ensuing. "What is going on? What happened?" A soft sigh escaped Kylo's mask as they pressed on, up the ramp of his ship.

"The Resistance has found sanctuary on a new base. They somehow found out of our plan. We need to go and take them out." Kylo seemed to be aiming towards something, his steps intentional. On the co-pilot's seat was a black hilt to a lightsaber, similar to the one she had used during training. He held it in his hand, turning to hand it to her. "You will use this when we arrive."

After handing it to her, he was about to go back down the ramp. She turned, still gripping onto the lightsaber. "Wait! Where are we going?"

A sudden sense of hesitation and tension in his body, the same rigidness coming back to him as he stood still. He didn't dare look at her when he said, "Takodana."

It had been a few minutes since Kylo broke the news to her. Her home planet. It had only been a few weeks since the attack happened but it felt like years since she had seen her home. Or what was left of it. Once he told her their destination, she slunk down into the co-pilot's seat, her mind wracking with thoughts.

Flooded with memories. Filled with nerves and rage. At home, she was fighting to keep her people safe against The First Order. Now she was fighting with them. It didn't feel right, but it was already too late.

Hearing engines start to roar around her, she quickly looked over her shoulder as Kylo stomped up the ramp. As it closed behind him, he sat in the pilot's seat, starting up their ship. As tightly as she could, she pulled her legs into her chest, needing the feeling of comfort.

Kylo tore off his helmet, giving him a better view of the sky as he was about to take off. He glanced over at her, seeing her shuddering from fear. Or nerves. He wasn't sure, but all he knew was she needed someone. His hesitant hand reached over to her, placing it on her knee. "It'll be all right." Giving her a small smile, even though she didn't return it, he began to drive the ship into the darkness.

Jumping into light speed, it only took a few minutes before they were approaching her planet. Jade's mouth was dry, eyes peeled as they flew into the atmosphere. What would her home look like now? The TIE fighter soared through the sky, approaching the shore where Maz's castle once stood.

Jade's eyes filled with tears as she looked upon it all. It was destroyed, all of it destroyed. She could see her home in the distance, barely standing. Overwhelmed with the memories, she sniffled and wiped her wet cheeks. Gripping onto her necklace, they landed gently onto the solid ground. Quickly, Kylo stood and stepped over to the ramp. "Jade..." He called to her, but she didn't move.

Paralyzed with fear, nerves, sadness, and guilt. Her small frame clung tightly to itself as she sat, staring out onto the burned remains of her former home. Seeing Stormtroopers already swarming the area, looking for the Resistance. "Jade. Time to go." His natural voice rung out just before he placed the helmet on his head.

One final tear dropped as she stood, clutching the lightsaber in her right hand. Shaking, she walked over to stand beside Kylo. His gloved hand touched the small of her back, but she didn't bother to look at him. "Let's get this over with." Her voice was low, almost tired. Within seconds, the ramp lowered, revealing the bloody scene.

The Resistance was found, their fighters running around with blasters, shooting at the Stormtroopers. Kylo sprung into action, using the force when necessary and slicing into soldiers with his crimson blade. Jade, however, stood as still as a stone. Her eyes wide at the situation. Her heart beating too fast. It was almost like a bad dream.

It was only until she got grazed by a blaster shot on the arm did she snap out of it. Wincing in pain, she held her arm, looking to see where the shot came from. A man, standing in the once familiar woods, was aiming at her. Igniting her saber, she held it up just in time to block a shot. The blast was sent back to him, sending him flying through the trees.

Gasping for a moment, taking in what she had just done, she looked down at her weapon. She killed someone. Actually and truly killed someone. It was self defense. He was shooting at me. Another shot hurdled towards her, but she dodged it just in time. She saw another solider standing in front of her, his blaster held up towards her. This time, she ran at the man, kicking him in the stomach and knocking him down.

She held the hot blade to his throat as he looked up at her. "Don't make me do this..." Her voice sounded honest, wavering a bit from the overwhelming feeling of guilt. But the soldier spit up in her face, angrily growling at her. "First Order scum!" The memory from her vision came flying back at her.

"Where does your allegiance lie? Bring me to Jade Elysar."

"First Order scum!"

"...Kill them all."

Kill them all. Do it.

Without hesitation, she plunged her saber into the solider's chest. Hearing him gurgle out in pain, she held it in him for a moment. Eyes lit aflame, she gritted her teeth at the struggling man. "I'll do it. I'll kill you all." Releasing him from her blade, seeing his head slump to the side, she gazed out onto the battle.

Kylo was fighting off three soldiers at once, them attacking him from all angles. She darted over to him, reaching one of the soldiers, and dug her saber into his back. He screamed out in pain, which caused Kylo to stop for a moment to look at her. He had never seen her so enraged. Getting back into the fight, the two of them stood back to back as they fought off more soldiers coming their way.

After defeating the me surrounding them, Kylo finally stomped off towards another group of Stormtroopers being attacked. Jade, now covered in splatters of blood, turned towards a blaster shot being sounded in the woods. Her eyes narrowed as she ran off. Saber still lit at her side, just in case, she reached the edge of the woods.

Her heart felt strange, like it was sinking. It was a feeling she had never felt before. Looking from the spot she was standing, she realized this was the exact spot she watched the attack start on her planet weeks ago. Conflict brewed, guilt sunk in, but anger clouded it.

You are not scum. They are. You are strong. Powerful. These people are worth nothing. They ARE nothing!

The voice rung clear in her head, her face becoming expressionless. Void of emotion. She pressed on, one hand clenched on her saber and the other in a tight fist.

Searching for the source of the noise like a lion searching for it's prey, her breath quickened the longer it took her. Frustration setting in, but another strange feeling struck her heart again. It was the same as before. She glanced around at her surroundings, but nothing about this area was worth remembering.

It hit her again, this time enough to feel pain. Rapid growing pain tearing at her heart. She doubled over, switching off her blade, as she fell to her knees. Gripping her chest, she stared out at the deep woods, her vision getting hazy.

Another blaster shot sounded close by, but it was muffled by her pain. Her eyes shot up, trying to find the person shooting, and seeing another soldier running towards her. Mindlessly, her hand shot up, stalling the person in front of her. He was frozen in time as she slowly stood, feeling her vision coming back as she walked closer. She read his face, his emotions. "You're scared, yet... You want to kill me." The man's fear stricken face gazed at her, eyes glancing back and forth. Her left hand shot up once more, this time gripping the man's throat with the force. "Resistance scum!"

Her mind flooding with pure rage, she ignited her saber, sinking it deep into his abdomen. Blood spilling out of him, splashing up onto her. Pulling him closer onto the blade, watching him writhe in pain under her hands. Finally, she let go of his limp body, tossing it to the ground.

"Jade?"

Whipping her head around, holding the blazing red lightsaber up, she looked around for the voice. Finding the young man who spoke, her hands dropped. Saber thudding to the dense ground. Her breath caught in her throat as she looked upon him, tears filling her vision. It couldn't be.

"Lyle?"

He's alive... Her eyes fluttered with the tears falling, trying to see him clearly. It was him, alive. Standing in front of her. Wearing a Resistance uniform. Oh, no. The pain in her heart pulled once more, the tightest it's ever felt. It sent it to the ground, crying out in agony. She now understood the pain she felt inside. It was Lyle's pain, grief over his sister. But now, it wasn't grief, it was anger.

"Jade. What happened to you?" Her brother asked, pacing towards her, disappointment in his eyes. He choked at his tears, watching her struggle in pain. "This isn't you. Joining The First Order? Fighting with them? Killing innocent lives?" He stalked around her body, crippled with pain on the ground.

Tilting her head up, attempting to look at him, she pushed through the pain. "I thought you were dead," she choked out, starting to stand. She tried to reach out a gentle hand to him, but he stopped her. Using the force.

Her eyes went wide, not being able to move. Her body twitching from the hold. "So you joined the First Order to fight with the people that 'killed' me? That makes sense." He almost laughed at her, shaking his head. "Come on, you're better than that!"

Releasing her, she breathed in, feeling remorse rock her body. "Lyle, I'm-"

Her words were cut off by her brother being suspended in the air. Grasping at his throat, choking from the lack of air. Jade spun around, seeing Kylo holding him up. "Get away from her," he spat out, staring down the boy.

"No, Kylo! Put him down! That's my brother!"

A confused look on his face before continuing, shaking her off. "And he's with the Resistance."

Jade's mouth hung open in disbelief. He was willing to kill her brother. After all this time of mourning her brother's death. Watching her cry over losing her family. Missing them every single day. Her hand flung out, sending Kylo flying back into the woods. His body hitting into a tree, sending him unconscious.

Lyle, now struggling to breath on the lush green ground, looked up at her. She tried walked towards him, to help him, but he shook his head. "Get away from me." Still gasping for air, Jade looked down at her twin. She didn't want to leave him, she wanted to go with him. The urge to leave it all behind filled her gut. The pull towards the light strengthening. But only for a moment.

He doesn't want you around anymore. You've changed and so has he. Forget him. Leave him.

The voice sang to her, realizing how he felt. Her own brother. Denying her help, her compassion. She cared for him, she loved him. He told her to get away. Her eyes couldn't handle anymore tears. Gazing down at him for what felt like the last time, she left him.

Picking up her lightsaber, she paced back to the ship. Finding Stormtroopers to help her get Kylo Ren and ordering one of them to pilot the ship back to The Supremacy. Her mind was blank. Filled with contention. Her body silent sat in the co-pilot's seat. Kylo's unconscious self strapped into a medical bed. Watching out the window, she looked over her beautiful planet that was now tainted, as they flew away.
